I would add Em’s last verse in Not Alike. Huge switch up from the previous verses. The way it flows gets me every time. The flow switch on this line all the way to the end: “I poke and I stick and I turn and I rotatin' motion
Invisible with the pen, I'm at the pinnacle …”

Em's verse on "Patiently Waiting" has to be up there for me. It may not be the most complex thing out there, but it's got some sick rhyme schemes and cadences while completely overpowering 50's verses on sheer flex as well.

Its really hard to pick but my top 5 favorite em verses would be:
    5. Talking 2 Myself last verse (i know its not technically amazing or something but that song has helped me a lot)
    4. Not Alike 2nd verse
    3. The ringer, the whole song basically
    2. Medicine man

Honestly, I could easily name 10 more and not be satisfied with the list still.

Incredible and amazing list. I had a completely different list before you broke them down and explained why you put them in this list. Sing For The Moment does hit different, and I think many people can agree on that. Here’s my top 5 list:
    5. When I’m Gone (first verse)
    4. Till I Collapse (second verse)
    3. Forever
    2. Lose Yourself (1st verse)
    1. Best Friend (Em’s entire verse)
When I’m Gone is a different tone from what people were used to from Em at the time, and this song is just so beautiful, so that’s why it made number 5 on my list.
Till I Collapse is so iconic. I love when he lists the rappers that he had in front of him, “it goes Reggie, Jay Z, Tupac & Biggie, Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas & then me”. That sequence of names and making it flow with the song was just absolutely amazing. And paying homage to some of the best of all time too, just rap perfection.
Forever is ranked high because this is when I really started to get into music, and Forever is still one of the biggest collabs in all of music history. The Star power in all the artists in that song, was and still is, just incredible. Also Eminem did his thing and absolutely murdered the beat, so his verse here is the one that stood out the most from all the other names.
I have Lose Yourself at 2, for many of the same reasons Knox mentioned, so I won’t repeat what he said. But one of the most recognized songs of all time from any genres
I have Best Friend at number 1 because of how smooth his entire verse is in this song, how nice he rhymes, breaks down the syllables and the overall message. I grew up in a strictly Roman Catholic home, so Yelawolf’s religious perspective on the song really meant something to me as well, but how Eminem put it together, and made it about his literal best friend, is what put it over the top for me

@@brandonayong5823 yeah that’s a great one too. Just shows the incredible talent that is Eminem. Songs that just missed the cut on my list are:

      Marshall Mathers (first verse)
      My Band (Em’s intro)
      Wicked Ways (first verse)
      Book of Rhymes (third verse)

Cracking list and cracking video, Knox. Thank you so much for bringing back Eminem Thursday's. I've really missed them. To pick top 5 Eminem verses is a mountain to climb but I'm going to try. I'm probably gonna miss a lot of obvious ones but here's mine; (in no particular order)
Sing For The Moment (Last verse) - basically for the same reasons as you listed. It's such a hard hitting verse and it talks deeply about how rap was at that time and how Eminem was critiqued by almost everyone.
Bad Guy (Third verse) - ("keep tapping the glass lightly as it starts to crescendo...") chills. literally Goosebumps typing that as it's building up to the finale. the whole verse then into the chorus and the last verse is just spectacular.
Forgot About Dre - Possibly my favourite ever verse by Eminem. I've been listening to Eminem since I was about 5 years old and I distinctly remember this coming on over the cd player in my dads car while we were driving. His flow, his cadence, his wordplay is just unbelievable. ("From here on out it's the Chronic II, starting today and tomorrow's anew, and I'm still loco enough to choke you to death with a Charleston Chew") a masterpiece.
No Love - ("Man get these whack cocksuckers off stage, where the fuck is Kanye when you need him?!") you can hear in his voice how hard he goes in this song. I felt like he needed to get a lot of things off his chest with this song and his pen went crazy. I just absolutely love this verse from him.
Kill You - ("OK, I'm ready to go play, I got the machete from OJ and I'm ready to make everyone's throats ache") every time I see my brother, we listen to this song and he was one of the reasons why I love Eminem the way I do.
I missed so many amazing verses. A top 5 was nigh on impossible to do. Honourable mentions; I Need A Doctor - 2nd verse, Lose Yourself, last verse, Best Friend, Purple Pills, Darkness - 2nd verse, Gnat - last verse. I'm gonna stop typing now because I will be here forever.

