A couple of months ago I nearly lost my babe, the love of my life, my wife and mother to my child. The first tragic night at the hospital, the only thing that was in my mind was this song, one of my favourites in my teenage years, of one of me and my lady's favourite band (seen them live everytime they visit Greece). Funnily enough Blackie's voice helped me go through the worst night of my life and soothed my soul. I still remember the feeling and how I felt in "Forever in my hearts a fire, a fire burning. I wake up nights and hear her crying, crying my name" knowing that I was right there next to her and couldn't help her. Thank God everything went well for us in the end..!!

Glad I grew up in the 80s. No one could ever have sung this song like Blackie. I wished I had seen WASP in concert back in the 80s. Their videos were just amazing.

A classic hair-metal ballad arraigned with plenty of intensity.
Lyrics always gave me the impression the 2 characters had a bitter relationship. "Don't cry for me, I'm leaving you" is a brutal deathbed insult.

I listen to mostly rap, and what rock I do listen to is heavy metal. Im not really into ballads, but this song is fierce! It builds up perfectly. When he says, "Forever Free", at 2:04, its on! The guitar solo is crazy, the chorus is hypnotic, and the run out is so strong. The song has anguish and emotion pouring out of it. This song is real. Youre not going to hear anything like that on a Top 40 station.

3 years later, but I have an answer to that.
Once upon a time the music industry was ran and controlled by the musicians. Then big Corp took over, and all that matters is what sells, not what is good or real talent.
      Such a shame. 😔

    W.A.S.P. Forever Free lyrics
I ride all alone and can't see
    The road to nowhere anymore
And shadows whispers are calling me
To forbidden forests by the shore
And there she fell, deep in the night
One breath away from heavens light
And she said - don't cry for me I'm leaving you
The wind cries her name in the breeze
    But I can't hold her anymore /no, no, no/
Some fallen angel had come to me
And fell too heavy on my soul
And stole from me the love that I heard
Lords of time say never die
And she sad - don't cry for me, because I'll be
    Riding the wind forever free
High in the wind forever free
I'll ride the wind forever free
High in the wind forever free
Forever in my hearts a fire, a fire burning
I wake up nights and hear her crying, crying my name

I listen to power ballads when im sad, and black metal when im feeling complicated (hard to explain really what it means). This song and Wild Child are great songs that somehow remind me that theres nothing like a bit of action in life, which is pretty absent for me now. Enjoy the song people!

Ah… the 80s... when bands knew how to write songs. A good melody, some meaning words and lots of feeling… good musicianship would help, too. :-)
