한국도 물가가 엄청 많이 오르고 가스료도 배이상 올랐어요 전기료 교통비 외식비도 많이 올랐답니다
전세 사기 사건도 갑자기 많아지고 앞으로 주 노동 시간도 늘어날거고 시급은 많이 오르지 않을거라 예상하고 있어요 다시 오더라도 그런 점들을 감안하셔야 합니다
주변에 5년만 해외로 나가고 싶어하는 사람들이 많아졌어요

As a Brit living in Korea, I agree with everything you both said. I felt like Hattie was saying everything I have thought in the past. I love England, but somtimes I feel like things haven't evolved enough, if that makes sense? Maybe it's because I compare the state of things in England to the rapid growth of Korea. I just expect a certain standard of living. I come from a suburban area in the south of England so the way of life and cultural difference when I visit home feels huge. My husband and I would probably move back in the future though, but not now atleast haha
I visited Korea for a month in April 2022, I’m going back again next week for just over 2 weeks. When I came back to the UK after my first visit, I had such a reverse culture to a few things, it was eye opening for me. The main 1 for me was the cost of eating out, in Korea as you will know, you can get a big bowl of hand cut fresh noodles with side dishes for less than £5, to get anything close to that price in the UK, you can pretty much guarantee it will be a microwave meal in a venue like Wetherspoon’s.
The other 1 was the cost of trains, getting the KTX from Seoul to Busan was around £75 for me, and for the UK in some cases, you’re looking at close to a £100 if not more for a return journey, depending on where your traveling to. Recently I went to Birmingham from my city of Sheffield, the cost of a return journey was close to £40-£50 for a 1 and a half hour train ride. I ended up getting the National Express coach in the end which was vastly cheaper but took longer.
@James88 I understand how you felt. The first time I returned to England for a visit, it had been a year and a half and the differences were startling. Just usual things in the UK like the corner shop closing at 6pm felt so odd and some shops being closed on Sunday. Bus stops which were basically lamp posts with a sign on it, the lack of street lights in my area, the price of food and limitation on take out places. But I do appreciate there are things in England that Korea doesn't have like consistently clean air, cheaper meat, fruit, and cheese haha
I've been in Korea for 9 years now and there are a lot of things I appreciate in this country but I also acknowledge I'm financially stable and live close enough to Seoul that I get the benefit of great public transport and other conveniences of Korea. It must be different living in the countryside.

인구대비 CCTV설치 비율입니다 단순히 CCTV설치 갯수가 아니고....최상위 대도시는 대부분 중국이고 런던이 5위입니다 한국은 43위로 알고 있습니다...결론은 런던은 CCTV가 있어도 그걸 알아도 물건을 훔쳐가는거죠
중국이나 유럽 남미 미국 등등등 cctv 있어도 그냥 훔쳐가요 강도짓 하던가 한국은 쪽팔려서 안하는게 있죠 사회적으로 그런거 주변에서 알면 사람취급 안하거든요

@@user-ok4il6yh7l 당연히 공공기관 카메라 기준이지. 미국은 상시녹화 가능한 링도어벨 카메라 주택마다 사방에 깔려있어도 수치에 포함 안되고 블박은 한국만 많이 쓰는게 아님.
확실히 해외여행해도 어느순간 한국이 그리워지는 이유를 생각해보면 가장큰 이유가 외출했을때 더많은것을 신경써야하다보니 피로도가 높은것 같아요

해외 나갔다가 서울 들어오면서 한강이 보이면 왜그리 자랑스러운지 가끔 가슴이 벅차 오르면서 눈물이 찔끔 날 때도 있음 ㅋㅋㅋ
진짜ㅠ 돈만 있으면 제일 살기좋은 나라가 한국임...옛날에 영어배우러 필리핀에 한달동안 어학연수 다녀왔었는데 진짜 겁나 고생했었음 밤에는 치안땜에 나가지도 못하고 완전히 열대야날씨땜에 살 다 타고 음식 입에 안맞아서 응급실까지 가고ㅠㅠ 근데 응급실 가도 환자 제대로 보지도않더라 그냥 약 하나 달랑 주고 끝...외국 병원까지 가보니까 알겠더라고요 내가 한국에서 엄청 복에 겨운 인생 살았구나...평소에 진짜 눈물없는데 눈물 뚝뚝 흘려가면서 귀국했음. 비행기타고 한국땅 보이자마자 감격의 눈물이 줄줄 흐르더라ㅠㅠ

