When it happened Ireland shut all schools & many businesses for 3 days to show respect, solidarity & mourning for America. They held vigils, church & prayer services & put American flags everywhere, on their homes, cars, stores, streets. We will never forget that day. Seems like it was yesterday. The horror & shock the whole world felt watching it unfold. The world stood still that day. Ireland stands with America. Never Forger. God Bless USA
Wow. That is surprising. Where do you live in Ireland? I never heard that. I have family in the North and in Dublin area. “Oym a part of Dooblin in the rare oul toyms”!!!
Did you write this comment on every 9/11 story? Get over yourself Ireland. The whole world empathized with us when it happened. Ireland wasn’t some super country that stood above the others by showing the most support. Ireland prolly just has more relatives in the NYPD then others. Lotta north east coast cops are Irish for some reason.
@@barbiecrocker7420 I have watched a bunch of these videos and this person has commented multiple times this same claim about how much Ireland did to honor 9/11. Once or twice, ok. But several times just comes off as a bit braggy and self indulgent. Thats all.
I personally know Billy Martin as I work with him 2 to 3 times per month. Never knew that he served in such great capacity. Most men with high egos would have continually talked about their heroism. But not one word from Billy. So thankful that I was Blessed to hear his story today. I saw God's hand on him and others as Billy shared his story . And now God is using Billy to encourage others to surrender their lives to Christ. What the devil meant for harm God made it for good. I salute you Billy and commend you for your bravery! Shout out to all who assisted with the tragedy on 9/11; Thank You! May God continue to give you all peace and comfort as we reflect on 9/11.
His last statement was one of the most poignant things he said… ‘I’m here so everyone doesn’t forget, because I think we have’… I’ve talked to many of my nieces and nephews about 9/11 and recently I’ve stressed more about the aftermath and the feeling of unity in our country. We’ve sadly lost that
God bless your dear heart, son. Please know, us older folks cried like babies many a day with you from afar, and will never, ever forget. 9/11 will always be a sacred day of mourning in my heart, from NC. My sister, brother and his wife and I drove up to NYC some years back to pay our respects at the memorial fountain. It was just before the museum was ready to open so we missed out on that, but Lord willing, we will go once more to visit there one day. My prayers are ever with you all, as a retired nurse, I know the health issues are a plague on survivors of the clean up crews.
Mr Martin we will never forget 911! But now we know a little bit more about the tragedy, and what all the brave first responders faced. So, please keep telling your story. We are listening.
I admit that I am one of the ones who “forgot”….. years can go by without me thinking of 9/11. The day comes or it passes and I am briefly reminded and I take it for granted. I was in 11th grade when it happened. I was disturbed and traumatized by the events then, but as the years went by, I distanced myself from it. The last few days, something compelled me to start searching up the story of survivors and here I am listening to this story. I am sorry to have been one of the ones who forgot, but I am thankful that many have not stopped telling their stories. Their experiences are valuable and need to be preserved so that we never take for granted what we have. So that we never forget the beauty of the human spirit. So that we never forget the pain and suffering of innocent lives and the void left in their families and friends. I will remember. And I will share my memory, their memories, and the memory of that horrific day on 9/11/2001.
Billy, people didn’t forget. I don’t have any NY connections, but I’m here to listen to as many 9/11 stories as I can. I assure you people living on the other side of the country are thinking of you. Those who remember are from all walks of life. I watched the terror attacks unfold on TV. I am horrified and saddened by the loss of life. I will never forget! Bless you, and thank you for your sacrifices!
I’ve seen so much 9/11 footage of after the towers fell and I had no idea that those alarm were alarms attached to firefighters. Thats just awful. First responders are heroes❤️🩹
A spiritual warrior. His account is riveting with all the nuances, details. Excellent articulate storyteller. I can follow in my mind, as if watching Spielberg direct a Grisham novel. May Life always be kind to you and your loved ones, Billy Martin.
Most of us do not appreciate enough of what these Firefighters do for us...They were walking TOWARD the obliterated Buildings and going into them and UP many floors into the Smoke and Fire to Rescue people...We all know how BAD this situation was and going IN those burning buildings was a DEATH TRAP...Yet they all went IN anyway...Courage

