I’ve run mostly German ships since I started playing four years ago, and I generally love them. But it led me to make GK my first legendary ship, and to say I was disappointed is putting it mildly.
My issue is that Legendary gameplay is nothing but a potato money sink camp/torpedo fest that's overrun with people who don't have the brain cells to recognize the massive financial burden those ships are to play, which leads to garbage gameplay. Same for tier 8 tbh to a slightly lesser degree. I don't even play those tiers for the steel reward. Steel isn't worth my sanity
Could not agree more Shockwave. I can almost guarantee at least on of the Shimas will be dead in 2 minutes, leaving one team automatically gutted of spotting, cap control, and limiting flank pushes
I'd be curious to see what GKs stats look like over time, and within the last few updates. That high performance stat from WG could be skewed if the data being referenced is across the lifetime of GKs existence as a ship in Legends. She was a solid choice at LT when her peers were fewer and had distinct play styles. I also find it hard to justify any ship in the game (over powered or under performing) not being in need of a tweak or change every now and then. The roster changes every update, the player base gains new users who play differently, shell types (SAP) get added, and more as the game evolves. An easy adjustment for GK would be redistributing more hit points out of her superstructure and into her hull, but that's my personal opinion. Appreciate the consistent and informative vids! Keep on keeping on.
I would love to look through them as well. I feel like that's spot on, she used to feel a lot more powerful. It's almost terrifying to load into a match in this thing with a Colbert, Zao, or a serious HE spammer. It's just a giant target 😔
This definitely feels like the most logical. Or that people who still play the GK probably got it a long time ago when it was good, so they’re decent players. I started during the Pommern campaign and never even thought of getting GK due to how often I bully it
I like the Superstructure/Hull idea....however it's concealment needs to be address because it's easy to spot and stay spotted to be picked on. As for Wargaming data regarding the Kurfurst, I'd like to know what methodology they're using to gather data, what parameters/metrics are being used to evaluate the ship's performance and the frequency of which they gather their data in the first place. Of course I don't suspect they can be that transparent, it's not a company that thrives on positive business practices regarding their customers and the methods they embrace to provide products and meet customer demands. What we do know is that whatever they say or claim must be subject to a higher level of skepticism due to their questionable behaviors. That redistribution you referenced is a productive starting point.
This is a great video - love all the stats, as usual. Here's where I go on my usual Wargaming rant in that this isn't a very good implementation of what it supposedly is: the ultimate design iteration of German battleships. By the time 1944 came around, the H-class battleship design (originally supposed to be the follow-on to the Bismarcks, represented in-game by the Friedrich der Grosse, but obviously never built) had gone completely off the rails with a 130,000-ton super ship. Yamato, by comparison, was "only" 71,000 tons, and by far the largest battleship ever built. These fantasy German battleship designs never looked anything like GK, though. Instead, they focused on larger guns (21" guns on the 1944 design), not more guns (still only in four twin turrets, like Bismarck and FdG). Think of how interesting the GK would be if it was basically the Ohio -- eight 18" guns (the 1942-43 design iteration had 18.9" guns) with decent accuracy, extended (German) secondary range, and really good armor for a legendary battleship. That's what the GK basically should be.
It probably isn't underperforming on paper because most people don't try to brawl with it and instead run accuracy builds with it. It lacks the survivability to be a brawler and unlike most brawling ships which tend to suffer when you force them into that role, the GK does alright at it just due to the amount of firepower it has. Unfortunately most people don't seem interested in brawling and WG seems to have a personal vendetta against brawling ships with their reduced EXP payout and the secondaries almost always being the first thing that gets nerfed on a strong brawling ship.
I Run Henry J Hide with accuracy and secondary skills with Haruna and hipper as my inspirations. The ship feels like it's the worst in so many aspects (AA, turning, concealment, superstructure) they really need to buff the health take down the superstructure farm and buff the secondary base range would be my way of making it better.
The thing with GK is, it's a different playstyle than Montana, Ohio and the likes. GK is a tank that grinds enemies down while they have trouble standing up against its firepower from main guns & secondaries combined. The push itself and it's timing are crucial to generate 1v1 situations to kill the enemy. Another thing is when built into secondaries with 11-12km, a GK pushing slowly into multiple ships firing left and right will force these ships to move and relocate, opening them up for broadside fire or shots from teammates. GK is a tank, a grinder and also a sponge. Tanking damage, making shells bounce and shatter on the strong armor is a huge service for the team and bringing 100k health to the fight keeps the enemy busy for a long time until it can get taken out. It's no sniper like Montana or Yamato, nor firesetter like Conqueror. I build mine into secondary range (11-12km), main battery reload (around 25sec), 5 heals with Cilliax and grind the reds down while slowly pushing closer and closer. And most people don't seem to know about the superstructure. They just shatter on it's immense bow armor. I still would welcome some buff because as you said, other ships have power crept the GK a little bit.
There seems to be a 50/50 split of people who play this thing as a sniper and those that use secondaries. Personally if I want to play a sniper Id take Yamato, or Montana over GK.
@@DerkaGames Yeah same here. I think GK can indeed snipe with the proper accuracy build. And that's kinda fun too. But I agree with you, Monty and Yamato are just the better snipers and I rather go for infighting.
I was a GK fan for so long because when she first came out, she was truly the only real secondary BB besides Bismark, but now with Shleifen, the Italian line, and Columbo, she is just obsolete. Like, maybe this makes her too OP, but She should get 100-105k base hp, increase the gun range a bit, give her a slightly better sigma, increase the sonar duration to 90 seconds, and if she had better accuracy (Maybe Monty) Anything better than she has, I would be happy. Shleifen beats her out in secondary damage, hits, fires, range, and fire rate, and Columbo is just better in general. Thoughts?
(GK rant) Man, I’ve put 4995 Games on GK, unofficial DR holder too, it’s my favorite ship, self proclaimed GK King. I’ve been crying for this ship for a while… I think it needs: longer Hydro 180s? Buff the DC to 15s instead of the 7s it has, and if they are being generous buff SB range to 7.5-7.8km base. Not so much to overthrow Schlieffen but to keep it relevant. Note could use a reallocation or HP to components like Maine got. However the absolute must buffs imo would be Hydro, AA, and DCP. It just struggles and unfortunately I only pull it out when in a division.
