All American Prophet-Book of Mormon

- I would like to just take this space here to say that I do not want this video to be viewed as intentionally offensive. I know that there are people, particularly Mormons, who will be offended by this, but in all honestly, there are other movies songs and books that make just as much fun of other religions. If it offends you, I am deeply and sincerely sorry. I did this for a project at school demsontrating the religions in America, and this was a way to loosen up the lesson. There were other videos I used for other religions and I do not discriminate against Mormons at all. Thank you all for watching!
Update since this still gets lots of comments: it’s not just about what does and doesn’t have value- since I’m assuming most of you have been to a high school, you would also know that high schoolers, and high school boys in particular, are not always the most mature of any humans yet at that age. While the steak knives line doesn’t have any presentational or informational value, it also doesn’t make a classroom erupt in laughter like hearing the word “scrotum” would. In terms of trying to run an effective presentation, all other important and valuable points probably would have been forgotten the moment that line came on. If this had been for a college class, there wouldn’t have been as much need to “censor” it. In addition, the teacher wasn’t someone who would have cared, they just agreed that for the purposes of the lesson (which was an AP US History presentation on the Mormon religion) that this line wasn’t serving the same purpose as it would have in the theatrical production. This project was not made in order to comment on theater, on comedy, or on satire. It was made with the honest interest of making a class project a little more entertaining for myself and my classmates. And for those of you who have sat through class presentations, you can probably relate :)
You did a great job with this.
If there are still people bugging you about this in the comments, just pin this comment of yours up, so they can see it first thing 😊
@@schattentaenzerin thank you for being so nice and letting me know! I’ll do that now :)

"Hello, would you like to hear about the Mormon faith?"
"I don't know. Can you explain it in an upbeat, catchy, six minute song and dance?"
"..."
And then twist all the words and totally teacher it wrong. Here comes the Book of Mormon, the musical
My response to Mormon's coming to my door now:
"I'll listen if you first sing All American Prophet from Book of Mormon."
Yeah ummmmm what song 🤦🏻♀️
I would get baptized that day if missionaries showed up at my house and did it!
Exactly...
Getting ready to excitedly sing that "I've got maggots in my scrotum" and not having the line there is absolutely heartbreaking.
IKR!!
@Justin Y. I see you everywhere.
"Ok"
That jokes seems kinda tacked on
I wish I could like this twice.
I love how Mormon churches explain this in an hour, when they should have started singing All American Prophet. It’s better than sitting in one spot for an hour.
"Even if people ask you to show the plates to them - DON'T."
Preceding this video for me was a 2.5 minute ad for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

This song is scarily accurate.
And somehow far less ridiculing of Mormon history than it could have done.
I’ve been listening to this with Bluetooth headphones while people around are using Bluetooth devices and I’m terrified that everyone in my class will hear this.
Why would you be afraid to let them hear the good word? 😜

They would sue.
Fernando Prado Chavez I get what you're saying but it wouldn't be as fun or original since this already exists. Plus, I think in general, most people view Mormons as a bit of a harmless group.
Besides, Trey Parker and Matt Stone already made Team America World Police which includes a lot of humor about Islam. Spoiler alert, they weren't blown up for it.

There is nothing educational about having maggots in one's dick unless you're like a med student but I doubt this video has anything to do with medical stuff
@@raspberrycrowns9494 LOL! I was joking, however since we are on the subject, there is an interesting legitimate medical procedure using maggots called, Maggot Debridement Therapy (MDT) where maggots are used to heal wounds that would otherwise would not heal. So if there is an unfortunate individual who has a wound on their scrodem that will not heal, maggots might do the trick. That being said, I agree with you and if someone were to suggest that treatment to me, I would say the same thing you began your reply with..."wtf, no!!!"🤡

