Drummers are so underrated, its annoying that most of the attention goes towards the singers and guitarist. I appreciate the complexity of playing guitar and singing but drummers seem to be completely underrated
I appreciate his drumming because of how well his drums flow. he doesn't throw all this badass shit in there. everything flows into each other so well.
Sorry to say, but Kellin programs all the drums himself when he writes the music, I'm pretty sure Jake doesn't do any to very little of the writing parts
Some drummers use the second base drum as an anchor point for their hi-hat pedal. They kinda strap their stand to it so they can have its legs closed therefore being able to bring it closer to the rest of the kit. Plus, it looks awesome. But yeah, lots of drummers still two bass drums, mostly in the more metal scene. Not so much in the core scene
That makes no sence. If they would not use a second kick, they could the hi-hat place wherever they want! ;-) I own a two kick set and a one kick set. If i play the two kicks, i attach the hi-hat stand with closed legs to my kickdrum. But when i am using only one kick. I place the hi-hat where it feels good. Two kicks on stage, and olny one i use. is only for show. Fact!
I know Matt Greiner uses the extra bass drum to attach his hi-hat stand, but heck yeah, it's mostly for the show and drum companies like it that way too
***** Yesno... it's only for show. I love to play with two bass drums, but mostly i use one for economic reason. I think the drummer, or the band/manager beliefs that one kick is not metal enough. I personly have no issue with one kick and play metal.
It's sad to see the comments on here about how simple there music is. Are you kidding me? These guys don't make shit for cash for how much time and effort they give to their music, show a little respect. I don't see you guys quitting your day job to do it. Besides, they are plenty complicated, way more than the average guitar player.
What songs? I'm not hating on MMF, they are one of the best bands in the rock "scene" in my opinion. Im just saying MMF isn't playing on the AAL or Periphery level :)
Not very many drummers with that heal toe shit that throws me off sometimes but this guy is pretty damn good throwing those random drum fiils in with that fast snair lick
@BradyStephenK I do realize that, and you could be right. By no means am I any sort of guru, but another point that I was trying to make is that they've constructed difficulties for themselves by putting a religious tinge to their company's name.
You'd think, being apart of Memphis May Fire, and touring the world, and being endorsed by numerous companies, and selling a bunch of records...You'd think he could afford a decent pair of in-ears.
Anyone else notice that the guitar cabs are not even loaded with speakers? haha i guess if they're going through the hosue system it would make sense, but still haha
You lost me? I didn't actually see any support there? Truth are expanding extremely fast and I really don't think they should be underestimated. They make some of the nicest looking/sounding drums on the market right now. they cater to musican's needs with full customization in an age where being different is everything. . They also endorse many musicians of this generation of music and thus have more fans supporting them. Someday Truth may even still be around while DW is long gone. .
They obviously have less fans supporting them because, as of right now, they're simply lesser known than DW, Pearl, Tama, Mapex, etc. If you have the money to spend on it, you can have the same level of customization with Pearl as with Truth. Pearl just has nicer drums, so they cost more. All I'll say about the endorsements is that there is a very good reason why living legends like George Kollias, Derek Roddy, Mike Mangini, and Neil Peart don't endorse Truth drums.
The problem with MMF is they don't push anything instrumentally. I think the reason for that is because Kellin writes everything, instead of them all working together. Don't get me wrong, I love MMF. But Jake is far far faaaaaaaaaar from being a top drummer in the genre.
Well look at the band Broadway, he writes the tracks on that and they are pretty good and a bit more technical it seems like than this. And they do push instrumentally all the time, they have the same sound but it doesn't mean what they are doing isn't harder or more technical or more groovy or something they are not used too. If you go through the drum tracks from sleepwalking to the singles being released now you will notice the drum tracks just getting harder and harder, same with guitar and bass.
Matthew Hernandez I am a drummer, have been for over a decade. Triplet kicks and the odd signature switch is not hard. Jake stays 4/4 almost all the time. The actual hard covers in metal I've found come from bands like ABR, TOTA, and Northlane.
Drummers are so underrated, its annoying that most of the attention goes towards the singers and guitarist. I appreciate the complexity of playing guitar and singing but drummers seem to be completely underrated
+callum carter that is why i enjoy being a drummer
Me too, drumming is in my blood, i just wish more people saw the talent and skill behind drumming
Nigga please the bassists
John myung.
+Titan Thief23 bass doesnt take even close to as much skill as drums,
His bass work is insane.
Jake is so amazing!! I love him
his truth kit sounds beautiful 😍
Love the sound of his bass drum!
Let's see your video of you playing it then?
+Zach B what?
It's like he replied to a completely different comment lol!
been to so many good shows and this bands sound is always phenomenal.
Bass drum patterns are so groovy. Definitely the BACKBONE of MMF!
It’s no surprise that when Jake joined the band MMF got way better there self titled isn’t that good but the sinner and challenger are fire
i saw this video at least ten times. Jake, the best
Very solid metalcore drummer. Lots of cool parts.
He sneaks the ride in so quick dude I love it
Yeah im gonna need a video like this for every drummer.
Jake has improved a lot since this video. I saw MMF in March on Unconditional tour, and it was great.
The double kick skills... off the charts!! \m/ Keep rockin' man!
I appreciate his drumming because of how well his drums flow. he doesn't throw all this badass shit in there. everything flows into each other so well.
one of the best in his genre all day. Fucking dope jakeee!
Man this was THE era for drum cams, such a time
love Memphis may fire
Great band and great drummer!
Jake Garland is great!
I like the way his drums sound!
This right here, this is fucking amazing!
Dude this is sick
Damn awesome
so talented
Beast!
Oh shit 1:19 is doubles on the snare! Did not realize that till now!
lefevredrummer i can do that, although im not as good as he did lol
Fajar Maulana Firdaus I never said it was hard to do. I was just surprised it was doubles lol.
Love the kick sound. Would also love to have that china and the thunder crash on my setup.
I dig the way his kit sounds
Jake Garland brings so much creativity to metalcore drumming, as opposed to most other drummers in this scene doing the same thing.
Sorry to say, but Kellin programs all the drums himself when he writes the music, I'm pretty sure Jake doesn't do any to very little of the writing parts
But he is literally my favorite drummer of all time. Go check out the band Broadway, he created that band before he joined Memphis May Fire
Of course! I'd hope someone wouldn't write something he couldn't play
*cough* *cough* Matt Greiner
I got lessons from this dude!!!! :)
Dude you're just the solidest drummer out there
these guys are so solid live it's awesome as fuck. MMF.
that ride :o
that snare is fucking sexy
I ended up seeing them that next day in Salt Lake city
Damn
Very nice :)
Jezebel off of Challenger
Matty's soft clean vocals kinda make me forget sometimes that Jake is laying down some very heavy and hardcore drums behind that kit.
OtherGandhi what song is this?
The only reason why they had a small crowd in vegas is cause it was 117 fucking degrees outside that shit was fucking hot!
Does anyone know the pitches of Jake's Toms? I've been trying to tune mine to his but I cant figure out the correct tone.
that kit is fucking sweeeeeeeet
Jezebel.
The song is called Jezebel.
Hell yeah. It's really good like, I couldn't hear Matty saying that but yeah this song's unreal
Two kickdrums and he is using them both? Unusual! Most drummers today play with double pedal and the second kick is only a dummy.
I like!
Some drummers use the second base drum as an anchor point for their hi-hat pedal. rockdahaus it all depends on the drummer. The Rev had 3 bass drums and only used 2. Its usually a matter of style, comfort, and sound.
*****
Yesno... it's only for show. I love to play with two bass drums, but mostly i use one for economic reason. I think the drummer, or the band/manager beliefs that one kick is not metal enough. I personly have no issue with one kick and play metal.
damn he's tight as fuck
Who the fuck plays drums in warped tour heat in a fucking denim jacket?!?!
Jake fucking garland that's who xD
Still sad that the drums on challengers are poorly mixed
agreed
still sounds sick
Engineers for some reason don’t tend to like this things that drums used to do back in the day, which is called resonating.

