The day this video goes up in my 6 year UA-cam anniversary. I just want to say thank you for watching me throughout the years. I hope to release more great videos this year. Thank you all so much!!!
@expressbean64 I totally understand your view about the great discovery but for me as a longtime Thomas the tank engine fan, Thomas the Tank engine ended at Thomas and The Magic Railroad and it’s a movie that still holds a place within my heart! Hence the part where mr Conductor says “And so we’ve come to happy end of our story and it’s time for all of us to go home. just like Thomas” then Thomas’s Whistle echoing in the distance one last time! That made me tear up and wave goodbye to my childhood But I do agree that the great discovery is a wonderful movie an is second best in my opinion but I see it as a stand alone movie. But I do agree with you how wonderful it was. But personally, like I said, for me Thomas the tank engine ended on Magic Railroad. But great video! Keep up the good Work Thomas the tank engine forever
The Great Discovery feels like the perfect series finale to the Model Series. Though personally, I think that The Great Race, Season 21, Journey Beyond Sodor and Thomas and the Royal Engine are all the perfect series finale to the whole show in my opinion.
It’s truly felt like a celebration of everything that came before it. Solid picks for finales. The great race is severely underrated so I like that you gave it a shout out. I referenced it a bit in this video however it definitely needs more love.
I prefer if Thomas never ended but I guess season 21. Mostly because it had good episodes and the series would have ended before the horror show that followed it.