The way he keeps the three-syllable rhyme scheme of that eye-aw-ə, not just throughout one verse but through ALL THREE verses, is already impressive as hell, but I feel like he goes especially nuts on that third and final verse, between the football scheme with the 0-16 Lions offense, Giants, Falcons, and Miami Dolphins, and then you have the, "You gon' die a ball-licker, I've been diabolical with this dialogue"
    It's such an awesome song

My friend thought it would be funny to play the song “Kim” for me first when I knew nothing about him and I can’t believe I’m admitting this but I couldn’t STAND him! Then I heard “My Name Is” and I thought he was going to be gimmicky and someone like “Weird Al Yankovich”. Then a few days later I heard “Cleanin out my Closet” and “The Way I Am” and some switch went off in my brain I went back to listen to every song I could find and I fell in love lol I went from thinking he was kinda putting on an act to feeling opposite and saw him as the realest most transparent honest artist out there!

I'm mostly a post Relapse eminem listener so this'll be a bunch of his verses in the modern era, because it's what got me into Em in the first place.
    5. Drop the World (Em's verse)
This verse just always gets me so hyped up and can pick me up from a low point. The amount of times I've listened to this song just to listen to this verse is insane. It's just such a nice verse. His flow is amazing, ik his lyricism on this verse is a bit more on the standard side but the specific quote of "Man, it feels like these walls are closin' in // This roof is cavin' in // Uh, it's time to raise it, then" just speaks to me. It's so good.
    4. So Much Better (3rd Verse)
This verse can just consistently speak to me. Not even because i've been in a romantic relationship that caused me to feel like that but i listened to the album at a time a person I'd been there, supporting them through thick and thin, just left suddenly and without saying a proper goodbye. and I think I really related to the lines about being there punching bag and the song gave me the ability to "hold my chin up, finally showed a sign of life in me for the first time since [they] left"
    3. Survival (2nd Verse)
This verse is just so goated. His flow on it is nice, his uplifting spirit is good, his lyricism is good. everything about it is just good. It's just another one of those songs I can go to just bring myself up, to just get me hyped, get me going at life with 110% attitude yknow.
    2. Renegade (2nd Em verse)
Need I say anything here? This is just a perfect example of Em's rapping ability and his flow and condensed rhyme scheme on it is just *chefs kiss* beautiful. It's just amazing to listen to. Though this could honestly be replaced by his first verse on that song too honestly. Both of them are so good.
    1. Sing for the Moment (3rd Verse)
Mainly for the same reasons Knox gave in the video. Whilst I didn't experience it at the time it released I can really relate to what he was saying about being one of those kids. Being one of those people sitting in their room, crying my eyes out, and then just blasting some music to try and bring myself back up cos Musics my outlet. It's what lets me function on a day to day basis essentially.
    Honourable Mentions:
    Talking 2 Myself (3rd verse)
    Stepping Stone (2nd verse)
    Stepdad (3rd verse)
All fire songs with fire verses within them. Just always so nice to listen to. Just ignites that fire within you again. such a GOAT artist.

Picking just five verses from this man is damn near impossible, but I'll give it the ole college try..
    5. First verse of Till I Collapse
The way he structured that verse to make literally every other word rhyme is something even other legendary rappers could only dream of doing.
    4. First verse of Renegade
See number 5 (and his calm delivery of that verse gave me chills and made it even more powerful to me), plus all the reasons Knox mentioned
    3. You could honestly pick any verse from Lose Yourself, but I think I'll go with number three just because he brought the song home with such emotion and wrapped it up so nicely.
    2. Medicine Man
That verse had absolutely everything you could want in a verse from a top-tier lyricist..flow switches, engaging delivery, content, and crazy wordplay..one of his best verses of all time for sure. But there can only be one number one verse, and for me, that honor goes to
    1. Best Friend
To me, this is not only Em's best verse, but arguably a top 10 verse in hip hop history. The way he flipped the concept of the song to where he could either be talking about God like Yela was, or his best friend Proof, like most people understood him to be, combined with the machine-gun like flows and the perpetual multi-syllable rhyme schemes, make this one of the most unforgettable and unbelievable verses I've ever heard from ANY rapper.

