I love watching you both and am amazed at the beautiful and complex knitting you do. I am somewhat on the opposite spectrum. I have been knitting for a bit over a year, and am attempting to expand my knowledge and ability. Having so much fun with this. Sewing, I have been doing for 60 years. I am 71yo, back in the day they had “Home Ec” classes. I loved learning to sew, with this in mind, I took 6 years of this class learning more each year. Still do sew all the time, and feel confident in my competence to make just about anything. Knitting is new to me, and I am enjoying learning this craft. My process is to learn something new with each project: pattern, fiber, process, sizing, needles, etc. I continue to enjoy creating.
Jessica's face when Rachel said she bought 5 yards of the brown fabric... the simultaneous disbelieve and awe and loving judgy poke in her eyes really made me laugh out loud 😅
Thank you, girls, for another great episode!!! I’m knitting the “Weekender” plus the “Half and Half Shawl, a pair of socks from the Summer Lee book and my first lace project the “Cloudburst” fingerless gloves by Adrienne Grey (free pattern). I’m a quilter/sewer by day and knitter after dinner so I bounce with my projects 😂 Happy Knitting, Kathy from Massachusetts ❤
The seaway pullover is PERFECT for that dark brown yarn! This was one of my first favorites on Ravelry when I started knitting and love the idea of doing it in a darker color ♥
Oh my goodness. I think about myself when I was your age and all that I did but you guys I can't believe how much you can accomplish in such a short period of time. It boggles my mind.
Sophie shawl is nice idea to use that yarn. It’s going to be very beautyful. Just remember that decreasing takes more yarn than increasing. So when weighting yarn leave 55% for decreases. This way you don’t end up losing yarn chicken. You both have so inspiring plans for winter.
Your podcast is such a treat that I’m saving to watch at a later time when I’m not on the go and I can relax, sit on my comfy chair and get my knitting out.
I love watching your videos while I knit. I’m working on my second port jacket (amazing pattern, highly recommend) and I’ve started a zipper sweater light for my husband, a modified fisherquine jumper, and a self drafted saddle shoulder brioche cardigan that’s going to have double knit cuffs, hems, and button band that I’m super excited about. I’m also going to make a few hats for Christmas gifts!
I really felt inspired and kindred spirits with this episode. I ordered some darling subtly leopard print corduroy that I impulse bought with no plans. I have children your age but I feel that maybe a jumper may work for me. I like the idea better than pants. I am trying to clean out my stash, too. So I just finished the Garden Cardigan and I have La Bien Aimee yarn that is 4-5 years waiting to cast on the Magnolia Chunky Cardigan. I started the Riptide Slipover with newly purchased yarn and Sheep Camp Sweater from stash last month. I always have a ridiculous amount of whips going. Thanks for sharing your making. I enjoy your episodes every time. Also, I live in Burlington, KS.
It’s always a joy watching your videos, and so inspiring how quickly you knit up sweaters. I regret not utilizing the free time I had before kids.😂 I have knit the Monday sweater for my kids but haven’t made one for myself. I’m currently working on the Cargill junior for my daughter, Aosta cardi for myself, and some socks and beanies for Christmas gifts. Happy knitting!
The easiest provisional cast on that I have done is to do it right onto a Barber cord. Then the stitches are right there to be slipped onto a needle. I found a great tutorial on UA-cam. It really is easy!
Provisional caston is very easy. I’ve used it when doing the Oslo hat and makes a huge difference rather than trying to pick up the stitches. You both are amazing knitters and inspirational. Enjoy your podcasts.
You are a source of inspiration ! I'm knitting a Monday Sweater for my mom for Christmas ! I'm on the yoke and there's only 2 weeks left... ! Wish me luck !
Another great episode to sit and knit to. I'm currently working on a "modified" Alpaca My Scarf using yarn from my stash. I too want use the lovely yarns I've already purchased. Your idea of looking at projects for each season makes so much sense to me. I'm better at completing a more curated project list than simply saying "I want to make ______" as my list grows out of control quickly and becomes overwhelming. I draw inspiration from you both as you introduce designs and designers I may not be aware of. Thank You for taking time to make these videos. Happy Holidays to you and your families
Hi I’ve knitted the Petite knit Stockholm sweater, and love it, but you’ve inspired me to try the Monday sweater, I love it when you repeat a pattern….that says a lot! Thank you both for a very inspiring podcast.