아무리 박정희식 급격한 경제성장이 한국사회에 많은 부작용을 가져왔다고 해도, 그때의 선점효과가 없었으면 지금의 대한민국도 없지.
필리핀 출장만 갔다와도 필리핀 사람들이 우리보다 게으르거나 교육수준이 딸린다는 생각은 안듦. 다만, 그 사람들은 외국 회사를 위해서 일하고 한국 사람들은 한국회사를 위해 일한다는 게 차이임.
그 편리함은 값싼노동력들로 희생된 결과들이죠..
As a South African that loved in London I agree with everything except one point - I have never felt more safe being able to walk around at night with my phone out and headphones on in London (but that's because I'm from SA😂) but I was definitely scared of the teenagers in London
My boyfriend and I were basically talking about these things today. I’m in the USA and he is in Seoul. Honestly the benefits of Korea outweigh anything we can think of by living in the USA together. For his job especially too. I don’t feel safe being alone as a female here, and I really don’t want to raise children here either. I’d much rather raise them there and have their schooling be fantastic too. I could probably have better medical help there than i have for my medical issues in the USA. It’s just downright unaffordable to have medical issues here. Basically if we continue like you guys, Seoul will be our home. I will miss my family like crazy and I don’t know how you handle it Hattie, but know I look up to you as someone in an international relationship as well

I’m too originally from the uk but we moved to Ireland ( west) 23 years ok my hubby is British also. My family is irish. It’s the best thing we ever did, we aren’t materialistic, we don’t shop constantly ( we can’t because there aren’t the shops where we live), we can’t get takeouts easily, but we are so happy. We have a beautiful home, a beautiful family and a peaceful life, fortunately we also have pretty good jobs very close to where we live. There are trade offs we aren’t near a big city, we don’t have great public transportation etc but on balance I would never go back to the uk. We visit but I’m always glad to get home. Our daughter recently returned from a year working as a teacher in Seoul and we fortunately visited her there for 3 weeks and we could not get over how cheap things were like public transport, taxis, meals out , hotels the list goes on. Parts of Ireland are expensive like Dublin and the cost of living in Ireland like many countries has skyrocketed. But uk prices seem crazy dear.

Everything is so expensive here with gas, electricity, water, food, public transportation prices going up and then there is crime left and right. It gives me anxiety. I’m from the USA and when I stayed in Korea for 3 months I was shocked by the affordability of food, transportation, and living costs. Not to mention how much safer I felt walking around as a female. My friend teaches in Seoul and she doesn’t/can’t come back to America because of the cost of living.

The perspective is so interesting to see and I wish you could give more context to your style of living especially in Korea. I live in Seoul myself and am fortunate enough to study at a university without having to pay tuition. But when I talk to my Korean friends they are painting a very different picture: the rent in Seoul for people with average paying jobs is barely affordable. The working hours are insane, the pay is ridiculous. The beauty standards and social pressure are pushing many young people in severe depression but Koreas awareness and care for mental health problems is almost non existent. I have never lived in London so I can’t speak on the comparison. But I feel like this only touches on the positive aspects of living in Korea when the negative sides are invisible. Same with the wedding comparison: koreas weddings are cheap because there is no reception, it’s a in-and-out situation of 20-30 minutes in the venue. People give money but it puts a lot of social pressure on people because if you can’t give much people will frown upon you.
Im not saying Korea is bad - I choose to live here so how bad can it be - but Korea is only a comfortable place when you have a very good paying job that allows you to work a reasonable amount of hours a week. And that is a huge privilege. I don’t know how much you make as influencers but I’m assuming you are earning over average and I feel like that is context that should be provided when talking about convenience of living in Korea. ❤

Feel this! There's a whole other side argument about the social isolation, cultural insularity, racism, lack of work-life balance inherent to Korea. A lot of international commenters on Reddit talking about their experiences living and teaching in Korea suggest a common theme that it is an amazing place to visit but not necessarily to live long term/permanently due to the aforementioned issues.
If you make good money without having to work to the bone, can deal with the potential that as a foreigner you may experience a certain difficulty to make truly authentic connections with native Koreans, then the experience is likely going to be as positive as your outlook. However, without a support network of other students/travelers/work crew/family/a significant other, it can be a relatively tough, lonely, and disenchanting place.

