For the part for where plastic man and superman were fighting killer croc, that was an accident because superman was using his heat vision to destroy the tree logs, then plastic man transformed into a hedge cutter and superman's cape got stuck onto the edges of plastic man and it sent him to killer Croc's vehicle trapped.

Arnold Schwarzenegger made it more main stream and popular and many of the people who got involved afterwards could be considered to be want to be Arnolds. The same is true for super heros. Robin wanted to be Batman, Kid Flash wanted to be the Flash, etec. Reverse Flash is a case of someone trying to be a hero and when they realized they could not do it became so broken by it they became the opposite of their original goal.