@@DerkaGames apologies didn’t see this comment. 473,017 & 8 Kills, they only take accept an SS of the game you drop it, not In the ships stat page unfortunately.
As a German BB main who loves my GK i run Hyde with Hipper and Hernandez on every single German BB from T6 up. I do not have any major issues with GK in specific however a buff to a couple different things would be welcome.
Great video as always, i'm really sad to see GK like that, still one of my most played ships, was way funnier than Yamato back in the days, but oh dear has it fell from grace, might be one of the most requested ship to get a buff ever, just simple tweaks would do the trick, half hp for the superstructure, better reload and range on the secondaries and slight hp buff and we're good to go, but i'm pretty sure we'll get the PC treatment "we can't buff cuz why not so here is the same ship with better angles and 457mm guns" I'm disapointed really, Bourgogne was the first to make me leave my GK in port, Schliefen was the confirmation, Colombo the killing blow, Ohio gets the last piece that made GK "better" in at least one area Justice for one of the 3 OG LT ship Why is GK not bad in the spreadsheets ? Simple, hard to kill and the only players who use it in 2023 knows how to play, same with Gascogne or Monarch for exemple, 3 guys doing 2k every games looks better to them than 7 guys with 3k and 14 others at 1k
The bit about Bourgogne, then Schlieffen, then Colombo, then Ohio is spot on!!! They all took away from GK in their own way. Leaving GK, feeling sooo obsolete
i feel like if they kept the secondary guns the same as on PC it would be abit more playable, i remember in a mighty jingles video he commented on them reaching out to 13.7km. i believe that alone would make the ship alot more competitive.
I personally have had the GK for well over 2 years now. My very best game was in GK @ 286,754K Damage 4 kills, 4127BXp. I'm consistently at or over 180k damage per battle. Perhaps I'm one of the few who learned how to be decent players in the GK, or perhaps the player base just doesn't know how to play her, but she is definitely not as powerful at LT now compared to when i got her. The fact that she's so long with that 1k Meter turning circle makes her very situational, not to mention the amount of HE spammers exist Take HP from her superstructure and allocate it to the hull, Increase the base range of the secondary's, and give her a slightly better rudder shift or a longer hydro and she'll be better off
Oh btw, i Go with a Full Accuracy/Guns build with Von Hipper, less than 27 second reload on the main guns, plus 8.6km SB at least makes her a long range sniper where you can pick and choose your shots more
Hyde commamder (hipper +cunningham) -brawler -porcupine/alidad -marksmanship -master mechanic -running with scissors Try to kill HE spammers first, push in when the time is right, generally avoid DD’s or bate them into your sonar range. Ps. 406mm guns are little bit better imo. Faster reload is needed for close brawls, especially when you will have to use the front guns.
I tried secondary and hybrid builds. I die all the time because of Shimas. Also, the ship is struggling to be at the center of attention because of massive superstructures. Maybe this sounds weird, but this ship on paper a good brawler - armor, sonar, secondaries, but my best games were with the full accuracy build. Guns perform well and can delete broadside battleships from any range when accurate enough. And at the right moment when main treats are eliminated, I’m using my armor, sonar, secondaries, and speed to push.
@DerkaGames The GK has been power crept into the SEA FLOOR. It suffers from what I call "The Brandenburg Complex". The ship is genuinely good. Strong guns, Huge HP pool, good Sonar, and good Secondaries. However, because of the turret Firing Angles, the ship has to basically turn Broadside to effectively use a full broadside of all guns. Brandenburg, Friedrich Der Große, Pommern, and GK, all are great ships, with some ships suffering further than others (Looking at you, FDG). The GK though... Is a whole another tier of pain. For a widely known and very popular ship, it shouldn't be a laughing stock. GK NEEDS buffs for better Turret Angles, all of the German Battleships I have mentioned do need them (again, looking at you FDG). Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, and I hope this shedded some insight as a German BB main with over 2,000+ battles in them.
I would choose the 406mm guns and a hybrid build with hide. Metajerk said GK has American dispersion and it really feels like that with an accuracy build. The sonar could last longer for sure and I wouldn't be mad if they reduced the spotting distance then.
Nice video man !! I play mainly German ships she was my first legendary and I love it it’s just a very hard ship to learn to play . Ik use both sec build and acr build , If ur pushing you need to rely on you team to help you spot torps and AA is indeed lower on dmg the range is fine tho , But she needs a buff big time , :HP she need much more makes no sense with her size and armor that other ships 1/3 smaller come even close ! : she needs better dispersion for secondary ‘s : heals need to get better no sense in her big ho pool to have weaker heals then other ships I think she has potential to be a very good tank ( she is already but not as good as she can be) but she got left behind with all the new ships …, a shame because she is also good looking 😁
People don't shoot at you because you're a CC. People shoot at you because you're a good player and you have to get the good players out of the match as soon as possible. 👍🙂👍
Thanks James that made me feel better haha, sometimes i take things the wrong way, and when the guy on the opposite side of the map is focusing me all match I take it....very poorly 🤣
Thanks for this one my man. Didn't even think about GK. I don't think I've used it in a standard match, but it has hit hard the few times I used it in ai. Gg🍻
She really needs three repair parties as base. Yeah she's big and has a lot of hp but fires and torpedoes don't care about your armor. There has been some power creep for sure.
This was my first legendary - because he was so cool... Then I got it, and he was so - meh. But still a cool monster. Like Godzilla - without Plasma Beam. Defintely needs a buff - like Siegfried.
