This knife sat in my dresser for over a year and i finally decided to try EDC with it again. I think the mods you made are great! The original ring and case are just bizarre.
Pretty much exactly the improvements I thought of when I first saw the Pocket Strike. Like another commenter said, definitely reminds me of the MDV Plus One, which is definitely a dream SD knife for me, albeit it too expensive for my tastes.
GREAT JOB! I think that is a 1000% improvement over the original setup of the knife! I think whom ever designed it must have been drunk when they came up with the sheath because that is one of the main reasons I have not purchased the knife plus I had not seen any aftermarket Kydex options but I believe there are a couple of them now. You should contact Ka-Bar and let them know what you did ad show them the proper way of making their next version of a TDI model or even better yet take make some technical drawing and send them in to CRKT they are always looking for new designers with great ideas and you have something there with the pocket strike as the base.
Good mods in my opinion. Been a fan of the TDI’s from the beginning. I actually have trainers from the factory ( knives pulled off the line prior to sharpening that are super cool). These are great mods, but I unfortunately don’t have access to the tools to duplicate your efforts. Any thoughts on giving this a second go?
Nice job on the modification! I like it but I'll probably keep mine the way it is. I like that only the ring is visible because I want it to be difficult for someone else to grab it. But if I were to use it as an EDC, I would want it exactly how you modified it. Thanks for the video!
Your style is very entertaining, I was waiting to see how you did the handle wrap, looks like a bike tire or something. I’m considering picking up this knife and incorporating the mods that you did to yours.
I used a handle wrap for a baseball bat handle, it is sort of a rubber wrap. I added the wrap later as an afterthought, and didn't record it, but I probably should have, it turned out great.
@@Factor85Labs awesome. I took a screen shot for a closer look. I’m a janitor at a high school and the softball coach teaches in my area. I’m gonna ask him if he has spare bat wraps. I picked up the Becker 2, and kinda regret it. Especially after looking at the Becker Harpoon. Since those two have similar handles if I sell the Becker 2 for the harpoon, I’d do a wrap like that as well. I also liked your Kryptek video. For where I live in Montana, Mandrake is pretty ideal along with Multicam Tropic. We have a lot of deep dark greens, especially in the spring. And for completely aesthetic reasons I’m in love with Kryptek Inferno haha
I had the same issues with the sheath, but all you had to do was remove those things on the side that give the knife its retention......problem solved, thanks to this video when you pointed those retention pieces on the sides......Thanks!!! Just remove those 2 little things and you're good👍🏿
Getting one in the mail soon. Gonna give it a try and see how I like it as is. Mostly wanted a fixed blade that was a quick deploy weapon that would help create distance quickly or to deliver a few good cuts in trapping range. Obviously I’m not planing on using it for a full out fight. Just a quick tool to deter and hopefully end a fight with just a quick cut. (Though I’d rather not have to get into a fight period and would much rather settle an issue with a couple of drinks and talk it out). I’ll give it a try but if it’s as cumbersome and ergonomically challenged as you’ve said it is…..well I suppose there’s always EBay so I can get at least soem of my money back eh?
I bought it, loved the look and then hated it. I hated the sheath seconds after trying to use it. I wish there was a buildup where the thumb goes to give thrust support. The loop needs to go and I like what you did. My thought was to have a hook larger in the back. I have large hands like you and the hook could be used as well. Great video and keep it up.
I think I’m going to modify my sheath and then use a uni clip on it. I like what you did but cutting off the pinky ring/hole doesn’t seem like it helps the functionality of the knife
I just ran some 550 cord through the rivet holes. It worked ok as a temporary attachment for the video. It needs some better belt loops for any serious use though, or maybe something like a Tek Lok.
@@Factor85Labsa few years back as part of a subscription service, I got a little palm sized talon style knife and the kydex sheath didn’t have any kind of belt attachment. It came with a head chain and was meant to wear around the neck. That isn’t my style, so I strung shock cord through the eye holes around the sheath and then ran my belt through the cross over section at the bottom for a horizontal carry. Worked pretty well, the knife was just overall too small.
I checked the knife out and wasnt sure but YT saved me by showing me your video. I have to say the og knife/ kydex are horrible. Way to big for what it is haha I like your modifications 👌🏻
You basically made the skallywag mdv plus 1. Which taken considering the price labor etc would've either A broken even or b still came out cheaper just buying the MDV PLUS 1
Nice mod man. Melted and bent those pocket grabber horns out a bit on mine for waistband carry. I like the ring for easy grab from concealed, but those sharp edges gotta go
At the risk of stating the obvious, you took the pocket strike, turned it into a regular tdi and called it an improvement. Why not just carry the tdi and either return the pocket strike or gift it to a friend? Even your complaint about the ring cutting into ur finger, I truly mean no disrespect but your fingers are approx 2× wider than most. In every other review on yt the handler has more than enough room inside the ring for finger or even thumb, yet your finger gets pinched and you blame the knife, which makes you seem none too bright, now of course I know your are as smart as the next guy so I'm not saying you arent- simply pointing out that blaming the scale for breaking doesn't make any sense, maybe a scale designed by, and for humans, if it breaks under my own weight, perhaps I should reevaluate myself- not the scale. Love your content, I ABSOLUTELY love that you aren't scared of personalizing your blades like most 'collectors' who won't even use their blades, subbed.
Despite appearing on camera as a colossus among men, a titan of manhood living among mere mortals, I am in fact not much larger than the average male. My hands are not huge. I wear a size large glove and can fit my hands into medium gloves in a pinch. The issues with the ring on the knife were not all about the size of the ring, but rather the sharp edges of the ring and sharp edges all around the handle. Probably would be an even worse issue for smaller hands that have more room to move. I initially just rounded all of the edges over, but that doesn't solve the problem of this being, in my opinion, a poor design with an even worse sheath. So I fixed the issues and made a knife I like better. It isn't a regular TDI, far from it. I do like the original TDI and prefer it over this knife, even after my modifications.
Personally, I don't like the original tdi, I don't like the angles, grip, and grip length. This knife is all but ideal as it comes. I'd go as far as to shave off the ring all together, and while it's intended to ride in your pocket, I prefer belt carry so a sheath mod is still necessary too. Shortening it as he did, and then probably a different clip option. Of the small to medium sized edc knives I've been looking at, this one is the most ideal for me despite the changes I'd have to make, minimal as they are.
Well, because I didn't know that I didn't like it until I got it. And it does kinda look like a Skallywag, but like a discount version of a MDV from Wish dot com.
Sorry, but with all due respect. All you did was turn it into a prison shank. I understand the appeal because I'm a bit of a tinker as well, but there are plenty of knives with that exact same design you made. You didn't have to buy a knife you didn't like only to turn it into something that it isn't.
These mods are clever. You basically made the Skallywag Tactical MDV Plus One.
That was an inspiration.
It is definitely an improvement! I am thinking to buy one and try to replicate your modifications. Thanks for the video.
This knife sat in my dresser for over a year and i finally decided to try EDC with it again. I think the mods you made are great! The original ring and case are just bizarre.
Good job man.,
I always mod knives/machetes that can be easily improved, some manufacturers are getting lazy these days.
Sometimes mods work out, and sometimes I end up with a knife that is worse than when it started. But it is fun to try and improve things.
Pretty much exactly the improvements I thought of when I first saw the Pocket Strike. Like another commenter said, definitely reminds me of the MDV Plus One, which is definitely a dream SD knife for me, albeit it too expensive for my tastes.

