Documentary of Pu Thothong | Lamka Legend

We are deeply sadden by the sudden demise of the Lamka Legend Mr. Thothong.
Here’s a little glimpse of his background compiled by CCI during a case study done on him in 2014.
Born in July 1945, Mr Thongkhosiem popularly known as “Thothong” is with Intellectual Impairment living in New Bazar, Central Lamka of Churachandpur town. His parents passed away when he was a child and he is now living with his cousin sister who is also with Hearing and Speech Impairment.
As a mischievous boy, he likes to play with their piglets while he was very young. While playing with their piglets, the mother pig bites him on his head and almost skinned-off. After recovering from his severe wounds, he could not be his usual self anymore and was diagnosed with Intellectual Disability. He was very clear on his faith and was baptised by the United Penticostal Church where he attended church regularly. Though, he was well treated in the family, people in the town tag him as ‘mad.’
Thothong likes wearing ladies dress and would roam around the town everyday. He is popularly known by everyone in the town from young to old. However, many people are unaware and ignorant about his ability. On the event of District Level Observance of International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2014, he was honoured with a traditional shawl. Today, we bid him goodbye but we will remember him in our hearts as the warm soul, who easily gets smitten by a mere compliment and would reply to a comment in any language thrown at him.
