mikeymegamega that was awesome this helped me so much more than the first tutorial. You've done it again
@ 48:00 Couldn't you, before flattening the image, just select everything and use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy all that is visible? Feels like you did some extra steps.
You could even hide that background before you do that so you don't have to remove it later.
MIKEY.IS.GOD.
that wonderful how you make so great thing with simple tool ! i work on paint tool sai , but that not even a probleme o_o ! those tips are... god gift ! ( i'm not a religious guy but that how i feel it )
Hey Mikey two questions.
1. Would I still need the pink shading (showing life) for darker skinned characters??
2. Would I be able to use the same tips in Wacom? Or would is it best to use photoshop??
Besides that your video was really helpful, thank you! 😄
Also, Cmd/Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to shave off an even further step!
I can't stop drawing sexy anime girls- they are my go to doodle when I'm brain dead in class- and I one hundred percent blame you Mikey.
Noa Lenora Art Lol your cm's must be excited?
You're not alone.
Mike thank you so much!!! now my experience in Shading, and use of different colors in photoshop grown💯🔥
Thanks for the tips Mikey! This was actually something I've been looking for all over UA-cam. Many videos are dedicated to explaining the process but they always seem to miss points I'd want to know such as what their brush settings are and what their mind set is when drawing. But you pretty much hit all of them. Thanks again!
Thanks Mikey for finally making a video on this.
Keep up the great work! This has absolutely gave me insight on how to go about doing digital colouring in my drawing journey, amazing tips thanks again for sharing mikeymegamega!
Mikey, I live for your totourals and tips videos. The way I like to draw is very similar to your style (obviously not exact) and I've learned a lot about your style. Your videos are so detailed and make so much sense, I've really improved since I started watching your channel and I can't thank you enough for your videos. I looove your art so much!
So glad that you've made this video around this time. I'm taking a graphics design class now so I'm very familiar with Photoshop along with Illustrator and inDesign. About a few months ago, this info would've just flown straight over my head. Thanks for all the tips!
How's it going bud? Come a long way or you changing hobbies?
HI MIKEY! KEEP UP THE GREAT ARTWORKS :) i love the fan arts!
I really enjoy this tutorial and it really helped me with finding out what exactly I wanted to do with my shading, along with how I wanted to shade. I just wasn't quite getting it right in my pieces though this really helped out a lot. I also love your accent and your off hand comments. Your accent combined with a "the hips do not lie" cracked me up. I love this.
Thanks a million Mikey! Been having a hard go at digital painting and after using these tips I was able to make something I was very satisfied with.
Thanks for sharing the tips doc. I've already started applying them to my own work and modeling them to fit and fill any needs I need.
Thanks for this tutorial. i REALLY needed, now i will try out on my draws, thanks again.
This tutorial came at a perfect time for me. As always, many thanks.
44:44 "we just gonna go and make that smaller and harder.... that is how we get this nice white spots" yep that is how it works.
Well it typically doesn't get smaller. They got a pill for that tho.
I love you. Thank you for existing. These tutorials are so helpful and they help keep my confidence from plummeting all the way to Tartarus. ❤❤❤
For the longest time I kept wondering what you were doing that gave your lineart that really like 'pop', thanks for sharing!
Super Done it step by step rly helpfull !! cheers man!
Your videos are truly amazing. Props
Mikey you always find a way to amaze me!

Thank you mikey, I used to be afraid of coloring in photoshop because I didn't know how to digitally paint. Now that I know how, I can't wait to get started. Your tutorials have really helped me grow in my art journey. Thank you mikey, I have improved because of you! No, I do not draw my girls "thicc" or with big breasts...

Thank you for this!!
I finally got my tablet to work today and you upload a video about the topic I am most interested in. This must be a sign from god
Working on my drawing skills currently, but with my career plans and school I don't have much time to myself to do most of the stuff I enjoy, but in the amount of time I've had to myself in the past I've picked up the skill to be able to create an identical drawing of a reference picture, it's still a little fuzzy and I'm still trying to find my own style of art (so I don't need to copy someone else's) but I know eventually I'll find it and when I do I can already say that all of your tutorials will help me out a ton if I ever need help on color, shading, values, etc.
best tutorial ever ^^ thanks !
cool,XD the music get me sleepy, xdd so relaxing
Gonna see whole video when i get back home from boring job for a surprise news and results as well 😋 and as a bonus to enjoy that drawing too

Thanks Mikey!

