I like the idea of the decals. I've wanted to place my bikes name on the frame along with the word DISCONTINUED, because well.. you get the picture. I am def going to look for decals. Thanks for the ideas!
I came to this video because I want to fix up a free bike I found, and I’m looking for cheap options to make it look alright. Even though this video is a bit more professional, I still got a lot out of it. Thanks dude!💖
I have rattle canned a bunch of vehicles but never custom painted a bike frame. Wayyyy too much prep for the tiny, impatient, perfectionist demon inside me. But I'm stoked to watch you playah!
Wow, the bike looks totally different now. To be true, I didn't like the look of the bike before the paintjob. But now, gorgeous! And the matched colorway with the van is just pure gold. Your plotted logos are super cool, too. They fit the bike just perfect. You really got an eye for that!
You fucking legend. Bedliner on a bike. Genius. Plastidipping you're tyres. Hilarious. Cant wait to see how they wear through, gunna look kinda sick. Love the flipped logo, even more JDM it's quite common in Japan especially in drifting for one side of the cars graphics to mirrored for aesthetic pleasings so this is a nice unintentional spin. Killed it bro. Need to invest in a vinyl plotter.
Nice finished result, it matches the RV perfectly. One benefit of not clear-coating the vinyl is that I bet you could use the heat gun to remove the stickers as sponsors change or you find a new logo you like.
The video content is so good! You pointed it out last time, and it should be noted anytime you talk about vinyl, that you cannot skimp on the transfer tape. That is what scares so many people from vinyl! Keep it up!!
one thing to know about vinyl. The glue on it can be destroyed by the off gassing of paints. Especially automotive paints. thats why you should wait 4-6 weeks for the paint fumes to fully off gas. if you dont do this the vinyl will also crack and peel over time due to the off gassing of the fumes breaking down the glue of the vinyl.
Nice effort, and great results! I love the idea of truck bed liner on the underside of the frame - does it want to hold onto mud though? On your plotter only cutting 12 inches, you may find that it will cut 12 inches wide but isn't limited by the length it can cut. At least mine works that way.
Just a heads up if you haven't found out by now but you should be able to cut to an infinite length on the vinyl cutter. Still limited to 12" wide but if you have a roll of vinyl you can cut whatever length you want. The Silhouette Cameo software is A LOT better than the Circuit as well.
Great concept and love the thought process insights. I'd suggest for anyone not as constantly involved with artistic projects as DK you can skip the plotter cutter and just find someone in your town who has one to print your graphics for a few dollars.
Another fastball knocked outta the park, playa! Now, if you can get a recording of your camper's exhaust tune so you can play it back instead of mouthing, "BRAAAAP!" that would be insane! Big Hugs, A
Have been off YT for a bit and coming back to a new DKlein video was nice. Awesome job on the paint job and I'm planing to do my MTB soon, but might work on my gravel bike first and try out that truck liner trick. Need to catch up on your previous vids. BTW, love the breakdown and one of best bike paint how-to vids on here.
@@EverythingsBeenDone de.spray.bike/ I have painted my old Orbea roadbike with some of their cans last year. So many great colors and also the Keirin Flake stuff 🖤
Yo Dustin- I am painting a road bike from the 70's. Should I sand all the paint off? Sand the paint to make it smooth, but not paint free? Sand blast it? Use liquid paint stripper? I know there is more than one way to skin a cat, just interested in your 2 cents. I will be painting it with "Spray. Bike" spray paint. Cheers, Steve TTF
i would recommend sanding your bike before applying paint on it, but if you are painting a carbon frame, you generally want to avoid using paint stripper or sand blasting it. * if you have a neon coloured bike you need to sand your farme if you dont want the old color to be visible threw your new paint (paint is a little bit translucent)

Truck bed liner on a bike is literally the coolest bike mod I have ever heard of. Period. I'm a broke college student right now but that is definitely now a goal of mine. How do you guys think the same truck bed liner location on a bike would look with a raw/bare frame??
So worth the wait. Turned out fantastic. What kinda white is that? Looks a bit... frosty. I like the Exxon logo because it's likely what your frame, tires, cables, paint, decals, computer, lubricants, etc. are made of.
Hey Dustin, Got the same bike and the same problem with the color (mine is grey too) so need to try this out and watching your vid has given me some ideas, your Jena looks sick now, great channel and as always great vids cheers Stu
I’m terrified to customize my bike because I’m always thinking about when I sell them down the road. Maybe doing something like this would make me actually comfortable with my bike and not constantly think about when and if I’m going to sell it for something different
Dustin Klein My frame is ugly too, might have to do something about that. Imagine a chalkboard painted bike. So it can be a murdered out matte bike, or I can draw all sorts of silly shit on it and hose it off later
Hey Dustin, I LOVE your narration style. Very unique. Have a question; what do you think of Surly Straggler? Is it decent? What is comparable under $2000?