Years ago I self drafted skating costumes and bridal and bridesmaid gowns (seamstress) and I always used a cheap muslin material and once I have what I want I take the Muslim apart and use it as a pattern remembering to allow for seam allowances. You can definitely can do it. You go girl !!!
Love your videos every time 😊 Very inspiring. I have sooo many socks planned. Mostly Christmas socks, which I will all finish in December. 😅 Jup, I‘m laughing at myself. 😂
Just recently started watching your channel and I'm in awe of the number of beautiful sweaters you've made. I'm working on a sweater that's nearly done. I'd frogged a cardigan I didn't like and chose a better pattern from one of my Vogue Knitting magazines. I've got the yarn and swatches for my next project, the Fall In Cardigan. I'm also finishing a pair of work socks. I've started making my own sewing patterns from RTW clothes that fit me well and it's worked surprisingly well so far. 🍁
Love your plans. I havent made the Monday sweater before but i know you both love it and have heard the same from others so i am going to make it with some Jaggerspun heathered yarn that was gifted to me and some Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Blackcurrant that i just ordered to go with it - felt justified buying as it was going to move stash yarn out and hopefully not actually enter stash itself. ;) Of course I wont be able to wear in Sydney for months but that’s ok. I dont worry too much about the seasons when i knit. Seasons keep changing. :)
Thoroughly enjoyed your podcast, per usual. I am on the Jessica train focused on knitting what I have in stash because the SQs of yarn in stash has gotten to the point that it weighs on me a bit. I am knitting the Stockholm Slipover for my mother, finishing my Helia for myself and finishing a pair of Hermoine’s Everyday Socks for myself. Winter plans include a pair of Sari socks and using my Sonder Sunday Morning DK that I bought at A Woolen Affair this year. On my third gauge swatch using it to determine the ultimate use. Next swatch is for the Ingrid Sweater. Hoping that can work, as a cooler, mohair-free version of that garment really appeals to me. That and a summer shawl for winter vacation travel knitting is surely all I need to fill my winter knitting schedule (and probably more than enough 😂).
For what it’s worth, I’ve knit sweaters with coast to coast yarn and haven’t ever had to alternate skeins. I also knit a sweater with Moondrake yarn in a solid color and didn’t have to alternate. Also that alpaca sport is dreamy. I was squishing it in store Sunday and it’s SO SOFT.
Your knitting math is accurate: You also need to price in all the fun and pride after finishing and wool by KfO is ethically sourced. The store sweater probably doesn’t have all the additional value.
My plans are to finish a sweater for my husband, make a vest for my dad, and hopefully make something sweatshirt -y for myself. I also hope to use some stash yarn
I am working on a pair of gift fingerless mitts which will get rid of a partial skein in my stash, yay! After that, I can’t decide what to cast on next but I have a sweater’s quantity of hand dyed yarn I splurged on from Ruby and Roses that I am both excited and scared to cast on a project. It will be a short sleeved sweater but I haven’t completely settled on a pattern yet. And then I have a ton of fabric that I bought for specific projects but I haven’t been able to make any of them yet! It’s hard finding time with young children. I love both your guys’ sweaters by the way! 😊
I loved seeing your Winter knitting and sewing plans! I am currently working on the Santa pillow by Kathy Lewinski which is going to be a gift for my parents for Christmas. 😊
I love a good project planning video! I’m working an a Kerr sweater. And my goal is to make a winter yoga sweater, a Sennen sweater and a calm down cardigan this winter. And lots of socks as I usually do
Love watching your podcast! You are both amazing! My goal for right now is to finish an advent calendar shawl I started last year! Yikes!! With the leftover yarn from that advent, I think I will have enough yarn to make a Musselburgh hat and fingerless gloves! ❤
I am making The Assembly Line A Line midi skirt for myself out of a Pendleton mid green and blue wool plaid. I am also knitting a Tin Can Knits Cardigan. I have made some bowl cozies for myself college age daughter to give to her roommates and I am making my son and his girlfriend some placemats and napkins. I think I also might cast on the Petit Knit Cross sweater on Christmas Day. I will also make some pajama pants for my son and maybe my daughter too. I am a teacher and so my time is limited until the holiday break. Working on knitting during the week and sewing on the weekend.
Lots of plans! I'm such a monogamous knitter... but i actually have 2 things going right now. One is the port jacket in Wool of the Andes by knit picks in the color dove heather that I'm holding with a Madeline tosh silk cloud (the old shibui which I love, in a silvery base with dark navy and reddish pops that is giving such beautiful depth to the kind of boring Grey. This is my first drop shoulder so out of my comfort zone but I'm enjoying it. And the other is a musselbrough hat out of 2 colors of magpie fibers swanky sock that I'm color blocking. So far they are both getting attention and it's making me want to cast on a Sophie scarf also. Who am I?
