- After buying a 1977 Pinto Cruising Wagon, I knew I had to reunite it with its big brother - the Ford Cruising Van! So, I enlisted Dave Shuten at Galpin Speed Shop, a division of Galpin Auto Sports, to join in the fun. Check it out!

Jonathan Schmidt Now need to take it on Jay Leno's garage
He's too much of a purest for Jay to rationalize the existence of.
Well, Jeff has already been on Jay's show with his Gremlins...
I actually had a lemon yellow Pinto station wagon. And what made it very special was it had a constant sent of gasoline. This made for adrenaline filled travel. I'm pleased to say things have changed and I now get my adrenaline from Hemi engines.
My first new car was a 75 Pinto brown with orange and yellow pin strips. I was 18 and in the air force. Loved that car and didn't burn.
It must be so nice to be able to afford to do things like that. Jeff has worked so hard and deserves this kind of happiness. Best wishes, Jeff!
I love that he restored two regular cars from his childhood and not some Ferrari or Lambo
Jeff eu penso que tu and em Trump ou Biden.
I remember hearing from the production staff that Jeff was the #1 Vegas performer of his time, maybe still is. You go J!
You have to respect a guy who chooses the cars to collect because they mean something to him rather than because it's what he's supposed to have in a celebrity car collection.
I dunno, a guy who plays with PUPPETS ???? :)))
@@gertraba4484 Let's see, a pretty easy job, and makes loads of money? I would be okay with that too.
I live in Colby, Kansas where Jeff found this. I work in an electronics shop and I'm about 95% sure I worked on the stereo system in this exact van about 20 or 25 years ago.
Hehe, that would be badass
Hope you didn't pull the 8-track out
LOL, the bucket of candy was a nice touch. Great restoration job.
It is so wonderful that you had the resources to be able to pull this off. Dave is absolutely awesome. Wonderful job. They are a great addition to your collection. I love them both van and Pinto. You the man.
Wow Jeff, what an awesome van. Thanks for sharing her with us. Dave did beautiful work on her and you did the entire world a favor by committing to restoring her to her former glory!
This is like a scavenger hunt and it looks amazing! I love Jeff’s friends. They’re the ideal people for his personality for some reason.
This is a bad ass video documenting a part of Jeff's life long desire! Dave is one hell of a builder and has one hell of a shop. There are a couple vehicles in the background I would love to see more of. Congrats Jeff on having 2 vehicles in your collection that were not only fun to find but fun to build!
@mrbratt69 I'm with you. There's a red something parked in the row by the wall seen over Jeff's left shoulder at about 18:40 in the video, that means nothing to my recollection but I'd sure like to know what it is.
Jeff needs to take that van to someone who can sort the underbody, road gear and motor. It doesn't sound bad but it needs "tarting" to go with the rest of the "shagwagon" look.
I get the feeling that Jeff's mother's anxieties about a 14 year old wanting a shagwagon were well founded.
Nice paint job Dave though it somehow went a little flat when you removed the blue layout tape. Maybe a blue pinstripe would pop the colours again. Just MHI though.
Regards from Canada's banana belt.
🤞❄️🇨🇦🍌🥋🇺🇦🕊️🇺🇲👍
Vision, craftsmanship, and professionalism. Excellent result.
This is a great restore, I love that they brought it back to original. I couldn’t help but smile through the whole video.
Best bumper sticker ever.
“Explodes on impact, another great idea by Ford”
Actually pretty good choices for a collection. Relatively inexpensive, yet iconic pieces of automotive history.
My mom's pinto had a licence plate frame that said "Hit me easy, I'm full of gas." Loved that car.
Santa Rosa decades ago, guy painted white yellow orange red flames from the back going forward, sign on the hatchback "close cover before striking". very custom, he's popped a little V6 in it, nice wheels etc.
That's awesome! That could mean so much besides what it implies about the Pinto itself........
@Carol Harris which is now more valuable than the pinto
Jeff is my hero. I remember seeing that ad back in 1976 or so and thinking it was so cool.
The black and grey ranchero in the back of the end of the video is gorgeous! These guy's work is so amazing!
This thing is beautiful! And your idea for the bubble window was genius. I had a Tonka van that looked a lot like this, thanks for saving it from the junk yard.
