I love content like this, as it rejuvenates my love for MTL. Living here, you get caught up with the bullshit and sometimes forget to appreciate the things that make it great. And the eating experience is one of those things.
I'm a stand up comedian here in Montreal and a food lover, watching you on tik tok and on youtube is like a 2 in 1 for me, love your humor no bullshit and your love of the food and people. Happy for all the good things that are happening for you.
I went to Montreal last summer during my first visit to Canada and then again this summer for the F1 race. Both times, the food, cocktail and party scene blew my mind away! My buddy from SF who had tagged along with me was equally impressed! MTL is a gem!
I remember going to Paris for my first time...and friends of mine living in Toronto told me that the food in PARIS will knock me out. I'm from Montreal and never realized how delicious the food tasted in Montreal until I went to Paris. I have been to Paris many times since then and Montreal is by far the best quality and tasty food in restaurants over Paris. Even a simple hot dog is prepared in 3 different ways.
Omg I just went to Paris for the first time and I thought I would be amazed by their cuisine and… well. I had wayyyy better in Montreal 🥲 I was disappointed but at the same time as I live in Montreal it makes me appreciate my city even more! I’m quite glad to know I’m not the only one that had the same reaction 😛
Bro, you lived in New England your whole life without crossing the border to visit one of the vibyest, coolest, chillest, tastyest city in the world? At this point just move here before you let your whole life go to waste !
Come!! Unless you LOVE winter or cooler temperatures in general I'd recommend coming at some point from May through to October. If you do love winter, December and January are magical here. Don't come during Feb or March, we Montrealers don't even want to be here during those two months 🤣
Being from Montreal, I never realized how good the food was here up until I started travelling. I still haven't found a place in North AND South America that can even challenge Montreal besides NYC and LA.
As a food scene, i feel the same. As, does Montreal HAVE good food, i wouldnt say. I feel that the mix of people here has make wonders, but theres countries with way better and perfected recipes, but, without variety, Like gnoccis from italy cant compare, or ceviche in Peru.
Every time I visit montreal it's just one long food tour of the city. There's just so much amazing food at extremely affordable prices just about everywhere you wind up walking. Great city!
I wish this came out a few weeks ago when I went up! But I still ate incredibly well, as I always have whenever I visit. Montreal is absolutely underrated... anyways 10 outta 10, would visit again
I, too, come from the Deep South, and I can tell you firsthand that Montreal is worth the visit. You can’t hit everything that city has to offer. You can’t even hit it all if you live there. It’s that packed with good stuff.
Montreal is a UNESCO design city like Berlin . Known world wild for food , best chefs, world keader in creative cuisine . Montreal ranks # 1 in the world for sustainibility , the greenest city in CAnada and thetop best biking city in north america according to Copenhagen biking index. Montreal has the 2 nd highest number of restaurants per capita after NYC .... Montreal is the canadian capital of culture, history , food, design, fashion and best night life . Summer is very hot but fun with festivals , pedestrians streets and best night life in Canada
Fuck yeah, this is exactly what I've been hoping to see with your new ventures. I'm all about it. I haven't been up there in over a decade and its killing me. I hope to hear more of what the deal is with how you approach your ratings--maybe best not to reveal that to us yet, though. I'm not a mathemagician, but I get the vibe that it's like... a dish that tries to be this or that, and ends up this or that, for x price, with x situation, and X factor = X/10. I have infinite things to say if you ever come to Boston. ❤ what you do, Chef.
I LOVE these videos. So much so, I play them on my 55" TV instead of just my phone or laptop. It deserves a big screen. I have sadly never been to Montreal, but I just told my wife that we are doing. Period. You win. lol
I’m so blessed to have grown up and still live in Montreal. Orange Julep (until it went 12/365 in the 80s) would open around Easter for the season. It was us kids spring ritual, a rite of passage to bicycle on the private CN roads alongside the rail tracks for a quick ride from CSL to OJs (IYKYK). St. Viateur bagel i have been to thousands of times. Impossible to get a piping hot dozen & except every one to make it on the 15 minute ride home. Not to mention the seats covered in sesame seeds. I discovered Olive & Gourmando over 20 years ago & they catered office functions for offsite meetings in my previous life. My office ate well. If I’m in old mtl and the line isn’t out the door I’ll stop. So glad you ❤️ my city & you didn’t sugarcoat what also sucks. 🚧
as someone that lives 2h ish away in Burlington, Montreal is always a fun trip, some of the best sit-down Chinese food I’ve ever had is from 31 Latitude on Saint Laurent Blvd, hit that shit up next time you’re in town
All I can say is You Da man. You get it, like we get it. One thing about Montreal food is that we are so sophisticated that very few average or bad restaurants survive, whattever the style or price point, and ethnic' foods proliferate, and are generally extremely authentic, you can travel the world here on your stomach. I no longer live here and visit once a year, and am constantly amazed. I do my favourites, and discover a bunch of new places each time, and am rarely if ever disappointed by a meal overall. And every visit I get my mind blown, and as I'm a retired chef who has traveled the world and worked in over 10 countries, that should, maybe, say something. From street and 'junk' food to home style Greek, Québecois, South America, to Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Italian, and fine dining, Michelin star,, Cuisine du Marché, snacks, bakeries, pastries, cocktail bar, Lebanese and Syrian, Spanish, etc., Montreal delivers, and the ambiance and friendliness is off the charts. A bargain, too, if you make a Montreal salary or come from a place with a stronger currency or if you're loaded. Thanks !
Dude! So stoked you made the jump to yt. Been trying to get my brother to check out your content but he refuses to do the tik Tok thing. Grew up in Mtl. Moved away 25 yrs ago but still miss the food. Don’t miss the politics, but it was the Mecca for good cheap food in Canada for sure.
Hoping you see this 🤞 If you have spare time, you should do a review of Québec city since you did Montréal. There’s like a small rivalry between the two cities. Québec is smaller though it’s still the second largest city in the province after MTL. At this time of the year, the city is beautiful with the snow and all. There is incredible restaurants. I’m a big fan of small place with a good vibe and where your waiters is not always running around cause he has like 32 tables. So to name a few: - patente et machin - l’affaire est ketchup - Albacore - kraken cru - Chez Tao - Hono Izakaya - Hono Ramen - la buvette Scott - sardines If you walk fast enough, you’ll be able to get by all of these in… say 3h top.
Have watched this - and every other Short and vid - several times in the past year. But after rewatching today I booked a mid-week September foodie adventure. Thanks for the Chef Reaction "fuck my shit up" Montreal nudge.
Great content as usual Chef! Who is your camera person? Also, any discomfort you're feeling is not showing up on camera unless it's just really helping the monotone and surly vibe. You're doing great!
Solid list, I would recommend Jardin de Panos in the Plateau for some good authentic greek food. Montreal might have the best food per dollar on earth.
Check out Fairmont bagels, the other historic bagel place in the same neighborhood. Many prefer them to St Viateur. And for both, eat them right away, because they will go hard after a day.
Great video. BTW ‘bouffe’ is French slang for food, and the verb ‘bouffer’ is ‘to eat to your heart’s content’, with the connotation of indulging in hearty, greasy comfort food. IOW it’s not gastronomic fare, rather homemade, delicious and burp-producing stuff (like corn dogs, poutine or méchoui).
Hey @Chef Reactions I'm curious to know what your "regular" spots are in Montreal as you had mentioned near the beginning of the video. I'm hoping to visit soon and I'm curious to know the spots that you didn't mention in this video that you consider good enough to visit every time you go there.
I have a genuine question for chefs, or line cooks, or anyone BOH... Is there a fast hand sanitizing method besides watching with soap and water when you're working a line? I've always thought that it takes an inordinate amount of time prepping everything while having to wash your hands in between. This is just a question out of curiosity, nothing more.
As foodie from Montreal, here are my recommendations: Estiatorio Milos Reuben's Deli & Steakhouse Rôtisserie Panama Ma Poule Mouillée Philinos Restaurant Beatrice Mythos Ouzeri Restaurant Bonaparte Resto SSAM
Winter is not minus 30 Celsius it can happen but mostly around -10* C average which is around 14*F that’s in January and February For someone from the south it still very cold
You love Montreal for basically all the reasons I love it. It's such a chill city. Highly recommend trying Pizza Il Focolaio next time you're there for lunch. The place is always busy and the pizza is tasty. Come to Toronto sometime for a food tour - Montreal it ain't but I think you'd like it.
Man, my ex is from Montreal and there was a time I used to go every other weekend. I even worked in the South Shore for a while. Never tried that orange julep. Gotta give it a go.
Most impressed that you use the correct pronunciation of "Mun-treal" as opposed to the way all tourists pronounce it as "MON-treal", lol. I suspect you must know some local Montreal chefs that taught you well, 🙂Cheers.
Ten outta ten. I’d watch the whole thing.
Bourdain can never be replaced but this guy has my vote.
someone needs to give you a full production budget so you can keep this series going around the world
Conan + Chef Reactions mashup? 😅
Seriously!!!
He’s repped by WMA. They better get on the ball!
Osaka, next up! You will looooooove it.
right???? It's got Tastemade channel or something similar written all over it. Although the lack of F-bombs would be weird. haha.
Really love the no bullshit no filler layout.
thank you
I love content like this, as it rejuvenates my love for MTL. Living here, you get caught up with the bullshit and sometimes forget to appreciate the things that make it great. And the eating experience is one of those things.
Wholly agree. We are lucky to live here and it's nice to have reminders like this!
100% agree
well said!
I'm a stand up comedian here in Montreal and a food lover, watching you on tik tok and on youtube is like a 2 in 1 for me, love your humor no bullshit and your love of the food and people. Happy for all the good things that are happening for you.
Aye salut Ben!!!
I went to Montreal last summer during my first visit to Canada and then again this summer for the F1 race. Both times, the food, cocktail and party scene blew my mind away! My buddy from SF who had tagged along with me was equally impressed! MTL is a gem!
don't tell anyone it has a SF vibe. people will move here and we already in a housing crisis
An sf vibe is not a popular vibe right now lol, sf is still nice in 35% of the city, both cities are incredible expensive unfortunately
as someone from sf i agree with your statement. i live in nyc and would move to MTL before i ever move back to SF@@brandoncarpenter9681

