I ordered the belt from LPS on Thursday night and it arrived Monday. I ordered the belt after taking my Z2100 apart. It would have been better to wait because my memory in putting it back together is not as fresh after waiting a a few days for the package to arrive. I used painters tape to tape screws to their locations or parts as I took it off and that helped a lot saving me time during reassembly looking for the correct screw. Also put painters tape over the ink ports to keep them from drying out. After it was back together it printed perfectly the first time. I couldn’t imagine doing this without this video. Thanks!
I would like to thank you, Bob, for this very helpful video. I own an HP Designjet Z2100 photo 24" machine. Following your instructions here, I replaced the carriage belt and did a depth cleaning on my machine with new issues. And I have no screws left over. LOL. I enjoyed your commentary and the way you explained the process. Teaching in a straightforward way without overdueing it by going over and over items already covered. You stop the video and come back when it is completed. Nice. My machine is up and running now with no issues . Thanks again, Bob.
This video did exactly was it was supposed to do: give me the confidence to replace the belt myself, and convinced me to buy the belt from your company. And it won't be my last order with LPS Computer. Many thanks, Bob!
Excellent walk through video. After replacing the belt on our Z2100 I now feel like a legend thanks to this tutorial. Video quality is a bit dodgy, but it's good enough and the steps and descriptions are really easy to follow. Unfortunately I've bought a cheap belt, it was one of those, "ah well, if it's knackered, it's knackered, things", so I just found the cheapest available. But when it does go again I'll know what to do 👍🏻
I think it is remarkable to be able to DIY this level of repair I never would have tried this without your comprehensive information and high quality belt. Your video on replacing the belt is thorough & presents a more logical approach to changing the belt. The HP Service Manual is designed to confuse & possibly intimidate. I did stumble at the point of threading the belt onto the carriage, I couldn’t quite understand where the changes in the belt should hit the slots on the back of the carriage. I ended up looking at the HP service manual and another online video. I didn't get the recipe for the playdo explosives:) which might be handy in resolving some less successful projects.
Thank you for the video and walk though! With just four hours of work and calibration I was able to get my donated HP DesignJet T1120ps plotter back up and running in my classroom. I've never had to repair a plotter before and I definitely prefer having the video compared to the walk though manual that came in the belt kit. Thanks for the help!
Thank you, that made the job a breeze, so much easier than following the HP service manual. Ended up taking me a couple of hours, I was expecting it to be a longer job and was very happy to have no screws left over at the end!
We just used your kit to repair a T1120. It worked great, but we found some differences (that confused us at first) between the T1100 you are repairing in the video and our T1120. On ours, we couldn't find the trailing cable. We finally found it when we removed the ink tubes; the trailing cable is attached to the ink tubes and moves as a unit. The end of the cable is also mounted on a rail in front at the left side. We had to pull the carriage to the service station in order to get to the connections; you can't remove one from the carriage without removing the other. Also, our T1120 has no zero force connectors with retaining clips, and it does take some force to remove and especially to re-connect those cables. We also replaced the x axis encoder strip, just in case, to save having to disassemble this monster again. Other than that, we had more trouble just removing the covers than any of the rest of it, and they were a bear to get back on correctly. But, after a couple of hours we had a working 44" printer again. Thanks for the quality parts and the comprehensive instructions, Bob!
Thank you very much for taking the time to do these video's, just replaced the belt on my t610 and after screwing it all back together the carriage sounded awful but then noticed the rear bushing on the floor, once again one of your video's showed how to easily fix it. Thanks again.
Great video, made me feel very prepared to tackle this project when I walked into the customer's office. Definitely will come back to this channel if I need similar assistance.
Thanks Bob, helped me successfully change the belt on my 44" t610. Only difference to your video was mine had a motor in the way of the capping mechanism key - I had to remove the motor to unlock it.
Very good video. Ordered belt and replaced. Then had the service station error. Removed service station and cleaned excessive ink out of the bottom. Error went away. Then got a print head error. Replaced printhead. Performed the calibration all went good. Printed a few prints. Now the machine hangs up at different times. Could be during print system initialize or during waiting for a print job. Very random. P.S. I purchased the carriage belt kit from LPS Computers.