They made big Mormon families, generation to generation, until finally, they made me. Hi, I’m Kevin, and my life is kinda crazy
I love the effort you put to this video, hasa diga ebowaii 10 years!!!!!
I grew up in Utah but I was not a Mormon, and shockingly everything about Mormons and Utah is actually kinda true. Try being a non Mormon when the whole state is... let just say... well it's a bit awkward when you're the only one playing outside on a sunday...
I know exactly how you felt
I mean I wouldn't trade it for the world it was a wonderful experience
molly gerlach My teenagers hate it here in Utah. We are in the same boat. Its hard during the dating years when no one can date you because you have no plans to go on a mission, or you have BAD habits....like drinking coffee. ?? My kids are good kids....yet they are treated like scum here because we don't go to church. We cant afford to move, but I'm sure my kids wont hang out here when they leave the nest. ;) " Love one another.....unless." lol. I cant wait to see this musical in Broadway though. I'm sure I will be able to relate as I used to belong to this church. So please, no Mormons posting how I must not understand the church. I fully understand.
Kris Moore, I totally get where the kids are coming from I am so ready to see this show my friend saw it whose parents are mormons and she said they loved it and were laughing harder than she was. I would love to go back to Utah and just visit.
+molly gerlach I love your comment. I travel from Vegas to St. George to visit friends of my family at least 6 times a year. I used to think that Vegas was a freaky place to live but every time I drive through the Virgin River Gorge and cross into AZ and out of the Port of Entry, I am happy to head back to my city of "Sin".
an American man named Joe living in the holy Land, Rochester, New York!
Mormon Missionaries out to save the world at age eighteen? The pressures that those kids have to go through are enormous. In Utah, I did for several months a job in a cubicle with one of the local companies. A young man introduced himself in the average "love shower" style of the Mormons. He wanted me to cook something Peruvian for him to enjoy 'again' his once discovered delight for the Peruvian food during his recent mission. As I brought him the dish on a subsequent encounter, he appeared very grateful and vowing that form of "love shower" friendship that singularizes Mormon culture. After we spoke of many things during his enjoyment of my culinary gift, he frankly admitted that he did not belief in any part of the Mormon script. He told me in clear English language, that he went to the mission only to apease his relatives, mainly his parents, who wanted him to become "temple-worthy". He would leave that culture, if he didn't love his family that much, he said. After that conversation, I never saw him again. Shortly thereafter, I was fired from the job.
+Amravín de Schur Yeah, that is not uncommon. People are getting wiser and not believing as much, but they want to stay in the culture and family.
THE CUTTING OUT OF 'I HAVE MAGGOTS IN MY SCROTUM" KILLED ME
I have to say that I'm a Mormon and I find this song and musical hysterical. This song may be poking fun at Joseph Smith but it does have a lot of truth to it. =)
Kimberly Davis still Mormon?
The creators (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) grew up around Mormons in Colorado, so their attitudes towards them are more... nuanced... than stereotypical atheists (e.g., "Hue hue, religion sucks, God isn't real, you're a moron if you believe in this crap").
Mormons can't be shaken.
Arthur Jackson Haha you could say the same thing about atheists :)
@@unorthodoxromance254 only Matt's an Atheist. Trey is more along the lines of Deism.
Most Mormon's who watch this play will claim that it is "hilarious." You can't phase a Mormon. They are very sure of their beliefs. lol
i mean, it is a satirical musical. its supposed to be "hilarious". Nothing about this musical is supposed to sway what people believe in.
Because a Mormon just believes
I got to go see this a year ago. 10/10 in my top 5 favorite musicals
It's intentions aren't malicious, it's a satirical musical.

This song is such a bop sometimes I forget it's about how the Mormon religion was founded
If the Book of Morman is Return of the Jedi, that would make the New Testament the equivalent of The Empire Strikes Back. Which would make it the best.
I'm at the kirtland temple near Cleveland ohio blasting this, about to go on a tour tomorrow and can't wait
every single time i hear this song the all about mormon episode of sp when it "bum bum bum bum buuuuummmm"'s just blast in my head
This was for a school project and I didn't feel that it was classroom appropriate so I cut it out of the song.