Being a german Battleship main, I've always been drawn to the tankier boats with huge staying power. something that you can't just blink at and remove easily with a lucky shot. Having said that it is frustrating when your guns just kinda derp and leave you a floating brick with no real offensive power to throw around. So I run a Henry J hyde build affording accuracy as well as a bonus to my HP pool thanks to his passive and access to master mechanic with secondaries also included (sacrificing Alidad for porcupine) with Otto's AP buff and Von Hipper's further buff to secondary range it can be a very effective build able to rack up damage as well as stay alive for unreal amounts of time if played well
The numbers are off because more veteran players own this ship skewing to make the numbers look good. If newer players had this ship the numbers would be different.
NOT MY MIGHTY GK. It’s been under so much fire lately. Yes I agree GK needs a buff but, everyone run’s secondary and accuracy and call it bad. I usually run the same build as my Gneisenau. I just find it fun zooming around the map with a 35+ knot bb with 13 rudder that is the size of a country
And yeah it’s also very old so it has been power crept in every department. The legendary French bb with speed. Secondary’s from the Colombo and schliffen. Health from the Ohio. Guns by Yama and Ohio AA from Montana and torp protection from everything.
I also have a bit of a bias though because I it was my second legendary ship and I started it right at release of the GK and got it the day after the Alaska which was my first
@DerkaGames That is a good point you made about your win rate being attributed to taking so much attention from the reds allowing your team to possibly make game winning plays. The least they could do is reward a person for taking the attention of the whole red team by un-nerfing the XP from secondary battery damage.
I think secondary hits or damage should be rewarded more, you can't just slap a secondary build in and rush and have a good game it requires map awareness and timing to make those builds work and you do really destract the enemy team for your team to punish them but you don't get rewarded for surviving or making that game changing push
I would say that GK was already a bit iffy when its only competition were the Yamato and Conqueror. I certainly have not seen much used for it since the year it came out
Id suggest redistributing some HP from the superstructure to the hull. And some longer duration sonar. Ahh, the spreadsheet... Without knowing the intricacies of it (only some folks at WG would), I’m guessing it can be deceiving in a number of ways. (As can much of statistics since all variables can seldom be accounted for). I think you’re on to something with the pushes and that creating distraction. But if any potato, or any AFK player, can just put the ship at full speed and drop the controller - and the ship will perform at average (the average being pretty low…) - that doesn’t mean it’s a good ship or a ship for any player who wants to do something besides rushing in, dealing some damage and getting sunk early.
😅🤣 I'm just picturing a 55% win rate GK player that literally puts it in drive and leaves the room. I agree with you the superstructure is kind of outrageous, how much HP it holds....put some down into the cit. And yeah that 60s sonar is inferior to the battlecruiser sonar
I actually used again this week after a long time stop, for the windroses. The build to use actually got me thinking as SB on Schlieffen is just better, so why not work on the guns for something a little different. So i did, and after a few options i decided to go with Hyde, Essen and Cunningham. Yeah, its a sniper build, but it actually worked good enough with those extra pen angles and enough survivability of extra heals and FFwF. I did consider alternatives like von Hipper with Haruna and Henrique Fernandes or Megatron with JLP and von Hipper for something hybrid (capable of puting the 7 spotter planes to good use and be anti fire) but they didnt seem good enouth. By the way, an HP pool focused Yamato can have a higher HP value than a same focus GK, using AL Fuso.
I love the German BBs but this one it’s definitely a pain… it feels like a turtle compared to the other battleships. It would definitely be nice if it wasn’t so flammable with all the health in the SuperStructure and the secondaries feel lackluster for that ship it’s just really unpleasant to use and that was my first legendary ship now since Colombo came in to play that’s just amazing ship all around I have no problem staying alive in that. Unless I push too hard.
You are right... GK is a pain to play... she could use a buff for sure... she was my first legendary ship and now she is very rare going out on the sea...
GK was my first Legendary BB and I have over 300 games in it and the superstructure HP it takes is so depressing, but the GK does have an unexplainable charm to it, and distracting enemy fire for so long generally gives your teammates enough time to win the game for you 😂
Here’s the main problems •bad sonar duration •terrible secondary accuracy •terrible health retention, German battleships normally have 15 second damage control and 3 base heals while GK has only 2 heals and 8 second damage control
@@Germanbattleshipenjoyer german battleships are my most played ships, theorfore I am going to want to be critical of any illogical discrepancies that hinder those ships If I didnt like them and thought they were fine I wouldn't be saying the things I've said.
@@DerkaGames they do hit hard and I get that, but I have done testing and the standard accuracy type on secondaries in general is on average about 40% less hits on target than a ship that does have the better accuracy (I've mainly compared bismarck and zieten and zieten hit sooo much more secondary hits at the same range, with the same build towards the same stationary ship in training rooms) Me personally, I think secondaries should be primarily balanced around their damage output capability, range and accuracy and should be more logically and evenly distributed among tiers and ships, this would involve changing the secondary booster consumable instead to a 20% secondary reload booster, giving all ships a similar secondary accuracy type and THEN giving ships intended to more often use their secondaries that secondary reload booster
Can u please make a vid on either the Huyga, Benham, Ashitaka, Champagne or the Gascogne? I got the from crates and idk how good they are and how to use them
If you run full accuracy build and snipe whilst also having great positioning… you will do well. Being far out helps your superstructure not get farmed and you will have rail guns with of course high level commanders.
I play gk with 400mm gun and not 420mm and with full secondray build cilliax, haruna, hipper. On cilliax i use will to rebuild, and in the third slot the one that reduces firemaximum to 3 fires. I play the ship very agressive (like most of my battleships w secondary build). After tanking a lot of dmg the will to rebuild really helps.
As for the BB xp...GK was low but I this is partially due to poor seconadary xp. Also. OHIO on that list does not have a significant amount of games yet. It's Avg xp will increase I am certain
I think that the GK isn't that bad. I use a full sniper build, Hipper with Cunningham and Revel (exept in first slot, I use secondary mod for that), I run this build because you can't realy brawl because of the gravity of the ship that etracts shells. GK is good, but it's still not great.