Ah I love all your plans! I’m currently working on a red Mouline Cardigan by Lene Holme Samsøe and it’s been so fun! And planning lots of cables this winter 😊
Thank you for another great episode. I’m working on my own colour work sweater design, using browns and yellows. I might have to make myself a brown dress to go with it. I spent ages trying to find one online that I liked without success. Time to dust off the sewing machine I think! 😁
Another fun and inspiring episode. I live in SoCal in the desert so as much as I love winter sweaters they just aren’t as practical for me. That said, I’m knitting on a pair of Ballad socks today and have vest knitting plans for the month of December. Plus, cardigans are always on my needles. Rachel, I wanted to mention on your brown dress, if you will take a large piece of the fabric in a rectangle shape, do the shirring to it THEN cut the front dress bodice piece you can easily achieve that dress with a basic dress pattern. Also, when doing your swan sweater (beautiful idea btw) decide how many stitches you want between the swans before you start. If it’s an odd number make sure your stitch count is odd for the front. If you want an even number of stitches, make sure it’s an even number for your front. And lastly, I LOVE the color you’ve selected for your shawl to go with your coat. That’s going to be stunning! Jessica, I’m so inspired by your stashing down. I really need to do the same thing. I think I enjoyed my knitting much more when I purchased yarn for each project as I went. I really need to get back there. Happy holidays to you both my friends. ❤
@@Nardaa-ox3be Absolutely. I really enjoy working with Knitting For Olive’s cotton/merino. I also really love Quince & CO’s organic cotton yarns. They are very easy on the hands and work up beautifully. And Knit Picks has a couple of great yarns… Woolen Cotton and Comfy. I personally don’t use a lot of linen because I don’t love the way the stitches look and it’s a little harder on the hands but it does make a divine fabric! I hope this helps. 😊
For the quilting pattern you have in mind, it's not very difficult to make your own quilt for this jacket! Just buy your fabrics and put polyfill in it for a more light jacket. The polyfill is a polyester fabric that is sold by the meter/yard and that can be put in coat for insulation.
I really enjoyed this episode 😊 Planning what to knit is really fun - I just have way too many plans. I'm almost finished with my Puff Tee by KfO (after I lost the first version and now have to wait because I did not buy enough yarn for the second version 😅). I think my next projects are going to be the Stockholm slipover and the Ballon Pullover from PetiteKnit. Besides Sari Nordlund will be coming out with two new and super pretty patterns I really want to knit.
I too want to decrease my yarn collection and I hope to make the Turtle Dove shawl, the coming together shawl, and the Clint Shawl this December and January. I would love to cast on a zipper cable sweater or a cable cardigan ( possibly the Braidy loop).
I am always so excited when I see you posted a video! 😃 Lovely plans as always. I am almost finished my Dagmar jacket. Love the pattern. Just be careful when you swatch. I think the original yarn is actually a heavy aran. I am in a little instagram KAL and almost everyone had trouble meeting gauge. Including myself. I am using Knitpicks Simply Wool Aran. My slightly stretched blocked gauge told me my gauge was a tiny but small but almost good. I am right between XS and S so cast on for the S. Well my swatch lied lol. I wanted a very oversized jacket but will get a nice loose fit cardigan that is slightly smaller than XXS. The pattern was a lot of fun so I am going to make a second one in a different colour to get my very oversized jacket the way it looks on Petiteknit.
Was working on the first sleeve of my Embla Cardigan while watching your winter knitting and sewing plans. I plan to knit the Amy Sweater by PetiteKnit and the Kip Sweater by Rebecca Clow. Love watching your videos, they have been very inspiring and I am looking forward to see how your plans turn out!
I know what you mean about wanting a pop of color sometimes. Last winter I knit a Kelly green ribbed hat and love the bright color. I’m usually a neutrals person. Right now I’m swatching for a test knit sweater and getting the toes done for two different pairs of advent self-striping socks so I can start the first stripe of each pair on 12/1.
I'm currently knitting a Tuku jumper by The Petite Knitter in KnitPicks Capra DK (a merino cashmere non Superwash blend) in Hollyberry(red) and Moonstone heather (a really light cool toned gray) and I'm obsessed with it. I have some other projects on needles but my MIL wants us to wear red and gray for a family photo for her wall and we go to visit her next week so I'm furiously and monogamously knitting on this one and I'm hoping to get it done in time
Just a note: when you click on the hyperlink for the Monday Sweater it goes to the Seaway Pullover. I love the Paul Sweater and the Seaway Pullover. Added them to my queue. Thanks!
