    How will SpaceX manage to have the same Starship and Super Heavy system no matter where they launch? How will they unite Land and Sea based launches? And how will the orbital launch sound suppression system work? Let’s find out!

    Draw works are amazing machines. They can lift immense weights very quickly and stop on a dime (so to speak). They have to hold tens of thousands of feet of thick steel tubing hanging gently millimeters above the bottom of an oil well being drilled, while lowering the whole thing slowly enough to keep the drill bit gently touching the bottom as it chews away at the rock (if there is too much pressure down, the drill bit bogs down and can break). Then it lifts the whole drilling column a bit, so the column can be hung from the edge of the well, while a new section (called in the industry a 'joint') of pipe is added between the hung drilling column and the top drive (the motor that spins the drilling column). All that, and it can pull the whole drilling column up ('tripping', as it is said), stopping at every joint to remove them, just so the drill bit can be brought up to the surface (to change it for a new, sharp one - or a smaller diameter one - wells are drilled large at the top, with diminishing diameters towards the bottom).
    In short, they pull insane weights with amazing control, capable of stopping and holding thousands of tons with great accuracy.

    Regarding the Yellow Win95 assembly...
    I used to work in a shipyard where we built Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered ships.
    This kind of sharp angle is usually included to absorb the sudden contraction of cryogenic fluids. You can't design a sliding seal that will work under those conditions so adding a sharp diverted section allows to concentrate that movement in a single place instead of having the pipe break out of it's holding structure at the risk of failure.
    It is for instance quite common in LNG emergency valve divertion.

    • @Whataboutit
      @Whataboutit  3 роки тому +13

      That sounds interesting! Could you maybe send me an email to whataboutit.contact@gmail.com to explain in detail?

    • @philipgrice1026
      @philipgrice1026 3 роки тому +1

      Good thinking but I don't agree in this case. Putting shock bends in pipelines is common. In fact you might have some in any long water pipes in your home. But they don't use bends greater than 90 degrees. The sharp angle we can see in the video would be a stress concentration point and be likely to break, creating a worse problem.
      I'm thinking the yellow structure(s) might be part of the booster catching mechanism that will be mounted to the tower. They could fold back when not required. Necessity is the mother of invention and catching a huge rocket booster is going to require the mother of a solution. Hold onto your seats.

    • @brunoethier896
      @brunoethier896 3 роки тому +1

      @@architgupta4883 No, it would complicate things needlessly to spill cryogenic liquids everywhere.
      It's the fact that a liquid is sprayed that dampens the vibrations somewhat, not the nature of the liquid. Might as well use the cheapest, simplest and least likely to cause problems.

    Orange thick wall tubing looks to be part of the boom-arms for the catch system and servicing from the launch tower.

    More accurately, BN2.1 simulates the forward and aft sections of a Superheavy. The top dome is a forward dome, not a common dome.

    Another update - what appears to be a hot gas thruster for BN2 has been spotted by NSF. Wohoooooo. 🚀

      If it is indeed is a hot gas thrusters then this is perhaps one of the largest technological leap of the entire program

    If I am not mistaken(I probably am though), the current pipe configuration is close to matching the extra foundation we've seen--

    The yellow pipes could be used to make a lifting arm to go on top of the launch tower to lift starship and super heavy onto launch mount

  • @adrianmoore2149
    @adrianmoore2149 3 роки тому +2

    Yellow pipes are likely for a custom crane design that sits on the top for lifting and catching the booster.

    12:45: That's a lot of water pouring down, where is it going?

    • @Whataboutit
      @Whataboutit  3 роки тому +8

      Draining system. That would be the normal approach. I wouldn't be surprised though, if SpaceX just makes it magically disappear though...

      @sirbobbyuk 3 роки тому +4

      @@Whataboutit LOL, a bit of magic goes a long way. Your right about the drainage system, that would be the first thing i would have built before building the launch pad.

    • @StephenMattison66
      @StephenMattison66 3 роки тому +3

      Most/much of it will flash into steam & vapor. Will be fresh water so I wouldn't be surprised if drainage system strains remaining water & pumps it back up into the holding tank, ready for next launch at 2pm. haha #goelon