유럽국가들과 브렉시트 전에는 무관세로 왔던 것들이 관세가 붙으면서 가격이 상승하게 된것도 이유인듯

I felt everything that was said in this video. I've lived in Sk for 1 year and absolutely loved it. I now live in Uk (Midlands) and I complain about the exact same things. Only positive things I'd say is air quality in Uk is incomparable with SK as it's always clear, we have more holidays which we can take whenever, office shorter hours and there's no culture of drinking out.

I have rarely gone home (UK) because of everything you say. My fascination with SK began last April and you two have fueled it. I am planning an East Asia trip in spring, when I will experience your take on SK. Curious about your thoughts now on raising kids in the UK v's ROK. How do you feel about your (future) son's Military Service Hattie?, I have a US son (14) here they are not forced into the military, but at 18 they have to register! My daughter is 22, I got her out of the UK at aged 6, she's international now (British/American Actress) and so prefers the US, Colorado specifically. Also, have you noticed your Brit friends resistance to giving up a package holiday to visit you for a cultural sensory experience. I live in a truly amazing place, but no one ever visits. When I was in London (twice) I didn't find it expensive ahah but because I live in Switzerland and what they're saying it's actually more expensive here ahah. But here it's quite safe luckily. But yeah! I Loved London and people in London, they're so nice and spontaneous

I think you'd have to work a 9-5 job to fully compare. I worked in Seoul and London, although Seoul is cheaper, more convenient but the working hours really leveled its out for me. Like I would finish at 5 in London and leave to a good social life. In Seoul I was easily working 100 hours a week. It makes you so miserable. That really makes a difference to the standards of living. The fact Korea has one of the highest suicides rates in the world and lowest birth rates would back that up. Both Cities had pros/cons tbh as a city I prefered Seoul when I stopped the 9-5 I gotta say.

I can relate being a Canadian who lived in the US for ten years. When I moved back home was like omg how did I ever afford anything here. Canada closes most places early while most places in the US are 24 hr or super late. I married an American and for our wedding shower we had things like 50/50 draws , games, penny sale, stuff like that to raise some money on top of gifts plus the games and food we provide make it fun since we don't do bachlorette in my family because they are more conservative. We also at our wedding paid for every table at our wedding to have one free bottle of wine for the toast but had a bar service where we could make some money back and a tip jar, yet another 50/50 draw. So we raised money for nice little nest egg to start up on. (my only problem is I got deported for like ayear and ended up using it for lawyer fees but that's a different story and it all got sorted out and worked out eventually ;P )
서울에 cctv가 생각보다 많지 않아요. cctv가 많은도시 1~20위 사이 대부분 도시가 중국이고 런던은 3위에요. 반면 서울은 53위에요 생각보다 많지 않아요.. 런던이 훨씬 많아요 cctv는 범죄 예방에 그렇게 크게 도움을 주지는 않을거에요. 어차피 범죄를 저지르는 사람들은 그런거 신경안쓰니..
공감. 그리고 한국 CCTV 있어도 특정인 잡는 거 쉽지 않음. 완전 변장하면 알기도 힘들 뿐더러 추적도 어렵죠. 강력 범죄자들은 경찰들이 영혼 갈며 일일이 주변 CCTV 밤샘해가며 확인해 잡는데 경범죄자들은 그만한 인력 투입하기 쉽지도 않죠.

