I'm slightly smaller than Ian. I aim for about 1000 production colonies and 3-500 nucs. I'm about 50 miles northeast of Ian, closer to winnipeg. IF you have a map of the USA, and you're going to pin it to the wall. I"m right where you'd put the pin.
Phil, just curious, I see on your uncapper you have three holes from The crossbar to the lug on your chain-link. Do you have issues with a light frame dropping in crooked and jamming? If so, what did you do to correct the situation?
This new uncapper has been nearly perfect since installation last month. The best way to avoid miss-feeds is to ensure there are several frames in the loading arms and that each frame has been separated from its neighbour so that burr combs don’t interfere with a clean drop.
@ Justin Landrum, No it is not, the uncapper works great for both. I jump back forth between the 2 all the time. There is guide to prevent the mediums from pushing backwards that will take about 30 seconds to install and probably less time to uninstall when you go back to deeps. My biggest issue is when some propolis builds up on the edges where the frames are going through, the frames will twist and jam if they do not drop straight at the beginning.
@@philbeeman Thanks Phil. I am only at about two barrels a year so I make do with paint strainer bags, straight into 5 gallon pails from the extractor. These are also great for filtering out junk from the wax when melting it down. I'm working my way up to your amount of production!
Phil, this little gurl when accelerate the centrifuge at 3:55 easily can break all fingers, have you thought about that? Is absolutely nuts. ☹ I see Steplers worker do the same...
Subscribed to you after watching Ian Steppler. He posted a video today stating you are his mentor . Cool channel you have here
That’s very kind of him to say so. He is a good beekeeper.
Thanks for the tour. Very nice system. Take care.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video. Your teaching is also informative
Thanks for your kind words.
What extraction line do you have? I saw a post about how flimsy the Alyson line was and I was pretty surprised at that.
I have a 60 frame cowen I have modified a few ways. I don't know much about the Lyson equipment but it is very pretty.
How many hives do you run? I follow Ian Steppler and he said to check you out so I’m new to your channel. Are you in Canada as well?

What pump are you using to move the honey to the separator?
I have a separate video on honey pumps.
👏👏
Thank you, ok.
What kind of honey is your main crop?
Canola

Why don't you work with a fork? What's the secret of your knives? Thank you!
I don’t understand the question about the “fork”. Try again.
Is it hard to jump back and for from deep to medium with the cowen?
Don’t know. Only use deeps. I know the Cowen guys asked me what boxes I used. So they can set the machine up for different gear.

How many boxes do you run through your cowen each year?
6k or so.
May I ask, is there one more filter towards the end that catches any remaining debris or do you sell it to the wholesaler who then filters it again?
Thats what the spin float is doing and ofc the settling tank
Bulk honey is filtered at the packer. Honey I sell myself is filtered through a cheesecloth.

I started small. Hang in there!

I think that is unlikely. I’ve been spinning extractors like that for 40 years.
Have you figured out how much honey you can extract per hour on average? My little home setup gets only 30 lbs per hr. LOL
My best day was 16 barrels in 8 hrs. That works out to 1200lbs/hr.
@@philbeeman That's rough on my ego. LOL My whole crop can be extracted in an hour. How was the moisture on your honey?
