Testing the Helm Compact 1 in some Challenging Conditions & Cooking a Curry on the Trangia Stove

- In todays adventure we head to our local fells for a wild camp. Once again the weather reports were for clear skies, light winds and little rain, so our thoughts were for a quiet wild camp on the summit with some photography thrown in.
How wrong were we, the winds were brutal and once the rain started it never stopped, the cloud also descended leaving us with zero visibility. Once at the camp location and the Helm Compact 1 was set up we were tent bound for the rest of the night, however I did manage to cook a nice curry on the Trangia Stove in the tent.
During the night the tent was punished with some challenging winds and rain but the Helm Compact 1 stood up to the challenge and took the conditions in its stride. The morning brought little change to the weather so a quick coffee and porridge knocked up on the Trangia was in order before breaking camp and heading for home.
I can't explain how happy I was on how the tent coped with the conditions throughout the night, it's only the second time I've used this tent and it has given me some confidence in taking it out in these conditions again.

Cheers Garry, it certainly was a tough camp, fun all the same. Thanks very much for watching mate, appreciated it 👍
Cracking video phil and love the tent ⛺ 👍....food amazing ....no point checking the weather if Tony's out its rain , rain , and horrendous rain ...cheers and all the best mate 👍 👌

Haha cheers Mark, went a different way up this time to mix things up, ruby was excellent 👌 Thanks for watching bud ATB
Might have been a wet one but at least you know your tent can hack it and you got to achieve staying there this time round. Good old trangia, never fails to rustle up a tea. I use microwave rice and add a couple teaspoons of water and comes out nice in the pan. Tony's ringtone should be crowded house.. "everywhere you go, noble brings the weather with you"
Haha love it Phil, spot on 👍 I was really impressed with the tents performance, gives you some confidence. The Trangia is great for cooking on, likes a bit of a change every now and then. Thanks for watching Phil, appreciate it 👍
Another great video Phi, I took your previous advice and purchased the Helm 1, not tested it yet. May will be the maid voyage.👍🤞
Nice one Andy, don’t think you’ll be disappointed, good luck and thanks for watching 👍
It was a wet camp and confined to the tent, but you pulled it out of the hat with that curry! Great photos Phil, love the one of Tony. Thanks for making the video mate 👍
Nice one Joe, ye it’s never good being tent bound all night but you gotta take the rough with the smooth, curry was nice too 👍 Thanks for watching mate
Nice one mate...although I could have waited a week or two before reliving the horror..🤪🤪 the curry made up for it though 👍👍 - sunshine and stars next time...promise...ish! Quality as ever - T🙂
Haha, cheers Tony. Some how I don’t believe you 🤔🤔🤔
Nice one Phil love your vids great to see you back out.
I have the helm 1 love it !
I have not done a wet camp.
what is the best way to sort yourself out once your pitched the tent.
As I’m worried I will soak the inside ?
Cheers Graham
Hi Graham, thanks for watching mate. I normally get everything set up then get all my wet clothes off and put my dry ones on. The wet stuff goes into the dry bag my drys were in. If I’m wearing something the day after (normally pants) I hang them up to dry off overnight. It’s worked for me, I have down pants and down booties which I keep with my sleeping bag in another dry bag, these keep me warm in the tent 👍

@@grahamscothern4319 No problem Graham, happy to help 👍
Aye just up the hill from me that. At Chipping turn down hill.
Nice one Mark, that’s a lovely area mate 👍
Leave that rain at home next weekend pal😂
Haha, you’ll be lucky Ben, Tony’s coming 😂👍
I have purchased the Helm 1 compact and need to get out with it, doesn't look too cramped if hunkered down? Great video
Hi Damon, it’s a great little tent. The good thing about it is putting all your stuff you don’t need in the back, bag, boots etc leaves you with loads of space up front 👍 Thanks for watching ATB