very good tutorial!
That color burn on line work is pretty damn nifty. Ill try that later.
Amazing!😱
It's finally here!
Finally a new tutoooooooooorial
I use a completely different method of coloring my images lately rather than make 20+ layers I try to condense it down to just 4 maybe 5 layers. I will admit however I will take notes of your tips and tricks when it comes to coloring because it really dose make your image pop out quite abit.
But usually I do the following (Abridged version so it dosen't eat the entire comment section)
1: Draw the Line Art layer ontop of the Sketched Image.
2: Add a new Layer under your line layer and make it your base color layer using the Magic wand to Select just the image and not the background, Use the paint bucket to fill in your colors, If colors bleed into other parts or into background it means theirs a gap so go back to your line layer and fill it in with black.
3: Add a Layer ontop of your Color layer, Change the Layer type to Multiply, Turn off your Color layer, add a White Background, Make your Pen a Grey Purple type and mark the areas where shadows would be with your pen, Use the Bucket after to fill in these areas,Turn Opacity to around 30%/20%, Turn Colors back on, Voahla Shadow Layer
4: Add a Layer between your Color and Shades Layer, Make this Layer Screen, Use the Eyedrop tool to get the color of the base color and add where Highlights would be, Repeat the Eyedrop for each Diffrent color area that has highlight.
5: Create a Layer between the Highlight and Base Color layer and select the Airbrush tool, make sure the Airbrush is very light and soft and very softly add a little red blush to your highlights on the skin (Can also add lighter toned colors for the highlights on the Clothing if its shiny)
Thanks Mikey.
Good video love it
Cool tips :)
Bummer luck ran out as soon as October ended XD well I'll stay for the next give away but not from patreon at the moment... Like the video btw great details and tips as always!
Great!❤️
Awesome video
Hey Mikey, thanks for the videos, your tutorials are great! Is there any chance that you'll make a video about folds on clothes someday?
veeryy VEEERYY goood!
Thank you so much!
Mikey,
This is a bit of a long one, but let me know if I need to better clarify.
A technique that I like to do for my shadows is use masking layers. Color the skin according to how the tone may change according to the light, but not to darken or lighten, but like how like on a pale white person, their skin will be a light peach, but then have some areas that look a bit more white, and some that look a bit more pink. Blend those colors as they would, if they would, or leave them as a hard cut off. But then use a black/dark grey mask over the image and fade it over where the shadows should be and darken more as needed. Then, if needed, do another mask but for light, using a bright white or off white mask, and do a similar thing there.
This is great for fading to black, keeps the coloring more accurate for various type of light colors (can even use more light layers to add more sources of light or create different effects with light, like to make something stand out is have it completely omitted from the rules of the shadow and/or light layer(s)), and can even be used for transparent/translucent objects (like if you know the object is 30% opaque but has spots where it overlaps, you can count the number of overlaps at a point, and make that object transparent using a mask on that spot of the image, then repeating till you have the same numbers of layers of the image to the layers of the object [I hope I am explaining this well]). Even combine the effects of light with translucent objects so you can more easily shine light through something like a stain glass. Even more advance is to take the altered light and pass it through another translucent object like even another colored glass and just giving the color effects of the glass their own light layer and letting the natural mixing effect of the masks create the color of light you should see when they mix (this also helps with not having to try to figure out the color, just have to figure out how well the light can go through.
I like using this even more when there are multiple objects at different depths and are illuminated differently; just have to remember to use more layers of light and/or shadow, and use less/more effect on the proper layers. Like someone could be in a picture and in 10% less light, so you put a mask over them for 10% shadow. But then further back there is a desk that is at 70% less light, so you put a mask over it of 60% shadow. Then you can blur them a bit by fading from one to the other over the objects where the lighting is changing gradients.
So many other uses for masking that I wish people would take more advantage of. They are harder to use at first, but long term, they help with so much and have a great pay out.
Of course you will need to add bits and clean up a bit like you do towards the end. Nothing's perfect, even when mastered or perfected.
Hey Mikey, to copy all layers there is a quicker way, Ctrl+A to select all, click on the top most layer you want to collapse, Ctrl+Shift+C should copy all layers from that layer down, and then Ctrl+V into another layer
thank you for teach us, please show us what tools in protools or another plataform you use usually for make illustrations. greetings from Chile.
Nothing like the rush of adrenaline when you see a MikeyMegaMega notification out of the corner of your eye.
Epicnesswithin I agree hahaha
Congratulations Mr. Broussard! Enjoy!
Keeping my fingers crossed for the tablet!!!🤞😊🤞

Dear Mikey, I really love your videos I'm a beginner and can I ask a favor when ur doing a tutorial in the torso can u to front view and straight pose? I will really help since the guidelines are tricky for me
great video
Awesome, Mikey! Please draw Lulu from Final Fantasy X
Ooooooh I thought the Gradient tool is only for backgrounds.. BUT NO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I hate shading skins! QwQ
brilliant
I mainly use Tool SAI for all my art work plus I don't have a tablet so all my work is done by mouse but these tips really help
Thanks Mikey, I do have a question. Is it possible to do a clipping mask with GIMP? Been able to replicate your coloring up to that point on my image and its helped a ton, made shading 100x faster
ctrl+alt+shift+e will flatten all visible, in a different layer, without having to merge and copy and go back.
Some people don't like smashing into new layers. (I actually duplicate all the visible layers, then smash them into each other.)
Could you make a more slow version of the separation of layers?
I got the idea for the skin tone, but I would like to see how you did the selection of the other layers that seem more complex
Great video! That meditative music though - I have the exact same track on my Spotify haha =) what are the odds
1. Congrats Mr. Broussard! I hope you make some awesome art with this! And thank you Mikey for the giveaway!
2. Your tutorials are always welcome, especially with Cindy involved (though I will shamelessly repeat my hopes to see you draw Seres Victoria and Jill Valentine)
3. I've been considering supporting a number of people on Patreon, and this will make me go over my budget yet again XD
4. Thanks again for all of the amazing tutorials and give-aways you do!
I'm also waiting for that Seras Victoria speedpaint ^^ but I will wait patiently :)
hey mikey, I really like your tutorials. I have a suggestion for you particularly pertaining to this style of coloring. I think the way you colored this would look better on a realistic type of character, and not one of the anime style. if I were you, I would have gone for a more cell shaded style when it comes to drawing people with more cartoonish and subrealistic features. it just tends to look better in my opinion. just my 2 cents. cheers!
this video really pop me out xD
Yeaaaah
Damn I lost..😂 no worries ... Waiting for next competition
SUBBED
This will be helpful. Very well presented. Thank you Mikey #hardcorecrew