GK is a mess at LT the guns feels so inconsistent like it is a 3k salvo or a 20k one, you feel like a rock because of how bad the handling is and the secondary guns feel lackluster at best compared to other secondary bb. they should either buff the guns, the secondaries or change how the hp is because the armor is useless if you can get farmed super fast form your superstructure. It only feels decent to use whenever their is a brawl event
With additions of ships like Ohio who've basically been untouched from their PC counterparts we here on Legends NEED all our LT ships to get back some of their PC stats. Having HP or Reloads cut down because our LT ships USED to match up against T7s is just ridiculous. How WG hasn't done a blanket patch on LT ship stat buffs is mindblowing if you ask me.
Ohio enters the game with all these things because weegee has sales figures to hit 😛 GK has been power crept, but that's not altogether bad; it was OPd originally, now it just requires a bit of nous to do well.
I love my GK it's an absolute beast if you run a sniper build with the big 16 inch guns and then start to push in gradually after a couple of minutes after sniping
CAM....I owe you a crate. please can you contact me privately in some way. Join Discord, or send me an email....something, anything derkagames@protonmail.com Discord would be easier
would be great if they increased the hp on it to about 120k. with the high dmg salvos other lt bbs can dish out a mere 100k in the superstructure gonna be gone in a flash
Tbh Schlieffen does perform better than GK in any way around due to mobility and secondaries, even better sonar. As a german bb main, GK require good teammates. It is safe to say, this ship is your typical punching bag.
And just when I was done typing away...I pull up this particular video and Derka got me wheels in me head a-turnin' This will be rather wordy....read this if and when you have time to take it all in otherwise ya may miss something.... Hey, don't give me the eye roll...you were prior warned before ya pressed on. So, a pressing on shall Moony a go-go... But First a little history...I joined this game in Oct/2020...My very first Bureau Projects that I completed in Jan/2021 was for the Yamato & Kurfurst simultaneously. I immediately enjoyed both ships and I still like the Kurfurst. However I think for today, it's best played in a Division or a Fleet situation in which one can benefit from competent teammates, because it does suffer from being ganged up on by the opposing team. They see 100,000 hit points and they want them....all of them. Now on to the elephant in the room.... Does Derka have a skill issue regarding the Kurfurst? probably...but I say that because all of us, me included, have skill issues. We are all as good as we think we are and less good than our egos will FULLY allow us to admit in a public place, but I digress. I'd wager there are many highly skilled players out there that can get a lot more out of the Kurfurst and do very well in a match; there always is a player like that out there in any game of any kind, and it could be that the Kurfurst is at a place where some high skills of varying kinds, may...may now be required because the game has grown over the last 3 years... And just the same, that may not be the case. But it does draw attention and it does become a beloved bullseye. As for Wargaming's claims that the Kurfurst is meeting productive expectations, as mentioned in this video by our resident Walter Kronkite, Derka, 😜 here's the thing about claims.... One, ya have to know what methodology the claimant is using. Two, ya have to know the claimant's evaluation parameters regarding Great, Good, Average, and Poor. Three, Ya have to be able to see their data, along with how often the frequency of that data is collected and analyzed. Wargaming, to my knowledge, doesn't provide that level of information, therefore a generalized statement of "it's doing fine" is a safe/unsupported claim. Safe because Wargaming claiming the opposite would encourage a lot of reactionary dialogue that they don't want, along with responsive dialogue which they wouldn't really welcome either...so better to say all is well of the Western Front until an update with a buff is revealed without prior warning. Yes, I have been watching Wargaming's behavior very carefully for a long time. One can learn a lot about their specific business culture and their practiced mission statement in those public announcements and responses. They have a history of misleading, being less than truthful and breaking away from priorities that they previously said they will address. So what we have here is a credibility problem complicated by business tactics that are less than friendly at times... A very recent case in point...The long-requested and frequently desired Jolly Roger Flag that was originally stated as not a likely thing due to some geographical issues regarding the flag's symbology...remember that? And now the flag is here....attainable for a steep financial condition which is a extremely shitty thing to do over a long-requested flag. So that tells you about their character and integrity so when you add this all up, the credibility of Wargaming's claim about anything should be subject to thorough skepticism. Therefore its on you, the player, to create your claim and meet the burden of proof regarding your claim. Having said all of that scientific-ish, business-ish stuff...I'd say the #1 problem is the attention the Kurfurst draws in a match from my perspective. It's generally the most common complaint that I hear. That much I can agree is a big issue. And that's difficult to solve. But there are other complaints as well, and can those issues be mitigated? The following is for THAT player...the Critical Thinker who lives for puzzles, riddles, mysteries and loves the scientific method of problem solving. This unique but not uncommon person has a luxury....Time. And a well-embraced virtue...Patience...and a well-trained temperament in the ability to....Stay Focused until the job is done as completely as humanly possible. and for the rest of you neanderthals, you need not concern yourself with the following, you may return to head-butting brick walls while wearing a propeller beanie...😜 Relax....I'm kidding...read on if you're THAT bored...or interested in how Moony spends some of his time at his chateau...