I use this money back towards the quality of video of this channel. To see how, watch this video - Наука та технологія
The DOF, lightning, digital background and ambient rain SFX with subtle ethereal musical hum. These videos are otherworldly, pretty soon we'll get a video from Joshua's 2nd apartment on the rings of Saturn
Haven't seen any comments on your background yet. IT'S SICK MAN! Never seen something like this! Very good job.
This thing is honestly proof of how far tech has come. I can have a studio-powering device in a relatively small box. With things like the Hiby r2 and r3, I can completely fit my music library in my pocket; combine it with a Fiio BTR5 and I have a desktop grade setup on the go. It's absolutely insane how far the shrinking of technology has come.
Fiio has a consistent strategy and design, and product build quality is solid. My favorite of the smaller HiFi brands.
I have one of these connected to my computer and its the best device I have ever owned!
I could watch your videos just for the fun of it!
stellar production hiding loads and loads of work :D
cheers man
The new studio is looking great, your videos are looking better than ever.
I’m into the GXAce style of “reviewer coming to you from another reality”, opens up a lot of personal flavor opportunities in the “review” format.
This is like a pretty solid successor to those micro-hifi systems that used to be so popular.
The lighting and camerawork on this video is absolutely stellar man, i kept thinking "I wanna live there" lol, absolutely beatiful and very well suited for this futuristic device, very well done 😎👍
I’m still experimenting with all the ways that I can use my R7 but so far it really is a solid device that delivers many options. I also think that it looks great on my desk.
Sickest, dopest UA-cam set I've ever seen.
I've owned this device for 2 weeks now, pairing it with a Focal Clear MG and using Roon for the most part. I love the SQ, even on the 220V input it sounds amazing. The only real downside is the interface. You don't really want to change things constantly in terms of installing apps and going into settings, because for me it feels like I need to pick it up like any Android Phone. Which of course isn't the idea, meaning you have to get close to the screen, facing it directly. For me that means getting off my couch and on my knees, even though the R7 is right next to me. Another issue is the Airplay input. Streaming from my Apple TV to the R7, I get 'hicks and clicks'. If I install another Airplay receiver app, this doesn't happen, but in both cases video and audio get out of sync (even if there's a 'delay' setting in milliseconds). Hopefully that issue will be resolved.
Btw, "AirSpeaker" is an android app that plays without clicks and in-sync on the R7. It's a paid app but that's fine with me for something that actually works.
this video was insane. oh my god kudos.
After watching this video, my family held hands in a dimly lit circle and made incantations on Josh Valour praising the man as a legend in the halls of our forefathers.
Visual of this video is just so amazing
Cinematic! I'm impressed by this quality video. Seems like a Disney star wars thx special.
Your setup is insane. My worry about this device is obsolescence. Won't apps become incompatible with the R7's version of Android within just a few years?
Might pick this up, looks like the ultimate jack of all trades when it comes to music listening. Also, it would look pretty cool on the desk 😎
Great additional cover of the Fiio R7 system. I really enjoyed Your first review. This product i see so much protectional to my audio management, using this as a audio system hub takes the single streaming, exports to other kit. Think it is niece product, but only from the limit of possibilities your able to see it can do. I can this type of product being one of many in the future. It’s convenient, verities, flexible, fits nicely in our steaming and convenience of things lifestyle, and more. I’m personally looking at this as a hub to manage my audio ports to other devices or to drive a particular use case which I personally see many in my that would suit me. It’s opened a new product line that I personally grow, hopefully not in size, just possibilities and as the tech grows it becomes more streamlined and maybe more hidden tech like voice control, a wall mounted hub connected to your hifi system, smart device which could have series of programmable personalised automations. I’m very excited by this. Would love to see more use cases, and push it more. Thanks Josh 👍
Hi Josh! Git mine recently, use it primarily as a Pre-Amp for Kali IN-5 studio monitors (which you should totally review) via it's XLR output. I also use it as a stand-alone to drive very sensitive IEMs using Qobuz. Or when I want a more engaging sound on Hifiman Arya or ZMF Verite Closed I hook it up via USB to my Denafrips Ares II and my Topping A90. Have a good one and keep the vids coming. PS: Excellent b-roll as usual!!
You’re a versatile AIO!!!
Never really noticed the deep bass note in the intro, and the lighting in this video is 👨🍳
Using this as a streamer pre-amp to a set of active speakers would be my preference.
