I found Ghost 13 years ago in my backyard shortly after I found out that he was low content wolf. He was the best dog I've ever had and grateful for all the years we had together. He passed away in April and seeing this video brought me back to the beginning for him and I.
I’ve rescued three dogs from high kill shelters. My last rescue I was actually going to rescue her 6 months prior with my second rescue Hazel. Unfortunately, someone got her and then found out she was heart worm positive and backed out. Forward to 6 months later and I get a call Daisy is now in Alabama, has been shot, tied to a pole, ended up back at a high kill shelter and now is once again on the euthanasia list and has five minutes before she is going to be euthanized. Yes, you bet I snagged her up. She is the absolute most loving dog I have ever encountered and now is happy at home with us and will never have to worry about that life again. I wish I could adopt them all. Please donate to sanctuary’s, please adopt, please foster and please volunteer time to these sweet baby’s. ❤
Thank you for doing a responsible thing and showing how animals, SENTIENT BEINGS, with NO AGENCY , end up paying the price in pain & fear, for our terrible ego. THANK YOU 🙏

Buick, he was under my car. Fortunately, I saw him in the backup camera. Caught him and threw him in the house. Made it to my appointment. Yea! He was chock full of worms, took 4 treatments. He’s terrier/pit/ who knows. He’s 7 months old; has adjusted well to hiking (short ones for now) and has 4 talking buttons that he uses regularly. Ride, walk, play and treat. Yes, I’m totally wrapped around his paw! He’s made the biggest difference in my life! At 65, I never wanted another dog, now I can’t imagine my life without him. About the only place he doesn’t go with me are grocery stores and restaurants.

Thank you for rescuing Kenai! He lucked out finding you & Ben! I rescued my beagle, Ruthie, from a similar situation. She had lived her whole life chained up on a property in rural Illinois. She was very challenging while she adjusted to indoor life, but she is now the sweetest, friendliest girl. I volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter and they’ve been overflowing for a few years now. Please foster, adopt, and donate to your local rescue! They really need support right now.
I had a 3/4 wolf, 1/4 Malamute for 16 years. Those years with Nikita were outstanding. She was a guardian to my daughters. It takes a strong human to care for a wolf mix. Traveling solo my Nikita girl, I always felt safe. She was a silent warrior caring for me and my daughters.
Two years ago, my wife and I rescued a two-year-old blonde mix husky 75% (Golden 12%, Malamute from the pound she had been returned twice because they said she was aggressive and destructive. We have been working with her. Best dog ever.

I adopted my sweet boy Digger earlier this year and he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. He was a stray in Romania and found on the street at 4 months old by a travelling student. They took him in for a few months but then couldn’t take him with them when they moved on, so he went into kennels that adopts to the UK where he was waiting for a home for a year. Being a stray he’s so much more free spirited compared to a UK dog that sometimes it does feel like having a wild animal, but it’s the most rewarding thing watching them gain confidence at their own pace and realise they are finally home. I watched this whole video cuddling my boy who has changed my world forever ❤
Congratulations on your new family member! Rescued is the best breed. Whatever the DNA says, he is so lucky to have ended up with you and Ben as his human advocates. ❣
Ahhh Lyss, thank you for rescuing Kenai!! Seeing him with Rio warms my heart. I rescued a male pit mix from a hurricane in Louisiana & a street dog from Guadalajara (we're in Oregon) & despite both coming from traumatic backgrounds in different parts of the world, they have become a deeply bonded pair. 🐶💞
Wow, thank you for this high caliber content, I really appreciate your thoroughness and wisdom in the approach to telling Kenai's story. Welcome to the family beautiful boy!
ohhhh!!! Cannot wait to watch! My sister has a Wolf hybrid back in the 1990's...he was huge and so beautiful. Yukon Jack was his name! Best wishes to you all!
Such a stunning boy! I grew up in northern canada where unfortunately wolf dogs are quite common, especially on the rez. I have had the pleasure of knowing many of them and while they do have many challenges they are such amazing animals with so much love and loyalty to give when given the right environment to thrive in. Congratulations on the new addition to the family.