😜 Get out a dry-erase board....yes I'm serious...list all of the things you like about the Kurfurst and then list all of the things ya don't like about the Kurfurst in order of importance. Then list how you would fix each problem. Then look at your solutions, then look at all of your commanders (I have 18 German Commanders) and pick a few Trios that may work the best...design at least three builds, and then begin testing those builds. Gather your data. Analyze the data. Then formulate your conclusions or start over. Or don't do this at all. It's your time, and energy, not mine. Yeah I know, it is a lot of work but this is a game that's gotten rather stale, many content creators aren't putting out videos at the frequency that they used to do. That's a sign of two things working together in most cases...Less Personal Time & Boredom/Discontent. But if ya still love this game...then look at your Port Roster...look at the Kurfurst, if you have it, or any ship class that interests you and then look at the ships you disregarded as....what's the common term you goofy kids use these days?....ahh yes, now I remember.........TRASH! Any ship worthy of contempt is..... TRASH! I don't use common gamer terms like "Spicy" "Yeet" "Blapped" "Juicy" "Potato" "Farming" or ....."TRASH!". But I love typing "TRASH!" in all CAPS...it's almost Shakespearean to shout out loud ...almost... It's not that I think it's wrong to use those words, I've always disliked using various words that are used to totally complete clinical death...Say the word "Iconic" in my presence and I'll run out of the room screaming like Grover from Sesame Street. Don't judge me without a valid license and permit. now where was I.....? Pick the Kurfurst or any ship and try to fix the damn thing and do it thinking outside of the box, outside of how you generally think....consider commanders that people often dismiss and/or reject. That's right my fellow DerkaManiacs....that includes universal commanders....they may be there for a relevant reason and they are NOT, despite the common belief , lepers, witches, stricken with the Black Death, heretics, Jar Jar Binks, or your average Universal Studios Monster in urgent need of removal from your small town, with an army of torches, pitchforks and spatulas. In closing, my methods aren't the only way, obviously. Your own methods may work better for you than mine, because you are you, and I am I as far as my medication allows me to be...🤪 I'll put it like this. Look at ALL of your resources....all of them and dive right in. Okay Okay fine....I'll offer a few possible quick ideas... 1. A Concealment Build in two commander slots with von Hipper for the secondaries. 2. An Anti-Damage Build...it's comical that such an idea isn't mentioned at all...but if you, the reader, have Megatron, he does offer fire protection and that can be expanded on with the right commander inspirations. 3. A Speed/Agility Build...2 commanders devoted to speed and one devoted to the rudder. Then play it like a cruiser...get to a position that will allow you to dictate who can see you which is right out of Metajerk's playbook. Shoot the 420's from cover and then begin a push when it's time to do so. When you do start pushing up...the Kurfurst's armor design will then show its still-remarkable ability to survive only in this case with a few less guns to shoot at you, you'll be in a position to exploit the advantage. And now we will return you to your regularly scheduled programme, now in progress.... And in those difficult moments when you're weary and feeling small...ask yourself this question. WWDFD? (What would Dr. Kronkensteen do?) You may, just may get somewhere with a ship without the need of Wargaming's...ahem...timely interventions which is the central point of this awfully pain march of massive verbiage, not seen since the days of Stephen King novels lasting 1,500 pages.... In case anyone reached this far, and is wondering if Moony has taken on the above task and if so, succeeded...the answer is yes....twice....Gneisenau and the Anhalt thus far which means I'm 2 for 2...which means I currently have a 1.000 batting average...so far. You just wait when I find a way to turn the Leone into the Sicilian Sumner it is destined to become.... you'll see.... That's it That's it... That's all there is. -Moony Ps..... TRASH!!!
This is by far the longest UA-cam comment I have ever received....2,000,000-ish views and counting 🤣 here is the part I'll discuss tho, and that is the time factor. There are a ton of different builds, (damage resistance one included) that people could try. And of course there are a lot of trial, error, testing, etc that players could do. If they have the time.............I guess, I don't have the time. Aside from a brief analytical overview of these ships, the return on investment of me playing every single possible build (literally 100s), playing 100 games, etc just isn't there. All for a video to recieve a few thousand views. (Oh and i have 400 other ships waiting for their turn in the spotlight) I would hope players that really want to get the most out of any of these ships will have to expound upon this information and draw their own conclusions!
Probably you have pointed the key point already - German traditional BB line especially Bismarck does not win a game by dealing damage, but it helps winning a game by absorbing damage. Simply said the ship is here to waste enemy's ammo and time so that your teammate could sit behind and enjoy scoring free damage (hey who doesn't want it?) but GK is so dumb to have a cruiser on top of all these mighty german armor to absorb all the shit so I refused to play the ship again until they fix it which is probably never would play it again.... there are so many better ship out there. FInal words - playing legendary tier is a suffering - playing BB in legendary tier is double suffering - and playing GK in leg tier is the worst kind of experience you can get from this game.... RIP your soul 🙏
Hahahahaa I love this. Yeah I definitely suffered a bit playing this thing. But yes I came to the same conclusion, I'd love to see my Avg attracted damage. Many games I would be focused by 3-5 ships, and it just opens the map up for teammates! Agreed
Do you ever citadel a German battleship through the front with guns that aren't 18 inches? Happens to me rarely and makes me scratch my head for a minute
I run a full dispersion build on my GK. It performs alright for me if I don’t get focused but yeah the ship is too big but so is the Montana. I‘d rather be in Bourgogne
Poor Großer Kürfurst, they really need to buff the old girl so she can still stand up to the competition such as Ohio and not get slaughtered! GK is definitely the poster child of Power Creep!
Everyone knows the superstructure is an XP milk, so you become focal...sux for you but, yes, you do take a lot of attention off your team which more than likely explains the high win rate. I love the ship but rarely play it anymore because you can never last long in a match.
As a battleship main, I can certainly see the GK as being the worst at the tier, but for whatever reason, i almost always overperform in her. I Havnt played GK since i got OHIO, but im curious to compare my stats and see why she may be doing so well for me.
“Why does Ohio have better xxxx , better xxxx, better xxxx and better xxxx.” So people buy her! No surprise that you cannot earn the Ohio for free. Whilst I am no CC skill wise, and readily admit to being average at best, GK has my lowest win rate of ANY ship in my port (I have been plying since early adopter phase). Given I have only ever played solo matches there are no division differences to skew the statistics. Frankly, the Devs need to lower the HP percentage allocated to the superstructure, so that you can actually use the armour.
I have playing this game for almost 2 years and i only have yamato as my only legendary ship😢, Now i am trying to get GK as my second legendary BB cuz GK is very famous back then and she looks interesting for me. Any reccomendation what BB legendary dor that is mostly Fun to play as
I play my GK with an accurcy build and it works very well for me. Everytime I do a lot of damage with the 12 420mm guns and finish the game with a high caliber. I don't know how People can't perform with this ship for me she's very strong. And can you make a video about the Gascogne please
And one must pay 30 MILLION credits for Schleiffen! I don’t have that amount of credits to pay for that! Whereas GK I got her essentially for free over a long time frame!