Just seeing this. Why can't the car shows on TV be like this? No drama...just, here's what we did and here's how it looks. Roll credits.
How can I UNDERSTAND how HARD this is if PEOPLE aren't SCREAMING AT EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME
Cause the drama attracts the normies
my dad had the classic VW van (bus) with curtains, and a bumper sticker that read, 'don't laugh, your daughter might be in here.'
Thanks man that gave me a good laugh after a bad day at work.
My cousin had a VW van. He called it his "shaggin wagon" and I remember searching it once to see if he was telling the truth. I found the proof: a bill for new shocks and new axles.
Had similar sticker (don't laugh, your mother might be in here).
My parents had a 1978 Black ford van. I remember helping my dad shag out the inside. It had a bed a tear drop windows in the back. When it was done we drove it on a vacation from New York to the Grand Canyon. I'll never forget it, thanks for the memories.
Mr. Dunham: I don't know what I like better. Your comedy or your car collection. Both are top notch.
That's cool that you have the matching set now. The van came out great. :)
Needs the obligatory stickers on the back or side windows "If this vans a rockin' don't bother knockin' " & "Don't laugh your daughter could be inside" Great work on the restoration and thanks for sharing... cheers from Australia 👍
glove box sticker "ass gas or grass, nobody rides for free".
I had the "Don't laugh your daughter could be inside" on the back of my cruising wagon. My girlfriend at the time was not impressed and neither were her parents. lol
Barry Atkins, how about 'Up In Smoke'?
These were rolling party wagons! After kicking my buddies to the curb, I was ready for a little "quiet time" with the lady...
"Help support wildlife.
Throw a party."
He seems so happy with the van. Just wait until one of his daughters wants borrow it for a weekend. That thing will up for sale on ebay so fast.
Ranchero, Brubaker Box, Cruising Wagon & C-Van. You have some of my favorites
Oh man...that's a piece of my childhood right there Jeff! I had the model kits of both of these when I was younger! These were my the epitome of 70s cool!
Now you have to add an 8 track player and a waterbed in the back.
...AND upgrade the suspension to "off road".
Out of this whole Cool as Heck vid Dave impressed me the most. He searched the World for a part could not find it and instead of giving up like most, HE MADE IT HIMSELF! This dude is Worth his wait in GOLD and he is a very BIG MAN!
I remember those! My best friend (still after 40+years)dated a guy who had one ! It was fun to Cruze around in and do things we should not have been doing 😂😂😂
WOW the paint work is a lotta lotta work and IS FABTASTIC the way he made the window was some awesome ingenuity ( the hood prop is the most important thing at any point of being under the hood ) the luggage rack is great new carpet was the right idea a spare tire cover is also a good idea will keep the UV from the sun from killing your spare FYI your pinto needs the cam cleaned out it is not oiling properly (rattle) the attention to detail on the van was superb if you live on the road out of a suitcase you should have something nice and a touch of nostalgia never hurts the other great things are no computer to go bad and emissions are able to be grandfathered but restoring something older is always an easter egg hunt thanks for sharing .
The bubble window for the van was total genius!! Love it! Nice work by all.😁👍
I enjoy watching these videos that show us the personal side of Jeff.
Jeff literally prolonged the life of the car some 50 years or something. Thats amazing. So much respect for a great restoration.
I like both of them individually. And even more together. That is so cool you recreated the cars from that old Ford add. Drop a 302 in that Pinto. Also get the red truck in the background.
Nice ford econoline jeff!! Havent seen one of those since 79' your guy did a beautifull job on the restoration ...."gotta love it!!"
That's Vantastic, Loved It.
Hey Jeff you should contact Ford and show them the ad and the vehicle's together. Bet they would love to see that
Ford probably knows about it, Galpin is the largest Ford dealership in the country.👍
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE make more videos like this! I love the format, the music, the content... everything!
I liked the parts where it shows Walter as a teenager!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Anabel Mask Not gonna lie, I was rollin' at that!
That's one amazing HOBBY here! I'm in LOVE with restoring good old things with lot's of meaning behind!
Thank you very kindly Mr D. You have betterd our lives!
It must be nice to be able to live your dreams. Your blessed and I'm happy you were able to purchase and restore this classic shag mobile.
That Bruebaker Box in the background is amazing.
