I only just seen this and my jaw hit the floor like whaaaaaat? So yeah tried it on this new vinyl that-was-a-pain-to-cut-and-weed I never used or brought before that way.. Wow, it loaded ok and cut well, I was even more amazed that I was able to weed it without any problems. Just wow, thanks for showing us that - great I dont need to ponder on if I should by smart vinyl now! Thank you !
Great video. I'm searching just for this method for a neighbor who got a Joy for her BD and I have a lot of vinyls including permanent and iron on and offered to share but all of mine is full size up to 12 inches wide on large rolls and sheets both in multi packs too. So want to see how one cuts it to use without the mats and with the mats. For fun I bought her a package of mats too extend her minimum supplied with her machine a week ago. Off to see what cut size I need for the mats then. I think it was 5 but might be 4.5 inches wide so will be looking at that next. This definitely covered a lot of what I could use to help her get started and save her money over time too. (Maybe she'll let me make a few labels for my 60 some plastic sterilite drawers that hold most of my vinyls and 12x12 papers among tools and supplies for card making in general. I get tired of opening so many drawers in search of this or that when I so need to label.) Of course I can make my own labels but will choose removable so when I make changes in the future. By the way the sterilte large desk drawers that come as 3 drawers per set can be made into wonderful towers my largest so far is 16 high plus two 10 high they hold pads of the 12x12 cardstock and paper along with rolls of all sorts of vinyl 11-12 inch long perfectly. Super sized rolls might be too thick to begin with but save the inner cardboard rollers and you can make two rolls by rolling off some of the super sized roll onto other rollers. I however bought a 250 foot rolls for most used basic colors of red and black so I'd need way to many cores to reduce that and take up way too many drawers. I'm stingy even with myself sometimes. Anyway so many of us need drawers that can store our over sized supplies vinyl and paper stock and these work well. You take apart and reassemble into towers. Only negative no wheels. But I'm still happy with what I can use them for and one bonus with the Sterilite is most times you can pinch the drawers towards the back to unlock the catch to prevent pulling out to far and allows you to remove the drawers because I am constantly re-arranging them and this works for me. I also keep 3-4 drawers empty for on going projects so it's easy to swoop all materials into a drawer and clean up work area at end of the day and ready to pull out and continue the next time. Happy crafting everyone.
Thank you for that very informative video. I have such a varied stock of Cricut vinyl and HTV for the maker machines and really didn’t want to have to buy a whole lot of vinyl and HTV for the Joy so this really makes me happy.
Great video. I had heard that you can cut Oracle but because the stores have been closed I haven't been able to try it. I am so glad you did it and tried the others. Thank you.
I love that you are always exploring new boundaries for these machines. I wonder if you've tested the smart materials on the older cricut machines? Our local WalMart is finally getting more cricut supplies and I've notified, especially with the iron on and infusible ink, that the smart products are cheaper than the full size. I usually do smaller projects and I have a maker. I haven't found anyone testing them so I was just seeing if you had.
This is really great, thank you Angie! Now all I have to do is find a way to weed all of the smart vinyl I already have but won't bother buying it again. 😊
Thank you so much for making this video! I'm looking to cut long stripes for a car hood decal but need to use a carbon fibre vinyl. Have been contemplating purchasing a joy for this purpose and you helped me with knowing we don't need the smart vinyl to cut without a mat!
I AM SOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED BC MY CRICUT JOY IS TOO SMART. I HAVE TRIED TO TRICK MY JOY TO CUT DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND IT WILL NOT CUT ANYTHING EXCEPT THE SMART PAPER W/O A MAT. AND MOST OF ALL IT WILL NOT CUT INFUSIBLE INK AT ALL! I'M PULLING MY HAIR OUT OVER HERE.

You are very smart and thank-you. I love when you try new things for all that watch you!

I haven't but you should be able to stick them to your mat and cut without issue.

Thanks!

can you cut cardstock matless? I would like to get a larger flower by not using a mat...
No you cannot.
Hello can I use permanent vinyl without a mat
You would need to have Cricut Joy brand smart vinyl or try cutting your big vinyl down as shown.
Clever girl!
Thanks!
Great video Angie. I'm trying to find the floral cricut pattern. I know your video is a year old now. Any tips on what it's called? 😀
I am pretty sure it is discontinued.

Go for it!
Could not using a mat for the non cricut vinyl mess up the machine?
I don't see how? It is feeding in material just as it is intended.

You can just add your materials to the mat to cut them. Not sure what issue you are having with Infusible Ink?
HOW CAN I CONTACT ANGIE HOLDEN BY PHONE?