Dude, I want to sell my SMSL SU-9 and Asgard 3 for this. This looks awesome and I was glad that you reviewed it.
I own and love the R7 on my desktop. It drives two Genelec Two's with à sub. The only think it can't do is Bluetooth in the USB DAC Mode.
Works great with Poweramp!
I like the idea of this is my setup where I have a PC, Laptop, Apple TV and my iPhone all as inputs.
I'm thinking of getting one for my bedside table. ❤
Get it! Worth it. Play with Poweramp.
I’d probably use this as a digital out to my amp and dac that I frequently sell and rotate for others as it’d function as both to hold me over until the other comes
Need to know what kind of program/screen saver is running on the tv in the background!
Personally, the best place to put this is something like a ‘living room desk’ ? Somewhere where it can live as the brain for not only actual speakers, but also my desk top speakers AND the headphones.
I actually use Roon at the moment as my ‘all in one’ solution, but this could solve much of the same things it does
yea i think roon is the better option. get roon and a roon DAC/amp and boom your set, prob can get better quality too, more options to do this with
I connected my R7 via a high end coaxial cable to a SMSL DO300 hooked to a HO200. Divine.
Interesting. I have the R7 and a SMSL SU9/SH9 stack. Worth connecting up to the R7?
Why not? The R7 accepts the SMSL SU9's USB cable. You can hook up straight away. I have a high end USB cable but somehow like the Coxial cable. Small subtle difference.
@@danielc5191 Thanks for the reply. So in essence I’ll be using the R7 as a transport from my iMac or standalone. I’ll give it a whirl if only to test for any sound differences. I’ll use the coaxial to the SMSL.
Joshua Valour..Thanks Much !.......
BFG Division. A man of culture I see. 1:04
I'm in the market for my first music streamer and first headphone DAC and Amp. Im stuck between the R7 and the new Node X now for a simple all in one solution. Both have ESS dacs and THX AAA amps. Any opinions on which one to go with? Thanks!
That film set(???) looks insaneeee wtfff
Thank you for the video 😍😍😍
Does it power the abyss V2 or TC properly? I bought the Fiio R7 and would like to get a new headphone besides my DCA Noire 2.
I need to know how that room and background it set up. That is SO SLEEK.
In other reviews I've been seeing mention of skipping issues. There is a chance these could be remediated with firmware updates, but there is no guarantee that FiiO will follow through. Would be nice to see updates in these follow-on videos to see if those got resolved over time.
I've only experienced skipping issues with using the device as an Airplay receiver, so far. I do think you need a decent network connection if you're going to stream with DLNA or Roon or whatever. My first advice for people with skipping issues would be to hook it up directly to your modem/router with a network cable.
@@christopher1800 the issue can also be software related where inefficiencies in implementation of the codec or issues with the OS/drivers/hardware/etc can cause delays or hitching, and a variety of external factors, as well as a myriad of WiFi issues.
There are a number of things that the unit itself can control that can mitigate the external factors, and deeper dive into the airplay hiccups could prove interesting. If you're not comfortable with that as an area of expertise, perhaps that might be a very cool opportunity for a collaboration with another. I imagine devices are only becoming more connected and this intersection only growing.
Before I forget, thanks for taking the time and making these videos.
There was another firmware update 3 days ago on 11/10.
Can you appreciate the effort that Josh goes to for his sets... Really crazy with little details everywhere from the lighting to the little props in scene.
How about running EQ? Does wavelet work well with this device?
heya man. I appreciate your headphone knowledge. very informative. I'm thinking of getting rid of my LCD-2C for a new Sony MDR-MV1. Am I stupid? Or am I forward-thinking? I can't tell. Sony's positioning them as the next MDR 7506.
Josh, in your professional opinion, do you think I can use the R7 to drive the Adams Audio A7x active monitor and listen my Tidal playlist ? Hope to hear from you . Thanks 🙏🏼
Is that a TV or a projector displaying in the background? And what types if so?
Flexibility, interface, Android system and audio quality. Now let's just hope it will be reliable. :-)
(a way of preventing "user error" "full on" line out must be found to safeguard eardrums, hphones and speakers?)
Would love to get your take on the Audeze Maxwell
Unfortunately, the lack of at least one set of RCA inputs is a non-starter for me. I can't fathom why they have two sets of outputs but no input? Maybe the trouble of implementing AD if the volume is completely digital?
