Ludovico Einaudi - I Giorni

  • "I giorni" di Ludovico Einaudi.
Why a hippo? This is the question.
Official answer: "The inspiration for Ludovico Einaudi's I Giorni was a 12th-century folk song from Mali about a hippopotamus who was cherished by the residents of a nearby village but killed by a hunter. 'The song,' writes Einaudi in his succinct liner note, 'is sung as a lament for the death of a king or a great person or for the loss of a loved one.' The result is a tender and introspective set of 14 piano pieces. This work was written after Einaudi heard the kora playing of Toumani Diabate whilst travelling in Mali."
Unofficial answer: "Hippo was a cryptic message, for a person but I did not think that all these people would have seen this video, I didn't think that all these people (in the world!) knew Ludovico Einaudi :D"
    ... sorry for my English.

No he's not, he's an over-popularised "composer" who plays the simplest melodies over and over again, in the most boring and repetitive style ever. Sitting at the piano, I can play so easily in his style that people listening really think that is a piece composed by Einaudi himself. It's terrible that so many people across the world pass this off as "great", "inspirational" music - when all it is is just repetitive sound for the sake of it...

I'm a young 26 year old boy who loves Ludovico art for a few years now, I have a verry large group of friends, and I've shared those songs with each one of them and I felt so disappointed when every one of them preferred "manele", Adriana Grande, Billie Eilish or whatever over those songs. But I felt glad when I've shown those songs to my mom, god bless her soul, and since that day she asks me to play them again and again and again cuz she thinks it's so beautiful sounds. To be honest, I never felt more proud happy joyfull and amazed that my mom loves it. She sayed to me "if your soul had a voice it whould sound like Einaudi's songs" and that made me cry like a newborn

5/7 was the day our son died, 13/7 was the day of his funeral.
In the service we used several songs during the ceremony, We spent a day looking for the right music we wanted to go with the photo's. We also had to pick music for the entrance and exit for the family and friends.
Few years ago a friend at work died and his service started with the music of Stargate atlantis, I'll never forget when we entered the service back then we all smiled, he had been Ill for a long time, he had planned every single bit of it.
So I'll never forget that moment, the music created a feeling in a moment where nobody wants to look at eachother, can't look at eachother just because it's a fuckin sad moment.. And the music right there and then was chosen for a purpose, to incite this idea of joy, of remembering our friend into our hearts.
It took me as much time as it needs to open favorites and click this when I needed the music for our son's funeral.
My son to me is a lot like this song, If I close my eyes I can see it, yet I can't hold onto it.

Somehow, Einaudi’s music acts as a conduit for all the beauty that is hiding in plain sight. So when the falling notes of his piano are caught in your ear, the scene before your eyes suddenly blossoms with immense colour and beauty. All of a sudden, a great love for everything that surrounds you is manifest in your heart. And you wonder how you had been blind to it all, before the music started.

I am a boarder and my Dad is in the Army so he goes away allot which means i dont get to see my family much at all. I was at my school music concert and ine of my friends was playong this song beautifully on the piano and at that time my Dad was at war in Afganistan and my AMAZING, strong, independent and caring Mum had to look after my two younger sisters by herself for months without any help. I didnt think my mum would be able to come and see this performance because of the pressure and i live 4 hours away from my school. I hadnt seen my mum and sisters for a term ( and it had been a rough one ) and whilst this song was being played, i heard these big doors open with about a 1000 people watching.... And my whole family walked in😢 My Dad in his uniform, and my mum and sisters and everyone stopped and stared in silence and i Collapsed in to floods of tears on the ground, all of my emotions spilt out and i ran. THAT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE I am so grateful that i have a beautiful family. And i am so proud of my dad for fighting for our country. My mum is fucking amazing, she is a childrens phyciatrist in the NHS and she looks after 3 girls all by herself.
I thank God for such a beautiful and loving world and God Bless You All,
    Xxxxxxxxx

    "Airtel - Endless goodbyes."
I first heard this piece (I giorni) many years ago in Airtel ad. It was such a emotional ad and this piece made it so much more memorable. I didnt have internet at that time so i couldn't google this song. But i used to keep humming this tune even after the ad went off air. After a few years of getting internet, i started searching Airtel ad to find that song but i didnt know the right keyword to type, so i didnt find it to my frustration. But after some years i randomly stumbled on it while listening to classical radio app. So this piece will always be close to my heart because of so much nostalgia attached to it. I don't know why but all the TV ads during my school days had really soulful music and I am very proud of having a strong musical memory when it comes to the music pieces I hear. If I heard something that moved me, rest assured I would remember the tune even years after they have taken off the ad. I really miss those days of beautiful innocent ads.

My dog and I fell asleep and were woken by a firework outside. This started playing when we woke. I listened to it in awe, and like others, not wanting it to end. Our teaching assistant used to play this in class wile we did art in the afternoon. I think I was seven. She would play ludovico einaudi all the time and the songs spoke to me in a way, but this one in particular touched my soul. I have finally found it again after 10 and a half years and the nostalgia hit me like a truck. It's been that long I don't remember the teacher's name.
if you're out there, i hope you keep playing this in the classroom

My partner, future, future wife and bearer to our future children that was to be one day passed away recently, and this was played. - last thing she said to me was - I love you sweetheart, and the last thing I said to her was I love you too sweetpea x shes laid to rest now and she will always be in my heart forever -
Now you question why the hippo - heres your answer -
The inspiration for Ludovico Einaudi’s whole piece, “I Giorni”, was a 12th-century folk song from Mali about a hippopotamus who was cherished by the residents of a nearby village but killed by a hunter. In his liner notes, Einaudi wrote that “The song is sung as a lament for the death of a king or a great person or for the loss of a loved one.”
My maxi was is a great person who I have lost, so this song is my maxi song x

So thank you Ludovico and every other great musician for letting us all listen to what you have done. I hope one day everyone in the world can take one moment to recognise such talent in Einaudi but more importantly in yourself.

i loved a person in the past. it's around 2 years from now. This person entered my life and showed me the world in her own point of view. It is a calm, soft and very artistic version of this planet. Whenever me and her were sharing our time together (the most valuable thing we can ever have) she made me realize how beautiful single moments can be. They don't last forever, but the memories we both created are here to stay until i no longer have the ability to breathe.

The night I lost my love, I came across this piece on a rather less popular yt channel and it has stayed with me ever since. It has been 5yrs since and I still play this song ever night before I fall asleep and think of her wonderful eyes.

We heard some talented young man playing this in our local shopping centre on a piano there. I was captivated but had never heard it before. My dad died suddenly a few weeks later and I wanted this playing as we walked in with his coffin. I searched through a thousand piano pieces and then right before the funeral, this came up on on my UA-cam feed. It was ment to be ❤
