Your statement that you don't ever want to watch this again is a very personal & understandable response. What has happened with Ren, however, is that, by relating his own pain, he has shown thousands of those "who live in the dark" that they are not alone. Indeed, they are far, far from alone. It has brought great comfort to so many just to know that & to feel understood.
Hi Mike, welcome to the Ren community where you'll be supported with ❤. You alluded to your experience while reacting; we all appreciate you being brave enough to put it out here. I hope you'll find what many others including myself have, i.e., Ren and his art is a beacon of light that soothes and heals even when the most challenging topics are highlighted. ❤❤❤
New sub here from Arizona, I'm here for any and all Ren reactions. As a 54 year old music lover my whole life, Ren has reconfigured my mind for the better and REN-EWED my heart & soul by making me really hear music for the 1st time in my life! Thank you for the great reaction! 😁 what an amazing journey awaits you!
Ren "Gill". According to Ren from his interview on the Charismatic Voice UA-cam channel, this is a one take audio and the video was spliced together from 4 different takes. And yes, it's live.
Sending ❤ I don't know you but I can see how deeply you related to Ren's story. He has scores if not hundreds of other songs to listen to, in all sorts of genres, some deep like this but many are fun. Ren is a lovely human being and well worth following. His "One Million Subscribers: Defining Success" video shows the kind of person he his. Thank you so much for your heartfelt reaction. Subscribed.
The fact people don't think some of Ren's performances are live, or say there are cuts when they're actually one takes is a testament to just how good Ren is. Don't expect anything with Ren, I sometimes thinks he takes it as a personal challenge to defy expectations.
I see that many of my fellow RENegades have commented and let you know you're not an idiot. It is live, there's a Lav mic on his gown collar. While there are more than a few people like yourself that aren't really sure they want to hear this again for their own personal reasons, there are just as many of us that take time every day to see if someone new has ventured into the RENeverse and we're all a twitter with anticipation. Never EVER feel bad or apologize for having an emotional reaction to Ren. I still cry a little bit when he stands up. The world doesn't deserve Ren but man are we so very lucky to have him. I'm only one of many RENegades that are here for your journey of Ren, if you choose to embark on that journey. And if not, we're still here because of Ren and we love you.
Mike's comment about mics drew my focus to the lav, to see if it was hard to see. If you focus on it during all of the character switches, you're in for a surprise.
Most of Ren's songs are similarly honest and vulnerable. He's been through a lot, and tackles some taboo subjects: in my opinion he does it in a way that is mostly very positive. If you would like to hear more of Ren's music but stick to more positive songs, there are a few that spring to mind... Ren busking covers with his former band, the Big Push's original song It's Alright; Ren's songs Ready for you, Power, the Love Music series (especially parts 1-3), Uninvited, his retake of Back on 74.
Hi, I have watched Hi Ren so many times I can't tell you how many. We are witnessing a genius in our lifetime. Even Andrew Lloyd Webber believes he is one of a kind. He is totally self taught and when you see him play the piano you will be shocked. It's funny, I have seen some reactors get so excited to see Ren rap and miss the whole purpose and meaning of his songs. They all have a serious message. I tear up when I hear this song, but not for me, but for the many people out there who are, or have suffered like Ren. His "One Million Subscribers" UA-cam message tells you a bit about Ren and the magnificent genuine person he is. I have never witnessed anything/anyone like Ren in my life before. It's like he is saintly! Take a bow Ren!!!❤❤❤❤
I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.
You don't have to dance anything hard. You can just sit in a chair and rock, or even just breathe. Life is just a serving suggestion. You can even make a whole new recipe. I think there's parts that you're overlooking, the really comforting parts. But it is extremely ironic. I really hate how much I love irony. But you got a part of this I haven't seen anyone else get, that I feel very strongly too. Thank you for sharing that! You're really good at expanding metaphors. Thanks for sharing that. I've watched this thousands of times with other people reacting and just his original video sometimes. I love watching it and crying with the reactors. It really helps lower my sodium! Peace.