Any verse from Rap God would be on my top 10, sometimes I feel that song is appreciated only for it's fast part, but the rest of the song is just packed with amazing flows and word play. I love that song.
Mockingbird is another one for me, the emotion of love pouring through that is unbelievable. That song is meant for his daughters but anyone who feels like they need comfort can get that through this song. The laid back and soothing cadence also gets me every time. The story telling is on another level too.

The last verse on "Headlights" always stuck to me just because the love for ones mother. And since we all know Em's history with his mom, it was such a heart-warming moment when I first heard it (the whole song actually but still) it brought me to tears and made me pick up my phone and call my mom to tell her I appreciate her and everything she has done for me to make sure I wouldnt go down the wrong path. Maybe its just me but I really loved the fact that Em resolved his issues with his mom. But overall, another great vid, professor Knox! 😊👍 love and peace from 🇪🇪

My top 5 today (in no order):
Stay Wide Awake (2nd verse) - the rhymes and story telling he keeps in this verse is so satisfying everytime
Best Friend - has a great case for being his best, the energy and bars!!
Fight Music - the energy and rage makes the statements hit even more for me, and they turn this song into an anthem
Fine Line (3rd verse) - this is more of a personal one for me, but the way he talks about where he's at in life and reflects is amazing
Is This Love? (2nd verse) - I might have recency bias, but the way he maintains that rhyme scheme is incredible

Great video I also love the third verse in sing for the moment. Such a great song in general to put on when you’re struggling with anything. some of my favourite Eminem verses in no particular order, Legacy, the third verse this verse is so motivational for anyone who doesn’t believe that they can achieve their dreams in life and Eminem knocks it out of the park by literally flipping the entire world the middle finger and saying screw you, I can do it and that part at the end where he says, the best part about me is, I am not you I’m me is something that all of us can relate to. either the first or third verse from cleaning out my closet I might choose the third one in this one you can definitely tell Eminem is trying to get his mother to understand how he’s feeling about what she did when he was a kid, but also frustrated and angry that she’s not listening to him and resorting to tactics to try and make him look like it was all his fault, the raw emotion that he puts into this verse as well with this song is incredible, but also tragic that a mother and son relationship has become this toxic at this point in his career and life and all he wants is his mother just to listen to what he has to say. the third verse of bad guy this verse, like you said, with Stan shows Eminem at his absolute best of storytelling and putting himself into the character that he’s writing about and becoming that person such crazy rhyme schemes, and the flow and the tone of the song is brilliant and the fact that it mirrors, the third verse of Stan perfectly is a masterpiece and also tragic that Matthews story ends the exact same way as his brother Stan obsessing over Eminem and driving over a bridge into a river. any verse from till I collapse but I’m probably going to pick the first one it has such an iconic buildup that gets you so hyped from the vocals to Eminem and going straight into the verse. Such a hard hitting beat, Eminem‘s rhyme scheme and cadence is crazy, and just has that never give up vibe to it like you said with lose yourself if you put this song on while you’re trying to get something finished it’s definitely great motivation and inspiration to do that. the third verse to not afraid I love this song in general to me. This is the song that officially declares Eminem is back and that he’s going to do everything in his power to become a better version of himself, and you can tell that he seems genuinely happy in this song I Love in this verse how Eminem is able to now stop and appreciate the small things in life and not take anything for granted, but appreciating what he does have, but being humble at the same time and promising that he’ll put what’s most important to him first, which is his family and their happiness, which I think anyone who has a family can relate and great to see Em happy like this. i’m sorry if this was a little long winded. Sometimes I have trouble getting what my brain is trying to say out in writing. Plus I was half asleep when I wrote this so terrible combination. Hope everyone has a great day

