Strikeforce Post Fight: Ronda Rousey - 'If They Don't Tap, You Keep Going'

- It was another first round win for Ronda Rousey on Saturday night, but not without a battle with Miesha Tate first.
Rousey had to secure two different armbars to finally put Tate away, but the second one ended up dislocating her opponent's arm when she didn't tap out.
It appeared that the arm popped on two different occasions before Tate tapped, but should the referee have stepped in and stopped the fight sooner?
See what Ronda Rousey says about that and much much more after her spectacular win in Strikeforce Saturday night:
I love how everyone on youtube is a black belt in jiu jitsu
Pfft that's it? I happen to be also a navy seal, a doctor and a scientist.
asdf
woodyfly Lol
Felipe Massa i dont pretend to be any kindof expert but,Jiu JItsu as invented and prfeced as a combat ar not a sport, combat as in the field of batle with swords and spears and shit. It was meant to take down a person in full armor with weapons in hand, alot of the so called martial arts are adaptations for civilian life as a way to protect yourself. Not jiu jitsu-judo, it was intended from the start to do harm to the point of death with the minimal efort on your part(combat remember? Multiple opponents no time to take in the senery? That sort of thing.) if you know what you're doing chanses are your opponent will end injured if not permanently disabled.
yeah the comments are more pooTube than youTube
If you dont want a dislocated arm, you best tap. If not, its on you.
Ronda looks good in a hat😍😍😍😍😍
its amazing how stupid some of these comments are! if you don't tap then its your problem! people saying ''just hold it don't push it'' are you serious?! how do you win by sub if your opponent wont tap? and to the idiots going on about ''going till someone dies'' you have no idea about the sport or the rules! no tapping is exactly like not having your hands up, then saying ''omg I cant believe she punched her in the face when her hands wasn't up'' way to many idiots about please don't reproduce.
thanks ronda to have put judo in focus in the ufc , oss
I agree shes got a big mouth but fortunatey she can back it up i respect that
+Jackie J. I said this 3 years ago lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
@@steve1290r You should zip it from here on out
lol... Ronda is funny! she can be a comedian too...she is awesome!
I love this girl a real warrior!
Very well explained Ronda. Many people confuse sincerity and firmness with arrogance. It is not my case, I feel for you great respect and esteem.
Great fighter, great athlete and beautiful woman.
Ronda is and will always be my favorite
I read about it then I remember seeing a something on TV during one of the Spike UFC event things a while back.
So beautiful MMA...
vc é incrível...
I
a) you try to submit someone: get the hold and let go if the ref tells you to (or maybe if the ref is shit you let go after the arm broke or your opponent lost consciousness)
b) someone tries to submit you: if can't escape tap out before you get injured.
I really feel after watching the fight several times that she really just wanted to break someone's arm. It think they're both great athletes, but I want to see more from Tate in the next fight.
how? if the person doesn't tap that's their fault it's their own body & health
Nicholas Meyers Not her fault the ref didn't stop the fight.. Anyone with a fucking brain should be able to tell when the elbow is bent backwards, the fight should be stopped.
wow...u can see there at the end how much she misses her Dad...I can relate , I lost my father 2 years ago...a rough thing to deal with...
guess you need Showtime to see the fight
Sei bella con la coda Ronda!
That's the spirit :)
I agree with you it would be extremely difficult.
Skipping the roids-thing for a moment; Cyborg's major strength is striking. Ronda's major strength is on/to the ground/grappling. If cyborg gets a few (brutal) hits in it could be over, but if Ronda gets cyborg to the ground, I believe she has an edge. In fact, I think the *only* way to counter cyborg's striking would be an incredibly solid groundgame and well, Ronda certainly has that.
Would make for one hell of an exciting fight though ! :D
Laughing, eating trail mix, and watching The 5th Element? Debatably the best cyberpunk movie of all time? Why does she rock so much? Haha
@peaks888 I see your point. She said it in one of her interviews, about how women were not being vocal or showing any personality.I think she said she was the first woman to call out the champ after a win.Shes letting everyone know she wants it.A lot of pressure comes with the hype, but shes been handling it well.
It's sad that his comment has 71 votes up and yours only has 5 (including mine). Well said though. Very well said.
Here's the thing - I LOVE MMA - I do, I truly think it has it within itself to become the most exciting sport in the world. - I think this can beat soccer, basketball, baseball, the whole lot.
I just dont think it can with blood and broken arms.
i
@peaks888: She ended Miesha with an armbar because she wanted to. The fight was over when she had a full mount and Miesha gave her back.