I just found your channel today and subscribed. 🎉 You’re both so sweet and amazing knitters, and have inspired me to start a sweater. I’m thinking… 🤔 the Bookclub and the Paul sweater.
Quilting fabric is a simple process just take a 12x12 sample of fabrics and practice. There are quite a few tutorials to help you. I had no idea how to make quilted fabric and learned from UA-cam. Good luck with you adventure
I'm currently making some vanilla socks for my grandma and some Cozy Autumn Socks by This Handmade Life for my aunt for Christmas! and then on the side I'm knitting a Dagmar Jacket for my mom and two baby sweaters, let's just say my needles are full😅
That drab yarn would look great with another colour of mohair or wool yarn. For example, a light teal would look like magic. Just a thought when you mentioned the , not the colour I thought it was. Then you could have 2 garments instead of one.😊
I’m making the Ondawa sweater by Brooklyn tweed using the huge Tone cone that was on sale a few months ago. I’m thinking of ordering some corduroy from Black bird to sew up some wide leg trousers. 😅. I really enjoyed your podcast.
Jessica’s eyes when you said how much fabric you bought is priceless 😂 my goal for 2025 is to work through my stash also…..yarn and fabric. Any tips pattern for first cable sweater? Thank you for being so inspiring with your beautiful knits ❤
Ahh such a good goal! We are with you!! Choosing a cable sweater where all of the cables are the same or all of the cable rows are the same would probably be a great place to start! The my favorite things knitwear sweater no. 15 comes to mind for this first but I’m sure there are a lot of patterns out there that are similar 😊
All of the plans look great! Rachel, love the idea for the swan sweater! But I’m wondering if you’ll be able to get gauge with the KFO for the Cove Sweater. I made the Cove recently and it’s for worsted at I believe 18 st/4”. A good alternative might be the Clove Sweater by Rachel Kurihara. It’s a similar drop shoulder at a DK gauge (and almost the same name 😄).
I’ve been working on a Billie pullover since October for my fiancé! It’s gone very slowly because he’s super tall and I had to make a lot of pattern adjustments to the yoke in addition to adding loads of length to the body. It’ll be worth it when it’s done, but I doubt he’ll actually receive it for Christmas at this point 😂
Hi from Rachel! 🤗 Oh my gosh that is such a labor of love!! I made a Moby Sweater for my husband one time and it definitely did not get finished in time for Christmas 😅 it will be so worth it when it’s done!!
Hi Rachel & Jessica, really enjoy and look forward to your podcasts. I know what you mean about the Knitting for Olive merino Jessica looking a bit flat sometimes, probably needs the silk mohair to shine. I just finished the Fig Cardigan by Hannah.knit in KFO heavy marino Bark. Its blocking atm. Its nice and textured and will be a lovely staple piece, though it looks very subtle without the mohair. Ive knit a lot in their yarns and do love them. The average cost to knit an adult garment for me living in the southern hemisphere NZ is $200. But I've learned getting the right yarn is important. I have the Dagmar pattern by petite knit Rachel, Im thinking of ordering the yarn she uses just because it is going to be a lot of work and I want it to look as good as hers. What yarn are you thinking of using? Ive also just cast on the Chamagne Cardigan bt Petit Knit for the second time, my daughter Rachel loved and wanted the first one. Im knitting it in a possum merino from here in NZ and Isager soft silk mohair and Im loving how it is looking. Im not good at updating my instagram which is woefully behind all my knits.
I tried to knit to the amount of yarn I had with the Sophie shawl and knit to exactly half of my yarn but ran out on the decreases and had to order another skein. I believe I’ve heard on another podcast that decreases require more yarn 🤷♀️
Hello Rachel & Jessica, I absolutely love and enjoy your podcast, especially as a self-taught knitter! I have a question: What sweater patterns would you recommend for someone knitting their first sweater?
Thank you!! We’d definitely recommend something knit in the round and top down, like a circular yoke or a basic raglan! Petiteknit has novice patterns, and while we haven’t made them, we imagine they’d be good patterns to start with! ☺️🤍
i'm also planning on knitting the sophie shawl :) would it work to just keep doing increases in the sophie scarf pattern until it gets big enough? or do you think it's necessary to buy the pattern? thanks
I must have missed it when you said what sweaters you are wearing. Both are so beautiful, would you please say what patterns and yarn you used? Thank you!