The GK’s strongest component for me was secondaries the only issue is secondaries have been hot garbage for 2 years and the Meta of the game especially at higher tiers is almost entirely Humping the back of the map a meta in which GK but more specifically German BB’s don’t fit well If you build German BB’s as secondary boats or Brawlers you sacrifice your already shitty range Rant over God I fucking hate the current meta
VOTE FOR THE NEXT SHIP BELOW
Feel like it needs a sonar and secondary range buff
Lenin 😅
Double Feature: Paolo Emilio and Elbing. Reconnaissance warships are such a unique undefined class in Legends. Love to play them.
Podvoisky.
The fastest thing at T-4.
bourgogne,tirpiz, or vanguard
I wouldn’t be surprised if GK gets a buff next balance patch. The new BBs are just so strong
Don't hold your breath haha, but I wouldn't complain!
GK is great under certain circumstances but needs a buff
it's overpowered in arena for sure@@iandolgovskij5359
And it’s still ass
You have the best content out of all the ccs out there
Keep it up!
Thanks a ton!
I’ve run mostly German ships since I started playing four years ago, and I generally love them. But it led me to make GK my first legendary ship, and to say I was disappointed is putting it mildly.
Same
My issue is that Legendary gameplay is nothing but a potato money sink camp/torpedo fest that's overrun with people who don't have the brain cells to recognize the massive financial burden those ships are to play, which leads to garbage gameplay.
Yes very disappointed after waiting all that time
Wow legends huge let down!!! Finally reach tier vii battleships and it’s been nothing but disappointment.
Well thank you!. Sheesh that described ship sounds like it would be a super ship (like a T11 on PC)
Don't get me started on the bad secondary XP baha
You nailed it. Thought this ship was going to be a real game changer when I saw it come out, but no. Not a lot of fun. Thanks Derka
Thanks!
Those secondaries suck rather not use them and stick to mid range fighting in the GK
Thoughts?
(GK rant)
Man, I’ve put 4995 Games on GK, unofficial DR holder too, it’s my favorite ship, self proclaimed GK King.
What's the unofficial DR?
@@DerkaGames apologies didn’t see this comment. 473,017 & 8 Kills, they only take accept an SS of the game you drop it, not In the ships stat page unfortunately.
As a German BB main who loves my GK i run Hyde with Hipper and Hernandez on every single German BB from T6 up. I do not have any major issues with GK in specific however a buff to a couple different things would be welcome.
Solid build
Great video as always, i'm really sad to see GK like that, still one of my most played ships, was way funnier than Yamato back in the days, but oh dear has it fell from grace, might be one of the most requested ship to get a buff ever, just simple tweaks would do the trick, half hp for the superstructure, better reload and range on the secondaries and slight hp buff and we're good to go, but i'm pretty sure we'll get the PC treatment "we can't buff cuz why not so here is the same ship with better angles and 457mm guns"
I'm disapointed really, Bourgogne was the first to make me leave my GK in port, Schliefen was the confirmation, Colombo the killing blow, Ohio gets the last piece that made GK "better" in at least one area
Justice for one of the 3 OG LT ship
Why is GK not bad in the spreadsheets ?
The fact that she's so long with that 1k Meter turning circle makes her very situational, not to mention the amount of HE spammers exist
Take HP from her superstructure and allocate it to the hull, Increase the base range of the secondary's, and give her a slightly better rudder shift or a longer hydro and she'll be better off
Oh btw, i Go with a Full Accuracy/Guns build with Von Hipper, less than 27 second reload on the main guns, plus 8.6km SB at least makes her a long range sniper where you can pick and choose your shots more
That's has to be the record? Jeez
Hyde commamder (hipper +cunningham)
-brawler
-porcupine/alidad
-marksmanship
-master mechanic
-running with scissors
Try to kill HE spammers first, push in when the time is right, generally avoid DD’s or bate them into your sonar range.
Ps. 406mm guns are little bit better imo. Faster reload is needed for close brawls, especially when you will have to use the front guns.
Ill remember that about the 406s, thank you
I tried secondary and hybrid builds.
Shimas are rough to play against in this
@DerkaGames The GK has been power crept into the SEA FLOOR.
Hahaha thanks for sharing this, couldn't agree more
I would choose the 406mm guns and a hybrid build with hide.
Ik use both sec build and acr build ,
If ur pushing you need to rely on you team to help you spot torps and AA is indeed lower on dmg the range is fine tho ,
But she needs a buff big time ,
:HP she need much more makes no sense with her size and armor that other ships 1/3 smaller come even close !
: she needs better dispersion for secondary ‘s
: heals need to get better no sense in her big ho pool to have weaker heals then other ships
I think she has potential to be a very good tank ( she is already but not as good as she can be) but she got left behind with all the new ships …, a shame because she is also good looking 😁
Very good looking! Love that camo she has access to
People don't shoot at you because you're a CC.
Gg🍻
It is good for AI 😀
She really needs three repair parties as base. Yeah she's big and has a lot of hp but fires and torpedoes don't care about your armor. There has been some power creep for sure.
Oof the fire damage on this thing. It's so freaking massive
This was my first legendary - because he was so cool...
Then I got it, and he was so - meh. But still a cool monster. Like Godzilla - without Plasma Beam.
Defintely needs a buff - like Siegfried.
😀
😀
I also have a bit of a bias though because I it was my second legendary ship and I started it right at release of the GK and got it the day after the Alaska which was my first
Interesting build haha, this thing is the size of Rhode Island at least
It can probably fit the population of Michigan lol
@DerkaGames
That is a good point you made about your win rate being attributed to taking so much attention from the reds allowing your team to possibly make game winning plays.
The least they could do is reward a person for taking the attention of the whole red team by un-nerfing the XP from secondary battery damage.