Great mod. Makes it more versatile.
Great job!!! Thats the way it had came of out of the line

Don't you hate those days when your tools are "non-compliant"😮. I especially hate when my morning coffee build is that way 😅. Good job 👍

Very nice! BTW, what kind of tape was that?
I used baseball bat grip wrap, it is sort of a rubber wrap/tape. Works really well.
The shealth mod was the best part. I have a smaller hand and actually like the ring. The Tops felony stop is my current set up.

Fajny nóż.
Prawie taki fajny, jak distance breaker z Polski, które oferuje Damian Laszuk.

Yes as soon as I got this blade in hand I felt the same
Enjoyed your vid; extremely entertaining - subscribed though not a fan of the mod but it was crazy fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting mod, what sort of cord did you use to hook to your belt?
I just ran some 550 cord through the rivet holes. It worked ok as a temporary attachment for the video. It needs some better belt loops for any serious use though, or maybe something like a Tek Lok.

I think its cool. Don't have to worry about breaking a finger in the ring. Yet still have some retention.
I like it !
👌👌
I dig the mod

nice mods man!👍
Niceee!!!! What type of wrap did you put around the handle?
I ended up using a rubber grip wrap, I think it was for baseball bats or maybe tennis rackets. It worked really well.
It's good to have an imagination. Try to create. Good video
Guess I have to disagree. I understand the need to correct sharp edges, but that just ruined the intended function of the knife in my opinion.
To each their own, I suppose.
😂👍
Когда увидел нож,мне тоже пришла идея его изменить,правда чуть иначе.Получилось 👍
Nice man...if it doesn't work, fix it.
Just get the MDV Plus One
But mine is like getting a MDV Plus from wish dot com....
You just made basically a Skallywag MDV
Also?l, if you don’t like it why buy it instead of seeking something more your taste.
Well, because I didn't know that I didn't like it until I got it. And it does kinda look like a Skallywag, but like a discount version of a MDV from Wish dot com.