Waay back in the dinosaur age, our parents had a beautiful Irish Setter named Copper. She hadn't been fixed (for reasons) so my Dad built her a beautiful, large pen for her to be in when she wasn't inside with us. This pen had 6 foot chain link surrounding it. Well, a neighbor's wolf dog CLIMBED THE FENCE, and boom, Copper was pregnant. I begged and pleaded to keep this one puppy later named Grizzly who was black with bright blue eyes. He grew into the most beautiful dog that I'd ever seen. He was right in the middle as far as wolf and dog behaviors went, but that didn't matter to me. He was my buddy, and I miss him every day. I wish only the very best for you, Ben, and Kenai moving forward. They're such a blessing and will open up a whole new world to you! 🥰
Oh my goodness! Reading this brought back memories of my Irish Setter. Growing up, I had the most amazing, sassy girl. Her name was Cinnamon. Copper is a beautiful name, too! We were inseparable. She went with me every morning to deliver the Chicago Tribune. Customers would leave her treats every so often. I swore I would always have a Setter. She left this world a few years before her time, and it was such a devastating loss. I would periodically search for Irish Setter puppies, but nothing ever came of it. It took 30 years and a Corgi puppy to make me feel the same way. She just turned 6-years old a few days ago, and I already dread how my soul will hurt like hell when it's her time. One of the biggest tragedies in life is that dogs don't live longer.
@@garywestlake7946 Oh, your puppy sounds adorable! But yes, we pay a very high price for loving our pets, don't we? But it's worth every second leading up to the inevitable pain of separation. Give that pupper a big ol' hug n' kiss from this internet stranger, will you? 🥰
I too had a red Irish setter as young boy to teens, she was very beautiful and her name was Lady. Nobody else knew the things we experienced and shared,we had adventures, special times in my life. I was so lucky to have you in my life Lady. Love you forever.
I was once French kissed by a wolf in a Colorado sanctuary ( maybe the same one ? ) It was both awesome and terrifying. A beautiful experience though. Thanks for rescuing him.
Love you guys for doing this... he will end up giving you more then you give him, rescue animals are like that. If you've never seen the 3.3.3 rule them it's very true - a dog needs 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your expectations of them and 3 months to build a bond. This was true of my boy, the longer we have had him the more he opens up and we understand what he went through, its been 5 years and we are still having to change ourselves to meet him where he is at (and he is still the most loving dog in the world). All the best to you guys!!!.
Thank you for shedding light on this issue! At first I was worried, as I went to a wolf dog sanctuary in Alberta and learned all about how it’s unethical to breed them and the kind of resources they need to thrive. So many of them are left without anyone to take care of them. Many of them don’t do well in the environment of a domestic dog, and also don’t do well out in the wild. They really are a hybrid with completely unique needs. I’m glad you’re giving him a good home ❤
I volunteered for a local rescue and have had 5 rescue dogs. I drove a Sprinter van from Wisconsin to Texas to pick up dogs to bring back to the rescue. Dogs would go to fosters and they would do potty training, teach to walk with a leash and give them a place to be comfortable and learn how to trust. It was very rewarding. I’m excited to see Kenai’s journey. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
This is never a futile act, anytime you try to make the world a better pace, you contribute to helping us all live in a better world. Thanks for sharing this information to us.
You and your fur baby share the same eye color, creating a beautiful bond that’s both unique and heartwarming. It’s almost as if your shared gaze reflects the special connection you have with each other. His former owner should be arrested.
Congrats for rescuing this beautiful animal! I wondered at first how Rio would get along but very glad to see that is a non-issue. This has been a very informative vlog.
I've worked with wolf dogs. I love them. You do have to meet them where they're at. I can almost tell you what percent he is but I won't. The way they engage with their eyes says a lot. I would judge he's going to be fine.
Wonderful story ❤❤. Bless your hearts for adopting him, and working hard to socialize him, Most of all, thank you for showing him what love and security is 🥰🥰.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention! I had no idea so many of these beautiful animals were having so much distress! Good for you and Ben! So glad that Rio is so accepting too! Beautiful family! ❤
Thank you for doing this! It's so important to remember that these beautiful creatures (dogs, wolves, and hybrids) exist as ends unto themselves. They are not toys or props. They should never be bred or acquired carelessly, and we have a moral obligation to honor their lives and needs as sentient beings.❤
this is way better news than getting married lol. What a beautiful story!! I'd love to rescue a wolf dog. I'm very attached to wolves. I've been to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center several times. LOVE that place.
I live in Queensland Australia; I love Alaskan Malamutes and have rescued a total of 3 over 15 years. The climate here is wrong for them and they shouldn't be here, but I give them a loving home with understanding of their needs. My current friend, Lulu (that is the name that she previously had) is now 12. I rescued her when she was 9 and had been seriously neglected, she is a beautiful girl. Thank you for this video and for rescuing your friends.
