  • I had gotten home from work earlier this afternoon and was relaxing on the computer when I heard 8539 blowing their horn at one of the crossings near my house. Thinking they were heading north, I went northwards only to find out that they were actually heading south, which caused me to miss them on that direction. However, I did get them at Green Cove Road when they were finishing up switching and then on the trip back north to downtown Huntsville, where they stopped and tied down for the evening along Heart of Huntsville Drive, just south of their yard.
    HMCR 8539 is a GE B39-8 was originally built by GE For their leasing company, LMX, who leased this engine (and many others like it) to the Burlington Northern, though when that lease was up, the engine was sold off to another leasing company who then sold it again to the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway, where it served for a while before getting sold off again to the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad out in Colorado before the engine was put back up for sale again several years later and bought by a third leasing company before it was finally bought by the HMCR. At some point in all of these ownership changes prior to its acquisition by the HMCR, this engine broke down and started only being used as a parts engine, and was considered to be that or scrap by the HMCR when they got it (in fact, this engine didn't even have a horn when the HMCR got it!), however, after the HMCR put some time and effort into fixing it up so that it would run again, this locomotive was put back into service and is now receiving its first coat of fresh paint for the first time in years, along with it beginning to loose its former LMX/MMA identity.

    Sweet! Were starting to see more orange on 8539! Also you spelt ownership "onwership." Also I see drake avenue had it's bell fixed/replaced finally!

      Don't worry. I make spelling mistakes too. What kind of paint scheme do you predict 8539 here will have?

      Seems so, yea. Personally, I kinda like its fouled horn.

    Do you know what the horn is on 8539? someone told me it's ether a fouled k3la or a hybrid of somekind, to me it doesn't sound like a fouled k3la

    • @freebrickproductions
      @freebrickproductions  2 роки тому +2

      No idea, TBH. Apparently it's literally a 3 note horn mounted on a 5 note manifold, so your guess is as good as anyone else's...

    • @freebrickproductions
      @freebrickproductions  2 роки тому +2

      Asking Tommy, it's apparently a K13A5 (a 3 chime K-horn with the bells #1, #3A, and #5).

      @@freebrickproductions Do you know how often 8539 runs? Because I’m moving to Georgia this up coming spring and may wanna catch it running. You don’t have to meet me when I move but your invited too, I’m always willing to put differences away to make more positive memories

      @@coltconnorproductions1016 Well it and 8560 are typically paired together these days, and that tends to be the power for the trains the HMCR runs. However, the HMCR's current crew has day jobs, and as such, they currently typically only run at night, though when they've got work on the weekends they'll run during the day.

    What horn is on hmcr 8539

    • @freebrickproductions
      @freebrickproductions  Рік тому

      At the time of this video, it was a K13A5 horn (seemingly a K5 of some kind, I'm guessing a K5LA, but missing two notes). It has since been replaced with an RS3K.