Thank you very much for the great video Bob. It helped me fit a new belt to my recently purchased Designjet Z3100ps 44 inch plotter. I believe the upper carriage bushing was either already gone or I broke it however since the carriage can bind. I have a new upper bushing coming and I hope it allows this somewhat unknown plotter run for me. Ps thanks for the C4 gift suggestion. I gave it to my GF and it really blew her away!
@@LPSshowsyouhow Yes that high torque wrench is one of the best tools I've ever bought. I haven't found a bolt it can't undo with ease. Although I can snap some bolts off too of not careful. I tend to keep it on setting one most of the time and dial only as required
Hi again Bob - can I ask do you think these plotters should be left in energy save mode with the plug on? In order to prevent ink clotting issues maybe? I have very little plots going to the machines at present. One or two pages per week. I have a T1100 44 and the Z3100PS 44 which is now repaired thanks to this tutorial. (The carriage bushing, cleaning of the encoder and oiling finished the repair)
Ran into an issue on my 44" T1100PS, since it has a rewinder, the motor is in the way of the T10 unlocking hole for the carriage assembly. You will either need a VERY long T10 (probably a 12" or longer bit) or you will need to power on the printer and pull the plug once the carriage unlocks.
I replaced the belt on a 44" Z3100 and when I reassembled the plotter it grabs the cutter and drags the cutter all the way to the service station and the cutter hits the service station and I get the possible paper jam error. How do I fix this? Also one time it didn't grab the cutter, but the service station didn't move all the way out of the way before the carriage tried to move, do I have to calibrate the service station? I did do a complete disassembly and cleaning and reassembly of the service station.
Hi: I have my T610, working perfectly fine with USB, although it has an ethernet port in it, but i am not able to fine it on main pannel screen of printer, can you please help me. Hello Bob Wert, I have the model z3200 and I can't remove the first part. It seems to be different from the one on your printer. Looking underneath, it looks like it's screwed on. Do you have any instructions for opening this part of the z3200? Thank you in advance.
Hello. There is only one type of cover for the Z3200. The screws you see hold the nylon latches in place. They are holding the panel in place. They do not unlatch easily. This is one of the most difficult parts of the repair.

Hello dear my hp t1100 is showing 79:04 error can u tell me this error is for what... the belt pully was broken after I change the belt now I shows this error when I load paper during loading I gives 79:04 error
That's a fantastic video Bob. Thank you very much. The belt on mine has all but disintegrated and I feel quite confident that I can replace it now. I live in the UK - do you have distributers over here?

I don't know of any way to "reset" the date on the print heads. They will work fine even if the plotter says they are expired. The plotter will warn that the print head is out of date and ask if you want you use it anyway. If the PH has clogged nozzles, you can try soaking the bottom portion of the print head in about 1/2" of Windex in a coffee mug over night to soften the dried ink in the nozzles and then let the plotter condition them after reinstallation.
Hello Bob: Please, I have an DJ T610 with "replace defective printhead (Matte black / Yellow)". I purchased 1 year ago one pack of recycled printheads (packed and very good sealed). I put the new recycled printhead, but the error persists. Then I purcheased an new recycled printhead (from Amazon) thinking that the other printhead can be defective..., when I put the new printhead the error persists..., If I put the 3 printheads recycled, the error persists only with B/Y printhead. I think that recycled printheads is not the problem. I have replaced the complete carriage (including the board), belt and ink catridges..., the problem persists. Then I put the latest Firmware (9.0.0.1.1), but problem persists. I can not think of more things, I only can try to put an new and original B/Y printhead. Please Bob, can you think of what it can be the problem? Thanks!!. Jose.
Since you have a combination of refurbished print heads from at least two vendors AND the symptoms have changed, it is probably best to start out with a set of new OEM print heads to eliminate the possibility of problems there. It is possible the trailing cable needs to be replaced because all the signals from the print heads and carriage travel through that cable to the electronics. You might want to double check the trailing cable connection at the carriage since that was recently disconnected.