I almost didn't watch bc part of MY joy is watching the microexpressions on people's faces but I stuck around bc CLEARLY you don't do this for a living (YET) so I figured it was worth a watch. When he starts singing it hits a lot of people which is why I wanted to see your face. Ren knows people who got off the floor. He's written a couple of songs about it. But he's an AMAZING artist so you should check out more of his stuff.
I understand you having an emotional reaction to this masterpiece and not wanting to see it again, but you aren't the only one that it affected on an emotional level. I would encourage you to watch reactions to Hi Ren, which many of us are addicted to. I must add 😅 So you can see the different ways it's affected people. Ren has been through a lot in his life and has a wisdom beyond his years which comes through in his brilliant music, but he also has a way with getting those feelings out of you so I would suggest to bear that in mind b4 you continue reacting to him. But if you do carry on, expect your channel to grow exponentially...there are many, many Renegades ❤ Subbed for more ❤
Live, yes. The best of four one-take complete run-throughs! Self-taught guitar too! Independent of a label - so only the mics on his gown and the guitar. Hand-held cameras too! I was hit deeply the first time I heard it because the beginning seemed too real for me and the people I know - but the end was redemption! Genius. a suggestion - maybe position the lights so they do not reflect on the screen?
Nice reaction. Please check out some positive Ren too - back on 74, losing it and love music 1,2,3 and 4. All Rens songs are relatable and honest. I think you'll like them. Subbed and ready for more!❤ lots of love from a New Zealand RENegade 🇳🇿
MIKE Here Get's My EAGLE EYE AWARD! I went for the "one take" claim, and about a month or 2 ago noticed, when he took off the guitar, his hand magically switched between in front of (thumb up) and behind the neck (thumb down)... I noticed the gaff with his hand on the neck removing the guitar. Even over a year ago, maybe 2, I noticed his picking hand did not match the audio on a bar or 2 of the outro. You can see him digging in with the pick, strumming, when the audio has very clearly silent rests. I know it's very common that we often strum the air to keep pace and timing on syncopated chops, but it's very clear that he's not lifting on those bars, and you would hear string "scratches" on those syncopated rests, if he was just muting with his left hand. When Mike here mentioned his mic question, I fixed my gaze on the lav and noticed something very interesting about it on MANY of the "cam switches"!
If you rewind a little, after pausing, you won't miss anything. :) P.S. This is absolutely live! Recorded live, in one take! He has a lapel mic, there are also camera mics, on multiple cameras and there's also an overhead mic. Btw, "ideally" it would be terrible if there wasn't that alternative voice, much as we may hate it. That's pretty much the point of the song. :)
Basically it works like this with Ren: What genre is Ren? Yes. Does he do _______ ? Yes. Basically, if you ask the RENegades (your viewers) to suggest a song just say what you would like to hear! 😁 Rap: The Hunger EDM: Listing It Piano: Mackay Storytelling: The Of Jenny & Screech Cover tune: I Shot the Sheriff
... And nice reaction. Welcome to the New RENaissance.... My take is that it "hurts" everyone, on different pain levels. Only Perfect ppl are unaffected by a Critical Half, but I don't know anyone like that. But, avoid hiding from Painfulness. No Progress or Growth is made from a position of Comfort and The Familiar. Ren's point, IMO, is that the struggle between Hope and Cynicism, produces Meaningful Progress, and that fighting to "Defeat" that Darker aspect of ourselves, can only cause Greater Suffering. 2 sides of the same Coin, which is U....
"Ideally, that wouldn't be a part of you..." There ARE people who don't have that questioning, challenging, derisive self-criticising side of themselves. One just got elected to the White House, and we had one as Prime Minister of the UK not so long ago. We just shouldn't let that part of us rule us as individuals - nor let anybody WITHOUT that part of themselves rule us as nations
I didn't notice the mic either. However, he did miss it and he was specifically looking for it, and he has a big screen and I have a cell phone. It's a bit weird, but I can understand why. Ren, kind of shocks you right away.
