      Well, it was done a while ago and so far so good, no problems. There are different types of silicone so maybe certain types damage the paint. I just used regular car RTV silicone.

    I did the same thing in my 2020 Jetta R line. 😢 Unfortunately, it’s harder to get to than the Tiguan. We’ve searched and searched and your video is the best yet. Any ideas that might help with the Jetta?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing Рік тому +1

      Hey There, I have never done one on a Jetta. I did just have to do one on an Acura RDX, and it was much harder than the Tiguan. For the Jetta I'm really not sure. If it's a hatchback like the Sportwagon you should be able to get in there by removing the rubber seal and pulling back everything like the Tiguan. If its a coupe/sedan it's probably going to be more intense as you will have to remove more trim. Sorry I could not help more, but I've never done one on the Jetta.

    Thank you for this video! This also happened to me last week. Do you have any concerns of water leaking because the hole where the antenna popped out of is warped, unless the screw can tightly flatten out the antenna?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing 2 роки тому +3

      Thanks for the great comment, I read each one !!! I was worried about water getting in so I used a small amount of silicone on the bottom of the fin when I reinstalled it, then wiped off the excess silicone. So far no problems, and the roof was a little warped. I pretty sure in the video I showed the silicone. Good thing is there was no paint chipping or anything, and all it cost me was my time, and a bit of silicone. Also make sure you fix the fingers as I did by bending them back so it holds. Thanks !!!

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing Рік тому

      While I have not taken apart the stick aerial I can't see it being any different. With assembly line process the hole has to be the same for both and I would say the connectors are probably the same as well.

    My wife did the same thing to our 2020 Atlas. Unfortunately the headliner in the trunk only has two clips and does not allow for easy access to fin opening. Any suggestions how to bring down the headliner without damaging it?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing 2 роки тому

      Hey there and thanks for the comment. I have never done one on an Atlas (nice vehicle by the way) Usually once you take the weather stripping off you can start pulling the headliner down. Then you can pull it down just enough to look inside and reach in. You just have to make sure that when you are pulling it down you don't pull too hard or you will crease it. You may have to pull on the plastic trim around the rear, near the ceiling to release the headliner. I'm not sure if there is a trick for the Atlas, but with the Tiguan I was able to reach in and leave the headliner pretty much intact.

    • @warrenhamlet1647

    I tried this with atlas, but the tabs seem to have some bend, where can I get the tab that holds it against the roof? It’s the same part as shown in this video.
    It has some gap now, essentially water can get in, automotive sealant is the only way to avoid gaps, once it pulls out, won’t stay flush without sealant?
    Thanks, this video really helped get some ideas, I did end up creasing the headliner a bit but that’s okay 😂

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing Рік тому

      Hey thanks for the comment, it's a tight fit for sure. The only place you would be able to get that part is from VW. I doubt there is any aftermarket that sells it (due to the low demand) I think you have to go to VW. Don't feel bad about the headliner, I just did another on an Acura RDX and lets just saw a crease occurred :)

    • @karthickm726

    • @GarageKing

    You should never use brake cleaner on paint. It has acetone in it and will bubble your paint. Please use automotive goo gone

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing Рік тому

      Hey thanks for the comment. I considered goo gone, but was afraid it would have left a residue that may cause the silicone not to stick, then I would have had a water leak :( Not all brake cleaners are the same. This GM one I have used for years as a mechanic, and everyone in the dealership uses it, and it was used on paint (sparingly) all the time and there was never any issues. No one can say if it has acetone in it, as it's not on the label (I just checked) so only GM knows. I have used a few different ones when I run out of the GM stuff, and they do smell different, and some don't even clean well. Now I just buy the GM stuff by the box. I guess to be really safe I could have used goo gone, and then used a detailing product like Carpro ERASER to remove residue, but I'm so use to using this GM stuff it just came naturally to use it. I should have mentioned that not all brake cleaners are the same, and the one that I have used for years without any issue is the GM one, and another brake cleaner may cause issues.