@@LPSshowsyouhow Thanks Bob. Trailing cable replaced today, but problem with printhead persists. I think that motherboard is faulty. I don't know how I can do without spend more money, because I have spent much money in this problem and I can't anymore. Thanks!!.
Hi Bob, I have to replace a Carriage assembly in a Z3200 printer ,is there an easy way to replace it or do I have to dismal most of the printer to replace?
Hi, hope you are fine. I am using HP Designjet Z5400 from some years. But today it showing a message “08:04 If the problem persists, check for the latest firmware release.” Sometime it runs but after 2 or 3 minutes it shows “Switching power off, please wait.” Then it restarts and show message “08:04 If the problem persists, check for the latest firmware release.” I updated firmware but have same problems. Please tell me the solution.
Thank you for this professional video to change the belt, although it took me several hours , I have changedi t. Now I have an error 86:01. And there is no paper jam at all!!. I notice that the carriage runs perfectly from right to leftwith good sound, but when he returns to the right, hits the service station. I tried to rotate the special cone white plastic pize (at the back of the right side) with the T10 to the right, after many twists see that up a little, I start again the machine and sige the same problem, I have repeated this action several times but still failed 86:01 . I removed the paper cutter and still the same. Anyone can give me any advice, please.
I'm having the same exact problem. T1100ps. Replaced belt no issues, great kit. However can't get to calibration step because everytime I start up it does its normal routine. Carriage goes back and forth, initializes and the get 86:01 "paper jam" Went though all steps here: h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04581797&sp4ts.oid=4214021 but still have same issue. Appreciate any solutions.
In my case, in the end I had to call a technician. When I set up the machine, I had a small, black piece that I thought (because it looks very much like) that it was one of the fasteners of the large flat white cable that moves next to the car. That piece must be very common to be loose when the belt is changed since the one who came already knew the problem and bring a spare part that is not worth more than € 5. Good Luck
Thank you much for your video...I was able to replace the belt but now I get a error code 02.1:10 that I did not have before. What's your experience with this? How can I repair it?
Hi, if you look up the error message you get you will see that it is to do with the PCA (print carriage assembly) but in my experiance it is actually the trailing cable. This is the long cable that fixes into a board on the left, wraps through the black clip inside in the middle of the print area and connects to print carriage. Normally it is just a loose connection so open up the left hand side again and check that the ribbon is fully inserted into the connector and the restraint strip is pushed back down.
Thanks for the reply,,,I remember the ribbon end being somewhat messed up when I put it back into its socket so I think what your telling me may right. I'll work on what you told me,,,thanks again, Steve
Hi Phil, I'm back to working on my printer again. Prior to tearing down the printer my thoughts are to have a new 24" trailing cable ready to install. Do you know know if the z3200 and z3100 cables are the same? For some reason they have different part numbers and cost considerably more for the z3200.
+Steve Ss Sorry Steve, I don't know. I'm using a T1100 44'', so my part numbers are different to yours as well. However I would suggest that you have a quick look around on the web, the cable that I used had a couple of different part numbers and was able to fit a couple different machines.
@@philindeblanc The printmech PCA is where the machine ID lives. So you can't freely swap HDDs between different machines, or printmech PCAs between machines. You can migrate the pair together.
I ordered the replaced the carriage belt from you last week and replaced it today with no problems. When the plotter starts up the carriage goes all the way to the left then back all the way to the right then I get an error message. 86:01 Possible paper jam. Any idea what may be the problem? The plotter is free of any paper and the roll isn't even loaded. I tried loading the paper and same problem. It tells me to lift the window, raise the lever, check printing area then reclose both and restart. I still get the same error message. Please help.