개인적으로 한국이 살기 좋은 곳은 아니라도 살기 편한 곳은 맞는듯..
각자 개인의 희생으로 더 많은 서비스 혜택을 누리니까요.유럽이나 캐나다처럼 본인도 편함을 원하면 다른 사람들이 편해야하기 때문에 늦게 문을 여는 가게가 없거나 무슨 문제가 생겼을때 발생하는 비싼 인건비는 감수해야겠죠.

5:46 yep that happened to me. I was in a Nero cafe in central London and I had my phone on the table. Some woman who didn't speak English came to our table and was showing us some paper with whatever (can't remember what, some gibberish or another language), then after she left I realised that she stole my phone. I called the police and I told them that the cafe was willing to show them the CCTV, but the police still refused to help and said it's a lost cause.
That's so horrible~ the police even refused to help....

헬조선이라고 하지만 해외 나가보면 한국만큼 살기 좋은 나라가 잘 없긴 함
요즘 유툽을 보면 한국 거주 외국인 그리고 외국 거주 외국인들 사이에서 한국 거주 장점이 너무 많아 다들 한국으로 오고 있고 앞으로도 계속 올 것 같은데,,,, 우리가 지금까지 생각하지 못 했던 여러 일들이 생길 듯 해서 좀 걱정도 됩니다. 특히 중국 관광객들이 관광지나 각종 거리 더럽히는 거랑 각종 소매치기 절도 등이 늘어나는 것 등등. 물론 어떤 경우에나 장단점은 있겠지만요.
한국이 늦게까지 일 하기는 하지만 shift가 있으니 하루 종일 일 하는건 아니예요. 저녁 shift는 금액이 다르기도 하구요. 한국 노동법도 요즘 아주 스트릭 하죠.^^

@@bukhansan9483 유럽 여행 갔을때 고작 하루밖에 안지났을때 한국에서 먹었던 얼큰한 국물 먹고싶어 미치는줄 알았습니다….. 유럽 사람들한테는 주식이라 상관 없겠지만 주식이 밥이다 보니까 음식이 다 느끼해서ㅜ 역시 한국인은 밥심.
진짜 하루 이틀은 신기하고 첨 이라 먹는데 그 뒤로는 속 니글 거려서...
난 그래서 우리나라 사람들이 더 많이 해외에 나가보길 바라요. 단지 간단한 여행말고 경험이라 말 할수 있는 정도로. 그러면 아직까진 진짜 한국이 살기 좋은 곳이란걸 느끼게 됩니다. 하지만 교육 시스템과 직장과 정부 정책등은 진짜 문제가 많아서 개혁이 필요하지만. 예를 들면 수능도 일년에 2-3번 정도 치른다던가.인구수는 줄어 드는데 구지나 단 하루 정해서 시험보고 결과가 안좋으면 루저 만들고 시간낭비하게 만드는 시스템부터 고쳐야 할듯.

오스트랄리아에서 밤에 동네 길을 걸어서 교회를 가는데, 길에서 흑인1명, 백인1명이 같이 이쪽으로 마주 걸어오다가, 날 보고는 화들짝 놀라더니 차도를 횡단해서 반대쪽 보도로 걸어감.

한달 월세 이백만원 별로 비싼거 아닙니다. 한국만 유독 전세제도 때문에 월세가 싼거지 여기도 엘에이 근교인데 보통 가족들이 사는곳 (좀 살만한) 월세 삼천불입니다. 실제로 제 친척이 엘에이근교 플러튼이란곳에 거주하는데 삼천불 넘게 냅니다. 4인가족 기준이요. 한화로 따지면 390만원정도 되겠네요. 물론 엘에이 중심은 훨~ 씬 더 비싸구요