It's true, i have trouble playing some of their songs on bass because of their crazt time signatures and fast sweeps.
GratisZebs Its 4/4...
Joey Lee You don't even now what songs im talking about.
What songs? I'm not hating on MMF, they are one of the best bands in the rock "scene" in my opinion. Im just saying MMF isn't playing on the AAL or Periphery level :)
name of song - Jezebel
Up until recently he's just had his clicks in his headphones. So he didn't need anything too fancy!
Not very many drummers with that heal toe shit that throws me off sometimes but this guy is pretty damn good throwing those random drum fiils in with that fast snair lick
i've been watching this at least 10 times but sadly i still do not know the original song of this drum cover.. anyone knows?
Jezebel
THAT 808 at 1:29 ish!!
what song is that ? :)
Marko Čorak jezebel
How do you record these videos
What song is this? The drumming is tight as fuck!
@BradyStephenK I do realize that, and you could be right. By no means am I any sort of guru, but another point that I was trying to make is that they've constructed difficulties for themselves by putting a religious tinge to their company's name.
Does anyone know what song Jake was playing??????
dude you guys that wernt there at warped in vegas.. you have no idea how hot it was it was 117 degrees it was soo god dam fucking hot
some reason drummers make the funniest faces when they are playing, because for one thing i know i make those funny faces as well
Most guitarists do the same thing when we solo. Watch Mark Tremonti play a solo and witness some of the best faces. The heat of the moment i guess
Or even bassist, look at Este Haim
This is the what drums sound like when a guitarist writes them.
OH MY GOD.... 1:19 double snare.....
watched this video for more than 10, still cant figure out what is the title of the song xD
If you listen with headphones you can hear him Matty say it in the beginning
Luke Holland filming... cool.
You'd think, being apart of Memphis May Fire, and touring the world, and being endorsed by numerous companies, and selling a bunch of records...You'd think he could afford a decent pair of in-ears.
y se compre unos inears de verdad
Anyone else notice that the guitar cabs are not even loaded with speakers? haha i guess if they're going through the hosue system it would make sense, but still haha
Jason Ritter is dope on the drums
jezebel

Yo what track is this tho, forgive me idk MMF.

Jezebel
what's song is this??
jezebel
song?
was i the only one that assumed he was playing a double bass pedal but than was proven wrong at the end when you saw the second bass drum?
If he has a second kick drum, its just for show. He definitely uses a double pedal!
Jeff .B look at 1:32 and you'll see the he play on the two bass drums.
yes he uses both bass drums he no longer uses a double pedal he uses 2 singles
This is pure filth, what a set.
The problem with MMF is they don't push anything instrumentally. I think the reason for that is because Kellin writes everything, instead of them all working together. Don't get me wrong, I love MMF. But Jake is far far faaaaaaaaaar from being a top drummer in the genre.
do you mean matty? kellin is the singer in sleeping with sirens...
james farmer kellin is the guitar player for MMF! He writes the majority of the bands instrumentals!
Jarren Harper you mean kellen? yeah i heard that before but didnt really want to believe it because mmf are one of my favourite bands hahaha
Well look at the band Broadway, he writes the tracks on that and they are pretty good and a bit more technical it seems like than this. What are you talking about?
