Hey everyone! I was the runner for this particular run at SGDQ 2017 and thought I'd offer to answer any questions concerning this run or Majora's Mask in general, since there was a lot to cover and I couldn't possibly explain everything in just two and a half hours. Reply to this comment and I'll get back to you as soon as I can :)
Well, I'm following you with a certain consistency so, I'm quite informed about Majora's Mask but I just wanted to thank you for all those streams and your two GDQ runs. You're a super informative and funny guy, and you do your best at not beeing too serious about yourself, and keep entertaining us. And I simply love it. I never made me too loud in your streams, but I felt to thank you there :) See you in your future streams !
Well normally when you play Song of Soaring, but haven't hit any owl statues, the game informs you you can't soar. However, despite the hidden owl statue not being a regular owl statue, having hit it allows you to reach the map screen to select your soar point. However, the hidden owl doesn't have it's own map index, so it will place your cursor on the default map position, which is Great Bay. This default map position can be changed by placing your cursor on different positions on the map subscreen before playing Song of Soaring, as the position of the cursor on this screen and the Song of Soaring screen share a byte in memory. This page details this more in-depth as well as lists the map positions that correspond to the game's 10 owl statues: zeldaspeedruns.com/mm/msb/index-warp
Trev, great run, really enjoyed watching! I was impressed you came back from the swamp grotto fail and still got in below estimate! Also loved the glitch exhibition. If you had more time, what other glitches did you plan to show off?
WOW runner was great at explaining tricks for non-runners/ people who don't watch runs of this game. especially impressed since the couch was no help lol
I'm always fucking amazed on how you can remember so many details during a 2h40 speerun. It was really enjoyable, let's hope we see more MM and OOT next GDQ :)
27:15 They collect a rupee and the as his rupee counter ticks up, so does the actual donation money and the donation stops right when the rupee sound does. just somthing funny I noticed. thought Id mention it
Oh my god. 2:22:07 onward is hilarious. Link does a bizarre dance, impresses two other dancers, presents them with a fish, but no, that's not enough, they must experience the BOMB as well. And then he denies their gift of a heart, as I'm sure this would make Link too worldly - though he then goes to get a huge wallet, which both the characters in-game and the audience applaud. Amazing.
In response to 29:47, I'm fairly certain that the rupees you deposit in the bank don't need to be able to transcend time, nor does the bank manager. When you go to the bank, the bank manager identifies you using a stamp on Link's body. I'd bet that the stamp not only shows Link's identity, but his account balance as well, and that the stamp is the only thing that needs to be able to transcend time.
Xavier Fernandez it's not a theory, the guy literally tells you this the first time you deposit rupees with him. He even explains how it's invisible ink which is why you don't see the stamp on Link in game.
That doesn't make any more sense than the rupees or bank manager transcending time. If Link is going back in time to before he deposited the rupees, then his balance would still be 0.
While I respect your opinion since all we can truly do is theorize, please let me offer my argument. Typically, banks practice a system called "fractional-reserve banking", a system in which a bank actually holds only a fraction of its deposit liabilities. This essentially means that all of the money in the bank is kept in the same "pool", and people who make deposits, make withdrawals, or get loans are merely adding to or subtracting from said pool. However, this does not change the value of one's balance. The reason this works is because it's very likely that customers will not try to withdraw a total amount of money that the bank does not have all at the same time--an incident called a bank run. As Link's balance is not actually a physical thing--rather, it's simply a value that the bank is liable to take out of their reserve and give to him should he request it--the only thing that needs to exist to show that Link does indeed own that many rupees (even though he technically doesn't own them, assuming the bank's reserve doesn't transcend time) is documentation of his balance's value--the stamp. Because of this, neither the bank manager nor the bank's reserve must transcend time. However, my hypothesis is dependent solely on the assumption that the stamp transcends time. Interestingly, assuming my theory (which, might I add I am almost certain isn't originally mine) is correct, Link actually poses a very large threat to this bank, unless said bank is quite wealthy (which it probably is, considering that it is the sole bank in Termina), as his balance may exceed the bank's reserve, resulting in a bank run were he to withdraw it all. Unless he were to spend it all in the town, he could easily ruin Termina's economy. But, alas, I suppose it's all just a theory--a GAME THEORY. Thanks for watching!
Weeks of work when I was kid, done in 2:39:51.. so amazing! I didn't Full complete the game I got a fair few of the masks, then didn't know what to do afterwards. Still absolutely Insane to see all this done. Much love to everyone that does this! ❤ 💕
25:09 look at the camera; look at the guy on the left side of the couch and one of the guys in the crowd behind him. i call black magic. definitely puppeteering.
The runner said that he's bad at faking the death warp in Stone Temple, but I don't know, he had me very worried that he wouldn't have enough time for Twinmold. Entertaining and impressive run!
The heart palpitations were real for that entire last 6 hours and leading up to the Twinmold fight like jesus christ.. Then immediately learn that nah it don't matter. But still. If it was possible in 7 inverted minutes. Hype as hell.
TrevPerson had a lot of bad luck with this run, but it was impressive nonetheless, even with "mistakes" that end up breaking the game more like the Snowhead OoB glitch.
The Goron trial at the end of the game is a challenge for me. Why? Because even although I press nothing other than the a button, I still, somehow bounce in strange directions and off the map.
Sometimes I watch these speed runs just because they runners are playing a renowned game that I never got to play, so I just watch them speed run it so I don't need to play it
When he rewatched the intro cutscene, does it also reset all your progress, or does it result in some weird new-game-plus-ish state where some of the items and upgrades you already got get preserved?
I'm pretty sure that requires more computing power than rendering the original image to begin with, so there is no way that such a ting was jammed into a tv when this game was released.
Brendan Russert majinphil ran any%, this is all masks. Any% has no requirements, you just beat the game ASAP, but all masks you get…well, all the masks.
Wait, what? There's a seahorse that guides you through the water maze? Why? The signs show the path just fine at all times, and even as a kid that seemed like the easiest way to get around there!

