Athena's looking more "spiffy" every day and I really like the way the white has lightened and opened it up while bringing out the beauty of the natural varnished pieces. Nice job as always. Thanks
It is so cute to revisit old videos and listen to you thinkin you were about to splash Athena anytime soon .. man I am so glad you didn't realize what a long haul you were in for.. You are THE boat refit academy everyone talks about - atleast in Sweden...
Good old boat:) Good for you, you deserve it for sure! Been watching you for a few years, only recently been youtubing myself. Mine is not sailing focused, but thank you, as I had a subscriber from south Africa that was because of our connection to you. I really enjoy your take and hope my wife and I will one day return to active sailing. Cheers!!!
I love your videos. They are always informative and entertaining. Congratulations on the recognition in "Good Old Boat", you deserve it. Best wishes from Gale in Lakeport, California
Hey Mads, I have been following you for about a year now and really enjoyed all of your episodes (thank you!). Today I went back and watched a few episodes from 2014 (table leg installation). I just wanted to say WOW! Your editing and recording skills have come a long way. This is in no way meant to be a put down. All of it is way better than I could ever do. On the contrary, you should be very proud of how good your skills are now. Once again, thanks for all you do. Be well ~ Billy
Congratulations on the mention in Good Old Boat! Its one of my favorite publications and a real boon to your skills and projects that they took notice. Keep it going!
United States Marine here, love your videos man, I look forward to them every week. I was pretty worried there wasn't going to be one today, but I was happily surprised to see it. Keep up the great work!
Mads, great video. You still managed to accomplish your projects and hit the boat show as well. Many attendees will use the show as an excuse to put off work and stroll through the show. Nice job on the aft cabin. It's coming along. Congrats on the new stove/oven. Something you use every day should meet or exceed the needs. Good news on the new employment position, sounds like it will make transportation issues vanish like a summer squall. Fair winds my friend.
Nice one Mads. I had a much older water pump that was noisey so taking a lesson from my submarine days where sound mounting was in full swing I put a piece of closed foam pad on the pack of the pump drilling holes for the mounting bolts then applied it to the bulkhead. The sound suppression was great...maybe you could use it on more noisey electrick motor equippment. Best always Jack
I've been using the shurflo pumps for years. They are reliable and the 3/4 chamber rotary pump method delivers a smooth flow. Repair parts (diaphragms and pressure switches) are available and easy to replace. I have used them for salt water washdown pumps as well. My advice is to buy two. Living aboard puts greater demand on much of the boat's infrastructure than the weekend sailor. When I install the water pump, I use male/female spade connectors on the pump and the spare. You can be guaranteed that in the event of a pump failure, it will happen when you (or worse, your mate) are all lathered up in the shower. The water connections are simple, so two hoses and two quick connections and you can rinse off! You can take care of mounting the spare and repairing the original at leisure.
Great idea! Thanks :) Any suggestions as to what model of pump I should go with? The sales rep recommended the Aqua King II Premium because I'll have multiple faucets and a shower.
Right now, I have three spare pumps buried in the bowels of the boat, so I'd have to look (they go with me from boat to boat...). The 'standard' is 3GPM. I see in Defender that JABSCO has higher capacity pumps of the same type design, 4GPM and up. Those are good, too. $$$=Flow rate. I don't think the number of fixtures matters all that much, as one or two people are seldom using water in different locations at the same time. If you plan on having company that will be showering in two places, hosing down the dog in the cockpit while you wash the dishes, water pressure is the last of your worries.
Great progress Mads! A quick suggestion, get yourself a cabinet scraper for removing epoxy squeeze out. A scraper will plane off thin shavings of epoxy until you're just down to the veneer without sacrificing any veneer to sandpaper. I find it gives exquisite control compared to sanding which is a bit like brute force.
I really like your videos - you have such a nice and easy way of narrating your stuff and your handywork is marvellous! Now I am looking forward to owning and working on my own boat in a few years.
