    Karsten, watching you was like watching Bob Ross painting happy little trees. You have an amazing talent for both tying really beautiful flies and explaining how you tie them. I just wish you were still posting!

      Lars Skalman I’m blushing :) Thank you for your kind, thoughtful words and encouragement. I’m certainly no master, just someone that loves to tie and share knowledge. I will definitely continue to share tying videos and make little tweaks here and there to improve them. I’ve heard it said before that your first video is your worst, let’s hope there’s truth in this... Karsten

    Karsten, I really enjoyed this very informative Tenkara Kebari tutorial. This will help me greatly when I'm tying my own kebari. Looking forward to watching more of you videos. Thanks for bringing your Tenkara knowledge to the fishing world.

    extremely informative video Karsten and a beautiful fly. Many of us will appreciate the detail and the extra tips and tricks you share. However, there are many who will not spend 15 minutes on one of these vids. I'm one of those who will watch Kelly Galloup take 35 minutes to tie a fly because he always explains the why and how. I look forward to your future videos and have subscribed and rang the bell. Best to you.

      Thank you Chris, that means a lot to me coming from you. I bought my Tenryu Furaibo off you a few years ago, that’s what got me started tying and fishing these beautiful patterns. Whenever I head up a stream with my tenkara outfit and a small box of flies it makes me feel like a kid again...

  • @JoeBtfzplk

    Absolutely beautiful tie! I'm pretty sure the lumpy/bumpy ties you often see in tenkara flies are not on purpose. I think a more likely reason is that the fish don't care whether the fly has a perfectly smooth taper, so why should the fly tyer? Dr. Ishigaki, one of the leading names in tenkara, boasts that he can tie a tenkara fly in 60 seconds (which indeed he can). You can't do a tapered body with precise touching turns in 60 seconds. Similarly, tenkara flies are not imitations of specific insects. In the rough and tumble mountain streams of Japan, the fish don't have time to inspect a fly. A rough impression of life is all that is important.

    Hi Karsten - can you please advise on an alternative to the Danville Size A monocord you used in this video? I'm struggling to find it, and would like to find something with similar flattening & cording abilities. Thanks for the great videos you've got here - love them.

    • @karstenneben3506
      @karstenneben3506  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Tim, the Danville’s sz A monochord might be hard to get. Ideally you want a multi strand thread that will allow you to flatten it. Although they have different qualities the Danville flat waxed 210 denier would be a good thread as would UTC 210. You could go even thicker say 280 denier as it’s all about getting maximum coverage and build up with minimal turns. Just remember the trade off is that it gets harder to control the look of the fly because of these very qualities. Like trying to keep the head small or the body slim. I hope that helps... K

      @@karstenneben3506 Thanks for taking the time to reply Karsten, that's great. I'll have a look into those options. UTC looks like it has a good range of colours so I might start there.

      Thank you Terry for taking the time to leave feedback, it means a lot to me. There will certainly be more videos in the near future. How much fun is Tenkara btw! The flies and fishing method distills everything into its purest form. I love the uncomplicated simplicity of it, makes me feel like a kid again when I walk up a stream with a box of flies and tenkara outfit. Cheers Karsten :)

      @@karstenneben3506 Thanks for the nice reply. I was bit misleading though-I've only used kebari flies with conventional gear. I'd maybe try tenkara one day but for the moment I will have to stay with what I have. I operate on a shoestring. But I love the flies and really enjoy tying them They work anywhere really. :-)

    Karsten, your last video was two years ago. What happened? Excellent information and presentation. Also, Karsten appears to be a Norwegian name. There is a crazy Norwegian on UA-cam who sails a boat. There may be more than one I’m sure. 😆. Hope all is well.