I can't tell you how many stories I've heard like that. I high school friend that I've known Even longer than that worked in the world trade center. On September 11 he started heading into work and literally stopped and said, "I'm going to go to the registry today.". He haven't thought about it or planned it. It just struck him And off he went. So the 1 on the earlier flight convinced the 1 on the later flight to move up and fly with him. If only it had been vice versa 😭😭
I agree. You have to be really careful and think about what you are saying. That is so upsetting to me when people talk like that. It's literally all just Chance. Everyone is going to be somewhere at any given time. We all make decisions. Somehow, with time, one forgets 9/11. This series has impacted me more than during previous years. Maybe it's because I have so much time to mull over this, me being permanently at home now, with time on my hands. My heart goes out to this precious man, and all the other survivors. Thank you for sharing your story. You’re a hero like so many others. The last part of the story you told really hurt. I can’t imagine what you went through and saw that day. God bless you and we will never forget!!!
God bless you Mr. Martin and all of the first responders who sacrificed so much on that day. I suspect I speak for many when I say your story and your heroism still, 20 years later, mean so much to all of us who watched the rigs go south that morning as we walked north. And congrats on your sobriety. There is the hand of something bigger than all of us at play when I hear some of the stories and after-effects that came out of that day, life and hope affirming cases like yours that sprang from the most unimaginable tragedy any of us have, God willing, ever experienced. Thank you for sharing. I never forget. I was in Indiana in high school, watching it all happen on the TV. When the towers fell, it broke my heart. It still does. It is just hard to wrap my brain around the fact that the world watched as thousands of people were murdered. I felt helpless because there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. It was awful. The entire interview was very measured and pointed. Then came the end... WOW...pure raw emotion, that you'd have to be non human to not shed a tear for and with this man. The sacrifices and heroism of all who worked tirelessly to try to save people, under the most hopeless of circumstances, is truly remarkable. Thank you for your courage and for sharing Bill, God Bless! I will certainly "never forget." 🌹9/11/01🌹

I'm struggling to find the words to express my gratitude for you sharing your experiences and for the station documenting it for the future - we must never forget. With not forgetting, we can join Billy in accepting our own survival that has brought us to the present, to the intersection of here & nor, and ask our higher power: God, what now, next would you have me do now, today? Billy's story reminds me that my # 1 job in this life is to love another human being. To connect with human beings & ask - how can i help you today? I'm here, 2 years post this recording, reminded of the extreme tragedies of 9/11, the evil of hatred and the unfathomable actions murderers did and can still take. What Billy shows us is how much more powerful and impactful is the actions of good. Thank you for inspiring me to direct my thinking and actions towards helping others today. It is so great that you are giving these hero’s the platform to tell their story! The perspective of each individual person is nothing short of amazing! God bless!
A slightly if anything absurd fact that could come out of 911 is that disobedient actually benefitted someone in the workplace, albeit he wasnt compensated for leaving the office while others stayed... It shows that its not wise to trust those in charge when a crisis is in occurance especially if those in charge own the building that is threatening to collapse on itself.
Not only that, the lazy also there were so many people especially Men that were late for appointments, interviews and seminars and even one guy that forgot his I.D. survived and saved someone else that came down from his office to vouch for him. It's almost like the losers survived that day, the ones that didn't care or worried if they were late or haphazard. Guess, that men don't care if they piss off their boss when they're late. Or they don't care about being perfect and getting there on time. The ones that were perfect and did everything right got screwed.
I Will never forget. Those that gave their lives for others and the scale of the disaster... RIP 💜💜 and thanks from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifice. You're all heroes alive or dead. 💜💜
Thank you for sharing. It's awful how the government and healthcare has given many of the people who has gotten sick such a hard time with insurance. Hopefully they aren't going through all that B.S .still. All that helped should not have to go through hell with insurance when the insurance companies know what is going on. My condolences to all that lost loved ones .
God you were young going through all that, what a rude awakening to true adulthood and personal mortality at such an age. You look so young now too. Thank you for telling your personal story. You are a true hero even to this day 9/2023. God bless you, your famiy,, and brothers/sisters for your heroic deeds. God holds tight those you knew and didn't for their heroic duty to help those in need. I truly wish you all the best. I will never forget, and you telling your story will make sure others don't as well. I wish you health and happiness.
I appreciate the interviewer letting this man speak, but she needs to realize, some humans -- especially firemen -- do not experience "fear" like most other humans... When if comes to fight or flight, there are a number of people whose only instinct is FIGHT. Or die trying. Pyrrhic victory.
The misread ticket and then changing course was no accident. Everything happens for a reason...I still want to know why the eff so many innocent people had to meet their maker that day.
You were SO YOUNG !! Thank God you survived it as you know so many of your brothers went home that day . They are your guardian angels now protecting you through out your lifes journey. Keep sharing your experience with the young ones who weren't there . This is the first time in our nations history that we have live testimony to a historical event. You are doing a VERY important work-especially today because kids born today don't have a CLUE about what really happened! WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR SERVICE!!!
Somehow, with time, one forgets 9/11. This series has impacted me more than during previous years. Maybe it's because I have so much time to mull over this, me being permanently at home now, with time on my hands. My heart goes out to this precious man, and all the other survivors. May they all find comfort somehow.
I don’t know anyone who is forgetting 9/11. Perhaps those w/ dementia?
Oh shutup and stop being rude , I agree with the comment . Why you in this comments being nasty with everyone
Thank you William for sharing your story. I promise you, I will Never Forget…ever! God bless you 🇺🇸🎈🎗
Billy, I want to tell you thank you for your service. I feel strongly that God spared you that horrible day so you can tell your story and I believe sharing will help others. There is a reason for everything in life and we need to accept Gods will. Please continue being a great husband and father and know you are in my prayers. I will never forget all of the people who passed and for the ones who helped in any way that they could. God bless you always and forever✝️❤️
Thankyou for your service, your story, your courage, your humility, and your self deprecating attitude. I apologize for the hideously negative and abhorrently ignorant comments. Blessings.
I can't fathom what You and so many others endured that day. God Bless All The Brave Firemen that were lost that day. Also thoughts and prayers with everyone suffering illness to this day. God Bless You.❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️
Huge respect and admiration to you sir, Mr. Martin. Huge respect and admiration to all of you firefighters and first responders, but especially the firefighters. What you all did was beyond comprehension - and not just on that day, but the following weeks, months and years. *Salutes
Thank you for sharing your story. You’re a hero like so many others. The last part of the story you told really hurt. I can’t imagine what you went through and saw that day. God bless you and we will never forget!!!
Wow! I’ve never heard about the people who were trapped alive in the elevator, calling dispatch and then dying before they were found :(
My mother jumped to her death from the 96th floor