Great Job Mads. The aft cabin is looking great! I look forward to all the new goodies once you start doing the electrical too! Its gonna be a great setup
You may be able to quiet your pump down by rubber mounting it. They usually come with small rubber washers but they are not very effective. Try using some rubber hose to isolate the pump from the hull or cabinet that may be acting as a diaphragm. Also, I added a small pressure tank to my system, the pump starts and stops less often so may last longer, the water flow is smooth, over all less noise.Regarding the oven temperature, it's common to put a pizza stone or large ceramic tile in the bottom of an oven to even out the temperature distribution.Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to the rest of us !
Sorry about the delay :) I'll do my best to publish on time next weekend! :) Judging by all the positive feedback it looks like I'll be replacing that pressure water pump in the spring :)
Couldn't believe how many of the sailing channels I am subbed to were in that Old Boat magazine article, very cool! Good Job Mads! It probably has already brought a few subs your way...
great vid and congratulations on being published and on the new job. Love it when the universe cuts you some slack. Look forward to seeing what is next.
Nice video, I really enjoyed the boat show segment, I didn't know you can actually get deals on products on events like these, really good to know. And that stove with your countertop and the paint will look very amazing! The chrome/black colors look amazing
Mads, another great do it yourself video. Congrats, too, on making the Good Old Boat issue. When I saw the article I said, hey, I know that guy!! While Alfy on Moonbeam (life is like sailing) should also have made the issue, congrats to you. And, as always, with care and diligence, "Spiff Happens!" Good show!
I have the shurflo dual impellor pump with exp tank .. fantastic quiet unit .. runs a everything on the boat.. even a power shower :) .. great video as usual .. keep up the good work
Thank you for another informative video Mads! Last summer I replaced an ageing and backflushing Shurflo pump for a five chamber Johnson WPS pump which has served us very well. It is sturdier built and is in my ears on the same noise level. If you are in no rush I'd suggest you check out their range.
We both laughed a lot through this one , Mads. I have played back the masking tape reveal clips in super slo-mo and added a Barry White sound track. Mmmm. Niiiiiiiice.
I wasn't thinking of buying a new stove today....then I watched your video and had a flash back of thoroughly cleaning the stove on the boat I bought last year.....damn you ! :-). Guess now I'm going to be doing some shopping.....
Wow, the aft cabin is really starting to look great! One of the things that is really important to any captain is a functional nav station, and it looks like you've done well designing yours. We looked at the Eno and a few others then settled on the Force 10. My only requirement, as well as First Mate's, was that it have a big enough oven to handle whatever she wanted to cook. We opted for the three-burner because it had the largest oven. Keep oven size in mind. The Maretron gear looks pretty neat. I'm thinking I'll be looking into their products, too.
Mads, I was beginning to wonder if I'd get my weekly Sail Life fix!! Great stuff today. Love seeing lots of little progress. Wish u we're in the states--I'd come help you paint that hull when it (finally) dries out!
Boat show looked to have some cool stuff, looks like the wait for this video was sure worth it, kept refreshing your channel waiting for your video like it was drugs or something....
Nice work Mads. I'm upgrading Unbridled with Garmin too. I think you'll like the chart plotter. It links to my VHF which is a bonus. My water pump tanked last year so I was paying attention to the units you field tested. Condensation is a problem I'm trying to remedy. Somewhere I saw a hard plastic underlay that created a nice air gap between boat and beddingv. Can't recall if it was one of your discoveries. Congratulations on your new job. Athena is coming along. Hope the sunny weather comes back to assist. I've enjoyed you videos and following the progress. Not much ice the winter but winter winds on the Great Lakes are nasty dangerous until late May. Splash! Cheers for now. Canada
Mads, I've been RV-ing for years and the shurflow pumps are great. The problem is they sound very quite at the RV and boat shows, but not so much when you install them. You have to run a loop of hose, both in and out, when you hook them up. Shureflow sells a quiet hose kit just for this purpose. If you don't have enough Pexs water line to loop into and out, you can buy the kit...its worth it. I would go with a low flow pump. After all your always trying to conserve water while at sea. While tied to your slip, the pump will not be used. Cheers...
Don't have a working knowledge of that EXACT pump but Shurflow and FlowJet are probably the top two US market water pumps as far as sales go and in the past I have had good results with both manufacturers products.
