One of things I love best about the SAJB is that we are afforded the rarest of a musical life’s gifts, watching a child blossom, safely under the loving care of a gentle master into a dedicated messenger, eager to share their gift with an audience. Then, in a blink, they are young adults with budding personal styles and ever increasing vocabularies. Watching them begin to gain the confidence to venture out a bit and still have that rock solid band to fall back on, is, to me one of life’s loveliest miracles. Just think of the first time you saw Alba, Elsa, Magli, Rita and Elia as precocious little ones. Look at them now. It’s the power of music and love.

For some reason watching these fine young musicians cracks me up, the sheer joy of it ? the knowledge that I will never have the ability to share musical talent with others with the vitality of youth, that's the sadness of it? SUPER! The violin is really great, the sound, the precision, the soul in it. And all the others play like if they where Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Big band ... Jazz continues to live thanks to such talented young musicians.
What I love about Elia is a quality that Sinatra had in common with her. She has the ability to take big chances in phrasing making the listener watch breathlessly to see if she’ll make it back home to “1” in time. She always does. That’s a big deal.

I love jazz fiddle and so I love Èlia Bastida who is getting so good that she is approaching genius...and she is so young! OMG! This music is so good, all of it but especially for me this wonderful jazz fiddler. I almost can't find words. It would be better if someone would put up a picture of the goofy, happy look on my face. That would do it! A picture of a deliriously happy 8 decade old man!
