This race for me was the best so far this year, that final, awesome, never see any final lake that one, congrats to M.V.D.P.👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thanks a lot GNC good luck in your chanal See you later 👋 👋
Honestly, I was disappointed to see Pogacar fail to sprint it out with MVDP, but I have a feeling this will be a catalyst for an already dominant rider so I am excited to see him make up for it in the future!
I was lucky enough to spend the whole day on Ronde van Vlaanderen Straat (again) and this year able to remember it all. It's the best place in the world to be for de Ronde. And we were treated to two fantastic races. As a Brit, I have to give my motm awards to Fred Wright and Anna Henderson...but it was such a beautiful day. Thank you riders, organisers, helpers, fans and most of all, thank you Belgium. I love you all. Ps who the f.. is Tommy Lekkerband? 🤣
I come from the home town of Valentin Madouas, so he was my favorite. And I was impressed by the team performance of Groupama FDG, Kung, Le Gac, Geniets and Madouas were everywhere they had to.
My friends in Belgium sent of the headline for the local newspaper..."Pogacar...First man in history to finish 4th in a two man sprint!" What a great race!
How did they win Tour of Flanders Well in MVdP case ,by doing nearly 425 watts for that last 2hrs and 1300 watts in the sprint after 6 + hrs of racing , mind blowing
When did he say that? He won 2 out of 3 finishes. He was asked if he was scared before the finish and he replied that no, he wasn't scared, because he'd been there twice before.
Thanks Dan and GCN for the analysis and Flanders documentary. I saw MVDP's fuelling strategy on his stem notes in another video. Perhaps the difference between last year's 2nd place?
Amazing analisis. Thank you! Just one thing to add, it's VanBaarle's master move after the Paterberg and before de Koppenberg. But you know what? He is doing the same move every year since 2016. He did't last year because Pidkoc, his teamate, did before him, but the other 6 (2016-17-18-19-20-22) he did it and well done it. Better or not that much, always with some advantage to start the climb. It's amazing. I was checking the videos and it's like he is always the first going in to the Koppenberg. He is a master reading the race. Congrats to hin. And of course to you all GCN team.
Hi Mike. I did know that, but only because Luke Rowe text Adam Blythe to mention it on Sunday. It's also the place I attacked in 2009, but with much less success! Dan
@@mmartijn78 the mistake that got him out of the podium. Everybody knew the winner when it came to the sprint, I bet not many predicted Pogacar would be anything other than 2nd place.
@@mmartijn78 His only chance to win was a long sprint, we all seen MvdP blow up the last meters of last years sprint. And Even if he would have lost the sprint he would be 2nd. not 4th.
I think it was a bit harsh to not mention Mads Pedersen at all, a big part of the first move and still only loosing 50 meters on the koppenberg. He was a big part of creating the race and was 3rd or 4th strongest after TD, MVDP and maybe madouas.
MVDP is currently the greatest Tour of Flanders racer in the world among the elite men. This race went almost exactly how I thought it would. Pogicar was impressive, and probably would have won, if MVDP wasn’t there, but there was no way that MVDP was going to be out ridden by anyone racing today, including WVA. WVA is a superb racer and a better overall rider than MVDP, but MVDP was built for this race from head to toe.
That was tremendous analysis on two superb races. Interesting that both races were kind of similar - very small sprints. Also, MvDP's half hour power is a sickening amount higher than my 60 second interval training...
SD Worx are almost hiding their numbers in all those nation champion jerseys. Difficult to notice what the real situation is. Once again thanks for the great documentary. Dylan van Baarle has definitely watched the part with „never give up“ when he got the spare bike. And as we all know Dan, the smallest cog goes the fastest. More of that please.
Kopecky was so strong! Everyone in Belgium knew it was the best chance of a Belgian victory in de Ronde we ever had... It's amazing how she turned all those expectations into a win!
Wondering if Pogacar was flexing a little bit when he blew past all those riders at 55km to go. Maybe burning matches he could have used in the sprint?
Another good review. Talking slowly helps :)) and mvp is an excellent and powerful young rider. I think that teddy lost the race before the others closed on him
Lotte Kopecky won because Annemiek van Vleuten closed the big gap to Chantal van den Broek-Blaak. Lotte didn't take over for a second when Annemiek was closing the gap! Much respect for Annemiek way of riding, always going for it !
The final pace of MVDP was about the same as last year, but the speed when he started his sprint was about 50% less, so he could profit more from his explosivitity. The difference between winning and losing a sprint, so he learned from last year.
Great race. Why did Matteo Trentin go to the front with 78kms still to go? Lots of time to bring back the lead group. Pogacar should have dropped MVDP on the last few hill sections. Pogacar weighs 9kg less than MVDP. No way he wins in a sprint finish. Not exactly his cup of tea. Yet, this is exactly what happened. Fault to UAE - DS and to Pogacar.
Of course it made, the two clips around 6min mark, is van der pol 2 wheel behind kasper, poga in the left, and the next clip is poga with mvdp in his wheel, so the drop chain happens in that time, completely destroyed kasper race, don't need to be a ex pro to see that one. Dylan can go all he wants on mvdp wheel, but we have seen DQS this year for way less than that, if poga would have crash, opinions would be all against him just my opinion tbh
Yes (although he was born in Belgium!) But what Dan was saying is that no Belgian men's winner since Gilbert in 2017 makes it the longest that they have ever gone without winning!
You rode an Orbea bike over vlaams streets? I was questioning whether or not to buy one of their cute racing-bikes, because they hide their ebike-components so smoothly into the frame, that it isn't noticed on first sight, unless you are familiar with them...
I'm a big GCN fan and I'm sure the analysis was amazing, but, please can you avoid putting the winners' names in the title that's seen without selecting the video. I was enjoying the full race on GCN whilst indoor training an hour a night after work, but it's not quite the same when you know the winner from a unwitting glance at UA-cam.🤦♂
Hi Ben, sorry about that - we understand not everyone can watch the race live. But we do think 24 hours after the finish is long enough and certainly know of other channels that wouldn't wait that long!
@@bendriver6268 If that was a questioning statement then Lantern Rouge’s channel has upped the race analysis to such an extent that it seems everyone wants to be in on it.
It seems as though TP's success in classics depends on his ability to effectively distance everyone before the final few kms...when this doesn't happen, his options at the end against more nominally powerful rivals seem limited.
What did you make of the Tour of Flanders? Who were your riders of the day?

Accelerating from a crawling slow speed up to a full sprint certainly seems to fit more into MvdP's wheelhouse