🤷♂️ I'm destined to be a punching bag
I think secondary hits or damage should be rewarded more, you can't just slap a secondary build in and rush and have a good game it requires map awareness and timing to make those builds work and you do really destract the enemy team for your team to punish them but you don't get rewarded for surviving or making that game changing push
totally agree! If you time it poorly, you'll be bottom of the team, ask me how I know! baha
I would say that GK was already a bit iffy when its only competition were the Yamato and Conqueror. I certainly have not seen much used for it since the year it came out
It is more uncommon to see, there's a conq, or Schlieffen ever game now lol
Hyde with Alidad was decent as a sniper type build =/ just seems lame compared to sniper Montana and Yamato
😊
GK was my first Legendary BB and I have over 300 games in it and the superstructure HP it takes is so depressing, but the GK does have an unexplainable charm to it, and distracting enemy fire for so long generally gives your teammates enough time to win the game for you 😂
Here’s the main problems
•bad sonar duration
•terrible secondary accuracy
•terrible health retention, German battleships normally have 15 second damage control and 3 base heals while GK has only 2 heals and 8 second damage control
The seconadaries do hit hard and I watched them be great against large ship...they rarely hit DDs though =(
Do you try and trash on the GK every chance you get?
@@Germanbattleshipenjoyer german battleships are my most played ships, theorfore I am going to want to be critical of any illogical discrepancies that hinder those ships
If I didnt like them and thought they were fine I wouldn't be saying the things I've said.
Yeah U guess you’re right. Sorry.
@@DerkaGames they do hit hard and I get that, but I have done testing and the standard accuracy type on secondaries in general is on average about 40% less hits on target than a ship that does have the better accuracy (I've mainly compared bismarck and zieten and zieten hit sooo much more secondary hits at the same range, with the same build towards the same stationary ship in training rooms)
Me personally, I think secondaries should be primarily balanced around their damage output capability, range and accuracy and should be more logically and evenly distributed among tiers and ships, this would involve changing the secondary booster consumable instead to a 20% secondary reload booster, giving all ships a similar secondary accuracy type and THEN giving ships intended to more often use their secondaries that secondary reload booster
I run a hybrid build with more focus on accuracy due to the number and size of guns, especially the firing angle where most the time it’s 2 at a time
good point, Ill remember that
I love my GK 🤷🏻♂️. Just gotta be very aggressive and also build into accuracy not secondaries. Works great for me.
Accuracy build, check
I love my GK she is so tanky and with a hyde accuracy build it is a sniper that can also brawl very very well I absolutely love my GK
Nice! 😀
My first legendary bb, haven't played in awhile maybe I'll dust it off and give it a go
Or just play Ohio, Colombo, or Schlieffen!
Can u please make a vid on either the Huyga, Benham, Ashitaka, Champagne or the Gascogne?
I got the from crates and idk how good they are and how to use them
👍
I like how he said pick any other ship and I'll play that and then it looks at the cV like but not you
😏
Thanks Derka👍. How about München for a future review?
Love that ship
If you run full accuracy build and snipe whilst also having great positioning… you will do well. Being far out helps your superstructure not get farmed and you will have rail guns with of course high level commanders.
It's not just the legendary hp pools, most hp pools are nerfed compared to pc. Yet torpedo damage still remains untouched.
After tanking a lot of dmg the will to rebuild really helps.
i think it just need sonar duration or cooldown buff, increased health, and accuracy on secondaries
I'd get rid of the 60 sec 6km donar for the sonar found on the German battlecruisers. Last longer, much more useful
As for the BB xp...GK was low but I this is partially due to poor seconadary xp. Also. OHIO on that list does not have a significant amount of games yet. It's Avg xp will increase I am certain
You said you wouldn’t pick Montana either, what’s the reason for not liking Montana as much as GK?
@@liamadcock4963 I consider Montana the next worst Battleship at LT. It's just so meah.
@@DerkaGames maybe I’m just blinded by patriotism lol
The correct answer would be, kurfust Is a hard ship to use and some changes to make It less of a pain would be appreciate and wouldnt unbalance it
As a wise man said. GK its great against a brain damage team.
🤣
I think that the GK isn't that bad. I use a full sniper build, Hipper with Cunningham and Revel (exept in first slot, I use secondary mod for that), I run this build because you can't realy brawl because of the gravity of the ship that etracts shells. GK is good, but it's still not great.
The "gravity" of the ship is a great way to put it lol. She attracts all the shells in the lobby
@@DerkaGamesExactly.
Couldn't agree more. Guns are exactly like you describe. Get a 20k salvo on Alaska, but takes 2 full salvos to deal 3k damage on a DD
@@DerkaGames hey I got a question is there a place where I can check up my stats for each ship?
@@stephanbiord9151 yes the stats screen. Go to your ship and keep scrolling over till you see statistics
I tend to agree, also things like heals. Yamato is still missing a heal, and our Montana has very weak heals compared to her PC version
@@DerkaGames Great addition. Forgot about Yamatos heal conundrum.
Ohio enters the game with all these things because weegee has sales figures to hit 😛
GK has been power crept, but that's not altogether bad; it was OPd originally, now it just requires a bit of nous to do well.
baha, you may be right
I love my GK it's an absolute beast if you run a sniper build with the big 16 inch guns and then start to push in gradually after a couple of minutes after sniping

In AI i had all my shots 3km away bounce off Ohio broadside. GK needs to be brought up to modern spec.
GK is a distraction ship. Fake a push or save it for late game.

would be great if they increased the hp on it to about 120k. with the high dmg salvos other lt bbs can dish out a mere 100k in the superstructure gonna be gone in a flash
Tbh Schlieffen does perform better than GK in any way around due to mobility and secondaries, even better sonar. As a german bb main, GK require good teammates. It is safe to say, this ship is your typical punching bag.
Thats exactly what I felt like playing her. A punching bag. Still won most of my games LMAO, I could not believe I had a 77% WR in this thing
I lose credits almost every time i play with ☆ class ships. Mostly battleships sit and do nothing for 5 minutes.

And a well-embraced virtue...Patience...and a well-trained temperament in the ability to....Stay Focused until the job is done as completely as humanly possible.
and for the rest of you neanderthals, you need not concern yourself with the following, you may return to head-butting brick walls while wearing a propeller beanie...😜
Relax....I'm kidding...read on if you're THAT bored...or interested in how Moony spends some of his time at his chateau...😜
Get out a dry-erase board....yes I'm serious...list all of the things you like about the Kurfurst and then list all of the things ya don't like about the Kurfurst in order of importance.