Is there any latency issues with the R7 during gaming or watching movies?
WHAT PROJECTOR DO YOU USE FOR THE BACKGROUND?
how would I use this with the GoXLR, line out speakers, HD800s and topping a30 amp?
Can you set the control of volume in AirPlay mode from your iPhone? Cause in my case I can set it only by knobs. I’m explain. In AirPlay mode I connect my iPhone and just play music (or something) but when I’m getting high or low the volume bar nothing changes and I have to set they only by manual knobs of the FiiO r7.
Did you find the same problem? And in case how can I solve that ?
Hi! how it works when it just come to work with headphones? Is it a good choice for Focal Clear and Apple Music? Or maybe something like EveSolo Day-Z8 could be better?
Man, if only it had an analog input or phono stage, I'd tell my brother to buy it immediately to upgrade his system (I kinda want one, even though my system is fairly high-end already, seems a great buy for the asking price).
Agree on this, really cool little device. If it had one analogue input I'd snap it up.
you could Make this a series I can see a ton of videos you could do on this. For me I don't have any desktop set up at home only at work and this is maybe my solution I'm not sure tho
I'm looking for something with optical output mainly to connect to my vehicle for media. Any recommendations? Thanks
How sturdy is it on a desk? It looks if I tugged on a headphone cord it would come along for the ride
I was thinking about buying this for my basement setup. I currently have the FiiO m17 paired with the Sony MDR Z1R for my bedroom listening. Does anyone know if the sound of this unit is comparable to the m17? Also I.ve read some comments about stuttering issues… while unfortunate FiiO is really good at bug fixes and patches. I’ve had my m17 for over a year and they’ve released several bug fixes as well as features to the device. I don’t doubt they will iron that problem out.
Can I plug my headphones into this and get audio from my computer? For example, I'd like to play games and listen to music from my pc but use the Fiio R7 as the DAC/AMP? Would there be any audio lag?
Curious about its ability to use Apple Music but keep forgetting its emulating a phone not a mac library which removes the ability to use Apple Remote app 😞
Pity, still tempting though as it removes need for Airplay and my use case would be my bedroom system (feeding Technics SUG700m2 and Klipsch Forte, or headphones) and I could get by without wanting to change albums frequently (already have Airplay options for that anyhow). Would need to see a dip in price first however because I wouldn’t be using full feature set
does this have like passthrough to pc so i can route audio from the pc to the box thru some xlr headphones?
Somehow I have no use for it with an always on Imac, a great pair of powered speakers with USB input + a powered sub, but man, it looks great. I WISH I had a use for it but imo it excludes people who have their pc / mac on always anyways.
I just wish that there was an Android LTS program for audio services and apps to sign up to. This is cool, but ultimately a lot of the functionality has an egg timer over it.
I don’t even care about the DAC man. The video is just amazing.
i wish it could run a Shure SM7B. only then would it truly be an all in one for my audio needs
One more rainy day
Once again my mind is gray
Can I connect an Apollo Twin X to it and then from there to my monitors? Or better yet, can I use it as an audio output from my Mac / PC ?
Can I use this with my Denon AV receiver 4700x just to stream Apple Music Hi-Res Lossless ?
Can I use my SM7B mic with this amp?
Does it read 4T 2.5" external mechanical hard drive like PC does?
Josh! You missed the biggest thing!! It has RGB, which automatically makes it 50% better! Than any other AMP/DAC!
But it has an issue that I noticed, if you play a video game, and turn the unit after launching the game there is an audio delay, it is reproduce-able on my unit. The fix is to restart the game but it is annoying, it happens on USB-DAC mode, I am using the supplied USB cable in a 3.0 port, running windows 10, 13900k with 64gb ram.
Great review!!!! It's too bad there is no way to control the music from your phone, much like you can on the Eversolo and the Node/Node X. I wonder how those two units would compare to R7 in your opinion, or anyone else's opinion reading this. I am seeking a true HiFi streamer that I can control from my iPhone, but without having to use Roon to do so. I 'think' the Node/Node X has an app that allows this. I do love the fact this has a phone-like screen, but I can very easily live without that. Also, I would be connecting whatever streamer I get to a tube amp (for headphones), but it is very nice that this R7 can also double as a solid-state amp option (for headphones) when I want… I only listen to headphones in my environment. Cheers!
$700 YEESH!
I would love to pick one up at some point, but I just bought a LCD 2 and can’t afford it right now!
