What you're going through is 100% normal, but the answer lies with your daughters: are they healthy? Happy? Do THEY feel somehow slighted? I have a 25 year old daughter and we had the same conversations. I’ve told her about my experiences and the reason why I shared was to tell her that I was her 26 years ago. The difference was I was married and had 2 kids by 26 and I don’t have any regrets. I told her in your 20’s is the time to figure out what it is you want but also live your best life and to learn from my mistakes. In my 20’s I didn’t know who I was because I was being a wife and mother. I didn’t realize who I was until I was in my early 30’s. You always want better for your kids PERIODT!!! I'm 22 and I'm just like your daughters. I made a conscious effort to live a disciplined life since childhood, my mom used to talk to me about how she lived and wouldn't want me to go through. There're times that I feel like I missed out on life or maybe I'm being too hard on myself but it's still not late, I can still get myself out there. Now I know I have a balance, I'm out there but I'm disciplined and set boundaries.

I absolutely love your thoughts on this.....you addressed both sides of the choices they’ll be faced with versus what many of us had to learn by experimentation and no guidance.....and although some us survived and went on to heal and receive greater gifts and enriching experiences, not everybody does or may still be struggling internally in their life. There is a whole other spiritual aspect we don’t address, due to lack of awareness of the negative magnetic pull of energies women take in during sex and how that impacts our emotional and mental space. Everybody is here to learn whatever lessons are meant for their life path....you can still have knowledge of all things and still make choices that can hinder or setback your progress in life. I admire your honesty and from seeing how you were real with your girls, I was that way, with my sons I raised them, but told myself that just because I knew I couldn't teach them how to be men, I could instill in them a sense of being a decent human being that has an education, morals, respect for me, their elders and spirituality. To not become statictics. I talked to them about sex and gave them condoms thru their teen yrs because I worked for the health department and told them don't become a teen father. I really enjoyed this video and the thought process from a parental perspective especially as someone who grew up and is still growing in a similar age bracket to your daughters and who had a church environment and family upbringing with similar views. I'd love to see a follow up, maybe with them if they are comfortable, with further reflections on this discussion. But as for my actual two cents, I don't think being selective and being sexual are mutually exclusive, but finding the balance is the hardest & most pressurized part. It took me a long time and plenty of space from who I thought I had to be to enjoy being both selective and adventurous in dating with that mindset so ingrained. There is a lot of fear, guilt, shame, accountability, and "everybody's counting on you not to screw up," to get over and I'm still not completely over it. It's a process for sure.

Somewhere along the way we convinced ourselves that "living life" is about doing regrettable things. You know, that whole YOLO movement, but I think that YOLO is all the more reason to be intentional and careful. I am all ears to hear the experiences of my parents and aunts and uncles and whoever came before me because their experiences are like checkpoints. You know when you're playing a game and you reach a checkpoint you don't have to start from the beginning when you fall. Why would I want to go back and have the same poor experiences my parents had when I could stand on their shoulders, learn from them, and get ahead? Yes, they may have turned out fine by God's grace, but I could turn out even better by His wisdom. Never feel bad about wanting better for your children. You made your decision based on your personal experiences and are only second-guessing yourself because you see the lives of others. Doing what everyone else is doing when you WANT to do it is one thing, but doing it solely because everyone else is even when you know it ain't what you want for you is never a good idea in my opinion.

Hey Tami... as a young woman of 30 pregnant with my first child I can say my parents didn’t do everything you did to teach your daughters and try to keep them on the straight and narrow but I turned out fine. The conversations about “waiting” or “don’t mess your life up” came after my older sister got pregnant at 20! As a result of that and seeing her struggles up close (and her ignorance)I waited, kept a good head on my shoulders and still had fun and lived my life. I had my slip ups and careless moments like any young woman but They were few and far between. I went to college, moved out of my hometown and took a journey of exploration in myself and across the country before I landed in California. Now in love with a smart and caring black man (praise!) and starting our own family in our own home I can say thankfully I was never put in a bad situation and never compromised myself or my dreams. I say all that to say, I think there really is no way to know how your child will receive your teachings and earnest attempts to help them avoid mistakes. Much less the accidental lessons they learn from family and peers. The visuals to accompany those talks may have hit your daughter deeper or differently than even your other daughter. Each child/individual is different and at least she chose a righteous path and not a ratchet one. 😉 It May be a bit more difficult for her to “find the one” but saves her time and trouble in the long run. Nothing wrong with healthy standards for how you want to be loved and treated much less what you are willing to accept in a man. You did right by her. God will do the rest. I did/do the same with my two boys and my oldest is 18. I feel what you did was right and how you spoke with them and talked to them about your past was also a good idea. Again I did the same, the mom did not talk to me about any of this and I figured if we don’t someone else will. These females are after my son, and he is flattered they have sent him pics and everything, I talk to him until I am blue in the face; he is about to go to college and I won’t be there. He knows what’s right and wrong. I told him about marriage and waiting; but I have to put it in the Lord hands. I told him about STD’s showed him pics of the different stages, talked to him about odors and the smell test. Told him not to use anyone else’s protection but his own if he does decide to do anything, because I will not always be there. Tammy you are one of a kind and very unique. The difference was I was married and had 2 kids by 26 and I don’t have any regrets. I told her in your 20’s is the time to figure out what it is you want but also live your best life and to learn from my mistakes. In my 20’s I didn’t know who I was because I was being a wife and mother. I didn’t realize who I was until I was in my early 30’s. You always want better for your kids PERIODT!!! So I cherish that my daughter comes to me with the BS from guys that think he had game! But because of my teachings and her own experiences, I know she is listening and doing the damn thang and I’m so proud!!!’