God bless you Mr. Martin and all of the first responders who sacrificed so much on that day. I suspect I speak for many when I say your story and your heroism still, 20 years later, mean so much to all of us who watched the rigs go south that morning as we walked north. And congrats on your sobriety. There is the hand of something bigger than all of us at play when I hear some of the stories and after-effects that came out of that day, life and hope affirming cases like yours that sprang from the most unimaginable tragedy any of us have, God willing, ever experienced. Bless you and thank you.

@BillyMartin Renewing my vow to NEVER forget. I would be ashamed to tell my story of the pain it caused me next to yours, as the comparison is the ant to the molehill. I'm so sorry for your pain and so proud of your bravery for humanity for all of us. Thank you so much for sharing and what you continue to do. Your a very special person.
Billy, thank you for sharing your story with us. You embody the selfless good will and big hearted desire to leave a positive footprint. Your story has a huge ripple effect on all of us. Aaww what a beautiful man, thank you for sharing you’re story….sending much love to you and all the magnificent colleagues♥️🇦🇺
I tell my kids about it. I hope they can help make the world a better place to live.
I was working @ a southern IN dental office & my twin sis called me & said 'turn on the tv'....I will never forget!
Thanks for sharing shipmate.

Precious and excruciating. I for one will never forget; I have the images of those jumpers burnished in my mind.

These stories are so important thank you for sharing it's heartbreaking that people made it out and end up sick. everyone that day are hero's god bless you all and ones that didn't make it I will never forget that day ever ❤️🌹
Thank you for your courage and for sharing Bill,
God Bless!
I will certainly "never forget." 🌹9/11/01🌹

Thank you William for sharing your story love to you and your family ..thank you for all you do then and every day ❤️🙏
I'm struggling to find the words to express my gratitude for you sharing your experiences and for the station documenting it for the future - we must never forget. You are a hero AND a living warrior angel in our TODAY. God bless you
Thank you for your story & your service! I'm glad that you survived & that you're still healthy! #NeverFoget!

So many tears. So many empty arms.
Thank-you William Martin. It is beyond moving, to listen to you. I am grateful to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Whose picture is displayed in your home (behind your right shoulder), as you speak- giving Him all the credit- for you being spared, as it is.
I've always asked the same questions about the governor on a fire truck. I had a captain tell me once, " Well.....because of firefighters"
that i believe....we are our own worst enemy!!!!
Everyone should see this ❤
So tragic. Ty for ur service and sacrifices. God bless u for eternity.

The end really hit me hard. 😢😢
Thank you!👏👏👏👏🙏
Thank you!! I’m a second generation Irish girl 😊
We haven't forgotten
I noticed he said at the beginning something about “Carolina blue skies” I’m in NC! I wonder if he lives in NC or SC now?
He definitely has a NY accent. He probably vacationed there or he may have family there.
He lives in SC now. He is my sister’s neighbor. Lovely family.

I’m 21, not from America with any American connections and I wasn’t even born when the this happened. We won’t forget ❤
💓 💓💓 No words -- so I'll just use hearts. 💓💓💓
I appreciate the interviewer letting this man speak, but she needs to realize, some humans -- especially firemen -- do not experience "fear" like most other humans... When if comes to fight or flight, there are a number of people whose only instinct is FIGHT. Or die trying. Pyrrhic victory.
Very touching so sorry but do you still visit the firehouses?
The misread ticket and then changing course was no accident. Everything happens for a reason...I still want to know why the eff so many innocent people had to meet their maker that day.
You were SO YOUNG !! Thank God you survived it as you know so many of your brothers went home that day . They are your guardian angels now protecting you through out your lifes journey. Keep sharing your experience with the young ones who weren't there . This is the first time in our nations history that we have live testimony to a historical event. Thankyou BILLY for not only your service. But for your reflection on something so personal. Yes a public tragedy that belings to AMERICA. This is your personal memories and thoughts and feelings your experience. FOREVER A HERO devine intervention God says you still have work to do on earth. Part of that is keeping the story going . God bless you always Billy. You are so strong and to see you break down at the end there retelling that part of it ...the young widows i cried right along with you . Im in recovery 18 yrs of recovery from heroin. Enjoy each day of recovery its precious
Sweet man.