@RockPowerUSA Yes, everything about Ren gives you that, "no way!" feeling. The more you learn about him, the more you admire his strength, resilience, determination and talent. He is a genuine once in a generation artist. If you haven't watched the "Chapters", do yourself a huge favour and take the time to do so. I can guarantee you will be shocked and amazed. Just search "Ren Chapters", there are 8 of them and obviously you should watch them in the correct order. If you decide to watch them, do me a huge favour and let me know here what you thought. Best of luck, Alan.
@@RockPowerUSA He was looking for mics. That doesn't mean he was looking for body mics! ALSO... If he's near sighted, his glasses make close viewing REALLY SUCK!!! Great points otherwise though. There's a shitload coming at you on this video!
@AlSnoopsReid It was a short glimpse on a first watch! DID YOU NOTICE THE LAV!!!! STUDY IT THROUGH THE ENTIRE FUCKING VIDEO!!!! You're gonna be SHOCKED! I hadn't until MIKE here made his comment. Up until now I was judging the "one take" by focusing on his posture, head position, & facial expression. If you're not looking in the right place, yeah you miss shit! WELCOME TO THE CLUB! LOL
@@Tricknologyinc You LIKE exclamation marks. Lol. You even like them even when question marks are normally used. But, if you like to attack AND blame, it is the way to go. It is still quite popular out here in UA-cam world. "BTW, HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁" "....🤬"
WATCH the lav closely on camera switches! WATCH picking hand digging in on strumming 16ths on syncopated chord strikes in outro! I noticed his right hand too, while taking off the guitar...
So... Live-ish. This is take 3 of four takes they did. He's wearing a lapel mic if you look closely, and the room is set up for recording. It's a beautiful piece of art. As is your reaction, I very much enjoyed it. Check out some other Ren stuff, there is a lot of good stuff, none as heartbreaking as this. I think maybe musicians resonate with this more than sane people.
It's not "live-ish" ffs! What are you talking about? All 4 takes were recorded live, in single takes, with multiple cameras. Ren chose the third take. I also concur with the other person posting. Just of the top of my head I's say The Tales, Suicide and For Joe are easily more heartbreaking. I'd probably include Mackay, Depression, Crutch and Money Game 3 too. If I took the time I'm sure I could come up with several more. Hi Ren actually contains some humour and self-deprecation and the overall message is pretty hopeful. In fact I'd say that it's the hope and positivity that really end up pulling on the heartstrings, despite the darker notes.
You'd be best to face the camera like looking on your phone rather than looking away, because we can't really see your reaction...just a bit of constructive criticism for your future in reacting .. anyway welcome to the Roller coaster ride that is Ren.
I appreciate the feedback. I’m going to try to upgrade the quality but I’m just getting started at doing content. Need to upgrade my equipment more than anything. Thanks and keep watching!
Ren's willingness to be si vulnerable and authentic with us makes him the voice for the voiceless. He speaks for the millions if peopke who have gone missing from life due to chronic mental and physical illness. Ren is adhd and had occasional hallucinations even as a young child but became very sick at 19. Midiagnised and given the wrong medication for seven years bedridden until finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. In those years the disease damaged his brain, body and immune system. At 26 a stem cell transplant and correct medication brought him back to life. But he still has symptoms, autoimmunity and relapses. Self taught musician, music has always been his therapy. Welcome to our world
I agree, though if he uses his phone or a laptop, he'll need headphones. The audio on the tv wasn't great but it will be even worse on a laptop and abysmal on a phone. Even earbuds would do, though some proper over-ear headphones would be best.
I thought it was fine, not every reaction video has to be set up the same way. it felt more personal with out all the overlays and pip that most creators do. gj
It would be better if you could set yourself up so that we are watching your reaction rather than the back of your head. Ren has a lot of material which cuts deep.