+Alexander Zurhorst Yes, the cutting wheel that follows the carrier wasn't in the exact place it need to be so the carrier wouldn't pick it up. It wasn't properly seated in the rails. I'd also recommend cleaning the ink heads. I didn't and I'm getting occasional spots of ink on the edges of some drawings. Let me know if that fixes it. Good Luck!
what is the meaning of 86.01 error in HP z5400 plotter and In diagnostic menu it shows %1 error. What is this??? And how we can resolve this issue?? Is it carriage assembly error or Motor error or anything else??? It is related with carriage moving but i dont know what is main problem. Machine is in running condition after cleaning the carriage assembly PCB card but problem arising again and again. PLEASE HELP REPLY ASAP
The error 86:01 is a Y-axis error (carriage motion). It is triggered by a spike in the carriage motor current (an increase in carriage motion friction caused by the carriage hitting something or being inhibited by something) or from the encoder sensor on the carriage. The sensor tells the electronics where the carriage is, carriage speed and direction. If the belt is worn or the motor pulley has debris in the teeth it will cause lumpy carriage motion and the electronics will generate the error to prevent poor print quality. The encoder strip itself can be dirty and give false info to the electronics about carriage motion. Start by cleaning the encoder strip with a damp cloth, check the condition of the carriage belt and motor pulley. You can also move the carriage back and forth by hand to feel for variations in resistance. To unlock the carriage, cycle the power and when the carriage moves, pull the power cord out of the back of the plotter.
The clicking sound is probably the power supply crowbar circuit turning the PS off to protect itself. There is likely a pinched wire shorting to the frame. This commonly happens when the left end frame is put back on. Carefully check all the wires in that area and you will find the problem. This generally does not hurt the power supply.
Hi all. I replaced the belt as shown. But there is paper jam error 86:01. What i might do again or reseat? The engine make a little move and thats it (on startup)
My former IT guy installed a new belt and now I get a 86:01 error message (possible paper jam). There is no paper in the machine to generate the paper jam error. Any ideas??
right so the C4 tutorial at the end was great and all, tried to mail it as a gift like you said and the stupid postmaster freaked the hell out. I was going to downvote, but on the plus side this federal prison does have free wifi...
I'm not seeing that part number in the T610 manual. What is the description of the part? The numbers printed on the parts themselves are used by HP for internal purposes, and don't usually match the numbers in the manual.
I appreciated your video on the belt R&R.Is the a video on troubleshooting complete power loss. The LED Display fails to illuminate and no sound is heard when powered on. Please refer me to assistance with my 2009 HP Design jet Z2100 Photo Printer, Product # Q6677C.
Hi. It is not uncommon for the power supply to fail on these plotters. Remove the formatter (board with the ethernet connector) and power the plotter up. Look down through the hole where the formatter lives and see if there is a red LED on at the left rear of the board all the way at the bottom of the Electronics Module. If it is not on, replace the power supply. If it is on replace the main logic board. The parts can be found at: www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-z2100-parts
if you remove the time spent on twisting with a screwdriver and other manual operations from this video, then only 8-10 minutes will remain. and if you spit out potatoes from your mouth, it will be clear even for non-anglophone people.
What's the point of making this information public ?!?!? Trying to send the plotter technicians sell doughnuts ? HP should come after you, this should not be public information... Congrats Bob !!!!!

Hi, I have a 22:10 error checked it in service manual. All it says is to replace the Ink Supply Station. Please help. Thanks!
very good! thank you. assisti seu vídeo e ele me ajudou bastante. obrigado.
Hello and thank you for your video, is there any chance to reset such printheads and reuse again?
I don't know of any way to "reset" the date on the print heads. They will work fine even if the plotter says they are expired. The plotter will warn that the print head is out of date and ask if you want you use it anyway. If the PH has clogged nozzles, you can try soaking the bottom portion of the print head in about 1/2" of Windex in a coffee mug over night to soften the dried ink in the nozzles and then let the plotter condition them after reinstallation.
Thank you again and I am so sorry for the late reply.@@LPSshowsyouhow
Hello Bob:
Please, I have an DJ T610 with "replace defective printhead (Matte black / Yellow)".
Thanks!!.
can you please make a video on how to remove the platen on desingjet z6100 thanks
hello, this process is worth to the error 08:11 - hp T610?
Thanks Bob!
You're welcome, Michael!
Super! Thanks for so an useful Video!
Thank you!
Hi Bob, I have to replace a Carriage assembly in a Z3200 printer ,is there an easy way to replace it or do I have to dismal most of the printer to replace?