Nice choices Knox! Here’s five verses for you:
Bad Guy last verse (I also represent anyone on the receiving end…) Super emotional and powerful verse on his regrets as a rapper
Rabbit Run. Encapsulates perfectly the desperation he felt before he blew up and a super impressive technical song as well.
Soldier verse 3 (I spit it slow so these kids know…) is some of the most impressive flexing he ever did. He’s rapping about how much better he is than everyone while keeping a very impressive flow and rhyme scheme and it’s a super passionate delivery too.
No Love: excellent use of metaphor, variation of flows, crazy passionate delivery
    Premonition: awesome flow
Honorable Mention: You’re Never Over second verse

Best friend verse. How many layers to that verse are there dang
Personal impact: Beautiful first verse. Whole song got me through for sure
Technicals: I gotta agree with you. The way I am first verse. Perfect tech and also very sonically pleasing. The bounce is nod inducing.
Honorable mention: Patiently Waiting verse. Again with the bounce.

  • @SpiderJAAM
    @SpiderJAAM Рік тому +2

Damn this was a really good Top 5, this are 5 ones that are on my top 10 *(taking into account the writing, flow, impact and delivery):*
*Till I Collapse - 3rd Verse:* Even tho the 2nd verse is my personal favorite, the 3rd verse has better rhyme schemes and the aggressive delivery is perfect to close this song.
*Bad Guy - 4th Verse:* When the beat switches and he starts rapping with that distorted voice and intensity, that truly elevates the song. To the point where Eminem not only is criticizing himself for his controversial lyrics from the past but also giving an epic conclusion to the whole story.
*Em's Verse on Medicine Man:* Even tho it isn't as iconic as other verses, this verse perfectly describes Eminem. Not only showing his crazy versatility and aggressive delivery but addressing that even if people try to doubt him or try to put him down he will always try his best and he's ready for any conflict, also the production was fire🔥.
*Em's Verse on Best Friend:* This verse was in honor of his best friend Proof so obviously he would go as hard as possible, the flow switches and the aggressiveness plus this being one of the few times we ever saw Em on a more religious context makes this verse a big standout.
*Stay Wide Awake - 1st Verse:* Em raps as a serial killer with probably the craziest rhyme scheme I've ever heard from Em. The way he uses the phonetic sound of the words while also describing some really fucked up imagery it's just mind blowing.
*Honorable Mentions:* No Love - 2nd Verse, Drug Ballad - 1st Verse, Em's verse on Patiently Waiting, Rap God - 3rd Verse, The Ringer (the whole song), & Chloraseptic Remix - 3rd Verse

Amazing list and loved how you broke down each one of the verses. I would go with Cinderella Man, the first part of the song "Yeah
You know, technically I'm not even really supposed to be here right now So fuck it Might as well make the most of it" and then on to the Amen part about second chance. When I first heard that section it hit me so hard because I was given a second chance in life. I was an alcoholic and was told to give up drinking or that will be the end, so when Eminem said "technically I'm not even supposed to be here right now", yeah I certainly felt that.

Renegade is a perfect example of Eminem using multi-syllable rhyme schemes to give the illusion of rapping fast back in the day. Can't really pick a top 5 but my absolute favourite Em verse is the second verse of In Your Head, from Revival. The track seems kind of buried since it comes right before Castle and Arose, it's only two verses, the hook is a sample, etc. But second verse is pure content, he carries the rhyme scheme through the whole verse, and I've some people complain that it's a "choppy flow" but it sounds good to me.

Am way late into Eminem. Of course I knew some of his songs being growing up in the 90s and 00s. But i was (and still am) a rockhead, so hip hop wasn't really on my radar. But Lose Yourself is the song that made me think different of Eminem... he wasn't just another rapper that filled with controversy and clowing around. Really loved the music and inspirational lyrics, made me admire him for his resilience.
I really dived into more Eminem catalogues last year after watching the superbowl halftime. At first it was because of the nostalgia, but soon I fell into the rabbit hole as I found his songs are really good.
Aside from the obvious MMLP and TES catalogues, I really like his 1st verse from The Ringer - i think it was clever and raw, really loved his wordplay on that track.