Ronda is so damn cute
love you ronda!!
I LUV THIS GIRL SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ref did his job and so did the Champion.
I heard her on Joe Rogan's podcast, and she was talking about Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game". Someone on the podcast had mentioned something, and she asked if they had read Ender's Game. She's the perfect girl!
@peaks888 I get what you're saying now.The reason I think it won't hurt women's mma is because their side is still basically in the infancy stage. And the other fighters are gonna be definitely studying the hell out of her game now.So her fights will probably be more difficult, forcing her to use other skills.Sort of like Big Nog's old fights in Pride. And she is an undefeated champion who hasn't been out the 1st round. Then there's her Olympic background/looks/personality that makes her marketable
Rowdy Ronda vs Cat Allen Zingano is where it'll be at!!
i see what u mean but part of the art of MMA is about discipline and the will to push forward even when u are hurt (many fights have been won this way)
@Kingofdaheavyweights great point
lol at gene clapping
Nice
Thats for sure :) Looks like we'll have to wait a while for this fight to happen though.
I don't even think Cyborg even need steroids but I guess we`ll find that out as well.
And while we're at it can we please get Pacquiao and Mayweather on finally ??!!
so true
She looked like she wanted to cry when they asked her about Meisha. I don't blame her though. She probably didn't think she was going to break her arm.
Me Too Buddy
Who says they should stop it when they go to the ground?
"pinned down" = Put in a lock, armbar, kneebar, rear naked, w/e
where do you train?
@2:54
Compares rules of judo to MMA rules:"those are the rules that I am used to"?!.
Since when do fighters have right to transfer and apply the rules of their individual martial arts in Octagon?I also see great disconnect between fighter in winning submission position, opponent tapping out and judge confirming it as victory.AI get the feeling that many submissions are taken too far until judge rectifies it as win.I see lack in fighters to stop at right time but carrying on more than necessary.
snapin arms like slim jims
I dunno if anyone said it cause I'm a lil lazy. But one of my fave parts of this vid is Coker(?) backing her with perfect reasoning that I would 100'/. agree with. Also doing it on the fly. I wish some other major promoters could sound less like salesman robots and more this guy sometimes.
sounds like the women are much more articulate and respectful of there opponents from the small parts of wmma that i've seen. it's about the fighting i know but this is also good
I disagree - it's very easy to change the "rules" so that nobody's arm can be broken anymore.
One you could make it so that if you breaks someones arm, Regardless of circumstance, you can never fight again.
Referee's should be highly trained and hyper vigilant when it comes to arm bars, leg locks and chokes, and stop the fight as soon as someone is pinned down.
There is NO escaping a successfull arm or leglock - it can be held on the threshold of breaking and the ref should just call it quits
1:56 to 2:00 is soo cute. Rousey's face: ^_^
@sagatbalrog Thiago Alves almost weighed in at 200 lbs against Martin Kampmann and we know the result of that fight. Size and strength isn't everything
Kaufman came to fight, Rousey came to submit, all that talking and hype just for an armbar, if wouldve bought the thing on ppv i wouldve not been that pissed cuase kaufman and davis put on an awesome fight
King was 30 when she gave Bobby Riggs that huge case of Shut-Up-And-Get-Off-My-Tennis-Court back in 1973. And in case you don't remember, Bobby Riggs was an extremely sexist guy who bragged about how he women were inferior to men with regard to tennis. Needless to say, King proved him wrong where she was concerned; and he lost out on $100K.
Ronda kicks ass in MMA (Yeah! I said it!)! And though she beat Tate in another first round win, Tate made her earn it. Cant wait for 8.18.12 vs Kaufmann
Doing them wrong? A straight arm bar is designed to break the elbow if the opponent doesn't submit...looks to me like she was doing it exactly right.
@allexcosta I see what you mean about Royce but old UFC and todays mma is apples to oranges. I don't see either as being superior but more of who can implement their skills better. The game has evolved and its really all about the "mix" now.
i like her
Ronda tha best!!!!!!!!!!
LOL @ all the tough guys who think they could beat Rousey in a fight
I agree, that the ref should have stopped the fight.
@andyet1 wah?
