Sela, or Se La, or Selah, is found in the Bible. It means 'Peace" or "Peace be unto you." Its Hebrew, or the Hebrew translation. One of my favorite messages and one of my favorite Lionel Richie songs.
Out of no where this song just kept repeating in my head and I wondered what this word means, then I saw your post. Needless to say, I needed to see this. Thx for sharing. 😇
I love this song so much. I grew up in a time where positive music was on rotation every day. Nothing like listening to songs such as this on a Sunday afternoon, right after lunch. To Lionel and artistes like him (the spirit is the same, regardless of age), I say thank you.
As a kid born in 91, I always love listening to music from the 50's to the mid 90's. Had more creativity, talent, craft...most music, if not all, are just overloaded with effects which kills the song in general.
Not all doesn't mean some doesn't too, sometimes we need to think far, world is wide, there are young people likes old song while old people likes new song
I wasn't a big Lionel Richie fan, but this was definately my favorite song from him. It makes my all time favorite list as well. Very nice song with a positive message. The song is also another 80s hit I might add. The 80s the 80s the 80s!!!
Who said Sela is an underrated music?? U must be kidding..listen to the prophetic lyrics then you will know that it's all about love and for me the best ever music of the century !! A surprise that this genius can also excel in Reggae music..coz sela has all the ingredients of a Reggae beat..
Agreed, the stuff we hear today just doesn't grab me the way the sounds of the 80's does, it was a great time for music no matter what genre you're into.
I was working at a radio station when this song hit. I love the message and the reggae sound. I know times change and music changes with it. Our parents thought our music was foreign. But, in 2023, we need more music with a positive message like the one in this song. It wasn't Lionel's biggest hit. But, it was one of my favorites by him.
I love this song so much! Because Lord knows "Dancing on the ceiling" sucked so bad, so glad Lionel followed up with this song because it certainly was a great tune.
Another song the AM/FM broadcasters have thrown away in the trash. I had completely forgotten about this song, but that's to be expected...out of sight (or hearing, in this case)...out of mind. Se la topped at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the Adult Contemporary chart. We continue to lose our musical heritage, no thanks to broadcast radio's refusal to air these hits anymore. :(
I remember listening to this song on our way to Vegas when I was about three years old and we would stay at the mirage for my dads law convention. When I hear that chorus in the background I would imagine white horses and zebras coming out of that beautiful waterfall out front where they have the volcano at the mirage hotel at with lights and such a magical atmosphere.
My dear brother Carlos, you just melted my heart more then it ever was. I am short for words to express my gratitude to you for leaving that comment. I am proud to have you in the world with me, to share the amazing grace and comfort of the God of heaven and earth. I've been in tears for most of tonight, since I discovered this video at work. We can change the world. Praise to the Lord, and keep it going...SELA !!!!!
I also really love this song Tertanqui! I beleive it trully expresess what God wants for His children in this world. But wanting is not enough, we all need to do our share for this dream to become a true reality! until then I for one will continue to rise every morning an go to bed at night to the most wonderfull beat of 'SELA' until this drream comes true. Thank you for being part of the most Beautiful Dream of All , an until then I bid you "SELA' Peace!-Carlos.
Beautifulll... know this song since childhood.. and really listened to the lyrics today.. after 35 years.. always lobed the reaggey vibes in t.. nostalgia
The 80s were happiest moments of my life. In the 90s, I was still okay, but things started going downhill. After 2000, my life turned into a nightmare. It would take forever to explain.
I used to listen this song around 1989 onwards when I was six years old. If I remember well it was usually being played by either BBC Swahili or VOA Swahili immediately after their news bulletins at 7pm in the evening. It still sounds super-fresh when am now heading to the forth floor age-wise...
Peace to everyone on this planet. We're one people. We're members of one another. We have a common Maker, Who's the same yesterday, today and forever, whose mercies change not and compassions they fail not. Peace and love to everyone that reads this post. I love you all. Peace, abaundant peace to you. SELA ! ! ! !
You know sometimes I sit and wonder Just how this world would be If we had all the people laughing And everybody living in harmony We have to say se la, se la Talking to the people Se la, se la It's time you thought about it Se la, se la (hey, hey) Se la, se la There would be no more living in desperation And no more hatred and deceit Tell me can you imagine All the children playing And everyone dancing in the street We se la, se la, se la Do it, say it Se la, se la Talking to everybody (yeah) Se la, se la You play for the people (man) Play for the people It's time you know for everyone to come together I know it's hard but this dream must come to light Because life should be one big celebration I'm talkin' to you now Only we can make things right We se la, se la, se la Counting on everybody (yeah) Se la, se la I know you thought about it Se la, se la Se la, se la We want to say Se la, se la (ooh, ooh, ooh) Se la, se la Do it on the good foot Se la, se la Se la, se la Talk about it, sing about it Talk about it, sing about it Talk about it, sing about it Se la, se la All the children Tell me about the children We've got to help them now to survive One world, one heart, is our salvation Ooh, ooh, ooh Let us keep the dream alive Se se la, se la, se la Se la, se la, se la Se la, se la Well... listening to this track, ballerina girl and say you say me from a LP that has been played for the first time like 2 weeks ago ... that sound .... AMAZIN!! not to mention the songs by themselves ... love it
I find this song hard to evaluate because it deals with "supernatural" hopes and dreams, not reality as we know it.....Perhaps it is "the Gap" between Reality of "what is" and Reality "what ought to be", that motivated it? Veil of tears....! For way too many people....!
I had completely forgotten about this song from my younger days until recently and have finally tracted it down.its just as I had remembered it.great memories ...
Perhaps the best way to think of “selah” is a combination of all these meanings. The Amplified Bible adds “pause and calmly think about that” to each verse where “selah” appears. When we see the word in a psalm or in Habakkuk 3, we should pause to carefully weigh the meaning of what we have just read or heard, lifting up our hearts in praise to God for His great truths. “All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah!
This song was Lionel Richie's last hit single of the 1980s. He took a well-known break from the music biz (recording his own albums that is) for ten years. He was so busy recording music in the late 1960s and 1970s with The Commodores and then recording music as a solo artist in the 1980s, that maybe he just got burnt out by 1987.
I heard this song 2003, I have been searching for it since then. I only got it 2022. I have been searching for sailor instead of sela. Its a great song
When my daughter went to kindergarden, the teacher asked all the kids to sing a little song. And instead of a cute children song, my daughter went, "Sela, sela, there will bebaboe, sela". hahaha, i sung that song always while doing household things.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing that, I learned something new, now I like this song even more even after 31 years.
@@T8HPO Something I've been curious about my whole life.
i actually think it ment, its life/ thats life Doesn't matter that much. Great song :-)
Out of no where this song just kept repeating in my head and I wondered what this word means, then I saw your post. Needless to say, I needed to see this. Thx for sharing. 😇
Great piece
I love this song so much. I grew up in a time where positive music was on rotation every day. Nothing like listening to songs such as this on a Sunday afternoon, right after lunch. To Lionel and artistes like him (the spirit is the same, regardless of age), I say thank you.

