Funny you mentioned those marks on the trash can, I was eyeballing them in the original photos as a benchmark haha. Great video, thanks. I messed around with older software years ago...this is nicer. Amazing really...
I also tried an old photogrammetry software years ago made by some coder in Japan. It kinda worked, but it crashed all the time. I can't remember the the name of it. Meshroom has come a long way and it has become much more stable.
@@BlenderRookie bruh I tried this shit on two items, a hat and a smaller figurine. I took 66 (random amount stopped when i was dizzy) pics all around the figurine and it was mind blowing the detail it captured! Gonna try 200 to 400 next time to see the difference. I kind of wanted to see the other end of scale to see how it would work out. The surface was like a little bit bumpy, I assume that would go away with more shots. I want to scan my FPV controller front plastic half. Think it would work out? like, just the shell, hang from fishing line and take a few hundred pics, then scale it in tinkercad or something, customize it, then resin print it. I need to learn to clean up models...
@@andrew-729 The only issues I have run into is if the object being photographed has reflective surfaces. Otherwise it seems to work. However, don't forget that the more images you use, the more system memory it will require. In my case my DSLR takes 20 megapixel images and 100 images generally take 30ish GB of system memory.
Do you know if it is possible to use Mushroom on a bunch of digital pictures... pictures without shadows or backgrounds? I have 60 images of a 3d rendering from every angle and I would like to convert it back into a 3d rendering. Thanks
If you have pictures of pretty much any object from many angles and there's enough features that can be used to calculate camera movement, then yeah. But if the object is featureless or smooth and all the same color, it likely will not work. If it has an empty background, the chances of it working also goes down.
@@ColeBesner I misunderstood the other guy's question. This video will show you how to turn a bunch of images into a video. ua-cam.com/video/Bgab9VC_laQ/v-deo.html

I have a 3080 that does ok in meshroom, but i have a 1080ti that doesnt..seems to crash at the depth map..must be the cuda cores. Does the extra 3060 help speed up the whole process? I just loaded around 2000 pics taken from 2 phone videos using a media player to cut into pics. Those high res cameras do look nice and must make a huge difference in overall quality and ram usage..lol.
As far as I can tell, it made little difference for me regardless of which GPU I had assuming whatever it was using the GPU for, had enough vram. For example, a 1060 worked fine but it ran out of vram. In your case I assume you have the 10GB 3080 and the 1080ti has 11GB. So am I assuming the reason the 3080 is crashing is because the amount of vram you need is between 10GB and 11GB. Meaning the 1080ti has enough but not the 3080. As far as multiple GPUs being used in Meshroom. I don't remember if it used more than one but my gut is telling me that it uses only one, the same one driving the display.
@@BlenderRookie my 3080 10GB does fine in meshroom. I would like it to be a little faster of course, but it has never crashed. My 1080ti has only worked once maybe twice on small scenes. Always at the depthmap which requires cuda. I'm new to this so trying to understand why my 1080ti doesn't work..maybe I'll update drivers and try again. Thanks for the reply. Just found a new passion for meshroom and blender and trying to learn as much as possible while I can.
@@BlenderRookie yeah, i love my 3080, i used to love my 1080ti untlil now, this is the first issue ive had with it. lol. jk, i still love it. it may be the 9600k...not much for a work cpu. 12700k with my 3080 hasnt had any problems with meshroom. just takes about 8 hours with over 2000 stills from video. still experimenting. ive only started utilizing this software along with blender for close to a week now and im loving it. so much to learn.
@@hzwinipI've got a GTX 1080 and an i7 3770k and I've had zero issues. Largest scan I've done was about 1600 images which took pretty well all day to process.
Yes. I used it for a few years with a ryzen 5 1600X and I just tried it on another PC with a ryzen 5 3600. But the machine I run it on generally has a ryzen 9 3900X. It runs fine on older CPUs, just slower. The 1600x takes about 3 times longer and the 3600x takes about 50% longer. The biggest thing you will need is system memory and vram. Because part of the meshroom process uses the GPU. I'd say you need 16GB of system memory to be able to use it. But preferable 32GB or more.
Most photoscans need some work. Try doing some retopology, and your back steps could become an asset for an animation!