I'm 22 and I'm just like your daughters. I made a conscious effort to live a disciplined life since childhood, my mom used to talk to me about how she lived and wouldn't want me to go through. There're times that I feel like I missed out on life or maybe I'm being too hard on myself but it's still not late, I can still get myself out there. Now I know I have a balance, I'm out there but I'm disciplined and set boundaries.

It's a complicated topic. I want all women to have agency of their bodies, yet the wisdom to use their personal power responsibly. We are still in a transitional time before coming into a balance with that as a collective.

I absolutely love your thoughts on this.....you addressed both sides of the choices they’ll be faced with versus what many of us had to learn by experimentation and no guidance.....and although some us survived and went on to heal and receive greater gifts and enriching experiences, not everybody does or may still be struggling internally in their life. There is a whole other spiritual aspect we don’t address, due to lack of awareness of the negative magnetic pull of energies women take in during sex and how that impacts our emotional and mental space. Everybody is here to learn whatever lessons are meant for their life path....you can still have knowledge of all things and still make choices that can hinder or setback your progress in life. The point is to share what you know to add to the arsenal of knowledge these young ladies will have to pull from when they are faced with making choices. Lack of knowledge can produce a lack in confidence to make a choice that is beneficial for the upward progress in ones life and the easier it will be to succumb to the wishes and desires of others who may not be looking out for ones best interest. I admire your honesty and from seeing how you were real with your girls, I was that way, with my sons I raised them, but told myself that just because I knew I couldn't teach them how to be men, I could instill in them a sense of being a decent human being that has an education, morals, respect for me, their elders and spirituality. To not become statictics. I talked to them about sex and gave them condoms thru their teen yrs because I worked for the health department and told them don't become a teen father. I'm 55 waiting for grandchild from them oneday. I felt thru the yrs as you have about the way I came at them about growing up and navigating thru the things that were waiting for them in the world. I really enjoyed this video and the thought process from a parental perspective especially as someone who grew up and is still growing in a similar age bracket to your daughters and who had a church environment and family upbringing with similar views. I'd love to see a follow up, maybe with them if they are comfortable, with further reflections on this discussion. But as for my actual two cents, I don't think being selective and being sexual are mutually exclusive, but finding the balance is the hardest & most pressurized part. It took me a long time and plenty of space from who I thought I had to be to enjoy being both selective and adventurous in dating with that mindset so ingrained. There is a lot of fear, guilt, shame, accountability, and "everybody's counting on you not to screw up," to get over and I'm still not completely over it. It's a process for sure.

I feel you taught your girls well. Men will sleep with a woman and walk away, then the woman ends up feeling bad because she shared her body with someone who is a user. It’s good to have high standards and I believe God will reward them with a good deserving partner when they’re ready.
Why do women look at it that way tho? Are you not also using that man for a good time? Be a hunter and you can't be hunted. I think it's important to be careful, but I also think it is important to experience and explore sexuality. How else will you grow to have a healthy open sex life with your forever partner? Somewhere along the way we convinced ourselves that "living life" is about doing regrettable things. You know, that whole YOLO movement, but I think that YOLO is all the more reason to be intentional and careful. I am all ears to hear the experiences of my parents and aunts and uncles and whoever came before me because their experiences are like checkpoints. You know when you're playing a game and you reach a checkpoint you don't have to start from the beginning when you fall. Why would I want to go back and have the same poor experiences my parents had when I could stand on their shoulders, learn from them, and get ahead? Yes, they may have turned out fine by God's grace, but I could turn out even better by His wisdom. Never feel bad about wanting better for your children. You made your decision based on your personal experiences and are only second-guessing yourself because you see the lives of others. Doing what everyone else is doing when you WANT to do it is one thing, but doing it solely because everyone else is even when you know it ain't what you want for you is never a good idea in my opinion.

Hey Tami... as a young woman of 30 pregnant with my first child I can say my parents didn’t do everything you did to teach your daughters and try to keep them on the straight and narrow but I turned out fine. The conversations about “waiting” or “don’t mess your life up” came after my older sister got pregnant at 20! As a result of that and seeing her struggles up close (and her ignorance)I waited, kept a good head on my shoulders and still had fun and lived my life. I had my slip ups and careless moments like any young woman but They were few and far between. I went to college, moved out of my hometown and took a journey of exploration in myself and across the country before I landed in California. Now in love with a smart and caring black man (praise!) and starting our own family in our own home I can say thankfully I was never put in a bad situation and never compromised myself or my dreams. I say all that to say, I think there really is no way to know how your child will receive your teachings and earnest attempts to help them avoid mistakes. Much less the accidental lessons they learn from family and peers. The visuals to accompany those talks may have hit your daughter deeper or differently than even your other daughter. Each child/individual is different and at least she chose a righteous path and not a ratchet one. 😉 It May be a bit more difficult for her to “find the one” but saves her time and trouble in the long run. Nothing wrong with healthy standards for how you want to be loved and treated much less what you are willing to accept in a man. You did right by her. God will do the rest. I did/do the same with my two boys and my oldest is 18. I feel what you did was right and how you spoke with them and talked to them about your past was also a good idea. Again I did the same, the mom did not talk to me about any of this and I figured if we don’t someone else will. These females are after my son, and he is flattered they have sent him pics and everything, I talk to him until I am blue in the face; he is about to go to college and I won’t be there. He knows what’s right and wrong. I told him about marriage and waiting; but I have to put it in the Lord hands. I told him about STD’s showed him pics of the different stages, talked to him about odors and the smell test. Told him not to use anyone else’s protection but his own if he does decide to do anything, because I will not always be there. Tammy you are one of a kind and very unique. You are one of the most honest individuals I have come across especially coming from a reality show. #respect