I'm SO happy for you, he couldn't be more perfect for you and your family. This is such an important video for so many reasons, thank you for sharing lyss ❤ and thank goodness for organizations like these ones ❤
I am the privileged minder of a pal that I got from Battersea dog and cats home here in London U.K. He’s an ex racing Greyhound probably about 11 years old now I’ve had him for 6 +years. He was very scared only having lived in racing Kennels for the first 4 years and then in the dogs home for a while . After racing was frowned upon ( the land was more valuable for real estate). Understandably he was very shy of strangers to begin with and had a very high chase urge for smaller animals of any kind.So much so that he had to wear a muzzle for the first few months until he calmed down. Now he is just a huge couch potato that cannot get on a couch. He never knew any more comfort than a pad or a blanket. He now is a great joy to me and I hope i Am to him. JETT is an old soul and much loved by everyone who comes in contact with him. Loved your video and your story of your buddy. Fond regards to you and yours. Rab from Scotland ,now in london.❤
Wonderful story. I am Dad to an Australian Shepherd for nearly 8 years. A lot of work but so rewarding. You are already seeing the good results in the socialization between you, Rio and your new family member. One of your best videos. Thank you.
Lyss, you are such a warm and loving soul! Welcome to the family Kenai! I am so happy for you guys and thank you for the rescue. We need more people like you and Ben. Great video and I can’t wait for the next episode!
Lyss, thank you thank you thank you for sharing this experience. As a NH Wildlife Rehabber this subject is very dear to me. The public needs this education!!
I rescued my Catahoula 7 yrs ago a lot of the same emotions as your rescue. She’s taught me a lot as far as I can’t correct or change her instincts prey drive or not trusting other animals or people that instinct of prey driven is just so strong after all they have been bred to run down wild boar down south and there’s not many boars in Wisconsin…she is 7th dog I’ve adopted I’m 71 by far she is the smartest protective dog I’ve had. I understand fully how positive reinforcement works and it does work.
So I’m from Wisconsin also and I shared alittle on the hate that wolves are getting in our state. My area is a huge hunting population and the wolves have literally taken all the fawns and no one is seeing any deer whatsoever. The farmers are ha ing problems also with their cattle being slaughtered. Clearly it’s not the wicked fault it’s our laws. Because of this video I want to get educated so I can be a voice to have the laws changed so we CAN co exist. I can see both points of view. I’m neither for or against wolves at this point. I hope I don’t get hate back- I meant no disrespect to anyone or their feelings on the subject!!
So sweet boys they looks so happy and contented.I hope you will.their family forever..may God bless you a long life so you may help more dogs and animals. God bless you always!
Love this. Good on you for the work you do. We just rescued two brothers last weekend that were surrendered in Arkansas and made their way to Colorado. They need a lot of love and work but have already made huge strides in the one week we have had them. They already trust us and love their new home and we love having them as new members of our family. It is truly amazing to watch rescues come out of their shell and learn to love life.
I came face t o face with a huge wild wolf unexpectedly. I was extremely terrified at first but realized then realized I was no threat. I have so much appreciation for wolves after that experience and I am so happy you adopted this beautiful baby.
Thanks for a very informative video today. I've just forwarded this to my niece in The Netherlands, just qualified as a veterinary. She wll really love this interview in so many ways. Hugs Angela from Dublin Ireland
Thank you! It’s taken me a couple of weeks to watch this as the first time I was overcome with gratitude for you and Ben adopting this handsome boy! He is a great addition to your family. Congrats and happy holidays to your all
I researched adopting a wolf mix rescue and decided since I’m a Nomad this was not the best , nor suitable life . I am an Alaskan raised in a cabin and aware of wolves since a child, these are very special animals and allowing them to remain natural is a challenge for many adopters today. Instead I found a lovely Sable Shepherd who is a perfect travel partner and Protector on the road….I took a lot of time with her , solo camping and she accompanied me to Alaska and Northern BC , this last summer/Fall.. Beautiful Wolf hybrid..I wish you the best with him..
People like you and the Alveus sanctuary have brought light to how harsh the wolf dog market can be. Thank you for showing light to an industry people don't give a second thought to. People wildlife as wildlife
hi Lyssa, thank you for this educational video. Living in the UK this whole situation is completely new to me. You and Ben have hearts of gold for giving one of these beautiful animals a loving home 😊
Kenai and Rio are so cute together! We rescued a dog running away from thunder. His owner came to fetch him and was so abusive towards him, we immediately offered to take him. He has become so attached to my husband, follows him everywhere. I think he can't believe a man can be kind❤,Rose from South Africa ❤
Oh, my! You guys are so loving to get this sweet guy. Look at him always wanting to hold your hand or touch you! Thank you for rescuing him. And your dog seems relaxed, too. I hope everything goes superbly well for your growing family. 🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘💗💗💗💜💜
I had a siberian husky for 13 years who had the exact same features, colouring, size fur texture etc only difference is that mine had blue eyes. He was the most gentle and kindest soul. Enjoy your time and love for him. You will find that these are very special dogs and over the years you will find how loyal they become. To you.