Hello Mads Congratulations whit the new job, unfortunately I didn't meet you at the boat show, maybe another day,som when in Denmark As I am new in this game, I was there Saturday and Sunday whit my wife and it was great See you:-)
We actually replaced our old fresh water pump with the exact model you show in the video. The old pump was an older Shurflo which I think functioned for more than 5 years (we purchased the boat in August). The new pump is not as loud as the old pump but not as quiet as I had hoped. It also pulses on low flow. I had hoped a newer model would eliminate the need for an accumulator tank. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think our backup pump, a Jabsco 2.9gpm PAR Max, is quieter and can deliver a consistent low flow stream without pulsing. The only issue is the total volume of water seems to be noticeably lower. The volume is sufficient for a shower but the pressure is not as high as the Shurflo. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos! They've given us the confidence to tackle some scary jobs on our boat!
Mads, In your last video you compared a cheap nylon brush to a badger hair brush for varnish. Recommend you try a Jenn foam brush- simply throw away and fantastic job after a little practice. Keep up the great work.
Really great to see you recognized in Good Old Boat! Well deserved, Mads. The boat show was informative and fun. You're coverage was looking on the professional side. Thank you! I like your Windows Phone Developer shirt! :) I noticed WhiteSpotPirates is right below you in Good Old Boat. Nike's channel is a joy to watch also, and I think she doesn't live far from you.
Such a logical lovable geek.....cracks me up he wants to be a star but an educational star ....I love his dog and that he loves the dog ...I am hetoro so no dumbshit comments I just can't believe he is this dedicated
Thanks :) I don't really have any aspirations of becoming a star - but I do enjoy sharing what I'm doing with all of you :) But you are 100% correct that I love Jökull! :)
Thank's for showing the stuff on the boat show. The owl is to scare the birds away so they don't shit on your boat, some also use snakes or crocodiles.
Great video Mads, I really liked the boat show scenes. When you do your electronics video be sure to include any schematics. I am curious to see how you go about it.
Well worth the wait Mads. Cabin looks awesome and I will be going with the Hempel White when I redo my Rival. Also great footage from the boat show and cooker looks just right. I keep forgetting to mention, I would think very carefully about the wood trim around the galley area as the one you have shown in your earlier videos is very low and I think you will find it will not keep items where you want them. Have you tried plates and bowls on the worktop sliding against the fiddles?
Hmm - off to the States again to see some friends? Why don't you come to Australia and make some new ones? Anyway - great video once again Mads. There is a lot of good advice in your vids for my project..
I've just gotten back from taking Jökull for his evening walk and the wind is howling and it's just below freezing. A bit of warmth doesn't sound all bad right about now ;) I'll keep you guys down under in mind next winter :) Thanks for staying tuned :)
Like William Martin, I have used Shurflo pumps for years. I have never found an application where they didn't perform at least as well as expected (and usually much better than expected). Like William said also, parts are easy to come by, and easy to rebuild units save you money down the road on pump replacement costs.
Re the quiet freshwater pump, I replaced my noisy one with a similar quiet model. Following a leak that saw 500l dumped into the forward bilge from failed hot water connector, the noisy one was put back. The piece of mind from hearing the pump only when you know water is turned on, and not hearing it at other times is well worth putting up with the occasional burst of noise. It's a cheap and almost idiot proof method of ensuring you don't have a leak on the pressurised side of your fresh water plumbing. Just food for thought....
HAHAHAHA It's funny that I'm subscribed too all the channels that I saw while you were browsing thru that magazine and yet.....I never heard of the magazine itself...( ofcourse yours it's my favorite channels )
Athena's looking more "spiffy" every day and I really like the way the white has lightened and opened it up while bringing out the beauty of the natural varnished pieces. Nice job as always. Thanks
Thanks so much for finding time in your busy life to share the refit with us, Mads! I wish you the best!
You are more than welcome :) Thanks for staying tuned :)
It is so cute to revisit old videos and listen to you thinkin you were about to splash Athena anytime soon .. man I am so glad you didn't realize what a long haul you were in for.. You are THE boat refit academy everyone talks about - atleast in Sweden...
I really like your paint and varnish scheme. It brightens up the boat a lot.
Thanks! I like it too :) Seems people either love it or hate it :)
Good old boat:) Good for you, you deserve it for sure! Been watching you for a few years, only recently been youtubing myself. Athena is looking SO much better. You are doing such a good job.