You'll have to more or less follow the procedure laid out in this video (but without the mistakes).
It sounds like you have a corrupt hard drive. I recommend replacing the hard drive.
Thanks for your help. I will replace hard rive.
This video saved me thank you
Thank you for this professional video to change the belt, although it took me several hours , I have changedi t.
Carriage goes back and forth, initializes and the get 86:01 "paper jam" Went though all steps here:
h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04581797&sp4ts.oid=4214021
but still have same issue.
Good Luck
Hi there, Any idea about fixing this 86:01 issue? i've changed my belt for my HP designjet Z2100 and now im encountering this error 86:01.. PLS HELP!
There is another video from Bert on this issue. Please check that. It’s to replace carriage bushing.
muchisimas gracias, thank you
You're welcome!
Ok,,Thanks for the advice Phil
What is involved in converting a Z3100 photo series into a postscript version? The paper limiting is a bit annoying and maybe worth doing.
You would need to replace the printmechanism PCA and the HDD.
@@LPSshowsyouhow The print mech board, the HDD, OK, and what is the PCA, and why?
+Ash Man I have the same error. Did you get it to work?
+Alexander Zurhorst Yes, the cutting wheel that follows the carrier wasn't in the exact place it need to be so the carrier wouldn't pick it up. It wasn't properly seated in the rails. I'd also recommend cleaning the ink heads. I didn't and I'm getting occasional spots of ink on the edges of some drawings. Let me know if that fixes it. Good Luck!
+Ash Man Thats it! Thanks!!!
what is the meaning of 86.01 error in HP z5400 plotter and In diagnostic menu it shows %1 error.
I did what you said but when I try starting it up the screen doesn’t turn on and their is a clicking sound. Any solution
Bob Wert thanks mate. Turned it on after the weekend and it worked
Just completed it, but as I restart I get error code 21:13, which I've looked up, and it tells me what it is, but I haven't a clue how to resolve it!
21:13 indicates the machine thinks there is something wrong with the service station. The fix is to replace the service station.
Hi all. I replaced the belt as shown. But there is paper jam error 86:01. What i might do again or reseat? The engine make a little move and thats it (on startup)
Take a look at HP's procedure for diagnosing 86:01 on these printers: support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c04581797
im confusing about the belt tensioner, should i screw it all the way or should i leave a small space?
Counter-clockwise to reduce tension, clockwise to increase tension. Turn it clockwise as far as it will go when you go to tension the belt.
Thank you bob.. :)
My former IT guy installed a new belt and now I get a 86:01 error message (possible paper jam). There is no paper in the machine to generate the paper jam error. Any ideas??

thank so much !
right so the C4 tutorial at the end was great and all, tried to mail it as a gift like you said and the stupid postmaster freaked the hell out. I was going to downvote, but on the plus side this federal prison does have free wifi...
XD
LOVE IT!
Yeah, I know. The Post Office doesn't have a sense of humor. But hey, free wifi, free rent, free food - it could be worse.
Did I miss the part about making the C4? -Achmed
Do you have part Q6683-67006 for T610 ?
I'm not seeing that part number in the T610 manual. What is the description of the part? The numbers printed on the parts themselves are used by HP for internal purposes, and don't usually match the numbers in the manual.
Its call Kit number 2
We don't have that kit in stock. If you can identify the specific components you need, we would be happy to supply them.

I have error 79:04 can you help me
looks like all that needs to be done to replace the belt is taking off the left side,,
Indeed, it is possible. Thanks for the input!
4.45 LOL Bob you joker :P
if you remove the time spent on twisting with a screwdriver and other manual operations from this video, then only 8-10 minutes will remain.
and if you spit out potatoes from your mouth, it will be clear even for non-anglophone people.
Hey, your're welcome. Could you pass the gravy?
bitch, I'm breaking the machine,
What's the point of making this information public ?!?!? Trying to send the plotter technicians sell doughnuts ?
HP should come after you, this should not be public information...
Congrats Bob !!!!!
Personally, I'm happy this video is posted. I can handle $100 kit purchase, not a $500 service call. Thank you SO MUCH bob!
