    Oh my gosh, Michelle, it is terrific to see you so happy! The garden looks, as Tony the TIger would say, "Grrrrrrrreat!" Asters are good food for the monarchs as they migrate down to Mexico. I've had five monarchs on one plant. So you are still helping them! :)

      I agree with these comments. You did great! I’m in Zone 7 NJ clay soil, shade. I enjoy seeing sunny gardens even though I cant copy Starter works great. Now I think I’ll try snapshot. At 75 I am slowing down with weeding thanks for the tip. Michelle, thanks 😊

    It's the best when the design you envision becomes reality and you love it. Happy for you! Love the color pop of your Veronica drift and the Penstemon will be absolutely lovely when it fills in.

    Wow! That was great and fits my situation so well here in Iowa. I have clay soil on the south side of the house and always fret about what I can grow there. So much inspiration!!! Thank you!!!

    I think it's going to look beautiful for several years. Yeah! My dear husband bought me an auger in three different sizes to use in this clay soil. They fit right into his drill and it makes things so much easier. You do have to get down close to the soil, it doesn't have a rod on it so you can stand up. Those type are out of our price range.

    Your enthusiasm makes these videos delightful as well as informative. Ah, the gingko tree, what a magnificent tree with almost neon yellow leaves come fall. Avoiding the female ones is wise as the fruits have a definite order. The Proven Winner spirea bushes is fabulous news due to color, size. Yup, this garden will be spectacular in a couple of years with the maintenance decreasing. Well done.

    Michelle, I mulch with Espoma land and sea compost. The next year my soil improved dramatically.

    • @gardeningTLC
      @gardeningTLC  Місяць тому +1

      I would love to do that, but alas, that stuff is pricy, and I have way too much sq. footage to cover. But I do like the idea of composting vs mulching...it is about finding a product that is more small mulch than fine dirt, and one that won't break the bank.

    It’s funny 😆 to me how the Different content creators suggest doing the opposite. I’ve heard some say put the synthetic fertilizers in the hole. And some say Biotone is like sprinkling money in the ground because it’s not necessary. I like to hear what everyone has to say and then develop a “best practice” for myself through trial and error.

  • @noracomeau2986
    @noracomeau2986 Місяць тому

    It looks great, Michelle. But, I'm not sure if I heard you telling us what the sun exposure is in this bed. I thought most of your plant selections require full sun, but I noticed the boxwood & hostas...

    • @gardeningTLC
      @gardeningTLC  Місяць тому

      It gets full morning sun...as the sun travels over the house, the hostas get shade....boxwoods will grow in sun or shade. So some of it gets 6 hours and some, further out, gets 8-9 hours. Very little of it gets blazing hot afternoon sun...maybe the farthest edges get a little.

      The best time to prune spirea is after flowering or early spring.

    What do you think about gypsum to break up clay soil?

    • @gardeningTLC
      @gardeningTLC  Місяць тому +1

      I think the area was too large, and it would have cost me probably 800 bucks to add it. And I did not want to wait for it to work......months...and it is not always a 1 and done......