Was starting to worry there was no video this week. Glad u made it👍
Fear not! If I need to skip a video I'll be sure to post about it on FB :)
Hey Mads, I have been following you for about a year now and really enjoyed all of your episodes (thank you!). Today I went back and watched a few episodes from 2014 (table leg installation). Thank you so much, Billy :) I agree 100% the videos have come a long way :) I'm glad you noticed :) Thanks for staying tuned!
An oven on a gimble sounds insanely awesome. I can't wait to see it.
Congratulations on the mention in Good Old Boat! Its one of my favorite publications and a real boon to your skills and projects that they took notice. Keep it going!
Thanks! :) I was very flattered to be included in the article!
United States Marine here, love your videos man, I look forward to them every week. I was pretty worried there wasn't going to be one today, but I was happily surprised to see it. Keep up the great work!
Congratulations Mads on making The Good Old Boat magazine!
Thanks! :)
Glad to hear of your good luck in finding a job closer to "home". Great work on the aft cabin!
Your dedication to the channel is inspiring! Thank you for all that you do for us fans!
Thank you so much :) I'm sneaking up on my 3 year anniversary here on UA-cam. Perhaps I should do something to celebrate that :)
It's great to see new toys are on the way Mads. Enjoy.
Thanks :)
I don't know if I'm the youngest with my 30 years but I'm going to sail a kievit 680 of 1974 and like you I'm fixing her thanks for the good videos
Mads, great video. You still managed to accomplish your projects and hit the boat show as well. Many attendees will use the show as an excuse to put off work and stroll through the show. Thank you so much! :)
I'm currently painting my boat and I love your tip on the plastic bag over the paint tray!
Awesome timing :) I'm glad you found the video useful :)
Congrats on the new toys. It's always nice to get new stuff. Looks great.
Please don't worry about your video length! I love watching... and the details are great....
Nice one Mads. Thank you Mads for next great video, and fantastic painting tip;
Have a nice day!
Congratulations on the new job! The boat is looking great, so cool to be able to follow the transformation.
I really like your videos - you have such a nice and easy way of narrating your stuff and your handywork is marvellous! Now I am looking forward to owning and working on my own boat in a few years.
Perfect timing for an upload! I"ve literally just finished watching every single episode this weekend.
Great Job Mads. The aft cabin is looking great! I look forward to all the new goodies once you start doing the electrical too! Its gonna be a great setup
Thanks Tony! :) I'm looking forward to that too :P A LOT! :)
Good to here about your good fortune with the employment situation. Not being rushed is a good thing.

You're late! I waited all evening (GMT+1)! I can confirm: my shureflow is indeed near silent. Thanks for a great Vlog!
Mads, I love all your videos ....very good job of research and doing the work, easy to understand
Athena is starting to look great ! keep up the good work!
I have been noticing, does it rain all of the time there. Just kidding. Your boat is looking great, your workmanship is outstanding.
Great video, thank you for taking the time and all your efforts to making these. It's great inspiration.
Congratulations with another new job. Sounds this will make your life much easier and ensures us a steady flow of great new video's.
Awesome tips with the varnishing and painting! You just made my day!
Thanks! :) I'm glad you found the video useful :)
Been watching you from the almost the start. Love all your videos but this one was the best! You have come a long way. Great work Mads :) Thank you
Thanks! I do remember your username as one of "the old ones" :) Thanks for sticking around :P What in particular did you like about this video? :)
great vid and congratulations on being published and on the new job. Love it when the universe cuts you some slack. Look forward to seeing what is next.
Thank you! I like it when the universe cuts me some slack too :P
Nice video, I really enjoyed the boat show segment, I didn't know you can actually get deals on products on events like these, really good to know. And that stove with your countertop and the paint will look very amazing! The chrome/black colors look amazing
Congrats on the article Mads....boat is looking great.....
Loved the boat show footage! Congrats on the magazine article!
Thank you :)
Congrats for the new job ! Congrats for the last coat of paint ! Thanks for this video, very inspiring as always :)
Beautiful work in the aft cabin ! .. looks awsome... its very satisfying when stuff starts to come together .. good job Mads :)
Thank you so much :)
Great video, I am learning allot about boat's from your videos. Thanks 👍
Thank you so much :)
Happy to hear the job worked out
Mads, another great do it yourself video.