Been following your blog since the middle of your bus life days. I’m so glad you’ve got a man in your life, gently strong and confident, not only for you but for those animals! Love your growing family, and the house in its near-original form looks GREAT!!!
I remember in the ‘70s and ‘80s, classifieds in newspapers used to advertise wolf hybrids. And I wanted one so bad. Every day I’d be scouring the classifieds for one. I was a kid without any dog owning/raising experience. I’m so relieved that my parents didn’t fall for my pleas for one. Because when I got my first dog decades later, I was overwhelmed by the amount of work required to own a dog. Everyday during its puppy months, I wanted to return him to the breeder. I’m not a quitter so I never did. I’ve noticed wolf hybrids becoming more popular again and even though I’m tempted I won’t adopt one. I’ve done my research and I know how much work they can be.
I've been on that fery many times over the years... Glad you were able to rescue that beautiful boy! Those dogs need a strong pack leader. There's higher risk with them, but when you win their hearts - they're yours forever.
Well, lyss, You truly are a wonderful woman for giving those wolf dogs a good home because that was so thoughtful!! So, thanks for sharing thisl video👍
Awe great story. I'm so happy for your new addition. He looks like he may have a little Husky in him too. Either way I'm so happy he found you guys. I have a little rescue story too. I found my little Kenna here in Costa Rica where I live and saw her get hit by a car. Long story short since I couldn't find her owner, I just took her to the vet & she had 2 broken legs and a crushed paw. I left my business card and note by the 2 homes and restaurant that were close to the location & I posted her story & picture in our community FB that the bill was paid & where to pick her up but no one claimed her, so I fostered her for 8 months while she was still healing and learning to walk again. We did water therapy and now 8 years later she is still with us. She has a floppy paw and is full of love. Really smart too. I love dogs. Thank you for sharing your story. xoxo
I have two rescue pups. One is a foster fail....my first fail after 19 foster pups, a GSD-BH, she was shot and left to die. We couldn't save her back leg and she still has 2 bullets in her. She has been with me for over 8yrs. My other rescue pup is a Great Pyrenees. She was being advertised for backyard breeding. She was only 3 or 4yrs old at the time and already had multiple births. She was an awful mess when I got her. She has been with me for 6 yrs now. Love my sweet pups.
My first dog was a tiny little puppy my dad got me when I was 7 years old. This little puppy started growing and growing and growing. Later to find out he was an Alaskan Malamute/Wolf mixed breed. Most gentle big giant you have ever met. So friendly, lovable, and howled at the moon all the time. Best dog ever, big guy, as tall as 6 feet when he stood up. WIth all his power and might he was still the most gentle loving buddy I have ever had.
Welcome to the family Kenai.❤ Beautiful video. Thank you got saving such a lovely soul. He looks so happy and Rio looks like she is in love. I have a Siberian Husky and he reminds me so much of my Ghost in personally. I can't wait to watch him grow. ❤❤❤❤

Awe ... thank you for rescuing him. He's beautiful! Congratulations! ❤️🎉🎊👏🙏
Three things....
I love dogs.
I'm really happy that you have a new family member.
I am also very happy that you have a nice guy in your life. ❤
You and your fur baby share the same eye color, creating a beautiful bond that’s both unique and heartwarming. It’s almost as if your shared gaze reflects the special connection you have with each other. His former owner should be arrested.
This woman is a natural beauty!!!🫠
absolutely Inside and Out 200 %💝
💯 not many out there - let’s all be this way!! It takes all of us to get out there and DO something.
Congrats for rescuing this beautiful animal! I wondered at first how Rio would get along but very glad to see that is a non-issue. This has been a very informative vlog.
It breaks my heart that people can treat another sentient thing so poorly. Thank you for making this video and being such a responsible dog owner!
I've worked with wolf dogs. I love them. You do have to meet them where they're at. I can almost tell you what percent he is but I won't. The way they engage with their eyes says a lot. I would judge he's going to be fine.
Why won't you say the wolf percent? It's legal in her state. Mine is 20%
@@landysok90 I say quarter wolf. Not more. Although I would guess that he might have some shepherd too. His affect seems very shepherd-like.
He sure is a handsome fella
Wonderful story ❤❤. Bless your hearts for adopting him, and working hard to socialize him, Most of all, thank you for showing him what love and security is 🥰🥰.