As a life-long New England resident within a reasonable drive of Montreal, you’ve sold me, adding it to the list 🙌🏼
Bro, you lived in New England your whole life without crossing the border to visit one of the vibyest, coolest, chillest, tastyest city in the world? At this point just move here before you let your whole life go to waste !
Come on down my friend! T'es le bienvenu!😊
it's like going to europe but with your car, worth the visit
I love Montreal. I pretty much spent every weekend there in the mid 80’s. This brought back some good memories. And I agree about the bagels!
I’ve honestly wanted to visit Montreal for years
Come!! Unless you LOVE winter or cooler temperatures in general I'd recommend coming at some point from May through to October. If you do love winter, December and January are magical here. Don't come during Feb or March, we Montrealers don't even want to be here during those two months 🤣
1000% worth it. Wonderful city, recommend coming for a week+ and really settling in
Being from Montreal, I never realized how good the food was here up until I started travelling. I still haven't found a place in North AND South America that can even challenge Montreal besides NYC and LA.
Try Dallas!
As a food scene, i feel the same. As, does Montreal HAVE good food, i wouldnt say. I feel that the mix of people here has make wonders, but theres countries with way better and perfected recipes, but, without variety, Like gnoccis from italy cant compare, or ceviche in Peru.
It's crazy, any 100% must try's? (planning on going back sometime).
Wow. My kind of travel guide! Can't wait for your trip to New York!
thanks. leaving tomorrow
Thank you so much for shining a light on the wonderful city of Montreal. I’m really missing it right now.
Every time I visit montreal it's just one long food tour of the city. There's just so much amazing food at extremely affordable prices just about everywhere you wind up walking. Great city!
2 seasons; winter and construction
😂🤣
zero lies detected, if the snow is gone, the trucks are working overtime
That's all of Canada😂
I wish this came out a few weeks ago when I went up! But I still ate incredibly well, as I always have whenever I visit. Montreal is absolutely underrated... anyways 10 outta 10, would visit again
Next time!
👍👍👍 for St Viateur bagels!!!!!
ETA: A local grocery store (Greater Toronto Area) is now carrying St. Viateur bagels!!!!!
Best travel and food content i’ve seen lately. 10 outta 10.
Coming from.the deep south, I never would have considered Montreal a food city. Great review
now you know

