    I walked from Port Soller to Deia and back in early September 2022 and it was 34c, so yes still very hot this year in September. Thanks for your video.

    Hi Simon, that's great information. It looks like you guys enjoyed the hike. Would you recommend hiking boots or trail runners ? Thanks for sharing your trip 👍

      Hey Andrew. Thanks for the comment. I would say it’s down to the individual. I personally prefer boots. Just a lightweight style. Especially when carrying a heavy pack. It just offers that extra ankle support. That said trail runners mean you can avoid carrying a second pair of footwear if you don’t want to wear boots around the towns at night etc. From a terrain perspective trail runners would be absolutely fine 👍

    How easy did you find it to book accomms along the trail? Was it often fully booked? I’m heading out next week, and will be bivvying mostly, but would like to know I can book a hostel last minute if I’m vibing it. Thanks for the vid!

      Excellent. You’ll love it. We didn’t struggle but we were very flexible with where we stayed and what we paid. I would imagine this time of year you’ll be ok 👍

    Great advice thank you. Wednesday I'll do the GR221 hike as well! A question, which part you would consider more beautiful? The first part until Sóller or from Sóller to Pollenca? I only have 7 days so the whole route would be too much unfortunately ..

    • @siwoodward2390
      @siwoodward2390  7 місяців тому +1

      I think the general feeling from quite a few is that the last day isn't the best part of the trek. So I'd say stick with leg one 👍 Have a great time!

      I am just home from a second visit to the GR221. We walked, in boots ( essential as the ground is very rocky), from Puerto Andratx to Lluc in May, missing out the Esporles to Valldemosa section as we needed a rest. We found the Soller through to Lluc section, which is high mountain, just beautiful! The sections around Cuber to Tossals Verds ( a great refugi by the way) and then on to Col des Prats were lovely. We went back last week, because we wanted to do some of the summits around the Son Amer refugi and Lluc monastery, and then walk through to Pollensa. We stayed at Son Amer for three nights, the maximum you can do, summiting Puig de Massanella and Puig de Galileu. The walk from Son Amer/Lluc to Pollensa was absolutely delightful..... there seems to be a narrative around it being dull, but it takes you through some wonderful scenery and an area of biodiversity.

      @@user-uh7fu7cx3u Hi. I guess it's like anything and just subject to personal preference and what the majority enjoy more or less than the other. I don't think people think it's dull. Just perhaps not quite as exciting as other sections. I imagine that if it's all been walked in one go fatigue also plays a part in what people are enjoying 😆

    is the 'Day 1 hill' the hill before or after Saint Elm? and without the guidebook, is there a way of recognising the correct route?

    • @siwoodward2390
      @siwoodward2390  Рік тому

      Hi Rory, day 1 is heading towards Sant Elm. After the initial start and get further up the hill there are no signposts pointing the way so carefully following either the guidebook description or a bearing is quite important. If you're reasonably competent you'll not get super lost but it may make it harder and take you on a less attractive route.

    Just booked my flights to do it in march 2023. Excited. I have 6 days to do it in before my flight home so hoping I can fit as much in as possible! Are there connections for the airport to port d'andrax and do you know any hostels on the route and where to book many thanks!

    • @siwoodward2390
      @siwoodward2390  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ashley. That’s great, good time to do it quickly I reckon. Not too hot. There’s a bus stop straight across the road once you leave the airport that takes you to Palma. Then head to the bus station where there are buses that take you to Port d’andrax. We stopped in S’Hostel d’Esporles which was great and booked through Booking.com. Other nights were a mix of hotels, tent and the refuge at Tossals Verds 👍. Check out my ‘what to expect video’ if you haven’t yet. Happy hiking 😃

    Don’t camp on this route. It’s a 3,000 euro fine. People are constantly getting caught. Official government stance is campers aren’t quality tourists and are a major fire risk. You aren’t welcome. If you want to do this route, book accommodation well in advance, leave your tent at home and bring your wallet

      I have to agree with you. I just did (most of) the walk in februari. Book your accomodation in time. The refugios (where available) are perfect and cheap. There are mostly some alternatives and bus connections are good. I didn't regret not taking a tent.