I was going to say the same actually. Weird watching the back of his head and watching Ren on a tv screen. However, it was a lovely reaction of what we could see nevertheless Possibly going forward, just a suggestion not a criticism and to help your channel, maybe consider putting the video inside your reaction (not sure how other reactors do it tbh) but that works really well bc we get to have good visuals/audio plus get to see your face throughout) 😊. Either way, subbing for more ❤
Where are his mics? Why not try LOOKING AT HIS COLLAR - by the guitar strap, This is very much live and one take too. Also, you to rethink your set up. No point in doing a reaction video if we can't SEE your reactions!! This is also from his first-hand experience, When he was 17 he was infected with Lyme disease which went undiagnosed for over 7 years - while his doctors treated him for mental health issues and told him 'it was 'all in his head' - until a doctor in Netherlands (I thik) diagnosed Ren correctly,
I could see his reaction mostly. I had a bigger issue with his lights reflecting on the screen! AS FOR: "Where are his mics?" I had a similar reaction to the mic-v-live comment, but I kept watching the lav at that point. You might want to pay more attention to that yourself before you get cocky about what someone else noticed in a single view! I also noticed a gaff with his hand on the neck removing the guitar about a month or 2 ago, and over a year ago, I noticed his picking hand did not match the audio on the whole outro. When Mike here mentioned his mic question, I fixed my gaze on the lav and noticed something very interesting about it on MANY of the cam switches! MIKE here gets my EAGLE EYE AWARD!

Renegades will not only watch the whole 9 minutes, we'll watch 100s of people watch it over and over ... and over. Welcome to the Rabbithole, Alice!💜
This song has already changed more peoples lives for the better than any other piece of music ever written.

I agree that it hurt to listen to Hi Ren, still do after 1000+ times. But it also gives me strength and hope, it helps me dance.
Same with me, I’ve probably seen this 300+ times.

Ren Gill.
@@rog2224yea I know what his name is
@@timbrown6715you may know it but you didn’t seem to hear because the reactor said Gill not Hill.
@@Punatik you may know it but u apparently didn’t see what is thumbnail originally said.
"Ideally, that wouldn't be a part of you..."
There ARE people who don't have that questioning, challenging, derisive self-criticising side of themselves. One just got elected to the White House, and we had one as Prime Minister of the UK not so long ago. We just shouldn't let that part of us rule us as individuals - nor let anybody WITHOUT that part of themselves rule us as nations
wahhh wahhh off yourself then
Did you not notice the Lavalier mic on his gown???????

"....🤬"
REN is a great artist you should check out some other music from him. Nice to see your face Mike 😊
It's live alright! One shot too! One cut for the last part though...
WATCH the lav closely on camera switches! WATCH picking hand digging in on strumming 16ths on syncopated chord strikes in outro! I noticed his right hand too, while taking off the guitar...
It's live
So...
I'd say there are several as or more heartbreaking than this.

Exactly 💯💯💯
WOW REN WON ❤❤❤❤❤
I thought it was fine, not every reaction video has to be set up the same way. it felt more personal with out all the overlays and pip that most creators do. gj
Ren is awesome
Well said 😢😢
❤
It would be better if you could set yourself up so that we are watching your reaction rather than the back of your head. Ren has a lot of material which cuts deep.
I was going to say the same actually. Weird watching the back of his head and watching Ren on a tv screen.
However, it was a lovely reaction of what we could see nevertheless
Possibly going forward, just a suggestion not a criticism and to help your channel, maybe consider putting the video inside your reaction (not sure how other reactors do it tbh) but that works really well bc we get to have good visuals/audio plus get to see your face throughout) 😊. Either way, subbing for more ❤

Live one take
Where are his mics?
Mike needs a Mike. It’s hard to understand you sometimes
it’s a lapel mic