No ya James didn’t have to say all that 💀. Thanks tho this video was planned to release almost two years ago but honestly kinda glad I waited. I was able to deliver something “great”.
I enjoy great discovery, but I feel I can never enjoy it as much as I want to.But I do enjoy hearing you're perspective and makes me see it in a new light as an ideal finale. If I were to have chosen a finale I would pick confused coaches. I like the idea of the TV seat ending with a Gordon themed episode to parallel the railway series
I feel like I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the special. That was a big part of this video since I wanted to make sure my reasons were valid and not just nostalgia or me saying cuz I like it. Confused coaches is honestly a cool choice. Like you said it would’ve acted as a call back to the RWS and it ends a 15+ year rivalry
Not to mention they got literal James Bond to narrate for The Great Discovery. Which, in its own unique way, kind of feels like how the original early seasons were narrated by one of the Beatles. That feeling of having this well known and renowned figure narrating Thomas And Friends.
Add onto the fact 2008 is a turbulent year in which David Milton the original series director and narrator George Carlin each died months apart, it’d feel nice that a show they each had a part in had a nice sendoff
We could only hope. Considering Marc Forster's upcoming movie, and Mike O'Donnell's channel description mentioning the film, that could be something to rely on, but for now, again, we could only hope.
Three Cheers For Thomas is the perfect ending to the classic series, The Great Discovery is the perfect ending to the model series and The Royal Engine is a fantastic ending to the original series as a whole. Despite Mattel robbing us of getting a 25th season of the original series, I personally reckon they would’ve end it off with Thomas coming home to Sodor for one last time.
As far as I remember, The Adventure Begins comes straight after Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure, and I wouldn't want to miss out on the Adventure Begins.
While I do prefer for the original Thomas to never end to begin with, but if I were to choose, it’d be the cancelled Season 25 of the original series so that way, it would’ve continued where Season 24 left off.
Wonky whistle was the perfect series finale. In all seriousness though, I honestly agree that the great discovery could have been the perfect way to end the show
honestly I feel like the series should have ended with Three Cheers for Thomas as the last episode for the whole series. Sure it isn't epic and all amazing but it does a pretty good job showing on how Thomas has changed from his S1 self to what he became later on. Also when it comes to the original crew who helped to make what Thomas was. it's also a really good note to end on when it comes to that. Just a nice simple episode
I personally believe Journey Beyond Sodor feels like the series finale. Thomas and James have had a rivalry ever since the HiT era, and this special really feels like it put it all to rest, not to mention the season before it, Season 21, already feels really finalic.
I'd say there are a few points in the series history that could have been good series finales for example season 20, Journey beyond sodor, and Season 21, and Thomas and the Royal Engines
If bwba was written properly, it would be my pick, but ot wasn't so i'm choosing journey beyond sodor. Thomas wanted to the mainland, and he got huge adventure there.
I will admit that The Great Discovery is a great end to the model era, and I wish we could have more cameos from characters, we haven't seen for a while, and I love the Great Discovery as a kid. I will admit the royal engine was a good ending for Thomas, but I would love to see cameos from characters we haven't seen for a while including the one and done characters from the Hit era.
I feel Hiro of the rails is a pretty good ending but for me the best one is either the great discovery or Tale of the brave. TOTB has a really nice ending with gator fading away in the background on the boat to his railway. With Percy accepting gators leaving for good and overcoming his fears. Thomas and James both restore their friendships to a better state and they both develop well in the movie
The Great discovery was the last time they used the models before switching to animation. I would say Hero of the Rails would've been the best series finale
I really like Hiro of the rails. It feels like the only time the steam team are the ones in charge of the story not just Thomas. Maybe if it was made as a part of season 12 it could’ve been a fun send off for the model series.
My opinion on how thomas should have ended is basically the same as yours the great discovery is such a fantastic finale to the franchise that im shocked it even came from the hit era
The Great Discovery is the perfect ending to the model era but the series overall really suffered from writing and HIT misdefining the characters so while the Royal Engine works I agree there could have been something better If I were to make a timeline I would 1 make sibling relationships normal again instead of toxic 2 lose the rhyming and learning segments 3 fix what I could including Edward and Henry being kicked out and 4 move the BWBA to AFTER TRE and make them less offensive Making BWBA worth watching to me means losing the offensive stereotypical depictions and having Thomas meet engines from around the world in their countries…he could learn a bit about the different cultures but would also learn how different engines in different countries work and get to see the beautiful places trains can take people Now the reason Thomas leaves in the first place is an invitation to Sodor to participate in an international train expo and Sir Topham allowing Thomas to represent Sodor and agreeing he can leave early so he can enjoy the journey and see all these amazing places on the way During the journey he does meet several new engines but also old friends like engines he met in the other movies and of course Hiro in Japan…he can even meet engines who know his friends back home like Victor or Luke…once he finally reaches the expo Thomas gets the surprise of his life with all the engines he met on the way arriving after he does to be part of the expo too…after the expo Thomas heads home to find everyone waiting at the station for him and while he is excited to tell everyone what happened he first tells them he has a surprise…everyone he met followed him to Sodor to finally see and experience his home Everyone stays on Sodor for a month or so learning about Sodor trading stories with the engines and even helping out…when it is time for the engines to start heading home the engine crews promise to keep in touch and to visit again before too long…the Sodor engines meanwhile have all gained a newfound respect for not just other cultures but also different kinds of engines just like Thomas did…and they are all excited to see what the future holds…especially if engines who were never brought to the series finally get introduced and decide to stay on Sodor The series would end with a look at all the engines going about their work not just on Sodor but all around the world…and maybe just maybe the Royal engine would be seen making a journey to Sodor and the queen presenting the statue of Audry to Sir Topham at the station just like in the book…meanwhile the music playing over all this could be the instrumental theme to Shining Time Station…I know this is an American show used to introduce us to Thomas here in the states but to me this is the perfect ending and tribute…heck even characters of all the Mr Conductors and Christopher Awdry could be created and appear at the presentation right at the end with the engines That’s how I would do it anyway
Honestly I’m torn between Three Cheers For Thomas and The Great Discovery. TGD is the obvious choice since everyone gets a cameo before steaming into CGI (except for Lady), but since it’s part of the HIT era and Pierce Brosnan didn’t do a UK dub of his lines, I’d say Three Cheers For Thomas is THE finale to me. It’s a lot less grand, but it symbolises Thomas growth throughout the years, and this was the last episode given to us by composers Mike O’Donnell and Junior Campbell, Director David Mitton and Producer Britt Allcroft. The REALLY Useful Crew.
Hit Entertainment Seasons, Mattel Seasons, all engines go:… Thomas? None of that could truly destroy the Thomas franchise, if it ain’t really part of it. Besides, a genre of media, books, movies, games, etc., can never truly parish so long as the fans and people who enjoy it remember and continue to stoke its flame, as denoted via there own Thomas based content, and their assortment of media surrounding it in there home.
I feel like the Great Discovery should have ended the model series in a fantastic fashion rather then do the last two season that basically “test runs” CGI Animation. The Magic Railroad was the first thomas movie and the great discovery should have ended the model series. Hiro of the Rails begins the CGI series and the Great Race or Sodor Legend of the Lost treasure or better yet make the Royal Engine should have been an hour long special that ends off the series in great fashion