I am jUst finIshing up on ChriStmas gift knitting, Sask. Roughrider socks, Vancouver Canucks socks with yarn from Polkadot Creek. Dryer balls (a request) and some fingerless mitts. Then I will be back to finishing off the Autumn League sweater that was supposed to be a fall Knit. My plans are to have 1 sweatee, 1 pair of socks (cuff club), 1 charity knit for out health care Auxiliary and one Christmas knit for Christmas 2025 on the needles each month in 2025. I also have 3 sweaters I never wear and want to reclaim the yarn.
I love watching you both and am amazed at the beautiful and complex knitting you do. I am somewhat on the opposite spectrum. Yep 😂
Yup! 🙋🏻♀️😉

Hahahahaha! Same! I was going to make this same comment! Made me laugh so hard! Ohhhh sisters 😁😁😁
It’s always with love but also.. 😂
same! it was so real
I was about to make a similar statement and yes I laughed out loud too!
Thank you, girls, for another great episode!!! I’m knitting the “Weekender” plus the “Half and Half Shawl, a pair of socks from the Summer Lee book and my first lace project the “Cloudburst” fingerless gloves by Adrienne Grey (free pattern). That’s so good to hear!! ☺️
You are a source of inspiration !
I'm knitting a Monday Sweater for my mom for Christmas ! I'm on the yoke and there's only 2 weeks left... ! Wish me luck !
You got this!! That is such a kind gift!! She must be very knitworthy 😌❤️
I love your planning videos, then watching your progress or fun changes.

My favorite podcast because I think the two of you are so adorable, informative, and inspiring!
Thank you so much!! 🥹🥹
Always love it when you post! I always find so much inspiration from your knitting projects 😍
Ahh thank you so much for saying this! 💛💛
Love the knitting/sewing review - you girls are so adventurous and that is wonderful - 😊

Hi fellow SoCal resident, do you do summer knits? If yes, wondering if you’d have any yarn recs.
Try doing the provisional cast on over a spare cable. I find that the easiest way to do it.
Ahh the green sounds beautiful!! It is fun to have those little pieces that stand out 😊
I'm currently knitting a Tuku jumper by The Petite Knitter in KnitPicks Capra DK (a merino cashmere non Superwash blend) in Hollyberry(red) and Moonstone heather (a really light cool toned gray) and I'm obsessed with it.
Thanks!
Ope, thank you for letting us know! We’ll get this fixed for next time!
I just found your channel today and subscribed. 🎉 You’re both so sweet and amazing knitters, and have inspired me to start a sweater. I’m thinking… 🤔 the Bookclub and the Paul sweater.
Thank you so much!! We love both of those patterns! 🤗
@ thank you so much!
I would love to try scout yarn! Wonderful plans, paul sweater is gourgeous 🤎
Thank you so much! Highly recommend the scout if you can get your hands on it! I think wool and co usually has it in stock 😊
The Bergman sweater a brioche hat another hat for my sister and a sweater for my husband
Maybe McCalls 7946 could work as a base for the brown dress?! 🥰
Im knitting it in a possum merino from here in NZ and Isager soft silk mohair and Im loving how it is
looking. Im not good at updating my instagram which is woefully behind all my knits.
I wish I could stash bust by gifting my sister some yarn leftovers!
It is pretty great 😂
I tried to knit to the amount of yarn I had with the Sophie shawl and knit to exactly half of my yarn but ran out on the decreases and had to order another skein. I believe I’ve heard on another podcast that decreases require more yarn 🤷♀️
Hello Rachel & Jessica,
I absolutely love and enjoy your podcast, especially as a self-taught knitter!
@@thosetwinswhoknit Greatly appreciated.
i'm also planning on knitting the sophie shawl :) would it work to just keep doing increases in the sophie scarf pattern until it gets big enough? or do you think it's necessary to buy the pattern? thanks
I must have missed it when you said what sweaters you are wearing. Both are so beautiful, would you please say what patterns and yarn you used? Thank you!
We completely forgot to mention what we were wearing, but the pattern names and yarns are all linked in the description! ☺️
Ah I love everything you two are planning to make!!! But also... would you two have space in your plans and interest in a test knit... 👀👀
Ohh that might be a possibility 🙊
What double pointed needles do you knit with, when knitting your socks?.
We both like the ChaiGoo brand metal DPNs!
Thank you.
🍀💕