I am so happy that you have a partner in life now.
For every sad story, there are angels in disguise ready to heal through love ❤️ thank you for being one of them. Blessings to all Earth Angels 🙏
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention! I had no idea so many of these beautiful animals were having so much distress!
Good for you and Ben! So glad that Rio is so accepting too! Beautiful family! ❤
Awww congrats on your growing family he looks like such a sweet handsome boy and the queen seems to approve very much of her brother ❤
You are a super special person for what you do. Thank you❤️
Oh Wow, What an Awesome Looking Dog ! ! Thank you for rescuing him ! ! He now has the best family in The World taking care and loving him ! !
Beautiful ❤ so sad for all the wolf dogs. Animals are not accessories 😢
Thank you for helping these beautiful animals❣️
this is way better news than getting married lol.
He now is a great joy to me and I hope i
Am to him.
Thank you so much for showing.
I hate how egoistic humans are
So sweet boys they looks so happy and contented.I hope you will.their family forever..may God bless you a long life so you may help more dogs and animals.
That’s so sweet! Thanks for watching Angela. Hugs from Colorado 😊
Great job straight information well done 👏
Thank you so much for the education and for being able to save that poor baby. Your such an angel.
Welcome Home Kenai ! You hit the adoption Jackpot with Rio's Alyssa and Ben for a family.
Thank you! It’s taken me a couple of weeks to watch this as the first time I was overcome with gratitude for you and Ben adopting this handsome boy! He is a great addition to your family. Congrats and happy holidays to your all
That’s amazing for you guys, many happy and blessed days ahead with your new furry pup.
Great interview! Thank you for raising awareness and sharing the knowledge. You and Ben rock for saving Kenai - which is such a great name!
Your home looks great. You’ve done a very nice job on it. Thanks for saving a savable wolf-dog. So very nice he’s getting along so well with your pup.
AWWW You guys are amazing!!! I'm sure the dog will have his best life with you!! CONGRATS!! Thank you for saving him! made me tear up!!
Oh, my! You guys are so loving to get this sweet guy. Look at him always wanting to hold your hand or touch you! Thank you for rescuing him. And your dog seems relaxed, too. I hope everything goes superbly well for your growing family. 🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘💗💗💗💜💜
Wolves and Wolf Hybrids are AWESOME FAMILY MEMBERS! Congratulations, Lyss & Family!
I had a siberian husky for 13 years who had the exact same features, colouring, size fur texture etc only difference is that mine had blue eyes. He was the most gentle and kindest soul. Enjoy your time and love for him. You will find that these are very special dogs and over the years you will find how loyal they become. To you.
I wish people stopped getting animals for how they look. What about choosing a dog that suit ones lifestyle.
Been following your blog since the middle of your bus life days. I’m so glad you’ve got a man in your life, gently strong and confident, not only for you but for those animals! Love your growing family, and the house in its near-original form looks GREAT!!!
That was so very interesting. And so cool that you took another dog on that really needed help and a home. ❤ What an amazing organization.
Kenai is absolutely stunning, thanks for valuing his life.
So happy for you, Ben, Rio and Kenai ❤❤❤❤ congratulations on your new sweet boy, he’s so special! ❤❤❤❤
Well, lyss,
You truly are a wonderful woman for giving those wolf dogs a good home because that was so thoughtful!!
Thank you for sharing your story. xoxo
Thanks for the responsible information and education. 😺
Oh he's beautiful ❤️ and so glad he found a home with you!
Great job rescuing him.. Hope he can continue to integrate ok.. 👍🏻🙏🏻
You never cease to impress me, strong peaceful warrior woman! Bless you, and congratulations on such a sweet boy. You done good!
He is going to Love it here, beautiful breed 🥰
I have supported Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico for a couple decades. Wolf-dogs have unique challenges and I applaud your decision help.
Awwww so proud you two rescued this boy . He’s gorgeous!!! Sending good positive vibes your way xoxo’s
The beauty 👩🏻 👑 and the beast 🐺 😉🥰💞💝
Very careing and thoughtful of you
You have such a huge heart, thank you for sharing all the information from the wildlife centre. So heartbreaking for these innocent beings, all because of stupid people. Gorgeous, so lovely to see that the new addition is getting along with Rio as well.
What a fantastic video I appreciate your calendar. I've adopted rescues many times after abuse It takes at least a year to get them back to normal. Glad you did this
I’m bawling-poor baby. Thank You for rescuing him❤
Beautiful. Thank you so much. I just rescued my third wolfdog in June. From Colorado! Just followed you on Instagram. My first from Florida and my second at a kill shelter in Texas.