@expressbean64 I agree that The Great Race is severely underrated.
Though we wouldn't have BoCo or Duke return before that which is why the show should and remain going on.
I prefer if Thomas never ended but I guess season 21. Mostly because it had good episodes and the series would have ended before the horror show that followed it.
For me this is the REAL END of Thomas and friends and nothing can change my mind
Tale of the brave seems like a perfect ending to me. it has the main 3 character's and each has a great character arch that matures them
I really like your reasoning. It builds off of their dynamics in KOTR and has a nice send off for the trio at the end
I 100% agree here

I think BWBA should’ve ended with an episode expanding on the ending of the BWBA movie
And Thomas couldn’t have been happier. The End.

Thomas smiled, he had wanted to be the leader of the track
I say Thomas should have ended with Hooray for Thomas.
Agreed

I think if it had ended it should have been blue mountain Mistry or sodors legend of the lost treasure

Season 21 Cause We Don't Wanna See Bwba
The Great Discovery is the perfect ending to the model era but the series overall really suffered from writing and HIT misdefining the characters so while the Royal Engine works I agree there could have been something better
If I were to make a timeline I would 1 make sibling relationships normal again instead of toxic 2 lose the rhyming and learning segments 3 fix what I could including Edward and Henry being kicked out and 4 move the BWBA to AFTER TRE and make them less offensive
Making BWBA worth watching to me means losing the offensive stereotypical depictions and having Thomas meet engines from around the world in their countries…he could learn a bit about the different cultures but would also learn how different engines in different countries work and get to see the beautiful places trains can take people
Now the reason Thomas leaves in the first place is an invitation to Sodor to participate in an international train expo and Sir Topham allowing Thomas to represent Sodor and agreeing he can leave early so he can enjoy the journey and see all these amazing places on the way
During the journey he does meet several new engines but also old friends like engines he met in the other movies and of course Hiro in Japan…he can even meet engines who know his friends back home like Victor or Luke…once he finally reaches the expo Thomas gets the surprise of his life with all the engines he met on the way arriving after he does to be part of the expo too…after the expo Thomas heads home to find everyone waiting at the station for him and while he is excited to tell everyone what happened he first tells them he has a surprise…everyone he met followed him to Sodor to finally see and experience his home
Everyone stays on Sodor for a month or so learning about Sodor trading stories with the engines and even helping out…when it is time for the engines to start heading home the engine crews promise to keep in touch and to visit again before too long…the Sodor engines meanwhile have all gained a newfound respect for not just other cultures but also different kinds of engines just like Thomas did…and they are all excited to see what the future holds…especially if engines who were never brought to the series finally get introduced and decide to stay on Sodor
The series would end with a look at all the engines going about their work not just on Sodor but all around the world…and maybe just maybe the Royal engine would be seen making a journey to Sodor and the queen presenting the statue of Audry to Sir Topham at the station just like in the book…meanwhile the music playing over all this could be the instrumental theme to Shining Time Station…I know this is an American show used to introduce us to Thomas here in the states but to me this is the perfect ending and tribute…heck even characters of all the Mr Conductors and Christopher Awdry could be created and appear at the presentation right at the end with the engines
