Reminded me of that Vegas episode where Leslie (I think that's her name) told us about her being a substitute teacher before she became an officer, which leads me to believe that it was the reason why she was so popular on this show 😊

this might help but even tho you and those you work with know what needs fixing, if politicians don't give the nod...we just tried water. 1- training has to be standardized so all law enforcement is working off the same page. standardized psychological screenings are done before a cadet is even considered to enter the program. This has to continue thru the career semi annually. 3 - 'show the colors' meaning get back to visible community relations. Not in an aggressive way. Key is connecting with the youth. We'd organize baseball games,picnics etc. which involved spouses and members children....extend the family. Mentoring needs to come back. If community members want to join in, they need to be screened and given some basic training. 4 - It will take a small core group to develop a plan of continuity. Police should have a negotiable say in where and when they transfer to. In our area, 4 to 5 years is all that is allowed before you have to transfer away. This is a bit of a double edged sword but can be evaluated. 5 - it is time to revamp uniforms. From formal to street. Think about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the formal red surge. These things leave an impression. Some street uniforms look like WW2 brown shirts from Germany and instill fear. 6 - firearms.....I won't get into here but that's in need of change. Well, I've got a migraine setting in and I don't need to write a novel here. Hope you can see there is thought going into solutions. It's going so far where I live that if the government doesn't get on board, the members,communities are ready and will sacrifice to make the changes. If it goes that route, it will reshape the whole country. 💯
My brother was a prison guard for 20 years and said it was like baby setting bad kids, because the prisoners were always seeing what they could get away with and always trying to be sneaky. They definitely do not get paid enough. They are kinda like military putting their life on the line every day never knowing when their life might be over.

You start taking drugs for whatever reason (e.g. you grew up around drugs, no prospects in life, pain/trauma, recreation, peer pressure), then you get to be physically/psychologically dependent on drugs, and you end up taking drugs to help you forget the wreckage drugs has made of your life.

If a beggar has a drug problem and is non-violent, take them to a treatment center, not jail. I pick up trash on the highway for tips and use the money to pay my bills and eat. I never drink and am drug free. I don't smoke and am just trying to stay home. Stop jailing beggars if that is all they are doing. Law makers need to insist on creating alternatives to begging .