Charles Craig yes!!!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed! I want to know about that asap
funny is I have a book on how to customize full size vans
I think I would change the gas tank in the Pinto to one of them plastic lined gas tanks just to be safe
Pinto Wagon is a slightly different chassis than the Pinto Coupe, Bobcat coupe or Mustang II. If any of those are in a rear-end collision, if/when the top of the tank ruptures, the occupants of the vehicle get covered in gasoline. One small spark turns the car into a barbecue. The Pinto Wagons actually have a full steel floor and don't suffer the same problems the Pinto coupe or Mustang II have and were never included in the Ford recall back in the day!
I wondered about that
you put in a fuel cell. plastic or metal when its behind rear axle you are asking for boom. hot engine rear ends you. things catch fire. better to use a fuel cell that has walls with cell in middle protected.
out of curiosity, what is that book called? wonder how much of it will apply to today's sort of "revival" with the growing popularity of people making tiny homes in vans and trailers
I'd hafta locate it but pretty sure it was printed during the height of Custom Vans
Jeff - Thanks for some wonderful 70's Memories
Great video. Fun. Had no idea how enjoyable it would be. Nicely produced. Couldn’t stop watching until very end.
Man I remember those vans. I think my first son may have started out in a van like that. Had to love the 70’s. Great video and thanks for keeping memories alive for us old folks.👍🏻👍🏻😁😁😉
The work done on this car is so awesome !! Really well done !
So cool! I designed and built conversion vans in Ocala Florida from 1984 until 1987 for a little company called Camelot conversions!
Shepperd November Camelot and Mark III conversions I remember both of them well!
I'm in Ocala, and if I had the money, you could restore my van.
Copper Bear Thanx . I was shop foreman.
my grandfather used to have a conversion van, was a much later one, a '98 Econoline halfback if i remember right. the company is still kicking around these days, albeit just reselling vehicles, I don't think they've done anything yet with the new Ram Promaster and Ford Transit vans yet
Tom Van Alst No , I don't remember that van converters name but they were in the Orlando area.
Freaking amazing! Love the transformation. That’s amazing talent....and patients!
Beautiful. This is now one of my fav vids on you tube.
Galpin does such great work. Made that van look awesome.
"It's a crusin' van!! That's why there's underwear in it. It's a shaggin' wagon!"" Lol Hilarious
Really a bat mobile?! That's so cool, imagine driving that in the street! Lol!
phantomgirl598 bet he dresses like Batman. 😂
That brings back memories, Outstanding job. Talent and hard work was paid off for Jeff, well deserving man.
Epic seventies vehicles ! I remember the Pinto wagons with the bubble windows ! My pops had a copper colored Pinto hatchback that he used as a commuter. Great job on the van restoration !
What a great video ,going down memory lane!! The car n van looked so good!! Glad u shared this with video with your fans!! I really do enjoy all your videos Mr. Dunham!! Keep'em coming!!
I remember both vehicles on the roads. My mom painted her gremlin front fenders plaid. Ah the 70s. Thanks for the video
Awesome vehicles beautiful . Great work friendship. Inspiring. Thank You
My hat is off to Dave! This man is a wizard in restoration!👍🏻😎👌🏻😀
So cool! I'm partial to late 50s to early 60s Impalas and Bel-airs myself. My grandparents had a 1960 Impala convertible, it was white with a red and white interior. After we got married our first three cars were a tan 1964 Impala, a turquoise 1962 Impala, and a two tone turquoise and white 1962 Bel-air, all in the late 1970s. Man I wish we still had those cars!
Jeff better hope he's paying Dave well enough not just for the quality work but the crap he goes through with these vehicles. The underwear was priceless!
I've never been a van guy, but that being said that is one freakin sweet ride. You really do have an awesome collection of cars, thanks for sharing them with us.
I had no idea jeff Dunham was a car enthusiast!! So awesome!
Just love the way you opted to do it in the brochure paint scheme :)
I was waiting for the original A-Team to pop out of the van!
"What Was I THINKING?" I like that you even ask that question. It's like you don't know yourself at all :D ..but i have to agree with you on this one. That van is AWESOME!
Amazing professional people wow wow wow. Men I love skilled and talented people.
I like the way you decide which vehicle to buy, then to recreate an add is amazing. Good job Jeff.
Dave had some *GREAT* lines!