It’s one of the world’s great gastronomic cities. There’s a reason Bourdain loved it.

Fun fact: Montreal is the second-worst winter city that I have ever experienced. It is just fucking bonkers. Reykjavik beats it out, but fuuuuuuuu--

I used to live in Montreal, and I miss how you can fall ass backwards into a damn good restaurant without ever touching Google.
15 years as a chef in MTL and I am 100% down with these ratings and this list. Well done chef, looks like you enjoyed overall. Come back anytime.
Next time you're around I would recommend Joe beef and Chez Claudette!
Love Joe beef. Wanted to go to places I mostly hadn’t been before.

Maison Publique is by far my favorite restaurant in Montreal, you should try it.
Sadly, Derek announced on Instagram earlier this week that Maison Publique will close permanently on September 16… 😢
@@stephaneethier It's so bizarre, the place was always full.
I miss Montreal. Went there several times to visit friends. I hear Reuben's isn't as good since they went mainstream.
You right on that. Use to love Reuben's! Went last December it was not that great! A shame must have lost good people during the pandemic.
Most impressed that you use the correct pronunciation of "Mun-treal" as opposed to the way all tourists pronounce it as "MON-treal", lol. I suspect you must know some local Montreal chefs that taught you well, 🙂Cheers.
Next time you're in Montreal, check out a spot called Doubles Late Night
I knew the shoes would be mint.... you could just tell
Im from Mtl. Been to Ottawa, TO and Calgary and so far i can saynthat Mtl has the best tables.
Bouffe moi = Eat me.
Glad you had good weather ! So, when are you going to go to Alaska?
10 outta 10. You don't disappoint.
I agree give Chef a TV show
Schwartz's smoked meat? 🙂
What’s the usual list of places for mtl?
Love your videos!
Try Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. You will be surprised
Next time, go to:
Le Diplomate
Pichai
La belle Tonkinoise
Sushi Momo
Umami Ramen
Btw, those corn dogs were vegan. ✌️
plenty of construction in winter, so yeah, just one season
