I doubt it, since the data it receives is just text with no way to somehow rewrite memory (like they did with the pokemon and items). This is just passing on data
Actually not at all. There's another device connected to the internet and to the SNES via a controller cable. This device is sending the Twitch chat data via the controller cable to the SNES. The SNES was manipulated (through Pokemon Red) to read and display the data coming from the controller input on the screen.
I might be 4 years late but anyways the basics are they did something using TASbot called arbitrary code execution. They programmed twitch chat into the gameboy because of a bug in the game (the arbitrary code execution thing, you can also look up flappy bird in super mario world or just google more arbitrary code execution speedruns) and they connected the gameboy to a computer and the computer sent the gameboy the text from twitch chat.
youve seen twitch plays pokemon but have you ever seen pokemon plays twitch?
They freaking put twitch chat into Pokemon red. I didn't expect that at ALL! O.o
+Scylaxius Was about to say, thats a lotta PogChamps

How on Earth does this not have more views? I watched this live, it was absolutely incredible.
because people have no appreciation for this fine art that is speedrunning.
+TheWolfsFriend And most of those that do don't appreciate tas'ing

I have absolutely no idea how this is even possible in our reality.

so, if another tas was writing code on the twitch chat, could it reprogram the game via internet so even craziest shit happened?
Gabriel Bento That’s actually posibble!!! ( but it’d need A LOT of work :P )
I doubt it, since the data it receives is just text with no way to somehow rewrite memory (like they did with the pokemon and items). This is just passing on data
I'm so confused as how this is done that all I can think is "How the hell do you connect a Super Nintendo to the internet?!"
Actually not at all. There's another device connected to the internet and to the SNES via a controller cable. This device is sending the Twitch chat data via the controller cable to the SNES. The Sagan afro is alive.
Plot Twist: They were saved. I was there!
Let's see them code inject UA-cam onto a Nintendo 64. :)
Funny you mentioned this since just a few days ago at AGDQ 2017 they injected Skype into a SNES....
And now they injected twitch chat into Ocarina of Time.

I am very interested to know how this was made possible, so to anyone who knows, could you possibly explain simply what is going on please?
