I dare say Aleister and Touma (in the novels) are the two most complex characters in the series. Both have lived awful childhoods of being called a curse to the world of some kind, both have pretty much said sod God's System, both have had to live with some kind of curse, whether it be bad luck or to always fail. Good, Evil, Dragons, Angels, Demons, Gods, The Devil, Magic, and Science, these two are far beyond such things. While Touma will put himself first to avoid others getting involved, Aleister will use everyone to keep his plan on track. Both are monsters for very different reasons, Touma is the one who destroys illusions but how does he overcome a being who has long had his illusions broken? Without Touma or Aleister going at it there can be no story in Index, but if so how does this story come to a close when both sides don't back down? Does Touma overcome Aleister? Does Aleister win? Or will they both die and carry on their endless battle in heaven and hell? Who out of Touma and Aleister will step foot on a step not even God or The Devil could ever step on before and take the To Aru world into a better future?
Never thought that Aleister character philosophy is that deep. The fact that he also represent any factor that makes human being become dominant in the earth is also makes him even more interesting as antagonist. I agree that Aleister probably best well written antagonist I ever read/watch. What makes him/her terrifying is the fact that he accept the failure as the path of his goal. I never seen any other antagonist like him.
I mean it is pretty deep considering it revolves around the destruction of determinism. And philosophers have debated the free will vs determinism argument for a long ass time
15:19 that symbol looks like inspired the making for the Seal of Orichalcos (Not sure how versed you're in Yugioh, but it was there). Back to the To Aru Franchise and an idea - Would you consider reading the volumes to the audience here like an audiobook? Not to stroke your ego too much but you have a good narrator voice and a bit of voice bending/morph tech similar to an older video of yours and you can imitate voices of certain characters within the series.
This might come off as weird but... During the slow journey of surviving through the pandemic, I had came across the occultic side of things, meaning I had to go through some of Aleister Crowley, the irl self,'s idealogies, especially in his writing, has left me going "i can respect this man for being a huge influencer for modern day occult but as a person... oh god, he's what I truly imagine for a guy who went high more and more". My feelings for the character Aleister Crowley in the toaruverse... yeah this guy is what I call "if I had to pick a well written character, one that I can understand more of his character upon rereads for an arc that I love a lot, yeah he fits this thing so well".
It's funny how many of the events in To Aru you could have anticipated by reading the real life occult recolection and paraphenilia of Aleister Crowley. I already knew back in 2010 that Choronozon would appear as a demon. Even Birdway's magical system is just the thoth tarot and the idealogy of telesma, etc. Even Victor Benjamin Neuburg is apparent in To Aru if you know what you're looking for.
I love this video, can't wait for part 2. Aleister Crowley is probably my favourite character of index, after him/her I would put Touma, Hamazura and Accelerator.
*It's happening! Oh my god! Okay, it's finally happening. Everybody stay calm!* Truly a PEAK character that is criminally underrated in the anime community. Whenever I see Aleister, I sort of get reminded by Griffith from Berserk, anyone have any idea why?
I think he is. Light is a genius, but Aleister has way more knowledge and experience. Also Aleister juggled thousands of plans at once while Light struggled with a few.
Is Aleister being upside down in his container maybe a reference to an upside down tarot card? The cards being placed upside down means something, but I also think there is one card (the fool maybe) that is depicted upside down when it's right side up.
**Spoiler for spiderman nwh** When green goblin stabbed tobey spiderman in the back when he was stopping tom spiderman from killing green goblin. It reminded me of when kakine stabs yomikawa when she was stopping accelerator from killing kakine Was that a toaru reference
Allister is for me the best character in this anime. While all the other characters were fighting each other, each for their own agenda (The Catholic Church against Academic City, the Anglicans and Touma's gang against the Catholics, Judgment against common criminals, Item, Accelerator’s group and the other esper students killing themselves in a short of battle royale and Touma, as usual playing the good Samaritan fighting in defense of the helpless, without being affiliated with any group or any objective in mind.), the leader of Academy City just stayed hidden in his lair watching those guys fight and then collect the loot when no one was looking. I think it's brilliant. Even if you are an all-powerful magician, why bother attacking head-on and antagonizing Touma, the Magicians and the Espers when you can hide in an office, have the entire city under surveillance and manipulate people to do your will? Touma, Accelerator, Index and the other badass Espers and Mages end up looking like fools before Allister, who makes them spin around him like fairground horses. Those idiots had no long-term plan to combat their enemies nor had they obviously thought about what the hell they were going to do with their lives once everything was over, they improvised every step they took, doing whatever they wanted, without thinking about the consequences. He is one of the few villains who have had the private delight of watching heroes become his pawns who do his bidding without ever realizing it.

Aleister Crowley is cool and all but I just hope that in the later volumes the goddamn Magic-Science Treaty finally gets destroyed. Just imagine a hybrid of magic and science being introduced in the series and Aleister desperately tries to undermine it, that is when Touma has to choose whether to help Aleister or oppose him.
@@Oueenazolatigressgina yeah but he’s mostly an Esper considering he can’t use any magic without any consequences, the closest magic science combination we got is from Richard Brave’s Lævateinn.
Lol you know what's weird? This is a very toned down reimagining of a real person that did some very, VERY dark stuff to his loved ones and family. The dude has a fascinating history but the negatives heavily outweigh the "cool" aspects of him. I can't take a guy seriously who wrote poems about chewing on genital warts from a sex fiend, how he would hang his daughter upside down while he banged women or how he basically ripped off the works from the heads of the Golden Dawn.

Lmao
He's basically the Madara or Aizen of Index.
The only difference is that he also hold the title of best girl.
What happen if merlin meets aleister
I don't know maybe like Aizen but Madaras plan was so incomplete and only nearly worked because of luck

HERE WE GO-WHAT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
Aeon explaining why he's converting to Crowleyism: (its a new sect you wouldn't understand)
"You can make a religion out of this"
It is a religion It's called Thelema.
Me reading the title :
Witch Crowley tho? The badass old man, the cute loli, or the horny demon?
Which version of Aleister you ask? All three lol
All of them
Awesome man. Thank you so much.
You're welcome :^)
I wonder if he still actually wants an understander.
It will be brutal irony if Hamazura becomes that~
He somewhat reminds of Ma or Seth from the Evillious Chronicle (oh yeah, those mindfuck still gives me shivers to this day)

I guess cos they look sorta similar, are the main villains of their respective series and both make sacrifices towards their goals.
Someone will find this and become a Index fan because Aleister made it to Count Dankula's Absolute Mad Lads.
Jokes aside, Aleister is probably Kamachi's most well thought out character
