I may need to look for more heat tolerant varieties for the future if our future summers are going to look like the one we are having this year. I've had shade cloth over the lettuces for the past few days but will probably take it off tomorrow when we get back down to the 80s.

Yeah, it's crazy. We had an unseasonably cool May, even had a frost on the 19th (weird) and now excessively hot June. You just never know

I know this video is older, but I just came across it, I live in tropical South Florida and I am struggling to grow lettuce even here in November because it has been in the high 80s. I just bought three packs of your slow bolt lettuce and I can’t wait to try it out! My husband eats salads every day, so I am really trying to find a sustainable option for us. So far, I am trying salad bowl, little gem, black seeded Simpson, and new red fire. Hoping the slow bolt lettuce works well for us!

I am in zone 7b and our summers are very hot. The lettuce does eventually succumb to the heat but if you pick the leaves off regularly and don't let it get too large it does very well

How did the lettuce do? I’m also in South Florida and curious how they held up

Looking at getting some slobolt lettuce, we are just now planting in May in Henderson Nevada, and I just planted my Tomatoes, Corn, Cucumbers and now Lettuce, any advice?

If you're just now planting lettuce, even the slo bolt probably won't tolerate the heat. You'll have to shade it heavily

We still have a little of that slo bolt lettuce from your store growing in a shady area. Temps here in N E Tex have been below average.

Weird that the whole west coast is in a major heat wave. Something pushed your weather east. Thanks a lot! LOL 😜

I recently received my order of your SloBolt Lettuce seeds, thank you! I am in 8b (Central TX) and am wondering if it's too late to try growing this variety? Should I wait for Sept/Oct., instead?

You could start some and pick them very young if it gets too hot. But you surely will have better luck in the fall.

… I’m just wondering if the lettuce that is starting to bolt and is getting bitter, would it make a good substitute for cooked greens ? … 🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybe if you like cooked greens. Or leave them to go to seed. :-)

Hot summer, it's good to grow watermelons, bitter gourds, malabar spinach, Chinese chives, .... Heat lover crops.
