    American homes have the tactical disadvantage of having the main door open directly into the living room. In Europe most homes, even apartments, have a short corridor between the main door and the rest of the home (usually for hanging coats on the wall). Many homes are organized around a corridor, which starts from the main room, runs through the house, and the rooms open from that corridor. This gives a good choke-point, and they cannot get behind you. I keep a pepper spray to use along that corridor. In a jurisdiction where it is night impossible to get a firearm permit, and taking into account the flooring plan, I consider a pepper spray, especially a long range bear spray, as a very good option. And as most home invaders come to steal instead to kill, it might even make them run away.

    Besides weapons, things like fencing, dogs, security cameras/lighting can all change the game. Here in Colorado, we have the "Make My Day Law," equivalent to a "Castle Doctrine." The use of deadly force is always a legal response to an intruder inside your "Dwelling," although it may not always be necessary.

    I'm glad you mentioned Swords and Machete's. I have in my bedroom from United Cutlery, the Combat Commander Gladiators sword/machete. It is based on the Roman short swords, and is very useful in close quarters. Mine has a 16.5 inch long 1065 high carbon steel blade, double edged and has a wickedly sharp point. So a very good stabbing and slashing weapon. I also have a few actual combat ready swords, but they are all a bit long for inside work. Oh, and if your going to get a sword. Make sure it is high carbon, 1065 or better, and full tang, and listed as combat ready. Do not get a Mall Katana, those things are junk.

      I'm in the UK, and I also have a slingshot and torch, but a tomahawk as well. I would say a small bat or tomahawk or some sort of stick or pole would be good. I remember reading online somewhere that a fire poker makes a good weapon, as it's basically a spear. I'd probably go with a stick or pole, though, to try and disable the intruder, and stop them in their path, rather than trying to use something like a tomahawk or a fire poker, which have more potential to cause lethal injury and would probably be looked upon unfavourably by the court if a case was brought against you.

      @Andygb78 2 роки тому +1

      @@rodneytrotter8436 It is stupid we're technically not allowed to defend our own homes or indeed ourselves while out and about. I think with the crossbow, she must have said that she shot it in the garden as a sport/hobby and managed to justify that it just happened to be the first thing she could get her hands on when people broke into her home. But I agree, she was lucky to get away with it. Maybe another jury might have found her guilty. I'd be hesitant to use my slingshot in that scenario never mind a crossbow.
      At least some of us are prepared for these sort of things and have thought about it in advance. You just have to get a bit creative when it comes to defending yourself here in the UK.

The bolts are carbon fiber shafts with broad heads.The limbs are 90 lbs .I also got 2 striper clips and have bodkin bolts so not to have the broad heads exposed. With practice you can reload quickly.I keep them in a waist pack that I keep with the xbow. You can quickly strap it with the pack below your stomach, with it open the speed loader/ strip clips are easily accessable. I have a laser, a weapon light and red dot on the xbow. I use an otf karambit with my live hand as a force multiplier if someone tried to grad the xbow from me. I gave a lot of thought into this setup before I purchased it. I love hawks myself, but something to remember with them is it often can be a one shot deal since it could get stuck in the person. A good thing for people to think about is with most of these it's a good idea to have multiples of them and keep those in different places around the house - even the bathroom. If you need to retreat of are caught off guard you could always have perhaps a machete in every room you go. A good short spear is also a great thing to have.

Excellent work. I wonder what your professional background is. Now, for home defense, especially for those not inclined to use weapons: get a dog! In Canada having a gun or facing a gun isn't very common. I'm not a big guy and the recovery time between one swing and next with a bat is a bit slow for me. For that reason I have 18 inch chunks of hickory axe handle in strategic location around the house. They hit as a hard as a bat and can be used one handed.
    For a single handed club it's wise to choke up on the grip and leave a few inches hanging off the bottom. The shock of impact can rattle it loose from your grip and it gives you an opportunity to maintain control of it. You can also use that end for thrusts if you're in grappling range and don't have the room to wind up and swing. Joints, fingers, eyes and throat are the ideal targets for that.

    Know what we do here? Build a proper house with stone. Have locks that deserve the name on your doors and windows. Windows on the ground floor should have bars or secure shutters . Actually lock your doors and windows.
    That way you won‘t have to think about shotguns or baseball bats. Just saying.

      Good wisdom there. Read decades ago that homes in the US haven't been built to be defendable since the 1920's.

    We'll, in shitty countries like South Africa. It's difficult to obtain a firearm license. So one is essentially at the mercy of criminals

    You certainly can miss with a shotgun. At 20 feet the spread is small. Never hunt an intruder. If it’s just you and the wife, get behind the bed, lay the shotgun on the bed pointed at the door and wait. I made a huge mistake and walked the house when we were awoken at night by a noise. I was in my 20’s, strong young dumb and fulla….. anyway I was shaking like a leaf and almost pissed myself. A seasoned criminal would’ve disarmed and murdered me. I shouted out that I’m armed and get out now. Nothing came of it except this lesson that I lived to tell.
