If you walk into an American store and the salesperson says how can I help you, you can simply say, "I'm just browsing," and they'll leave you be. They'll probably say something like, "Just let me know if you need anything."
Thing is, people often go into a shop looking for something in particular, or some "type" of thing. So sometimes if they ask if they can help you, it gives you the chance to say "Yes, where are the scented candles?" or whatever, so you don't have to wander the store for 10 minutes hunting them down. But if you don't need help, just say so. It's fine.

The state patrol here periodically has sting operations where they have a minor with their actual ID go into businesses that sell alcohol (liquor stores, bars, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, everywhere) to see how diligently places are checking IDs. Not only does the business get fined and risk losing their license to sell alcohol if they sell to the minor helping the cops, but the employee that sold the booze receives a massive fine as well (and probably lose their job). The biggest argument against tipping is because a lot of states have tipped minimum wage that are literally only $2 or $3 dollars so all the server makes is whatever they make in tips. Restaurants are suppose to fill the gap between tipped minimum wage and federal minimum wage if the tips don't cover that amount, but often that doesn't actually happen.

At the high school I work at.. we have 4 sets of flag poles. In the front of the school are the main 3.. highest center is always the US flag. The pole on the right has the North Carolina flag. The pole on the left has the school's flag. This is repeated at the football, baseball, softball, & tennis court.

Also some cities or counties do not allow Walmart to be open 24 hours so those locations do close at night. In California it was pretty common for them to close at 10pm but they were also mostly Walmarts and not Walmart Supercenters. Which means they had very little to no groceries. At least it was that way when I lived there 15+ years ago. California and the grocery union in California have done a good job at keeping massive Walmarts out of the state to try and keep grocery stores in business. It is kinda weird.

When I first came to Boston in 1980, a pizza restaurant named "Ruggles English Cheddar Pizza" opened up on Washington St. at "Downtown Crossing". This was a deep dish pizza with liquefied cheddar cheese. The flavor was incredible and made quite a meal. They closed by the end of the decade though. Also there was a hot dog stand with "chile/cheese dogs, with red kidney beans, green chilis and cheese squirted on the hot dogs the same as ketchup and mustard if desired.