Just curious, how does Index Warping work? I never understood it

I actually only skipped 1 glitch I planned to show, which was Flying Zora.
Why does the runner seem like one of the nicest guys I'll ever see
Because he's Canadian
WOW runner was great at explaining tricks for non-runners/ people who don't watch runs of this game. especially impressed since the couch was no help lol
sikay Yeah, especially weird since in zelda runs the couch has always help commentary.
trev is such a polite person
When the camera zoomed out showing Spikevegeta dying of laughter from the music box close up. Just magic lol
I'm always fucking amazed on how you can remember so many details during a 2h40 speerun. It was really enjoyable, let's hope we see more MM and OOT next GDQ :)
You should see the Final fantasy 7 run they did, its 8hrs long and they have to memorize the way they walk EVERYWHERE to manipulate random encounters!
Matteo Joachim That's probably the any% record. This run is all masks which is quite a bit slower
27:15 They collect a rupee and the as his rupee counter ticks up, so does the actual donation money and the donation stops right when the rupee sound does.
just somthing funny I noticed. thought Id mention it
9:53 I never expected my music box to make it onto stream a second time, let alone become something this hilarious/creepy. I love you guys.
Seriously that box was something else!
INCREDIBLE!
I thought it was super cute! ^^
Do you sell them?
I like the fact that Trev had a few unfortunate things happen and didn't deter him. Good on him for sticking with it. :)
Very entertaining! Love TrevPerson's attitude.
Trev is really a precious person. Great speedrun!

2:17:52 I felt was hilarious XD
Shout out to the guy on the couch chewing gum with a mic 1 inch from his mouth
Seeing a speedrun of a game were you are trying to beat the clock is truely amazing
Best thing about this awesome run is the gravelly way Trev says 'alright' under his breath throughout!

Yeah, he only ever states that that's how he keeps track of who you are.

THAT STONE TOWER TEMPLE SEGMENT WAS THE DEFINITON OF ANXIETY.
OMG! I've been a fan of majora's mask since its release and I've never known about that pun with the fairy names...

The pirate fortress was pretty amazing. While he was doing it, the timer was going with the beat of the song
Trev is a good runner. Kinda wanted EnNopp but I'm not mad
The heart palpitations were real for that entire last 6 hours and leading up to the Twinmold fight like jesus christ.. Then immediately learn that nah it don't matter. But still. If it was possible in 7 inverted minutes. Hype as hell.
same i legit thought he would fail the run at the stone tower, especially because he had screwed up at sakon's hideout earlier
Good run, and wow, I really like the runner, amazing, humble guy!
As soon as I heard the song of time Maaaaad flashbacks to my youth

The Romani Mask was my last mask because I was stressed I wouldn't be able to defend the barn.
it was such a lost opportunity in breath of the wild to not have the hookshot
Oh god, it's so good they DIDN'T include it, it'd break the game so hard
It would be pretty useless, you could climb anywhere anyway
Perfect thumbnail.
@1:12:46 That was a pretty good Navi impersonation.
awesome run
TrevPerson had a lot of bad luck with this run, but it was impressive nonetheless, even with "mistakes" that end up breaking the game more like the Snowhead OoB glitch.
