I was lucky enough as a teen to witness big waves at every spot listed here. I lived on the island in the 90s and took up surfing. Was I surfing them big waves? fuck no. When it got big it was just fun to just watch. Anyways the one memory that has stuck with me the most was watching Waimea shorebreak at 20+ ft(Hawaiian style) just unloading on the shore. You literally can feel the impact of the waves through the ground. Can you imagine having all these breaks around you for almost 10 years and then have to move back to the mainland. That shit hurt :(

Shorebreak footage is psycho! The control on that last drop is next level, most people wouldn't have made the first part let alone the bounce to bottom turn, super critical.

I’ve fractured my L5-S1 3 times, we only scored reefs and heavy shores. My days are over, but the moments I will cherish forever.. Jeff takes me back there.🤙

Beastmode. I bodyboarded, 90-93, then picked up surfing 98-present. Great thing about BB you can drop vertically, super late takeoff and ride shorebreaks unlike surfboarding, unless you want to break your neck.