Another great video. Thanks Mads.
Thanks! :)
Nice job Mads - keep up the good work.
Woah, nice stove! Congrats on the new, new job!
We both laughed a lot through this one , Mads. I have played back the masking tape reveal clips in super slo-mo and added a Barry White sound track. Mmmm. Niiiiiiiice.
yeee my weekend is complete.Thank you for another great video!
You are more than welcome and thanks for staying tuned :)
I wasn't thinking of buying a new stove today....then I watched your video and had a flash back of thoroughly cleaning the stove on the boat I bought last year.....damn you ! :-). Guess now I'm going to be doing some shopping.....
My apologies :P
great episode Mads! Cheers from PEI Canada, Bryan
Thanks Mads as always really informative and helpful!
Thanks! :)
Great video Mads! You looked quite comfortable filming in public! Good job you!
Thanks, Josh :)
Noticed that too :) Not sure I could do that... But hey there is almost nothing Mads wouldnt do for us here on youtube ;)
Had to re-play to clarify that you actually said 'Marketing Wank'
Then I laughed for a good minute. Perfect deadpan delivery too.
Hehe :) I'll try to stick to the schedule next weekend ;)
Hey hey Mads congrats on the magazine !!
Hey Moe :) Thanks! That was pretty cool - not every day that happens :)
Dinner at yours when using your
new oven!!! Great vids has always.
It might get a little cramped if everyone shows up ;)
Excellent video once again......
Athena is coming along. as always great presentation

Aft cabin is looking great Mads. I love that stove too!. Once you are living aboard Athena, made us a video of you cooking or baking bread with it.
Don't have a working knowledge of that EXACT pump but Shurflow and FlowJet are probably the top two US market water pumps as far as sales go and in the past I have had good results with both manufacturers products.
Hello Mads
Congratulations whit the new job, unfortunately I didn't meet you at the boat show, maybe another day,som when in Denmark
As I am new in this game, I was there Saturday and Sunday whit my wife and it was great
See you:-)
Great content as always! Keep up the good work
It just dawned on me that your catchphrase is "That looks pretty damn spiffy". Really informative video as always!

Thank you so much :) I've been subscribed to Nike's channel for years :) Great videos!
Sail Life, I looked for Nikes channel, the only thing that comes up is Nike shoes😕 even when I add sailing to discription
try white spot pirates or untie the lines one of those should find her
charles curtius, Thanks. I didn't realize that was her. She is an amazing woman. Used to watch her videos all the time 😀
Such a logical lovable geek.....cracks me up he wants to be a star but an educational star ....I love his dog and that he loves the dog ...I am hetoro so no dumbshit comments I just can't believe he is this dedicated
nonslave totally agree.
Looks great nice work and shopping
Great video as always.
Good on you mate !!
Cheers from Australia
Great video Mads, I really liked the boat show scenes. When you do your electronics video be sure to include any schematics. I am curious to see how you go about it.
Love what your doing.
Thanks - me too :P
Well worth the wait Mads. Cabin looks awesome and I will be going with the Hempel White when I redo my Rival. Also great footage from the boat show and cooker looks just right. I keep forgetting to mention, I would think very carefully about the wood trim around the galley area as the one you have shown in your earlier videos is very low and I think you will find it will not keep items where you want them. Great to see the progress Much better not moving saves lots of time
Thanks! :) I totally agree :)
Looks great! Of course I keep wiping dust off my laptop screen thinking it might be a speck of dust on your paint!
'Pretty dang spiffy' Love it!
Great to hear you've removed that commute and retained your career path.
Pretty cool episode Mads! You will need the owl...
Thanks :) Hehe - I hope not! ;)
He and Athena might show up on your horizon one day ;)
Like William Martin, I have used Shurflo pumps for years. I have never found an application where they didn't perform at least as well as expected (and usually much better than expected). Like William said also, parts are easy to come by, and easy to rebuild units save you money down the road on pump replacement costs.
Nice editing, mister!
Did he say " marketing wank " ? LOL !!
Always Awesome !!
Always kind :P