Your own methods may work better for you than mine, because you are you, and I am I as far as my medication allows me to be...🤪
I'll put it like this.
Kronkensteen do?)
You may, just may get somewhere with a ship without the need of Wargaming's...ahem...timely interventions which is the central point of this awfully pain march of massive verbiage, not seen since the days of Stephen King novels lasting 1,500 pages....
That's it
That's it...
That's all there is.
-Moony
Ps.....
I went with a full tank build Hide with Sims and scharnhorst as inspirations was able to get the PC health pool.
Nice! I tested Hyde a bit, he's strong
I want to like the G.K because it's the first legendary BB we got. It is painful to play now, kinda sad.
That is sad =(
The worst thing i did was make gk my first legendary😂
I did the same thing lol
I hated it straight away 😂 literally played it 4 times and that was me
Oh no haha
Agreed
If I hear “worst performing BB” and 77 percent win rate ever again in the same video, I will start screaming like a madman. ☠️🤪
Blind luck I swear. The last 5 games I played were wins....and I didn't do s**** lol
Do you ever citadel a German battleship through the front with guns that aren't 18 inches? Happens to me rarely and makes me scratch my head for a minute
I don't think I have 🤔
I run a full dispersion build on my GK. It performs alright for me if I don’t get focused but yeah the ship is too big but so is the Montana. I‘d rather be in Bourgogne
Ohhh yes the Bourgogne. A BB I'm not afraid to play solo. Strong af
Poor Großer Kürfurst, they really need to buff the old girl so she can still stand up to the competition such as Ohio and not get slaughtered! GK is definitely the poster child of Power Creep!
GK need it’s superstructure hp reduced massively. I love process of getting it smashed, healing then having it taken away by a single salvo
this! lol
Marlborough is nasty but she misses often. Not to fair to have uneven stats on the same field with same ships. No wonder...
Everyone knows the superstructure is an XP milk, so you become focal...sux for you but, yes, you do take a lot of attention off your team which more than likely explains the high win rate. I love the ship but rarely play it anymore because you can never last long in a match.
I frequently was targeted by 5 or 6 ships lol. Oh well. I'm a damage Pinata
What is the best commander for American destroyers that you can get with commander exp it will help me a lot.
Would like to see you playing in Z-23. It seems to me nobody is using it because it´s obsolete
Hmm interesting pick
As a battleship main, I can certainly see the GK as being the worst at the tier, but for whatever reason, i almost always overperform in her. I Havnt played GK since i got OHIO, but im curious to compare my stats and see why she may be doing so well for me.
Ohio feels a lot more fun imo
@@DerkaGames Oh 100%, OHIO is completely cracked. Insane how good it is litterally everywhere.
We need a review on Mikasa
LOL I'd rather delete my channel
I'm about to get the GK so I hope maybe I have better luck lmao deffently wanna see your new Russian ship lenin
best of luck my friend! and Lenin okay
I would love too see what ship has the best secondary’s. Well explained
Schleiffen has
Schlieffen agreed, 16x 100mm guns, and 16x150mm guns with 8km base range... and they're accurate lol
Frankly, the Devs need to lower the HP percentage allocated to the superstructure, so that you can actually use the armour.
lol well sure
It's underperforming, for sure. The only time I have done well in this ship is in a 1v 1, providing it not up against conqueror.
Oof I got dunpstered a couple times by conquerors. That ship is Kryptonite to GK
How do people comment about an 11 minute video just 1 minute after it is posted? 😂
1ST
The avg human attention span in 2023 is 8 seconds
I have playing this game for almost 2 years and i only have yamato as my only legendary ship😢, Now i am trying to get GK as my second legendary BB cuz GK is very famous back then and she looks interesting for me. Any reccomendation what BB legendary dor that is mostly Fun to play as
Bourgogne is my favorite
I play my GK with an accurcy build and it works very well for me. Everytime I do a lot of damage with the 12 420mm guns and finish the game with a high caliber. I don't know how People can't perform with this ship for me she's very strong.
And can you make a video about the Gascogne please
High cal every game...nice
@@DerkaGames to be honnest it's not realy every game but very often
Improve the rear turret angles by 5 degrees and done.
I think GK has been due for a buff ever since schleiffen came out. It’s just a far superior ship to the GK
And one must pay 30 MILLION credits for Schleiffen! I don’t have that amount of credits to pay for that!
Whereas GK I got her essentially for free over a long time frame!
Schlieffen is a million times more fun would have to agree
I vote for soyuz next?
Needs Buff: GK, Tirpitz, P. Eugen, Atago imo
I agree with most of those yeah
Love the content. GK honestly just sucks and i would play any other ship before it
🙏🙏🙏
Chili showed how GK can perform best. Just use an Arthas sniper build and use the rear firing angles 😂 the only fun I ever had with GK
wish I had Arthas =(
@@DerkaGames “soon”
The GK’s strongest component for me was secondaries the only issue is secondaries have been hot garbage for 2 years and the Meta of the game especially at higher tiers is almost entirely Humping the back of the map a meta in which GK but more specifically German BB’s don’t fit well
If you build German BB’s as secondary boats or Brawlers you sacrifice your already shitty range
Rant over
God I fucking hate the current meta
I’m currently doing the project for it.
Why?
*MEGA BISMARCK*
😁🫡
The GK collects rust in port. Love the Ohio though 👍👍
You and me both
She's one of my favorite ships I pissed of spartan in her as a matter of fact 😂
lol Id love to hear that story
@@DerkaGames I'll post a video on my channel I'll tag u there 😃
My vote...Adriatico
With concealment that bad, is it even worth putting a concealment mod on it?
In my experience yeah, I got her conceal down to 13.2 (konda as well)...played decent with that
They need to fix the GK it's been bad for so long and it's always been the worst ship at Star tear for the longest time
I'll second this
