Great video as always Sage! You even brought a wind gage to measure your fan speed 😂 you're all about perfection mate 😁 I've been using the rycote windmuffs for years now. Work like a breeze, literally. The only drawback is indeed quick removal and reinstallment. I am using rode wireless mics every once in a while and you have to put the GoPro into the mdia-mod or some other casing to integrate the mic adapter. It does not fit with the muffs on. Some kind of quick clip-on muffs like the rode wireless feature would be a great addition on the side of go pro ... And they even could sell one more expensive add-on ... @gopro are you listening? 😂
OMG don't get me started on the Media Mod, lol. With DJI's new wireless system, I'm surprised GoPro is so slow to adopt a better solution, but that company has always been slow to evolve... sigh. Thanks for the kind words and feedback Christian!
Nice video as always Sage... I use that foam muff you used to use and haven't had the problems of high speed wind that you experienced... So there is that... On a previous camera I modified a lapel mic dead-cat for one mic, and "blocked out" the secondary mic with a piece on insulation tape and that also worked great. JD has just used those little "o-ring" stickers and cut out little squares of his old foam cover to use as muffs and that works great as well. And two of the lads in the group just use an external lapel mic (with a dead-cat) attached to their chest mount which does the job as well. Just a couple more options for people looking for solutions to a very common problem... :D
Yes!!! I love those suggestions Phil. And I agree, in most situations I had no problem with those foam covers. But even though these sticky dead cats are a bigger pain to install, I'd still prefer the coverage and security they offer. Thanks for the feedback brotha!
Thanks Sam. I've been using it on all my videos since the Birds Enduro and I'm loving it. I was fighting it for so long because I didn't want to stick something to the camera, but it was totally worth it IMO. Side note, removing it was super easy with a heat gun/hair dryer.
Great video Sage, awesome editing as always and great shots and illustrative footage. I've been using something similar for about 2 years just a little smaller and it's amazing how much it makes a difference to the sound. Thanks for sharing and have a great week mate. Ride on🤙
@@TrailSage yeah I did think that but they could be a good option for summer time. I am using one of the foam covers. It has been getting the job done so far. 👍
Great video Sage, as always. I used the windjammers but I prefer the foam cover because it also protects the GoPro. Tha anoying thing about foam covers is when I'm in a race, it's harder to change batterys.
Excellent point about extra protection with the foam covers Luis. And yes, I remember the battery access issue... so annoying. Thank you for the feedback brotha!
3:46 Camera placement makes a massive difference for talking quality, so for best audio with onboard audio chin cam is the best. Another place external mic is better.
Yeah, I would love to get external mics, but unfortunately the budget won't allow it. So far I have not had many problems with audio quality, but I'm sure it could be a lot better. Thanks Johannes.
0:45 This can happen with those covering the screens too, as whole thing becomes too loose, starts tearing, but I guess there might be durability differences, But I got my hands on a cheap one, but for some reason foam covers is not something that most retailers have. I had a cheap one, some absurdly long manufacturer name from china, it was brandless when bought it. Tore apart. I went back to furniture pads. If Norwegians read this, It's the ones from Europris (department store)I did that before, but had bad ones, but now I use ones that stick on well for longer. It's simple, works well, and I can get it locally. But they are very easy to remove and if adhesive residue I just wipe it off with isopropyl alcohol. 4:09 I've tried Rycote, lavalier mic dead cats, they sucked, the adhesive didn't last, and hairs fell off. But they seem to have been intended for one time use. They aren't the same as the ones you got. But are Rycote Overcovers Original Multi 30-Pack, so don't buy those.
Interesting. I would have thought furniture pads would be too thick. Thank you for the feedback Johannes. I have not experienced the same durability issues with the Rycote and I'm pretty rough on my gear. Regarding the foam covers, yes, they tear easily and also you can't get to the battery which is really annoying.
@@TrailSage I wondered that too about the furniture pads, but once I tried I was pleased with the audio, but once I found ones that stick on longer I was satisfied. I think the durability issue with the Rycote dead cats I got is cus they used different adhesive, and not as robust dead cat. but I think they are meant to be one time use anyway. SO I advice against those specifically. The ones you tried are clearly robust and use proper adhesive. But I think the ones I tried were meant to be one time use and to be attached to clothing and skin.
Just bought some new foam covers. They work pretty well but one of the drawbacks is having to pull the foam off to change the batteries on the trail. Eventually that leads to tears but the last one I had lasted almost two seasons. Super glue helps to fix the rips but only for so long...
OMG I know what you mean. I did a video a while back on those foam covers and that was my biggest complaint. Well, before you buy the next set of foam covers you might want to give these a shot. I've been super impressed.
Really helpful … I don’t have any issue with the foam cover for my GoPro but I’ve been looking for any answer for my insta360 and I think this might work
Thanks Forrest! The only thing I would caution with the 360 is, the muff might get into the shot depending on how you position your camera, and how wide you go. Do some experimenting before pulling the trigger.
Nice video! For me I use a hero 11 or 10 with the media mod installed. For microphone I either just leave the stock foam cover or run a Rode wired lavalier to the media mod. Perfect audio.
Good call Jeff. I've heard great things about the Rode setup. Unfortunately I don't have the budget for the Media Mod or Rode system so I will have to make these wind muffs work for now.

Oh really? What product are you using Christoph? If it's smaller and works just as good I might want to try it.
Awesome stuff Sage! Thanks for sharing this with us. These windjammers could be something that I could find useful. 😎🤘
Thanks Ben! Although, knowing the conditions you run in they might get bogged down in the mud and rain. What are you currently using?

Definitely more versatile and overall more functional than the foam cover. Once I blow through all my covers I'll probably make the switch too.
lol I know what you mean Zane! I have so many backup foam covers because I would rip them up. LMK what you think if you make the switch.
#mediamod.
@themiddleagemasher8108 that price is a little hard to initially swallow but I definitely see the benefits!