Cracked me up. He needs to be a regular on all of your car videos.
I remember both the van and the Pacer. Someone that lived near me growing up had one I’d see it often drive by. I’m 53 years old. I remember the van craze. Slightly before me getting my license.
A friend of mine had the Pinto. I remember Steve Miller's Jungle Love coming from the Jensen stereo.
He hit the jackpot With this 1 please keep up the great work and love the puppets jalapeno on a stick love it can't wait to see more.
Hello from a Scottish fan. Dave did an incredible job, the van is brilliant. You have an amazing vehicle collection Jeff.
Walter Wagon!!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! A younger Walter smokin' dope in his van and getting some action (the fro & the black chest hair was a nice touch) is just HILARIOUS!!!!!
Dave is a beast. Great job!
The perfect puppet hauling machine.
Also that 77 Pinto wagon looks like it came straight out of a 70's movie!
sounds like it needs an overhaul/rebuild tho (go small V6 instead!)
I'd do a 289 in that thing.........go big or go home.
PaganWizard I'd do a turbo.....svo mustang swap......v8 is great too
I had a friend who put a 302 in the sawed-off regular Pinto. Fast, the fastest death trap in the neighborhood.
You ought to trailer the pinto behind the van
You should definitely tow the pinto with the van but you should get a car trailer and match it to the pinto and the van
Yes that would make a nice picture, the van towing the pinto. I had a 76 pinto wagon with a v-6 & auto. Good transportation.
i have big respect for people that part with the cash,to restore these gems of history. i think it is vary important to save old stuff for future generations to admire. pictures are nice ,but there's nothing like the real thing. the world thanks you guys. incredible job.
I love quirky projects like this. Nice job!
Damn your car guy is a Genius .You are soooo lucky to have a guy like that working on you cars ...
Man this was so good i watched the entire thing killer paintjob
Your cars are amazing and wierd. The best combonation😂
Jeff , that Dave is one dedicated artist in his field , he did a fantastic job of your shaggin wagon.
Dave is AMAZING. A genius
The '70s were before my time, but I've seen some movies and cartoons where these kinds of vans are popular. It looked like quite a task, for the whole van to basically be rebuilt from the ground up. Congrats, Jeff - you seem pretty happy with it.
Scooby Doo!
I spot a Coinbase tab open at 3:12. What you trading?
Lol, can we get a video (or reenactment) of Jeff asking his house keeper to wash that pair of under wear?
:)
I have just found your channel, I am loving your passion for cars and even better unique quirky cars, bravo that man
Wow great work on the van I saw a couple other gems in the back ground awesome video sir Jeff thanks for sharing
Time for a mechanical restoration on that poor pinto! lol Get it running as nice as the two of them look, Good job Jeff!
They'd be better off pulling out that 4-banger and finding a little Cologne V6 for it.... or even better, full conversion to a 302 V8. The carb'd Inline four is a ridiculous motor - especially when teamed with an automatic. I think they were rated at 90 horsepower (and I believe that's gross hp). Interestingly enough, the Cologne V6 was very popular in Europe and there are plenty of (expensive) speed parts for it including a single plane -barrel intake, headers and lots of performance cams! That would be the cool way to go about it, but dropping in a 302 would be the best bang for the buck. Put a 9-inch in the rear, change the front springs, put in a beefy sway bar and go to town.
How about boosting it like an SVO Mustang?
Alfred yes, but I'd stop at the little V6, the 302 kinda too heavy requiring a lot more work, heavier springs, power steering etc.
Can't wait to see you!!! How about recreating the ad with the 'boys'?? LOL
Thanks for sharing Jeff, this was fun. I remember right where one of those Pintos lived nearby where I grew up. Never liked the Ford van shape compared to the Chevy and Dodge but by now, this all is just cool!
Pimp my ride, Jeff Dunham edition! Cool!!!
WoW! That thing looks awesome, & sounds MONSTER!
I was married to a bodyman, for 36yrs, so I appreciate the work & artistry that went into this.
You are so funny! Love the confidence
That's Walters Jock from when he played basketball in high school
youre wife is going to love riding that van. :-) I hope you want more kids :-)))
Jeff thank you for taking the time, money and effort to respectfully restore a piece of History for all of us to enjoy,
I'm jealous in a good way.
Thank you for keeping such an integral part of American Life alive!