For me it's the other way 'round: I've just bought this and I'd like the LCD 2. 😊
How hifiman headphones like arya and he1000 v2 sound with r7 when compared to EF-400 ?
Se puede conectar a unas bocinas activas como las q acoustic m20?
Can anyone tell me if the R7 supports multiple inputs simultaneously? Like, can I hear my PC audio and the android music streaming? What about USB and the Toslink input? USB and Coax? A big goal I want with upgrading is the ability to listen to my records on the same speakers as my computer (which I can currently do) but without having to switch inputs/lose audio from my PC. If I need to watch a video for work or hop on a call, I still want to hear my music regardless of the source.
anyone have r7 yet? I want this for iems mainly, what is the noise floor from 3.5 jack and the 4.4 balance jack? Any noise floor with iems is a no go for this. Plan to connect og monarch, og clairvoyance, or oracle and other iems. I do have hd600 and hd650 but do not anticipate any noise with headphones.
Love the K7, very good for all around gaming and music. Wonder if the r7 is worth it
*boots up vt chat*
*sees josh in home world*
Me: uhhh what are you doing in here
These Rain effects OMG ,,, We gone see them in every video ?
So when you are going to review the Hifiman ananda Stealth magnet edition
Any info about his background in this video yet guys? :(
Put speaker outs with a desktop amp and I'll buy it.
Hi, how does it handle 2tb hard drives? Does it index them or directly access the folders and files of the songs?
The operating is Android. So whatever Android does, this thing can do it.
I assume what you are asking will depend on the app that you use to listen to music.
@@gatobakuniano
Thanks.
For people who believes audio streaming from laptops and smartphones are noisy and needs a dedicated streamer. Good device because it allows streaming apps to be downloaded from android platform compared to those streamers with preset apps.
Have you, or anybody currently owning and using this device, come across the problem of having a pretty decent delay in USB-dac mode? I got this device specifically because of the different modes and feel kind of let down with my experience of noticing quite a big delay in stuff happening in game or video's and only hearing it later.
Thanks in advance for anybody commenting :).
I've been watching UA-cam vids from my iMac connected via USB to R7. No lip sync issues at all.
@@mobill49 Thank you kindly for the response!
In the meantime I have reconnected the device to my PC (windows 11 Home, latest build) with the included cable and when I booted my PC this morning it seems to have disappeared.
I think it might have either been a one-off bug, or that the delay may have appeared because I plugged it in and switched to it in the middle of media/game consumption. Any way it seems to be solved as of now!
Does the R7 work with PS5?
Arya vs Clear OG?
Have you been able to get it to work as a Dac with a ps5 or Xbox series? In fact, have you been able to get any Dac to work with any of those consoles? Given they are HDMI out only, no optical or anything?
I have a 4/1 HDMI switch that also has an optical output. I have Chromecast with Google TV dongle connected to one of the inputs on that switch. The HDMI output is connected to a TV and the optical output is connected to powered speakers. HDMI is the only output on the Chromecast dongle. I use this setup to compensate for an older TV that does not have digital audio output.
@@keithjohnson2863 well that’s a similar solution to what I use, currently just using the coax out from the tv to go to the Dac, but it’s not ideal, why do nobody make a Dac with an actual HDMI input for sound?
I can try it and tell you, I have both Xbox series x and ps5
@@RocketLauncherwithInfiniteAmmo You could probably find as home theater receiver with the functionality that you are looking for, HDMI in and out, DAC circuits, and analog preouts.
@@keithjohnson2863 well so far every receiver that I have tried doesn’t seem to downconvert hdmi audio to optical or coax out, they only seem to spit out the same format that comes in.
As just a streamer, Apple TV 4K would be an economical option at 1/5th the price.
No Tidal connect🤔 thats shame...
I bought one of these. It wont connect to the fiio app on my phone. If i cant control it with a phone or tablet that means that I have to sit right next to it. I can lay on my back in bed and control a Wiim pro with my phone, but not the R7. How do you control the R7 with your phone? To me, this is the biggest negative. No help from Fiio. Very disappointing.
Yes PO is phones out.
Does it support a WiFi connection instead of the ethernet connection?
yes
Can this stream from a NAS ?
It looks like an excellent all in one system !
Thanks for sharing
my deal breaker is it cannot connect to a laptop via USB
it might be bigger than my nuc
Josh continuing to start every video with the lowest of bass notes
"versitile"?