One of Lionel Richie's underrated songs, but has that "Marley Reggae" power sound that is very much loved by THIS raggamuffin!!
It’s 2021 and I'm still in love with this song.. Woke up to it this morning, hitting replay everytime. Good old music..
This the type of music the new generation should listen to!!!
We do, well some of us
As a kid born in 91, I always love listening to music from the 50's to the mid 90's. Had more creativity, talent, craft...most music, if not all, are just overloaded with effects which kills the song in general.

I wasn't a big Lionel Richie fan, but this was definately my favorite song from him. It makes my all time favorite list as well. Very nice song with a positive message. The song is also another 80s hit I might add. The 80s the 80s the 80s!!!
The 80's was definitely a great decade for music but in my humble honest opinion the 70's was the best
Same here. "All Night" will always remind of my brother.
In 80's Micheal jackson and Lionel Richie ruled

thanks for providing this excellent music video. it adds a lot to the already maximal enjoyment of the tune.

Learnt it from my dad. He loved the song so much. Sela Sela Sela. Long for this type of world he sings about.
Same. My dad used to play this while in the kitchen over and over again
Agreed, the stuff we hear today just doesn't grab me the way the sounds of the 80's does, it was a great time for music no matter what genre you're into.
I haven't heard this song for so long. Just as beautiful now as then...Thanks!
One of his best songs. Had this on 45.
I grew up with this chorus, with this melody, with this beat, man, sweet old times
I grew up on this song in the 80's..a good song and a classic.. happy I found it.
I put this song on my holiday playlist and my Sunday playlist. The sound is so soothing 💯

Thank you for uploading this great music
That track is perfect.
Always loved this song...one of his best.
You know sometimes I sit and wonder
Just how this world would be
If we had all the people laughing
And everybody living in harmony
We have to say se la, se la
Talking to the people
Se la, se la
It's time you thought about it
Se la, se la (hey, hey)
Se la, se la
There would be no more living in desperation
And no more hatred and deceit
Tell me can you imagine
All the children playing
And everyone dancing in the street
We se la, se la, se la
Do it, say it
Se la, se la
Talking to everybody (yeah)
Se la, se la
You play for the people (man)
Play for the people
It's time you know for everyone to come together
I know it's hard but this dream must come to light
Because life should be one big celebration
I'm talkin' to you now
Only we can make things right
We se la, se la, se la
Counting on everybody (yeah)
Se la, se la
I know you thought about it
Se la, se la
Se la, se la
We want to say
Se la, se la (ooh, ooh, ooh)
Se la, se la
Do it on the good foot
Se la, se la
Se la, se la
Talk about it, sing about it
Talk about it, sing about it
Talk about it, sing about it
Se la, se la
All the children
Tell me about the children
We've got to help them now to survive
One world, one heart, is our salvation
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Let us keep the dream alive
Se se la, se la, se la
Se la, se la, se la
Se la, se la
Well... I know, I know
Se la (say it), se la (say it)
(Say it), (say it)
Se la, se la
Everybody come together
Se la (say it), se la (say it)
Don't hold back no longer
Se la, se la
Can't you see it, just believe it
Se la (say it), se la, ooh, ooh, ooh
Talking to you now
Se la, se la
Se la, se la
Se la, se la
Se la (save the children) se la
Se la, se la
