Fabulous opera. If only it could be performed today in the opera house in a Romantic production with great singers. One of my favorite bel canto works. It's right up there with Lucia, Giselle, yet anticipates verismo in a couple of places. The pizzicato sections right before certain ensembles remind me of Stravinsky's Petroushka.
Giselle? As far as I know, there isn't an opera Giselle. there is a ballet, but comparing a ballet to an opera isn't a comparison.
A magical opera for the audience and an exhausting opera for the singers.This is a fantastic rendition.

Belle interprétation, Renée Fleming est magnifique. L'ensemble est cependant un ton en dessous de la version de 1969 avec Caballé.

I didn't remember the last was so... how saying that kindly... less perfect we used to lesson from Renée Fleming, especially at that time. But this scene is crucifying. Only Aliberti made a miracle, once, in 1988. Even Caballe, who did it very well in 1969, sang only one stroph and omit the last high note (not written in the score by the way).
