I've seen many videos on various car repairs while working on my vehicles. This video was very helpful and to the point. No rambling on. Thank you very much!!
Thank you for posting this - I just completed this repair on my van. I have two pieces of advice for anyone else - definitely remove the 10mm bolt on the ac lines to give you a little more wiggle room, and remove the top covering the radiator/fan. This will give you a good place to get your arm in from the front to help stabilize & manipulate. Good luck!
Just watched this video and completed the same alternator replacement on my Sedona. I have a construction background but not much mechanical. This video helped so much. It really was easy like the title says. Took me about 1.5 hrs to complete.
*I'm gonna have to replace my alternator today with the help of my son. Kinda intimidated cause I'm not a mechanic but this video helps tremendously! Here we go! Wish me luck!😊
I just completed this job with the method described in this video. Is it possible? Yes, I was able to do it. Is it "easy?" NO, it is not! It did save time avoiding the hassle of removing the cooling fan, housing, and some plastic pieces. But, maneuvering the alternator out of the mounting area, then maneuvering it into the mounting area took patience and a good bit of trial-and-error positioning. I appreciate the video, and it did work, but "easy" is not a word that I would have used my friend. I did "like" the video because of all of the hard work that went into it. I would caution home mechanics to be very careful and patient because you run the risk of damaging your power connector rubber boot and terminal connector plastic shield if you get too rough with removing the alternator.
Connector with rubber boot should be removed before trying to take out alternator and connector, who care if damaged, you're putting in a new one and when it gets remanufactored it gets replaced anyhow.
Kudos on this post ! Saved me a TON of time. Took a few gymnastics to get the old one out, but the hardest part of putting the new one in was the serpentine belt. All told took about 2 hours to complete. You are the man !! Many, many thanks.
Thank you so much for posting this, and taking so much time to carefully explain everything. I had to rescue my mother as her car flashed all its dash lights and cut off while she was driving. I had previously charged her battery as we thought it had just drained because of lights or something. Started and drove more or less fine until it cut out. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I hate these "sideways" fwd engines. Thanks to your explanations, I feel so much better about the job.
Thank you so much! I’m a house wife that has know clue, and this video was so detailed it saved me money! Your awesome keep up with the videos! After awhile maybe you can higher me lmao! Thanks again
Perfect video!! Really good camera angles specific detail on placement of tools, good timing and video edit from scene to scene, really appreciate it my man keep up the great work 2021 may be looking bright yet!!
I love how descriptive you were during this video and how you showed everything you were doing step by step. You make this look so easy. I originally was just watching to see how difficult it is to change but after seeing your video, I feel like I can do this job myself. So off I go to try to complete this on my own. Thank you so much! I'll be looking at your channel to see if you have a video on it for any job I need to do from here on out.
You are awesome! Thank you. Great video. I was intimidated at first because it look like there was no room to remove it and I didn’t feel like removing my radiator
October 2021 and you came in clutch!!! Getting it back in was a workout but your instructions made it easy as possible. 2 hours in and out. THANK YOU!!!
This is the fourth video that jokes about the oil probably ruining the thing. Mine is also full of crud. I plan to improvise a thin sheet metal cover to minimize that. Thanks for the video.
Curious to see just how that will work. Make us a video and let us know. (this is such a widespread problem with these Sedona's) Di you already isolate just where the oil is coming from? (valve cover and/or timing cover ?)
@@hugh3rdof5 @hugh3rdof5 I'm sorry I missed your msg, Guys. Yes. I took some 2 mil sheet metal and tried to use /cut it to cover over the unit. Thanks for all of the specifics, especially the size of the nuts/ bolts. I will definitely be reviewing this when I have a day to replace my alternator. The last alternator I did was a little less intimidating to get out but after watching this, I know I can do this.
Thanks for the knowledge, take the gift our Creator has given you to help others,,,thanks all the way from Rose City Tyler East Texas... you just taught me something... bless up and may the blessings of our Creator be upon you and your family...
I did this on my 2012 Sedona. The connection was in a different position and was easy to remove while the alternator was in position. It was really tightly wedged in place. After removing the mounting bolts, it was necessary to use two large pry bars to remove the alternator.
2015 Sedona does NOT have room to easily pull the old one out or to place new one in. AC hoses are in the way and there’s way less space between the frame. Sux for us 2015 owners.
Really helpful, thank you! Easy way indeed! (so much utter nonsense out there by long-winded idiots wanting to take off front end and/or side wheel) One tip for fellow DIY'rs.... make sure you do the connections to the back of the new alternator BEFORE you mount it. (I didn't, and what a pain!) Separately, astonishing how bad the videos are out there for just changing/putting back on the serpentine belt! (do one of them too)
next project for me is finding chronic oil leak and fixing. I already did the infamous front valve cover gasket two years ago. Next up the horrendous backside valve cover gasket (and will change plugs & such while there). But I'm suspecting I'll have to deal with an even more challenging leak -- from the "timing cover" area. (no videos anywhere for that mess -- afaik)
Nice to know I don’t have to remove the fan. Gonna start mine tonight. Now I’m guessing I’m gonna need a valve cover gasket video... seems to be the common cause of alt death.
I have ordered the part and planning to replace it soon. Wonder whats the torque specs for mounting bolts and for the pulley?? Thanks for the great video.
Did you fix the oil leak from the valve cover? That was the cause of your alternator failure (and mine) so if you don't, you get to replace it again next year.
If u prefer a mechanic to do this for u…What should be ur charged range for such labor ?And what should be ur charged labor to do both, taking the alternator off then back on ?
Here in Winnipeg I had an alternator replaced in my 2006 Kia Sedona for about $800 , consider that the alternator at a auto parts store is about $300 with the core charge , $80 refundable when you return your old alternator ,
Good job a lot of people will benefit But mine is different Nissan x trial sr20 turbo the engine blocked by it's self because of old oil not to change What do you think if I wash it with detergent then I put new oil will it OK?
Do you happen to have a video on how to put the alternator back in? Got everything out, just struggling to fit it back in. Also, the plastic protector tube thing for the wires on the plug that goes in the back of the alternator is a little damaged about 1 1/2” down...is that something I can or should put electrical tape on?
The process of removing would be not much complicated but the the process of installing the alternator will not be easy at all without taking off the cooling fan radiator because you'll need to push and line up the alternator hole and that is tight space.
I had a wire running down towards the power steering pump that was connected to both the positive and the connector for the alternator so when i pulled it up to unplug anything it ripped the wire out of the connector
The video was thorough in the beginning , but no reinstallation of it. I had it hooked up and in the bottom of the open slot-track, but had problems completely closing because the holes wouldn't line up, because it wouldn't budge or give any further . The hole distance for alignment is off 1 inch. Has anyone had this problem maybe with advice?
Would of really helped if the year was put out there first. On a 2012 , the motor mount comes out and motor is tilted up and alternator is pulled up and out after removing radiator hose.