@@kimdaniel8682 네 나도 미국 산지 18년 되었는데 처음에 아파트 살때 적응하기 힘들었습니다. 월세가 너무 비싸서 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 말씀하셨드시 보유세가 많으니 전세라는건 존재할수가 없는것이죠. 부동산 투기때문에 만들어진 전세라는 제도지만 수십년간 집살돈 없는 한국인들에겐 좋은 제도죠 ㅋㅋㅋ 그래서 한국사람들에게 월세 몇백만원씩 낸다고하면 정서적으로 받아들이기 힘들죠 ㅋㅋㅋ
캐나다는 200이면 싼건데 ㅠㅠ
근데 그만큼 영국은 급여가 좋지 않음? 보통 소득이 높아서 뮨가도 비싸던데 그거 감안해도 영국 물가가 많이 오른건가
밀라노에서 6년정도 지내면서 느낀건데 유럽인들은 불안한걸 못견뎌서 우리나라처럼 전자식 도어를 못쓰고 우리나라 사람은 불편한걸 못견뎌서 서비스부분이 발달되잇다고 느꼇네요 불안한걸 못참는 외국인과 불편한걸 못참는 한국인....뭐가 정답인지는 아직도 모르겟네요

I’m planning to study in Korea or japan depending on what one I visit this year and when I’m there I will try and figure out a way how to stay there permanently because I also want to leave England even though I was born and raised there I don’t fell save at all so once I’ve moved to Korea or japan to study I tend to stay there

그러게요. 지금은 중국 도시들이 cctv 많은 상위권을 다 장악했지만 그 전까지는 옛날(한 20년전)부터 쭉 런던이 전세계에서 cctv가 가장 많기로 유명한 도시였는데

여성은 특히 한국이 살기 안전하고 편안하고 좋지....벨기에 브리쉘에서 차량 주차하고 식사하고 왔는데...유리깨고 가방 노트북등 전부 도난당했고...CCTV가 거의 없는데 차량 바로 앞 마트에 있어서...신고했음...범죄자들 얼굴 다 나옴...경찰서에가서 조사 다 받고 마지막에 진지하게 물어봄...정말 잡을수 있을까요? 대답은...거의 잡을 확율은 없다고...근데 이정도 범죄로 수사안한다는 느낌이였음..ㅎㅎ
서울이 CCTV가 더 많다고 생각하지만, 런던이 훨씬 더 많습니다. 제가 본 통계에서 런던이 세계 3위 한국이 15위인가 그랬어요. 안전은 CCTV탓이 아닌거죠.

Next time i would stay in essex country side or town to make things a bit cheaper. I live in essex and its manageable. But london is just a treat because its so expensive. Drive close to london and park you car at station and get train closer to london you save money. But yeah… i only go to london once a year due to cost and fact its sooo expensive.
But she's from London. So I believe she was just saying that she now feels London is so expensive compared to what she is used to in Seoul. She may have not realised how expensive basic things were in London until she came back and felt the difference. I felt the same way and I don't even come from a major city so it must be huge price difference for her.

I experienced myself. It got so big I couldn’t breath or eat. So they did an ultrasound, biopsy, & emergency surgery. Luckily it was benign. 한국은 단일 민족국가이고 다민족 국가에서는 상상 할 수 없는정도로 사회적 시스템이 서로의 신뢰를 바탕으로 둔 시스템이 많아요. 한국 역사를 공부해보면 왜 이런게 가능한건지 알 수있어요. 누가 좋고 나쁘다 라는게 아니라 이런 오래된 환경적인 요소때문에 집단적인 차이가 나타난다는거에요
It is very expensive to live in London and crime is bad there too… the further outside London the better. I live in Shropshire and it is so much nicer and safer here. You can’t classify just London as the whole of England… London is a metropolis!!! The crimes like bag, mobile phone and the motorbike bags are very much a London thing. I am not saying crime doesn’t happen in the rest of England but it definitely isn’t as common as you make out…

@@Mayevur Bristol is really nice and Bath is 15-20 minutes away on the train which is lovely, London is nice in central you just have to be careful make sure you have your stuff safe and you’ll be fine, Hattie is listing the worst things that could happen but they most likely won’t happen
But to be fair to Hattie, she is comparing 2 capital cities. Both of which she has lived in for a significant amount of time so I find her comparison valid.
But Seoul is a megamegapolis which 10million people live in. But nobody has stolen..maybe England have so many immigrants.

Hattie needs to get out of London which is obviously ridiculously expensive, it’s not as bad elsewhere. Oh and she seems to be suffering a serious case of reverse culture shock 😂 Tbf though, I am a Brit and prefer living in Korea too :)
