This is a graduation, per se, which includes a full diploma distribution and everything. Sakura Gakuin is an idol group based on a school theme. The girls go to regular school as well. As such, it implements eveyday school life such as extracurricular activities or "clubs". Most members are usually between the ages of 10-15 or grades 5-9. Once a member reaches 9th grade or middle school, year 3 they leave the group or "graduates" from the group. they hold a series of concerts called "road to graduation" culminating in a final concert that has the ceremony. This is Su's graduation. She is the only senior, but there was a second graduate. Thats Mariri Sugimotopersue(the tall girl with the flappy tie). She decided to pursue her modeling career early so they let her graduate with Su) Moa and Yui graduated two years later.
Yes, this was SU's graduation and the last song she preformed as a member of Sakura Gakuin. Yui and Moa stayed two more years and did both Babymetal shows and Sakura Gakuin activities during that time.
When I first ran into BM I never could have dreamed I could have like their origin group so much as well - I was almost horrified to find what I was listening to...and enjoying :D Sakura Gakuin was just jam packed with amazingly talented girls. It's so wonderfully positive (doesn't feel like the n kpop industry at all to me) - and often the lyrics in their songs are pretty good too. There's plenty more here if you want to dig - and it's all very entertaining - especially the Nendo tests 😂. Oh - the speeches afterward are also wonderful :P More please!

That's at the end of compulsory education in Japan, although most students continue on for at least three more years. The youngest members could be was 10 years old. Members could potentially "transfer-in" at any age from 10 to 15. Each year, the seniors would graduate, and new members would "transfer-in". BTW, this wasn't before BABYMETAL. Su graduated from Sakura Gakuin at the end of March in 2013. BABYMETAL began in 2010 as a Sakura Gakuin sub-unit. BABYMETAL's description was "The Heavy Music Club". There were other sub-units, loosely based on school clubs, such as Mini-Pati (The Cooking Club), Twinklestars (The Baton Club), etc. . Both Yui and Moa were members of Twinklestars, as well as the 2nd generation version of Mini-Pati. They both graduated from Sakura Gakuin in late March of 2015, which allowed them to concentrate on BABYMETAL.

These girls were preparing for their careers in the entertainment industry. They already were professional performers at that point. They are technically rivals in the industry. BUT what you see here are real feelings and that's what makes this performance so special. Of course, Suzuka wasn't a "regular" person. And it's sad, but the fact that the "heavy music club" survived the group where they originated says a lot.
Up until the end, Yui held it together while Moa was a hot mess of tears throughout the show. It was the previous year when Airi and Ayaka graduated that Yui couldn't keep it together.

Nice brutal reaction 😅 I met SG thanks to babymetal and now they are my favorite group, of course it is not a musical style for everyone and even less coming from metal, but thanks to SG I was able to overcome difficult stages in my life :)

The part where one of the girls walks up and tells Su they all love here before hugging her was a complete surprise to Su and was improvised and planned by the other members, hence her slightly confused expression when it happened.
While I am a massive Babymetal fan the early stuff they did before Babymetal as children dosen't really interest me. It can be fun to see where artists came from though .