In biblical times... 1823!
I am mormon and I'm not offended. I don't get why you'd be offended either. Don't hate appreciate!
Well your better than the guy who played Chef in the first couple seasons of South Park. They made fun of every religion and the first time they made fun of Islam he left
darkJman77 It was Scientology, not Islam. That is why the actor left.
Religious people don't often understand the parody on their own religion because they can't see their religion from the outside perspective and understand how comical their religion is
I can see why some Mormons would be offended because on the surface Matt and Trey are pointing out how ridiculous religious beliefs are and using Mormon beliefs as the example. I can see why that would hurt if you really believed in those things. I can also see why some Mormons would not be so offended because if you scratch the surface then you see the show is also about the good intentions and big hearts that can lead people to believe these things. Matt and Trey have said themselves that they grew up with Mormons and they like Mormons and BOM is not meant to be a scathing attack on Mormons and I think that comes across in the loving way they portray the characters. For me the show does a brilliant job of pointing out the parts of human nature that lead to religious beliefs and some of the good and bad consequences of that. It does this while being hilarious and having great music, even better!
Bro, I'm mormon and I find this musical hilarious.
"They'll have to believe it just... 'cause... OHH! I guess that's kinda what you were going for"
Never fails to crack me up. He sounds so genuinely enlightened 🤣
P.S. I found this play to be HILLARIOUS ,from start to finish,I grew up as a morman and changed to baptist later in life, I still like talking to the missionary's from time to time about our theological diffrerts.
So you went from one cult to a other cult . Ask your self do you know jesus christ and be honest he said in matthew not everyone who says lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven and on that day he will say depart from me you workers of lawlesess

All of my knowledge of Mormons comes from this and South Park.
I find it funny because I already knew about the religion (I'm from Utah). Almost everything in the show is accurate it is funny that they were able to put the Mormon religion into an upbeat musical though. It makes it sound funnier.

I am not Mormon. I will not share my religious affiliation on here with everyone, but I respect all religions, and actually am well versed in many of the more common ones. I think its important to be open to all peoples beliefs and opinions.
Even though the line has been cut here, I still, still, still have maggots in my scroooootuuuuuuuum.
Only in America can you sing about America like this!
"Joeseph never showed em..."
"I HAVE MAGGOTS IN MY SCROTUM

"Oh shi- Dave we went too far"
Makes more sense for the Americans to have their own prophet and religion than adopt somebody elses.
That Smith guy had some good humour naming the angel Moron-i of all things :D
Listening to this (I'm Mormon), I feel offended but at the same time I'm dying of laughter cause this is freaking hilarious.
how accurate is it?
I'm Mormon too and samee.
Also apple pie, it's relatively accurate but there are some things like (in this song specifically) that Joseph Smith actually was allowed to show others the gold plates. There are written testimonies from the witnesses at the beginning of the book. Also, a section of the plates that was translated was lost because Joseph gave his only translation of that part to a friend that asked him for it (to show others) and never got it back. For the most part though, he didn't show many people and often hid them because many people came after them and him with bad intentions.
Nah Bro not incredibly by any means.
t a n a p e r d u e hahaha yeah.
Saaaame they go some things wrong (like there were other witnesses to the plates besides Joseph) but this is actually pretty accurate
You're welcome! Glad you could use it!
I saw this last weekend and The whole time I was singing dum dum dum dum dum
being a huge fan of joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat, this song is one of my faves in the musical.
It's funny someone could make such an elaborate lie and teach it and stick to it knowing it's a lie.
Nice work montage-ing this song. If you look at the musical as a whole, it's not only ripping on Mormonism, but aspects of Old & New Testament Christianity & Judaism, and in a broad sense, all religions. (Yes, female circumcision, disease & warlords are a problem in modern Africa, but 5,000 years ago in the Middle East, similar problems led to the eventual Old Testament as a kind of early moral code. The musical parallels this idea brilliantly, as well as Price & Cunningham becoming their own modern version of Joseph Smith & Brigham Young.) The more I listen to this show, the more I appreciate its cleverness.
P.S. But you cut the funniest line... (yes, it's a nonsequitur, but hilarious!)
If all you took from the book of mormon was that it was "ripping on" religion, I feel sorry for ya my guy.