Good win...you don't tap, you get snapped. What is Ronda supposed to go check...she just snapped her arm...no she's not alright lol
Just won the title, time to celebrate
First of all, I agree that the ref should have stopped it earlier. I also understand your concern but, in all honesty if you ask anyone who practices BJJ or Judo competitively they'd disagree with you. It's the other person's fault for not tapping. That's just common sense, if you're in a fight you can't give your opponent any mercy. It's just the mentality fighters should have and in the UFC they all do.
i'm totally with you, i would like to c them fight
all those punches took some ego away
Los Angeles, CA.TapouT training center but its only like a year old
@peaks888 I notice a lot of Canadians hating on the American Champ "Ronda Rousy" Are you Canadian? Ronda is the best. Deal with it.
Your right as of a year ago she was a white belt. She only has the Judo black. Man she was tossing that bjj black belt all over the place. Thought for sure she was already higher up. The Gracie belts do not come fast though.
She earned it won the title for hottest female fighter.
Yea.howd you hear about it.was it on tv or something?
No entendí nada de lo que dice, pero apuesto a que ella le ganará nuevamente a MT. He visto sus peleas y son realmente impresionante
@Frogger0neXx yeah that's the one...
15 people have had their arm broken!
shes hot and humble thats the kind of chick i need in my life big ups to you girl!
Unfortunately I don't see that happening. Cyborg is a wrecking machine.
@juji234 It's really hard to tell before the fighter taps. Maybe some people would have stopped the fight on the initial arm-bar, and robbed us all of a good fight
She represents Judo very well.
To all those that say woman are not as tough as men. Or as strong, i have this to say. If you are going to compare. Compare same weight classes.
more and more people need to incorporate some Judo in their MMA game. It's bad enough that Karo Parijan (SP?) got fired, so its tough to find Judo reps, let alone female ones
In a stick up, I believe Judo and Jujitsu are more effective than any striking Martial Art.
@juji234 Rev is not at fault,it is the fighters choice to tap. That is the rules of MMA.
i loved every min of that fight ....also alexis davis does'nt stand a chance!!!!!!
@sagatbalrog It was an open fracture dude. Her arm was showing outside of skin.
Yeah that may be true, but Rousey is just that type of person, she said she was many times. But I know perhaps if the tables were turned Miesha may have done the same thing who knows.
Look at how she is doing the armbars. She's doing them wrong on purpose to break their arms.
Roided Cyborg is her worst nightmare. Nonroided Cyborg is a toy for her.
@cplusplus84 Yeah she is very good at judo..She will have to work on tucking her chin and her strikes then she should be ok.
it's easy to say that behind a screen
@stllwtchngvds: I believe Cristiane's strength is her Muay Thai. That's where she's most comfortable. She doesn't have the precision of someone like Anderson Silva, though. Her chance against Rousey is to land a few hard punches and finish the fight quickly. Rousey most likely doesn't have a great chin. If they get close and clinch, I believe Cyborg doesn't have a chance. Ronda is way too technical and Cyborg won't have the strength advantage that winny gave to her.
@sagatbalrog you never watched it did you? dude her arm was snapped and skin folded. She was also screaming in pain. It's hard to watch again.
@stllwtchngvds: I can't provide any useful info that would change your mind. Well matched fights are unpredictable and that's what makes them interesting.
Having said that, I do believe Miesha is a better grappler than Cyborg and we saw what happened. Watch Carano x Cyborg again and you'll see that Carano had a full mount on Cyborg but didn't know what to do. If Gina can full mount Cyborg so can Ronda, but Ronda is an specialist.
@asasipogi Thanks I will go back to watching a real mixed martial artist I miss watching him control and beat up the fighters that constantly say they are going to beat the shit out of him it's fun watching Gsp control other fighters most of the time not taking any damage and delivering the punishment.
@stllwtchngvds: We all remember Royce winning over a bunch of strikers twice his size in the early UFCs. Today's MMA strikers have great defense to takedowns, but Rousey is on a completely different level of grappling being an olympian and Cyborgs ground game is not that great. I guess we'll have to wait until these two ladies meet in the cage and we all hope Cyborg comes clean this time.
a ronda vai leva um coro da ciborg
"Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like."
I would like to see Cyborg ( wait for it ) enter the mens UFC
ronda had a huge strength and size advantage. i bet she was atleast 10 pounds heavier than meisha. not a fair fight really.
@allexcosta Not because she wanted to because it's the only thing she knows that she is comfortable with doing. That is why I say she needs to evolve one day she is going to fight someone that she can't take down then what?
judo styles.... yeah!!! smoking hot champ.... what a fighter. i reckon i could defend ur arm bars hahaha
@FUdowfinFU sometimes the arm looks like its bending wrong way but realy its not. and some people are double jointed and able to bend more than others.
her workout regiment consists of making sandwiches and washing dishes, really fast.
