    Seabee Museum, located at Port Hueneme, CA has a display on the Marston Matting. These interlocking panels were used in WW2, Korea and Vietnam in order to quickly build landing fields and helicopter pads.
    PS - Previous owner was a hell of a welder to fabricate the trucks flatbed area. Nice detail re rounded fender area.

    On your loadstar ramp truck instead of removing the the hand painted name you can get a magnetic logo to put over the top. Those magnetic stickers work pretty good from what I've seen. And it'll keep the original stuff on the truck like you'd like nice looking truck.

    Save Coito’s logo on doors. Put your shop logo on the toolbox doors. Coito’s logo is part of the truck’s history. A matching deck on trailer would look great.

    My second comment following the first will tell you the difference in mine and yours... I want to add that we landed the B52 planes on that material in vietnam. I had the DT466 engine, ten speed with a air shift four speed brownie.. and tandem axles on the back. It would roll at 85 mph all day long at 2000 rpms. A twenty four foot steel bed with live tail spool and a pto driven winch under the tilt bed. Used to haul containers and trash bins. The winch went through a block in the back and then back to the front where it was now on the top of the deck and pulled what ever you needed to load just idling along. Great set up, I hauled some of my K.W. 100's on it. air brakes and air passenger window with heated mirrors, you could adjust the passenger mirror from the drivers seat an had the window in the lower passenger door

    Absolutely beautiful truck! In Vietnam in 1967 we called that PSP (perforated steel plate) it was used for airstrips, bridge decking, road through soft soil areas, etc. At LZ Hammond we had a 3000ft. PSP runway that was built over a rise, a C-130 couldn't be seen from one end when it touched down on the other end. They would come roaring over the hill with the props in reverse and then had to back up to the staging area because the strip was too narrow for them to turn around. Looking forward to your planned refinements of this truck!

    Your decking is called "Marston Mat" or pierced steel planking. It was delvoped as a temporary, expedient landing surface and came in 120" x 15" planks. There will be 87 holes in each planks. Oh by the way, love your channel as I am a big IH fan as well! From my 1st vehicle, 67 Scout 800 to my 97 4700 flatbed, with a mid 70s Cub Lowboy 154 thrown in for good measure 😀

    Put the winch in the beaver tail and run the cable forwards and back round a removable shackle ,you could then put a cover over the winch to keep the clean look.

    Great truck just a thought what if you mount the winch at the back between the ramps an run a snatch block at the front that way gives you more pull power an more angles at the back with out dragging the rope over the tray

    • @bluegrallis
      @bluegrallis 2 роки тому +3

      I had the same thought. It would need a roller on the back end of the level part of the deck, but it should have that also if the winch is up front. Especially if you're using synthetic rope.
      It might make one more step in a recovery, but could be very useful for any angled recovery, when you can't get directly lined up.

    Beautiful truck but it would sweet with a turbo and a gear change. Mileage would be even better but I bet it would be a chore to build the turbo setup. I couldn't tolerate the 55mph

  • @eddiepatterson5025
    @eddiepatterson5025 Рік тому

    You mentioned the engine was turning 2300 rpm at 55 mph if I heard you right. Have you consider swapping a transmission with more gears so you can run interstate speeds. And a windshield washer setup would be helpful too.

    I had an 1850b Cargostar that had the 3208 years ago that was used as a support truck for a drill rig so it had around a 20' flatbed and a drop axle. I bought thinking I would at least get it road legal. it ran great but it sat for 15-20 years before I ended up with it and the windows were blown out not to mention the tires on the dayton rims.

    Hey Ben!! Just a suggestion ,, When you mount the winch ,, instead of putting it behind the front head board ,,mount it on the 1st level plate on the rear at the beginning of the ramps & run it to the front with a ""Snatch block "" so you can run closer to the head board !! Great looking ""OL"" IH ( Corn Binder ) !! HAHA

  • @thomassmith4022
    @thomassmith4022 2 роки тому +1

    My very first "CORN BINDER" was a "FARM- ALL "A" Offset Tractor, then a 49 1 Ton Flat Bed, then a 52 3/4 ton pickup, then a 72 1010 pickup, then A 62 Scout 80, then a 65 Scout 800, then a 70 Scout 800 B, then a 72 Scout II, Wish I still have them all. Keep it up. Love the "Corn Binders."
